What do you think about the fact that most of the parents for the main characters in G5 haven't been revealed (or potentially never will)? Even in cases where we know of one parent (like for Sunny, Pipp, and Zipp), we don't know the other.
There is definitely a good opportunity for story arcs about this. In G4 one of the best episodes of the series was about Applejack's parents, and we just got an arc about Misty's father (but not mother x_x) in Chapter 5. Regardless, I'm not convinced they are going to do a similar kind of arc in G5 after that with as limited as the episode count is (at least for Make Your Mark).
All in all, I don't think it gets in the way of the story too much that we don't know these things, but it can help breathe some more life into the characters if we learn more about them.
