Some of you may have run into an issue with the audio de-syncing on the first and second episode of the Friendship Express DVD. It looks like Shout Factory is offering to replace your disc if yours is suffering from this/
A quote from their Youtube page:
We have also received a few reports from people that ordered their DVD's from Barnes and Noble, saying that their orders have been delayed. Whether this is to replace Derpy, or fix the audio, remains to be seen.
Thanks to Jessica for the Image! |
Now one thing to note before you rush to that email address and submit your disc for a replacement: Derpy isn't guaranteed to be intact. You will probably receive a second wave version, which is completely up in the air in terms of which version of her will be on it. They did mention that the audio fix is the only change, but I'd err on the side of caution. Considering Friendship Express with the old Derpy is pretty much a collectors item at this point, you might want to consider sacrificing the first two episodes for the sake of holding on to her, or at least wait a bit.

ReplyDeleteif so

Time warp I guess
ReplyDeletemeh hope they keep the original derpy!!!! Don't ruin her!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI still haven't received my copy yet. Though it's already shipped, so I have yet to see if there are problems on it or anything.
ReplyDeleteSo are all the pre-orders first wave? Mine just got shipped from Amazon.
ReplyDeleteDerpy is what's important and I'd rather watch the first two in Her this is just for collection
ReplyDeleteI can deal with the audio issue. Its really only noticeable if you are looking for it, at least in my humble opinion. Also, my second copy is remaining shrink wrapped.
ReplyDeleteWho wants to do a YouTube rant on Pony haters how they are all f*CKTARDS
ReplyDeleteI suppose this is one way to find out if the second batch of corrected dvd's will have the 'corrected,' non-derpy version of The Last Roundup.
ReplyDeleteIt's a trap!
ReplyDeleteUnless we can get confirmation, I'd venture to guess replacement discs will be Derpy-less. If you got a first run disc, hang on to it for dear life!
Well, at least they're offering to replace the discs effected by the audio glitch. Which is what I'd expect from any good business. Though yeah, the first wave of discs could almost be considered collectable. Especially if the next wave replaces the original Derpy dialogue with the new dialogue.
ReplyDeleteI'll wait and see if the second printing still has Derpy. If it doesn't then I'll just keep my current disk.
ReplyDeleteYou're getting my 1st gen Friendship Express DVD over my cold dead body, audio desynch or no.
ReplyDeleteThe solution is actually really easy. If you have a glitched disc with Derpy intact, *buy* a second one. If the second one is *also* glitched, take the offer and have them replace it. That way, you'll have both Derpy intact - the collector's item - AND an unglitched disc for watching.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteDid no one read the youtube comment? They said no other changes (excluding fixing the audio in episode 1) has been made.
ReplyDeleteIs the de-syncing really that noticeable?
ReplyDelete@keneticpest
ReplyDeleteHASBRO also told us nothing would happen to Derpy, I guess completely changing the scene she's in counts as nothing. I say hold on to the disc you have and tell Hasbro to screw off.
Gonna have to try to hop my ass down to Kmart in hopes Of finding one tomorrow. Still sucks that they just couldn't leave her alone though. :/ Oh well if I find one like most ppl are doing get 1 and use it and 1 unopened and worth thousands :P
ReplyDeleteQuite depressing knowing Derpy will never sound the same again. It also annoy's the fuck out of me how she now sounds like some dumb blonde bimbo, please Hasbro no more derpy speaking roles. I will gauge my eyes out if I have to hear her speak.
ReplyDeleteTo all the lucky DvD owners, don't; for the love of god don't! Knowing Hasbro they'll pull a sly one.
@Pirate RobotKnowing HASBRO they will rape your dog and then wonder why we aren't thankful. LOL
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI sent an Email to them asking if The Last Roundup is changed. I also have a DVD with the desync problem.
ReplyDeleteI e-mailed Shout for a new disc. I don't know why people are getting worried about having to give up their old discs..and maybe this is because i've only had to do the replacement thing about 2 times, but both times i've done replacements with companies in the past they just let me keep the old disc too....but then again maybe Shout works differnatly then say...NISA, lol.
ReplyDeleteI got mine from Amazon today. Derpy is fully intact and glorious, but the audio at the end of episode 1 is out of sync by about one second.
ReplyDeleteI am going to be holding on to my "derped" copy.
