It looks like the potential buyout announced last week has crumbled. Mattel eventually responded with a rejection, citing worries of anti-trust laws and complaints that their offer undervalued the company.
For now at least, a new goliath company will not arise from the collaboration of two already gigantic brands. There are always possibilities of further negotiation though. These companies are massive, so a deal like this probably wasn't going to happen in any kind of quick time frame.
