Take everything about G4 and clone it, but change the art style to something much less appealing. Do you think the show would have been anywhere near as popular as it was? Personally, I don't think so. In the end, I don't think we would have anywhere near the reach we had if Friendship is Magic didn't rock its super cute almost cat-like mares running around doing adventures. Even if we took older generations of My Little Pony and had that as our style with everything else the same, I doubt we'd have as many people celebrating cartoon horses here today. I know I probably wouldn't have been drawn to it.
What is it about these models that make them so perfect? Did Lauren Faust just accidently tap into some weird internal section of our brains that demands this specific shape?
