Remember way back in the day when Shapeways pony stuff was being axed? It looks like good news is on the horizon for those of you collecting those. According to the New York Times, Shapeways has teamed up with Hasbro to sell fan art style Friendship is Magic figurines.
A quote from the article:
“We have been investigating 3-D printing for quite a while, as have many people,” said John Frascotti, chief marketing officer at Hasbro. “What 3-D printing truly empowers is the creation of artwork that maybe wouldn’t make sense for mass production, but it makes sense for a unique item.”
From the image above, some of the classics from way back in the day are already popping up. That's right, instead of going all the way with a C&D, Hasbro just hired the artists instead. How awesome is that?
Head on down below the break for images and more information!
Super Fan Art already lists a whole bunch of figures, from that awesome Spike with the quill and writing stand, to a full on Nightmare Moon. It sounds like they plan on expanding this to include way more artists, more figurines, and different types of material. They even have plans for iPhone cases and a plethora of other trinkets.
They have signups on the bottom. If you are a 3D Pony artist, be sure to hop on if your interested in selling figures.
