BronyCon is pleased to announce its official charity for Summer 2012: Child’s Play! Child’s Play’s mission is to “seek to improve the lives of children in hospitals around the world through the kindness and generosity of the video game industry and the power of play.” The charity puts together wish lists of video games, toys, books, and other fun things for kids to do, and uses the donations they receive to purchase these items and deliver them to the kids who need them in over 70 hospitals around the world. You can find more information at their website, http://childsplaycharity.org/
Child’s Play is a fantastic organization, and BronyCon is proud to have them as our charity of choice. What does this mean specifically for the charity, and for you, the attendee? Quite a few things actually. First, we will have a table set up for donations. We will be accepting cash donations, all proceeds of which will be donated in their entirety directly to Child's Play!
BronyCon will also be collecting donations of unopened toys and non-expired canned goods, to be delivered to local charitable organizations in the New York / New Jersey metropolitan area! Even if you can't bring in canned goods or toys from home there are stores just two minutes of walking away from the convention center that sell both, so you can still do good for those in need!
Last but certainly not least, as the official charity of BronyCon Summer 2012, 50% of all proceeds from the charity auction at 7 PM on Saturday will go directly to Child's Play! If you have a unique, awesome, one of a kind pony item that you would like to donate to the auction, you can e-mail our Charity Director Cupcakes with information. He can be reached at cupcakes@bronycon.org . We will be accepting donations for the auction both at the convention and by mail, so even if you can’t make it but want to support a good cause you can still help out.
Speaking of one of a kind items, we have an amazing one on offer this time. The Comic Con pony posters are already pretty rare, right? However, Purple Tinker has graciously donated her Comic Con poster, gifted to her directly by The Hub, signed by the likes of Tara Strong, Andrea Libman, Ashleigh Ball, Cathy Weseluck, Michelle Creber, Claire Corlett, Madeline Peters, Richard Cox, Lee Tockar, Brenda Crichlow, Tabitha St. Germain, Nicole Oliver, and to make it all complete, the one and only Lauren Faust!
That’s right, this poster has been signed by the creator of the show, as well as the entire season 1 cast! It also includes the original letter of authenticity sent from The Hub with a description of the item, as well as a personal note to the fandom from, and signed by, Greg Heanue, Vice President of Marketing and Promotions with The Hub! One choice quote from the letter reads, "The only thing better than the program, are the fans like you!" This is truly a one of a kind item, and one that we hope will bring in a ton of money for such a worthy cause.
This is Haybuck and Cupcakes with BronyCon, signing out. We can’t wait to see you all there!
