Nightly Discussion #198
by Calpain
Twilight Sparkle doesn't make a very happy looking Christmas decoration. Maybe someone should get her down from there?
Woo! Weekend time my friends! Let's do this!

I'd read that book, wouldn't you? It'd be worth it for the icy boogie board scene alone. Perhaps some time in the yet uncertain future? A mare can dream. But this is not an event about books, this is an event about art! Your wonderful, amazing art that's only continuing to show improvement. Today features another 364 ponies both frozen and not. This brings our grand total to 6060 images! How much farther can we push this in the time we have left? Can we reach 7000? I think so!
We're so very close to the end of the event now. I know the burnout is real. From comments I've been reading, I know there are nights where the prompt doesn't really catch your eye and give you ideas. I'm very sorry if I haven't managed to ignite the spark on each and every night; I'm trying my hardest, I promise. But relying on motivation is a very dangerous game. Motivation is fickle and disappears without warning. It's a good boost, but to get things done over the long haul, it takes you deciding that you want to push through, no matter what. To everybody sitting there right now, feeling tired and wanting to walk away: forge ahead! We are sooooo close to the finish line. You can't imagine how proud you'll feel if you just stick it out a few days longer.
Today we have a returning prize in the still-unreleased Applejack bank from Diamond Select. These things are cool and very well made, so don't miss out on this second chance to score one! Thank you again to Diamond Select. It's not an easy thing to find 15 days worth of prizes, especially with all of the approval processes that need to be danced around as official vendors. We really appreciate your hard work and generosity; you've helped make this event wonderful.
But now, our Day 10 winner! Coming to us at #71 with their OC lifting up the star to finish up his tree decorating, congratulations to kira3901! We'll be in touch shortly.
Today feels like another good day for a prompt with a relaxing mindset. We've been reaching and stretching and pulling and pushing and freezing for almost two weeks now, I think a chance to come inside and "think warm" is a good way to recharge the creative batteries before the final leg. Tonight, Draw a pony by the hearth/Draw a pony enjoying cocoa. There's a lot of great things about the cold, but my favorite has always been warming back up afterwards. Show me what you've got!
Submit all entries here by December 13 at 9 PM Mountain Standard Time (GMT -7). But before you do, watch your step. If you fall below the page break, you'll wind up neck deep in our gallery! Ok, maybe that was a stretch?

This is one reason I really love the Apple Family. They are just so tight knit and with the idea of AJ, Big Mac, and Applebloom's parents being gone it really strikes home that they are doing the best they can with what they have.

Hello, Internet. Do you see this man? This man, right here? Once upon a time, he was known to us as Mike Vogel, VP of development and scripted entertainment for Hasbro Studios. If you attended the San Diego Comic-Con MLP panel over the past three years, you've seen this guy at the podium showing off all the cool pony future Hasbro had to offer.
Take our word for it that this guy's all right, because he's gonna be updating his LinkedIn profile after announcing his new role as co-executive producer of the upcoming 2017 MLP pony movie.
Not the actual poster, of course, but you get the picture. Ha! Get it?
Grab his side of events below the break, and get commenting! It definitely speaks volumes that Mr. Vogel is stepping away from other Hasbro IPs like Littlest Pet Shop and Transformers so he can focus his attention on horses, and from what it sounds like, this movie is only the start of interesting things to come. Where are we headed from here?

I never did get to do that whole snowball fight thing. Arizona kinda sucks during that time.
Onward to the art! Get it all below.

The Top 5 Best Looking Ponies Wearing Socks, and a Brief History on their Impact on the Fandom!
by Sethisto
Many years ago, in a fandom far far away, the idea of socked equines started to take hold of the art community. Where exactly it originated is arguable. Many point to this Fluttershy image as being the actual first instance of it way back in February of 2011. The fad didn't begin here on EQD until that Luna up above arrived from Egophiliac, based on a post about random merchandise socks at a Target. It went up so long ago, that it's primary news point wasn't on socks, but the fact that Celestia was actually white for once in the world of official Hasbro merchandise (she used to be pink).
As with most things in the online pony community, if it gains any ground at all, it goes viral. From the ridiculous commercials that air during new episodes, to ponies in all sorts of weird situations, you just can't stop the fandom ball once it starts rolling. These slopes are steep!
Luna eventually lead to an army of others, with an entire Drawfriend post dedicated to ponies covering their hooves only a week and a half later. Socks were here to stay. It wasn't just a fad anymore, and to this day we are bombarded with it constantly. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Now go, friends, minions, citizens of ponyland. It's time to celebrate socked ponies! Get our top 5 favorites below the break.

Story: The New Crop
by Calpain
[Slice of Life][Dark]
Author: xjuggernaughtx
Description: A long time ago, my family moved to Appleloosa, and we ain't had no luck since. We tried growing apples, but our orchards just never took right. Now, the bank's gonna repossess unless we can get some bits together real fast. No, we ain't never been lucky, but in that ring, I don’t need luck. I’m one win away from saving our farm, and Granny says that tonight I’m fighting some fancy unicorn named Blueblood. Ain’t no way I’m losing with so much on the line. This ain't gonna be pretty. In fact, I can just about guarantee it’ll be real, real ugly.

A gaming project going by the name of Master of Parasprites is currently in development from a guy over in Russia. Look at that main character up there. I thought it was Ezreal from League of Legends at first. Just seeing that makes me want to ADVENTURE.
The general premise is to travel Equestria digging into the hidden mysteries behind Parasprites, by finding, collecting, and cataloguing them all into The Great Knowledgebase. You may be asking, "But aren't they pretty simple little creatures?" not in this case.
Parasprites in Master of Parasprites are actually different than the show versions. Taking on the form of spirits of nature, representing all sorts of things throughout the land, these mysterious creatures are only visible to a certain type of pony who's talents were passed down from generation to generation. The "Parasprite Masters" as they are called, devote their lives to studying the spirits, and unlocking the secrets of the world.
One other non-spritey creature that has been revealed so far is the Valley Guardian, mysterious boulders that sleep for hundreds of years, and awaken only when the valley needs to be protected.
That's about it for now! Head on down below the break for a boatload of screenshots and two videos!

I guess there are some beasts that even Fluttershy can't tame, eh? Guess it always helps to have a plan B.

ah ain't crying by NolyCS
Late last night, the folks over at Everfree Network announced that they will be closing down shop beginning on January 1st, 2015. I personally wanted to take a moment to thank them for all their hard work in the last few years. EFN made it possible for a lot of us to experience conventions, like BronyCon, at home when it wasn't possible to go out and visit the convention. I'm sure, like me, many of you viewed the EFN streams and enjoyed them so much that you went to your first pony convention to experience it in person.
Thank you Everfree Network and to all the folks behind it that made it possible for so many years of great content. To all those involved, best of luck in your future endeavors.
To those of you who enjoy Everfree Radio, don't fret because EFR isn't going anywhere. Beginning on January 1st, 2015 you'll be able to enjoy EFR at its new home at Canterlot Hill. The other shows hosted on EFN will let you know of their own plans via the usual methods of communication they use.
Editor's Note: I had the great privilege to run and maintain the Everfree Network News website from July 2013 to April 2014. It was quite an adventure and I loved every single minute of it. As with anything in life though, one must move on and venture into new territory. Thanks for the memories! -
