The IDW artist Natalie Haines has responded to speculation that IDW will "slow down" its My Little Pony comics. According to her, IDW still has multiple G4 and G5 comics in the works. They will likely be released in the coming year, so the G5 comics may continue after My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale ends.
Recently, the website Bleeding Cool posted speculative articles that discussed MLP comics. The first article claimed that IDW might have lost its license to make MLP comics, and the second further asserted that IDW's MLP comics would be slowed down due to G5's poor audience reception. Bleeding Cool is notable because it currently gets to exclusively publish IDW's solicitations (lists of upcoming comics) one day early, on Thursday instead of Friday.
Haines's response was posted as a comment on an Instagram post by Generation 5 MLP News.
In addition to confirming that she is currently still working on upcoming MLP comic projects, Haines also states that she has been promised more work to come after those projects, and points out a clear factual error in the Bleeding Cool article: it refers to Riley Farmer as the editor of the MLP comics, but she previously announced in July that she was no longer working on them. The claim that IDW lost the license seems to be a nothing-burger too.
Hi I work on IDW MLP and I can say that I have not heard this directly at all and still currently have work for both G4 and G5. Riley Farmer is not the current editor of MLP either, so this article feels a little eh trust-wise. Sounds like speculation to me. Obviously I don't know the interworking and that could very much be the plan into the new year, but I have not heard about any of this and am still receiving work with promises of other projects down the pipeline
The only artists credited for The Storm of Zephyr Heights are Andy Price and Kate Sherron, and no other new comics have been confirmed yet; anything that Natalie Haines is working on would be released in December 2024 or later. We may find out what those projects are quite soon. IDW's December and January solicits will probably be released around September 19 and October 17 respectively.
