So G5 is over... Now what?
By: Maguma
So, it appears G5 of My Little Pony has reached the end of the line. So many weeks and months of speculation have come to a head. So of course, the question on everyone's mind is... Now what?
Well, obviously, we wonder what the future holds, and what form it takes! The My Little Pony franchise as a whole isn't going anywhere, that's for sure. It's been around since the eighties and Hasbro certainly isn't giving up a certified money maker over one failed generation. In fact, we may have already seen one snippet of what G6 COULD look like. Leaks have shown a few animations featuring a blend of both G4 and G5 ponies hanging out at summer camp... although, there's a few rumors going around that it might already be cancelled; and that combined with how G5 hasn't been the splash Hasbro wanted, tells me I don't think we'll be seeing that particular cast anytime soon. Bit more on this later though....
I believe Generation 6 will be one of three things. 1.) An entirely new take on My Little Pony, which is most preferable in my opinion. 2.) A reboot of Generations 1-3, with Hasbro's "retro pony" initiative coming next year actually testing the waters for how that would do (and maybe even the return of Megan?) or 3.) A reboot of Friendship is Magic. While I would be a tad apprehensive of a G4 reboot, I don't think it's out of the question. Hasbro KNOWS how well G4 sells, and a reboot of FIM was already an idea floating around for G5, so there's nothing saying they couldn't dust off that concept and bring it to life.
But, this raises another question, and one I haven't seen a lot of people bring up so far... Whatever is going to happen to the cast A New Generation set up?
Once Tell Your Tale reaches the finish line, it'll leave a lot of questions unresolved. Whatever happened to the Alicorns in Skyros? Where is Sunny's mother, and is she still alive? What about Aurora and her wish to reunite with her brother? That's at least three big mysteries that may never be answered, on top of whatever else might have been teased. G5 fans who were patiently waiting for them to resolve have been left in the dark, and that's incredibly sad. G5 may have not been my thing for sure, there's no denying it had its fans, and I'm sure anyone would be upset if a show they loved got prematurely put on the chopping block.
Still, with how many cameos G1 ponies got in FIM, who's to say we couldn't get cameos of Sunny, Izzy, Zipp or Pipp? The story may not continue, and I think G6 should start fresh as it can be, but I don't think it's wrong to hope G5 cast isn't forgotten, one way or another.
How Opaline Should Really be Depicted
By: Double C
Opaline was the main villain of Make Your Mark and Tell Your Tales with both a series and goofy personalities. But both shows have their owned art style and storytelling that have little to no connections with each other. The comics of IDW also didn’t help either since they never being cannon with the show of both Gen 4 and Gen 5. In my opinion, Hasbro should create a Friendship is Magic Opaline that would be different and with no connection to A New Generation Opaline that we know.
One thing that should be change is her being imprison instead of being banished. If you all think of it, her beliefs would have made her too dangerous to be let loose. So it gives the vague question of why did the alicorns of Skyros banished her instead of imprisoning her. This would have showed that they would rather have her be someone else’s problem instead. If imprison, she would be placed in a special prison where they could keep an eye on her so she doesn’t escape but did.
A second thing to change is her motives of controlling the sun instead of stealing dragon fire. She always brags of being a fire alicorn when she obtains all of the dragon’s fire magic which she did. But why steal dragon fire when she could take control of the sun since it is simply a giant fire ball that would have given her more power. This would be a better reason she hated Celestia because she wanted to be the princess of the sun.
A third thing to change is her being a fanatic leader of a renegade group of alicorns. As stated, she believed alicorns are superior not only to the other pony tribes but also to non-ponies and should take all their magic. With all the abilities alicorns have, she should not have been the only one with this belief. This would have enabled her to escape from prison and wage conflict with Skyros, Equestria, and other lands.
So in all, a Friendship is Magic Opaline would be both more intimidating and more sense than her A New Generation counterpart. This would also alter and make both Gen 4 and Gen 5 have no conncetion.
Why MLP Comics Are Good
By: Crystal Cat Art
My soapbox is that the MLP Comics are great! Lots of people don't bother reading the Comics, and I understand why. There are a lot of comics and people may not consider them canon to the mlp universe, but I disagree!
I think that the Comics have a lot to offer, and are often as good as the show! I have a large collection of them and I really think they deserve more love and appreciation! The art is beautiful (my faves being Amy Mebbersons take on Gen 5 and Agnes Garbowsca's Chibi ponies!
They have very interesting stories that I have cannoned in my head, such as dragons in fillydelphia and I LOVE the discord Gen 5 arc so much.
The discord arc is the first arc of the Gen 5 Comics where the mane 5 meet discord. We get more lore with how equestria divided, and how discord is doing in the present day.
Lots of people complain about the Gen 5 content, but personally I really like MYM and TYT but I absolutely Love the Comics and movie! The Gen 5 Comics do a really good job keeping the characters just the way they and their personalities are in the movie, one of the things criticised about Gen 5 is the characters aren't like they were in the movie, and the comic versions of the characters are like their movie selves.
Every month new Comics are realised and even if Friendship is magic is over (RIP you really were magical )
They are still realising Gen 4 content in the Comics, such as Little fillies (an equestria version of little women) and the Rise of Cadence comic coming out next year, so FIM fans can get their fill of great Comics too!
In summary, that is my option of why people should read the MLP Comics, and I hope I have convinced some of you to read them too! Thanks for reading my soapbox.
