How would you describe the fandom to someone who didn't know anything about it? It's maybe not such an easy task, but sometimes you need to do it :P
To me it's about the community. It's a lot of like minded individuals who all come together and sometimes talk about this thing we all love. It's not always about pony, but the one thing we all have in common in a mutual appriciation for the content. We all get along in some way, and we all make and appreciate ponies and pony content. It's tough to adequately describe how our circles work to the outside beyond that to me. There is a lot more love and tolerance in our spaces than in the real world perhaps. It's especially strange to have to describe conventions (I've had to do it to my family before lol). Conventions are like a break from reality. It's a completely curated space of only like minded people and it's easier to connect with others in them.
