Rainbow Dash, the bookworm? It just goes to show that any characterization is legal with enough justification and maybe an Indiana Jones reference or seven.
I couldn't tell you how many times an early fanfiction starring Rainbow Dash would start with her breaking her wings in some morbid fashion and then having to deal with the consequences, which is why the beginning of this episode was more than amusing to watch (spoilers, Dash hurts one of her wings and has to deal with the consequences). What more of a polar opposite for our chromatic marshmallow to try to entertain her with than a book? Apparently it made a lasting impression, too, since we can see Dash reading Daring Do novels in the background of additional scenes throughout the rest of the season.
Aside from the aforementioned Indiana Jones-inspired Daring Do character, this episode was chock full of goodies. We got an appearance from another historical mythical creature (a Ahuizotl, to be specific), confirmation that ponies do indeed wear sweaters, and probably the cutest thing ever created by man. There will be a new one of those every week, but right now, it's that.
