The life of a comic artist is not an easy one. Sure you get to set your own hours, be your own boss, and work as much or as little as you want on any given day (assuming your freelance of course). However, after having interviewed 5 comic artists to date, it's not hard to imagine how busy life can be for artists that are in demand. Always constantly working in order to bring in their next payday.
Like the extremely talented Amy Mebberson for instance.
Third Party Sellers original comic art sellers like Cadence Comic Art have been around for a while now. Each seller specializes in a certain type of product (for example, a third party seller that specializes in selling original comic art from Marvel Comics). In the case of Cadence, they specialize in comic book covers.
This is siginificant for one reason: Out of all the art that Amy Mebberson has done for the comic, only her covers exist as physical hand drawn originals. All of her interior comic art is digital. Meaning if you want to own an official original piece of art that was used in an IDW MLP Comic by artist Amy Mebberson, you have to buy one of her covers.
16 MLP Covers can be found here, for anyone interested in owning a rare piece of MLP Comic history.
A word of caution though, be ready for the high sticker price. When not at auction on eBay, original comic covers on very successful comic properties are not cheap.
