• New York Comic Con Coverage -- Day 2: Shopping on the Artist Alley

So... surprise announcement of Dragon Ball Daima, the new anime series in the Dragon Ball franchise dropped yesterday at NYCC.

I was kind of wondering why Goku was trending yesterday on Twitter.

In any event, today is day 2 of NYCC, so that means it's time for the annual visit to Artist Alley!

    ...

You know, when I'm not shopping for overpriced convention exclusives from IDW Publishing. Yes I am still bitter about that. But to if you want to see how the stable of IDW Comic Artists have been doing since last year, you can see for yourself after the break!

    This banner never gets old.

Seriously, I think Reed Pop has used the same banner for nearly a decade now.

Eh. If it ain't broke, don't it. And this is a classic of the mainstay of the con now.

Speaking of NYCC Mainstays, Andy Price once again made an appearance at NYCC.

And as a surprise to me, he was showing off the new "Unofficial Horror Movie Coloring Book" he illustrated for Simon & Schuster.

The book features the moments that happened in-between scenes of famous horror films like Halloween (appropriate given which month we are in), Scream, The Ring, and others, which the reader can color to their hearts content.

Aside from that, Andy has been pretty busy working in the final frontier. IDW announced at their Star Trek Panel today that he's been illustrating variant covers for an upcoming mini-series. Sons of Star Trek. Andy has created some very amusing variant covers featuring the fathers of Trek interacting with their sons...

The cover IDW was showing off featured Worf and Alexander. Spoiler Alert, Worf is the farthest thing from a father and every trekkie knows this. Andy's cover reflects this and it is delightful.

Thom recently returned from his appearance at Galacon, where he had a grand old time!

He also made sure to visit some of the sites while he was in Europe. Like Neuschwanstein Castle, which is the castle that has inspired a very large number of iconic scenes in the fairy tale movies.

He's currently trying to decide what he's going to do after he finishes formatting Cuipid's Arrow Volume 2, which has been keeping him pretty busy.
Sara Richard had a new book comic out from Simon & Schuster.

For some reason that name is cropping up a lot lately with these artists. Anyways, Sara's new book is "Norse Mythology: The Gods, Goddesses, and Heroes Handbook: From Vikings to Valkyries, an Epic Who's Who in Old Norse Mythology." The book literally came out 10 days ago. If you want to learn more about the mythology featuring from which Marvel's Thor and Loki derive, I suggest you pick it up and check it out.

Brianna Garcia had fun at Everfree Northwest. She's been keeping busy with some major personal projects, but she hopes she'll be doing some more comic work in the near future.
Agnes Garbowska has a new IDW My Little Pony comic book scheduled to come out on Wednesday!

That's right, she is the artist on My Little Pony: Black, White, & Blue and she cannot wait to share the book with everyone!

And it's a good thing she doesn't have to wait long since the comic launched at NYCC yesterday.

While I have said my piece about the quality of this particular convention exclusive comic cover, I will say that Agnes's art is rock solid in this issue. You are in for a treat when it comes out in 6 days.

Now... why is Agnes holding an illustration of Trusty Splendor?
Well, as it turns out I didn't get all my shopping done yesterday. I did go out and purchase a couple of commissions from Agnes and Brianna.

I have made it a personal mission to ask every artist who has worked on the My Little Pony comics to draw Trusty for me. Now while Agnes drew my original OC, she hadn't drawn Trusty. So I had to get that sorted. I also asked Brianna to illustrate Trusty as well... mostly because it dawned on me while I was on the flight home from EFNW that I should have asked her at the show when I had the chance.

As you can see they are both fantastic pieces and that is one of the joys of any comic con. You see, most artists at the con open up commission lists to complete during the show. And those commissions can be for just about anything you can think of.

And it is magic seeing a character or idea you had in your head come to life on the paper. One I happily try to make happen at every con I attend.
IDW's Star Trek Panel didn't have any Pony news so I left the show a little early and walked to Union Square. Why? Well, there's a new shop I wanted to check out called Partea NYC.

Yes that is a horrible pun. More importantly, it's a quick service restaurant that imported gachapon machines from Japan and imports gachapon prizes on a regular basis.

Did I happen to win anything fun?
I would have to say, yes.

Anyways folks, tomorrow is primarily Star Trek Day, however I will be covering the IDW TMNT panel at 10:45 AM on the off chance they announce a MLP x TMNT crossover. Until then this has been the Illustrious Q. See you tomorrow.
