And now we have the always awesome Calpain! In many ways Cal is sort of the balance for Seth. When things get too crazy, Calpain will be there to straighten things out. Meet him below!
So introduce yourself, what's your name, when did you join EQD, what do you do?
C: My name is Calpain and I'm currently the secondary admin on Equestria Daily. I joined up with the fandom in February 2011 after finding pony on a forum I used to visit back then and have been hooked ever since. At first I mainly handled the comics, plushies, and craft/custom compilations but eventually ended up running the Tumblr and Artist Spotlights, doing the Nightly Roundups, the discussion posts each night, a lot of community oriented posts, and creating the Brony Meetup Map, Game Index, and Tutorial pages. Besides that I usually just grab whatever interesting info you guys send in and post it up!
When I'm not doing pony things I'm a biologist with a Masters degree and two years PhD training. I originally got my Masters in studying Alzheimer's Disease for two years and then spent two years working on Parkinson's Disease in my PhD program. Currently I am training to take on a teaching position in high school as I found out I loved to teach during my graduate school days. Besides work I have been an avid gamer my whole life and I love to read and watch movies whenever I can.
What's the best thing about working for EQD and what do you do in your spare time?
C: Best thing about working for EqD is the ability to get people's stuff out there and introducing a new artist/musician/comic maker/ect to the fandom at large. I've met a lot of great people through just working on the site and I'm sure to meet many more in the future.
What's your favourite episode and whose your fave pony?
C: Sleepless in Ponyville is still one of my faves. A lot of development for both Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash in that one. As for favorite pony, I really like them all to a degree, but my faves are a tie between Twilight Sparkle and Applejack. Twilight for being an adorkable nerd and AJ because I like her family oriented spirit and the fact she grew up in the country, much like myself.
Do you think EQD helps the fandom?
It certainly serves as a great community hub for people who like to hang around here. I do believe the site does help give people exposure and does help when projects or charities are in need of a boost. We might make silly choices and mistakes at times but I'd like to think the site has a net positive on the fandom at large.
Is Seth really as crazy to work with as everyone thinks?
Mainly during hiatus does he get to be that way, heh. Otherwise he is pretty open about things and a good guy to share the responsibilities of admin with. When one of us is out of commission the other is always willing to step in and that dynamic helps keep things working (somewhat) smoothly on EqD.
Thanks for the awesome interview Calpain if you want to find him you can locate him on twitter here and his comic is here.
