• NYCC 2021 Coverage: Day Zero-Vaccine Verification Day

    Hello Equestria Daily!

For the first time in over two years, I shall be reporting to you from the hallow halls of the Javits Center for New York Comic Con!

Now why am I starting the coverage on day zero as opposed to day one? Well, there's actually something I need to talk about.

No, it is not the Amtrak Train I took from Boston to NYC. Though the use of trains is importing for climate change, and they are a lot more comfortable than taking the bus, there is actually something really important that should be done for NYCC BEFORE the convention starts tomorrow.

What that something is, you'll be able to find out after the break!

Ah. 34th Street! How I have missed you!

Though I will note in the two years it has been since the last NYCC, the city of New York has managed to put up a couple of sky scrapers that weren't on the street before.

It's a weird feeling walking down this street and seeing walls of glass where empty lots that were also holes in the ground used to be.

And there's the Javits Center! Oh how I missed this building. Though I am not going there right now.

I will be going to a location right across the street from it.

Which also happens to be the point of this blog.

This is New York Comic Con's Off-Site Vaccine Verification hub. NYCC has two additional requirements for attending the show this year in light of the ongoing global COVID-19 Pandemic. The first is that everyone regardless of badge level is required to wear a mask at all times while in the Javits Center.

This is the policy of the show, the convention center, and New York City.

The second one is you have to show proof of full vaccination prior to entering the show. This is also the policy of the show, the convention center, and New York City.

To help ease this process, NYCC has partnered with the Clear app to show you vaccination status while also giving you the option of not showing your physical CDC vaccination card. Once proof of vaccination has been shown to the NYCC Staffer, you will be given a green wrist band--which you must wear for the duration of the show--showing that they have verified your vaccination status.

This is important because if you remove your wrist band for any reason, you will be required to re-verify your vaccination status every time you want to enter the Javits Center.

And considering this is New York Comic Con, the line to do this will be very long. Save yourself some time and only do this once!

For my own experience, I have both the Clear App and my Vaccine Card on me in case my phone were to die while gallivanting about the city. Restaurants throughout the city will accept your paper card as proof of vaccination.

But once vaccinated, you'll be able to proceed into either the queue line for the convention once the show starts tomorrow, or to will call to pick up your badges.

Unsurprisingly, the biggest show being advertised for NYCC right above will call is Star Trek Prodigy, which will be making its world premiere on Sunday of the show.

Yes I will be at the panel.

Until tomorrow everyone! This has been The Illustrious Q. Let's go have fun at NYCC.