Oh Derpy, you derp everything you touch! Who's a silly pony? Who is? You is!
I sent an Email to them asking if The Last Roundup is changed. I also have a DVD with the desync problem.
ReplyDelete@DCJoeDog
ReplyDelete*A* Hasbro employee from the UK told us nothing would happen to Derpy. He probably wasn't updated on it by the North American counterpart.
http://www.equestriadaily.com/2012/02/rumor-derpy-is-here-to-stay.html
I don't know why everyone is so determined to take his lone word as a lie on behalf of the entire company.
Mine's affected, the desynch starts after the second pause of the first episode, when the party starts, the audio is about a split second quicker than the video. After quickly surveying the other episodes, I think I can safely say it's the only part affected.
ReplyDeleteThe pause is noticeable, yes, but frankly I don't mind. I'm the sort of person that takes pride in having a first edition book or DVD, heh. I won't return it, I bought it to support Shout!, and to add to my collection, and it's just as fine that way.
As long as they don't screw up the next one, especially if it has more content.
Five bits says the audio corrected copy has the Derpy edit
ReplyDelete36th comment incoming! Prepare for time warp!
ReplyDeleteIn the digital age no information is antique!
ReplyDeleteMine's doing it. D:
ReplyDeleteStill, I'd rather not risk getting slipped a 'de-derped' copy.
I'll just have to get over my OCD-fueled need for perfect synching, for the sake of keeping the derp alive. xP
WHAT?
ReplyDeleteWell, I sent them an email about it. I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice gesture from Shout-Factory (They make my MST3K DVD sets plus they are honest dudes and a good company in general) its just I don't think I would wanna play Russian roulette with the only good copy of the last roundup.
ReplyDelete@autobotgodzilla
ReplyDeleteLOL you suck, I was literally LMAO on that comment.
@CityFlyer502
ReplyDeleteI actually noticed it myself while playing with the videos for no particular reason, before reading this. I wouldn't bother getting it replaced, even if Derpy is fine. It's realy insignificant and it's not as if I really plan on watching the DVD all the time anyways.
Already bought the DVD, haven't checked my DVD for the DVD defect yet, but if it dose have the defect I will take your word for it, Seth
ReplyDeleteI think assuming that the reprints have the Derpy edit is... kinda paranoid. I mean, I guess I can understand the sentiment, but really? They said that the audio correction was the only edit. I think Shout Factory is more than a little aware of the periphery demographic, thus why they explicitly mentioned how it was the only fix in the first place.
ReplyDeletehttp://dudley.createforumhosting.com/post75727.html#p75727
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I pre-ordered my DVD now. Woo hoo, collector's item! I'm never opening that sucker!
ReplyDeleteCalm down everypony. It is said that they fixed the audio and made no other changes. It's to fix the defective audio bit and has nothing to do with censorship of Derpy Hooves
ReplyDeleteYou know...if we let our wallets speak for us here; we may save Derpy yet.
ReplyDeleteI agree that if you have the money, you should just buy a second one. Given the amount of misinformation that floats around on all sides, I wouldn't put my trust in anything that you can't hold in your hooves.
ReplyDeleteWell I got my dvd and the audio de-sinc is there, but Derpy is intact on The Last Roundup so I'll keep it as it is and be happy. I might get another copy later just to have it play properly but not right now.
ReplyDeletePurchased it, now waiting for it to be delivered :D
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't sound like something that Shout Factory would pull.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'll keep my Unedited and Error Copy. I mean this just means the Disc will probably be harder to come by now.
ReplyDeleteJust checked, my disc is glitched :(
ReplyDelete@Altercation
ReplyDeleteSome of us actually collect error stuff like this. I mean I think the First Shipment of Resident Evil Revelations sold a lot because Collectors found out there was a Typo on the Box.
@Altercation
ReplyDeleteParanoid or not, most of the information we've received about Derpy has been unreliable. If it's something irreplaceable, I would err in the side of caution, as Seth said.
Besides, you can download the episodes from anywhere, probably in better quality than what comes on the DVD lol. The point of buying the official product is to support the show. Also, it is a collectors item.
I bought a bunch of episodes on iTunes that are currently collecting dust on my hard-drive. I watch the pirated versions that free me from the shackles of Apples restrictive format.
