Absolute Discord is bringing over 200 new cards to MLP: CCG, and the inside scoop from the development team is that it's the best, most funnerest set of the game so far. If you had to point a finger at the single biggest addition in Absolute Discord, the winner is easily the brand new Chaos mechanic... It's literally a game changer!
Usually if you flip a card during a faceoff you only care about the number in the top right corner of the card. That's all changed with the addition of Chaotic cards, because now there's a chance the card you flip has Chaos text that does something special. Like, in the example above, turn each Main Character card from Start to Boosted or vice versa–right in the middle of the faceoff!
Is your curiosity piqued? Good! Take a look below the break for a run-down on five more new Chaos spoilers for Absolute Discord!
Princess Celestia, Fair but Firm is a good example of a card that has an immediate impact when you play her to the board, but she's also great when flipped for a faceoff: 3 power on a flip isn't bad, with the added benefit of immediately frightening your opponent's most important Friend in the faceoff. Need to knock out their highest power, or maybe neutralize that utility Friend that's giving you trouble? Done!
Owlowiscious on the other hoot isn't bad when played to the field and might end up refunding part of his price, but when you flip him during a faceoff he's worth an instant action token to you plus doesn't lose you the flip!
As you can see on Chaos Capital of the World, not just Friends have Chaos text. Achoo! (that's a fun card title to say) is fun to play when you have a handful of cards and your opponent is down to their last two or three. Watch them squirm in their seat as they decide which of their power plays they have to ditch! Meanwhile, flipping Achoo! (still fun to say) for a faceoff is 4 power plus a random discard for free. Nice.
Then there's Rarity, Sudden Inspiration! It's true that flipping her effectively gives you a 0 for that flip, but when you are getting a free banish of an opponent's Friend that's often worth it! Especially if you have cards that can let you stack the flip in your favor... We'll talk about that in some future combo article.
Chaos Capital of the World is one crazy card. Play it during the Main Phase and you Boost or un-Boost each Mane Character, and frighten or un-frighten each Friend, depending on which side they're on. Did your opponent just frighten all your Friends at a Problem with a Villain? Has your opponent Boosted their Mane and left you in the dust? Turn the tables!
And last but certainly not least, Big Mac, All Bark, No Bite! Yes, folks, he's a Critter. Deal with it. Also deal with the fact that he lets you take your opponent's Friends in play and put them back into their hands. No refunds. Doing this for free in the middle of a faceoff is a nice cherry on top.
This is just a small sample of the Chaos in Absolute Discord. We haven't even spoiled half of the Chaotic cards in the set yet, so keep your eyes peeled for more reveals over on @MLP_CCG on Twitter. The map for Absolute Discord Prerelease stores is coming soon, so you'll know where to go on the weekend of April 24-26 to be the first to get your hands on the new set. Stay tuned!
