As many of you are probably already aware, a company called Mimobot has released flash drives of Rainbow Dash, Twilight and Rarity. I grabbed two of them to review, and to see what exactly was included.
I was especially curious about the Under the Sparkling Sea book preview. They didn't disappoint here. The Gallery section has some pretty epic images, which have already flooded Derpibooru.
Find those, and an overview of everything else included after the break.
And if you want some of your own, hit their website up.
First off is the video. For those that didn't pick up the Shout Factory DVD a while back, the intro sequence for MLP FiM has a two minute extended version which is included on the drive. It's your typical SD resolution, but I don't think they have an HD one floating around anywhere yet.
The book section is the most interesting. If you haven't already succumbed to draw of the MLP comic, the entire first issue is available here. They also include sketch pages for those of you interested in the process of creating said comic series. And in the last slot, a short preview of Under the Sparkling Sea.
I'm going to go off on a tangent real quick here and talk about the Under the Sparkling Sea book, which has received a relatively negative reaction from the brony community, primarily due to the change in art style on the ponies themselves. Rarity especially looks a little odd. I do have to commend the artist on everything else though. As seen below in the Gallery section, the overall art is great looking. The preview itself is only a couple of pages, but it looks pretty similar to your usual FiM episode. I'm pretty curious about what exactly we will see from it!
The third major section is the Gallery. You will find both the season one and season two posters, as well as three full images of the Under the Sparkling Sea book.
Seriously, this art is awesome. Yeah, the pony models look a little old-gen, but the color and detail is beautiful.
And finally the music area. At first I was expecting the usual singalong versions of each of these that are included in just about everything, but all four songs are pretty different from their show versions, even going so far as to use completely new singers.
As for the drives themselves, they include a little light on the far end that lets you know when data is transferring, and a removable cap where the head is for the plugin. I suck at anything with caps, so I'm a bit worried about losing their heads at one point, that might be a personal issue. And as you can see, Twilight has been upgraded with wings here in the world of computer hardware too.
Overall, they get the job done. Their icons also show up as their specific ponies as seen below:
And yes, I just transferred a 2gb book folder directly into Twilight Sparkle's brain. You thought wings were bad? Lets see what we can make her grow with an entire library of books at once!
DOH!
