Everfree Northwest 2014: Pre-Con Panel Livestreams
Good day fellow Equestrian Literati.
The Everfree Northwest Writing Track has run into a problem. We have too many writing events to run for just a three-day con. And we don’t want to force people to stay up from dusk till dawn. That’s right, even with running events all day we could not fit everything in without overlapping the events we want to run, or having our events at awkward times.
So we came up with a solution, online pre-con panels. This means that we will stream panels once a month until the con using some of the same panelists that will be attending the convention.
The first panel, on Setting, will livestream on Saturday April 26th, 2014 at 7:30 PM Pacific Time on our YouTube Stream channel, EverfreeNWStream
. A direct link to the stream will be provided on our social media a short time before the panel goes live. We have a crackerjack team consisting of Pen Stroke, Soundslikeponies, and Piquo Pie.
Setting, at its core, is "where the story happens," but establishing a convincing setting is difficult work. Here, we'll discuss how to make a believable world, how to take an existing one and make it your own, how to create a culture, consistency, the fanon/canon divide, and when/how to take a story away from source material without feeling forced.
Upcoming pre-con panels will feature, Plot, in May, and in June we will feature, Character.
Have fun and pony on. And as always, keep up to date on the latest EFNW news (like the direct link for the panel stream) by visiting our website
, liking us on Facebook, and following us on Twitter and tumblr-Piquo Pie
BronyCAN 2014 - Georgia Ball
Exciting things are still in the works for BronyCAN 2014, especially as we announce our latest guest of honor. We are pleased to welcome comic book writer for the My Little Pony and Strawberry Shortcake series, Georgia Ball! And for fans of Littlest Pet Shop, she is the writer for the new comic book series coming out this May!
Georgia she worked for several years as a Flash animator for IBM and the Cartoon Network, where she met and married fellow animator Scott Ball. They collaborated on a series of animated shorts and games and promoted them by launching a webcomic called "Scooter and Ferret" in 2004. While Georgia grew as a web developer, she also had to grow as a writer to keep the strip afloat. In 2010 an editor for Ape Entertainment contacted her and asked her to write for their new Strawberry Shortcake comic book series. Since then she's published stories for Kung Fu Panda, Fruit Ninja and My Little Pony for IDW. Her latest comic book series, Littlest Pet Shop, will be released in stores in May 2014.
Don’t forget to reserve your room at the Executive! Book alone or with friends or family and you’ll only be steps away from all the excitement at the convention. Use our promo code “BRONYCAN” and you’ll earn a sweet discount, as well as complimentary extras: overnight parking, high-speed Wi-Fi, and access to the airport shuttle. You can head right to the booking page here.
And while you’re registering for a pass, we’ve still got plenty of opportunities for you to join add other events to your BronyCAN 2014 experience, like tickets to our VIP dinner, the ice cream social, and thrilling MLP collectible card game tournament!

Czequestria
www.czequestria.cz
Prague, Prague, Czech Republic
Czequestria is the first dedicated My Little Pony convention in the history of Czech and Slovak brony community. It brings folks from both countries together, to celebrate with our favourite colourful equine friends! But not to worry − the Czequestria’s primary language is set as English. Many of us visited various conventions over the whole Europe and now we wish to share the joys of being a brony through Czequestria! The convention itself isn't all that we can offer as the city of Prague, the capital of Czech Republic, has much to witness from its rich history and unique sights, like the famous astronomical clock tower − Orloj or the Prague Castle. You can explore the city during our MLP-themed LARP event scheduled for Friday on 29th August. So why not use this unique opportunity to meet new friends as well as visit the historical heart of Europe?
Horseshoe Falls - Art Help Needed
Since Horseshoe Falls Equestria is quickly reaching the point where we need to start spreading the word across the Brony community, we need your help! In this post, we are asking for something very specific: a fresh, creative mascot to headline our brand. We are calling out to the amazingly talented artists that we have within our community to help us design it, even you! Think of it as a contest - the design which is most interesting, creative, and representative of the Niagara area will become the official mascot of HFEQ! However, there can be more than one winner, if we cant decide on a single one that really stands out, as we expect. If this happens, we may have a whole Horseshoe Falls 'gang' of friends on our hooves! However, none of this will happen without you! So:
In a single, organized email to HFEQ staff (chair.hfeq@gmail.com or vicechair.hfeq@gmail.com) please email an image hosting site link (i.e. DropBox or Imgur), to your mascot design and colour palette (a list of colours used in each part of the design), as well as a few short sentences about the following:
-Your actual name.
-Your mascot's name.
-An isolated, front-on view of the Cutie Mark (if applicable), and an explanation of what it is and what it represents.
-A brief (one paragraph or less) description of your creation's background, personality, and how he/she represents Niagara Falls as a whole - this one is quite important, so choose your words wisely!
-A concise, but in-depth, explanation about how each part of your creation - mane, coat, cutie mark, etc. - represents Niagara Falls and its residents, our convention's values (feel free to contact us at either chair.hfeq@gmail.com or vicechair.hfeq@gmail.com for more information regarding this), and why it stands out.
That's all! Here's a short list of 'suggestions' for aspects your design can represent: The Niagara Falls themselves, the dam/turbines/generators behind the Falls that power a massive area of Canada, the residents of the area, local First Nations culture, and - we do like this one - the Maid of the Mist.
Unfortunately, as much as we know creativity hates boundaries, we do have to set down some amount of rules so that our contest remains consistent and appropriate.
-No content that could be considered offensive to ANY group - children, religious groups/ethnicities/races, or ESPECIALLY First Nations Peoples. Appreciating First Nations art and incorporating it is not only acceptable, but highly recommended, so long as it does not conflict with the previous guidelines. There is a fine line that must not be crossed. We have confidence, in each and every one of you, that we will have no issues with anything of the sort.
-Using non-pony races are acceptable - in fact, we hope to see at least a few submissions of deer, wolves, bears, or similar forest wildlife. However, please don't use mythological species (gryphons/hippogryphs, krakens, etc.) unless you have an excellent reason for it. Remember, this is an All-Brony convention!
That should about do it for super-annoying rules. However, one last teensy-tiny little request before we end this post: even if you don't win the contest, or didn't even enter, please don't hesitate to contact us at applications.hfeq@gmail.com and offer to volunteer or join our planning team. We will gladly welcome you to our creative team, where your artistic/creative skills will be greatly appreciated and put to use helping make Horseshoe Falls Equestria the Best Brony convention to date!
Now for the good part! PRIZES!
Not only will the winner of this contest have their design(s) featured in ALL official HFEQ media, but the winner/winners will receive a 3-Day Pass and an Exclusive 'Designer' T-Shirt (your character featured on a t-shirt, and Designer, written in big bold font).
Cheers, and good luck! We hope to see some excellent designs from the talented members of this community!
Sincerely,
The Horseshoe Falls Equestria Team