@A Bard
ReplyDeleteYou never know, Hasbro could do this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fEjJ4Ecy9Q
Until Shout Factory gives in, I sure hope it doesn't, but you never know with big corporations.
Eh so you all wait a bit to see what happens with the second wave, I didn't see a timeframe in that little cropped image. No big deal right?
ReplyDeleteI bought the DVD on tuesday and it didn't have any problems
ReplyDelete@Beta-Carotene
ReplyDelete"Besides, you can download the episodes from anywhere, probably in better quality than what comes on the DVD"
Actually, the DVD has pretty good image quality. Shout Factory did quite a good job with the encode. I would honestly say it looks better than the 1080p YouTube rips we're used too. I know that sounds a bit counter-intuitive, but remember that YouTube vids are highly compressed, and that they are recordings of an already highly compressed 1080i cable signal.
Audio problem confirmed for mine, that's unfortunate. Oh well, collector's item. And it'll be easier to justify rebuying the episodes if they ever release a box set.
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew which batch mine is in... It's suppose to get here on saturday. ( amazon.com) Is the audio issue really that noticable?
ReplyDelete@mattwhite924
ReplyDeleteI haven't looked at the DVD's so I can't say for sure. I'm not completely up on my hardware specs, but I don't think DVD's support 1080p do they?
Anyway, I have a friend who finds everything in absurdly high quality on the internet, so I know it's possible. Not sure how he does it, but then again, I rarely pirate things.
I think I'll deal with the lack of sync on my current disc and just buy another copy to be safe. I'd rather have the desynced version with Original!Derpy, than turn it in and get the non-classic version.
ReplyDelete@Shannon
ReplyDeleteIt is noticeable, but the reason most of us bought it is for the original Derpy scene which is perfectly fine.
The only part affected is the end of episode 1 after Pinkie says "surprise" to Twilight at the library.
I'd keep the original disc. It's a rare item now, because it was from the first run and it is identified by a minor audio glitch in one of the episodes. People do collect things that have errors in them and keep them because of the errors giving it a greater uniqueness.
ReplyDeleteThen there is the paranoia over Derpy being edited in the corrected discs, and while it may seem like a bit much, after all that has happened, I can totally understand. Once bitten, twice shy, and so on.
@Nightmare Moon
ReplyDeleteThat's basically how I feel. Haven't checked my DVD for the syncing issue (I only watched Derpy/Last Roundup) but there's not a chance I'm ever letting it out of my hands. I'd rather buy two than have one with that replacement voice.
I'll sell my copy for $10,000 ;)
ReplyDeleteJust for the record, I'm not promoting piracy. I never steal from companies that I respect, and I've bought a pretty good amount of merch. While my support of Hasbro is questionable as of late, but the MLP staff still has my full support.
ReplyDeleteI know that's a bit of a paradox, but I'd much rather support the MLP staff than get "revenge" on Hasbro.
I'm just saying that I don't buy from Hasbro because I want the product. I buy because I want to support the show.
@Beta-Carotene
ReplyDeleteNo, DVDs are only 480p. They do tend to have higher bit-rates than 1080p YouTube vids though (DVDs top out at about 8-9 Mbps, YouTube at around 4-5), so for scenes with fast action DVDs tend to look better, for scenes with little motion YouTube can look better. Ideally they would just give us a nice 30Mbps bluray, that would be way better than everything else.
Wow I really missed the point of what I was trying to say.
ReplyDeleteMy point was that this is pretty much Pascals Wager. You have nothing to lose by holding into your current disk because you can just get the correct sync'd versions to actually watch.
On the other hand, by sending it in, no matter how minor the risk is, it's a pointless one.
I should point out that Shout! Factory has in the past not asked for discs in return when there has been glitches, but rather some form of proof of purchase. And others have pointed out, this was only to fix the audio issue, and not any other changes; to do so, would mean the creation of an entirely new master, which would be a lot more expensive than simply doing another run of an existing.
ReplyDelete@mattwhite924
ReplyDeleteAh, I didn't consider that. Now that I think about it, you're absolutely right. Pirated versions tend to be a bit choppy.
You can take Derpy when they pry her from my cold dead hooves... HA!
ReplyDelete@Beta-Carotene
ReplyDeletePascal's Wager...Is that a study of philosophy I detect?
