With the ending of our third season of pony and the drought ahead of us it's important to reflect on the past and what brought us to this point. Considering I introduced the Blast from the Past series at the end of season 2 I thought it would be appropriate to start it up again and blow the cobwebs off. I would also like to thank those of you who sent me emails asking when the next edition would come out as well as being patient with me during the long wait.

Rhythm is Magic: Peckish Pony 2
First on our list of older videos is Peckish Pony 2! Landing on Youtube in Oct 2011 this addicting and silly little animation based on the Rhythm Heaven games was a big hit and spawned many different Rhythm is Magic videos down the line. This animation along with others released in October 2011 and beyond marked a turning point where pony animations started to become more and more common, eventually becoming a regular staple in the pony community.
Epic Cupcake Time
Speaking of animations, it would be negligent of me not to mention one of most popular animations in the fandom: Epic Cupcake Time. Also released in Oct 2011, this outrageous little short introduced to us to extreme baking with Pinkie Pie and led to a series of successful animations by the creator as well as catchphrases like 'Hay Bacon Strips'. A piece of community history, this one is a must see for those of you new to the fandom!
Derpy Cardcaptor
I told you that animations blew up after October 2011! Finishing out that year was the release of an animation starring everyone's favorite mail mare to the tune of the Cardcaptor intro. First appearing in Dec 2011 this amazing cute parody continued to show that given the right character ponies can really crossover with just about anything.
Team Fortress 2 - Sandvich
As mentioned in previous Blast posts, ponies and TF2 have a very intertwined relationship considering how many pony fans are also fans of TF2 as well. Everything from Gmod videos, comics, artwork, and even more recently Source Filmmaker have combined ponies and the TF2 gang together. Rarely though have animations been made of the two together and none are more perfect than Sandvich. Released in Sept 2011 the animation guru Zeurel combined the audio created by 2007excalibur2007 with his animation skills to create the gem above.
Arcane Equine
They can't all be animations, right? That would be too boring! So to end the video section of this Blast edition we'll end with another example of pony being combined with another fan favorite: Touhou. Many earlier animations, especially PMVs, combined Touhou's music and concepts with our colorful little equines, a practice still found today! Coming to us from July 2011, Arcane Equine is a catchy PMV that combines an epic track with scenes of everyone's favorite purple pony. Check it out above!

This Day in Pony History - February 18, 2011-2012
2012 - The Traveling Pony Museum, which showcases pony artwork at various meetups and conventions around the United States, first gets its start on this day!
2011 - Remember the Toy Fair news just a little while ago? Look what was on offer at about the same time two years ago!
