Welcome back to Pony History my friends! Sorry for the lack of updates as of late, I've been really busy with teaching jobs and since this is such a late night feature I had been falling asleep a bit earlier than usual. At any rate, tonight is sort of a history-lite as I spotlight the video that got me into pony years ago.
After the break I'll tell my story and link the vid in the question! Feel free to tell your own stories and give us some suggestions as our barrel is a bit empty at the moment.
I had heard of MLP through advertisements of The Hub launch on other channels back in 2010. At the time I was rather dismissive of the channel, thinking it as nothing but an advertising vehicle for Hasbro to sell more merchandise. I didn't hear about ponies or The Hub until several months later in February 2011 when I ran into a pony thread on a message board I was reading. Thinking that it was a thread making fun of the show I thought it was just a fluke and that it would disappear under the mass of other threads on the site... but it didn't.
The thread remained popular for several days and confused as I was I actually checked the thread out for myself. It wasn't until I watched the video below that I got a look at what sort of animation was in the show, and impressed by what I saw I began to check out the episode links left near the top of the thread. By the end of that weekend I had watched all of season one up to Stare Master, the next new episode.
From there the rest was history, I joined up with pony communities on NeoGAF, KnowYourMeme, and eventually Ponibooru before I was accepted on staff at EqD at the end of 2011. It's been a wild ride and it's always baffling how one little video had such a lasting impact on me. I guess no one thing can be too small, huh?