Wow, it looks like Friendship Express, or at least this edition, really might turn into a collector's version.
ReplyDelete@MyBoyJ
ReplyDeleteI tried to type out a long explanation and failed miserably. So I shall refer you to the center of all knowledge:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal's_Wager
I was wondering if this issue affected others as well. I'm also a little surprised others haven't gotten their DVD yet as mine arrived the day it came out (AMAZON).
ReplyDeleteI will keep it and hope a box set comes out with no errors so I can buy that and have all the episodes together in order.
Mine came to me today via mail (fitting what day it was.)
ReplyDelete"Considering Friendship Express with the old Derpy is pretty much a collectors item at this point, you might want to consider sacrificing the first two episodes for the sake of holding on to her, or at least wait a bit."
The one I got only has Audio lag near the end of the first episode from what I noticed.
Feels kinda special knowing you have a potential collectors item.
@Leaf Growth
ReplyDeleteBut what if the box set comes with censored Derpy?
@autobotgodzilla That's why I'd keep the current DVD. Even if they change the version of the episode for a box set, I'll still have the original on Friendship Express.
ReplyDeleteSince the only issues were on the last segment of the first episode, on mine at least, I'll keep my disc as is. DVDs usually end up as background for me, so I don't pay HUGE attention when I do pop one in, at least on a video level. If I need a perfect fix, at least there's the free download of the first episode that I got off of iTunes some time back.
ReplyDeleteDerpy > audio lag
@autobotgodzilla
ReplyDeleteAll things considered, I would still buy it. The fact they came out with a box set I think would far outweigh what they were basically forced to do.
However, unless we buy enough DVD's and episodes, the chance of a box-set is nil
@Beta-Carotene
ReplyDeleteDon't underestimate the power of the buying force. The fact that Amazon still has stock is actually a tad shocking.
My copy shipped two days ago. Holding out hope that it doesn't have any issues.
ReplyDeleteIf they do end up changing future copies of the Friendship Express, I'm glad I ordered mine off Amazon with same day delivery.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna make back up copies of this and the original episode I got off iTunes.
When I release my next PMV I wanna make sure I have the original Derpy!
@mattwhite924
ReplyDeleteWow, your right. After a little digging I confirmed that the DVDs are indeed only 480. Color me amazed, as they look so much crisper than the 480 iTunes version, or rather maybe I should be disappointed in iTunes for delivering an inferior product. Oh well, they were free with my purchase of the 720 version so I really don't have much to complain about.
Anyway, my DVD has the audio glitch. Makes the tail end of e1 almost unwatchable for me. There might be a fractional desync at the tail end of e2, might only be my imagination though, either way it's watchable enough.
Probably not going to bother getting a replacement, as I mostly only got the DVD to show some support in hopes of a future full box set. Most of the time it's far more convenient to watch the copies straight off my hard drive. Though having what could become a collectors piece due to 'Derpy' drama is is nice bonus.
I got it today from Amazon direct, no issues that I could tell, and they had ample copies. I'm just up the road from the Amazon headquarters so I had a jump on it. Derpy is fine and happy again! I may have the original iTunes copy, but hard copy is just perfect for a recruitment of more brine's
ReplyDeleteDNR
Dammit dammit dammit dammit *rage over parents not let me buy anything online* but i really hope she doesn't get changed, i was planning on buying it soon :/
ReplyDeleteIt's a TRICK DON'T DO IT XD
ReplyDelete@autobotgodzilla
ReplyDeleteI do remember how fast those toys sold out...
However, I would bet the whole fallout from this Derpy incident has probably significantly reduced sales.
Heh, maybe this is how the war in Fallout Equestria got started. It's a slippery slope my friends.
:P
So, they're plotting with Nightmare Moon to use the altered Derpy.
ReplyDeleteI figured Nightmare Moon would do something to take back the throne of top baddie.
now ya see? THAT's some marketing right there. screw up all your customer's trust AND their discs so they can either lose their precious Derpy or buy more stuff, and BAM, profit. Well played, Hasbro, well played.
ReplyDelete...of course, you could ALSO just torrent everything and screw the law. but nopony's going to do that...
you cant has my derped copy.....i finaly broke down and opened it today to make sure it was a real original..and it is!
ReplyDelete@Beta-Carotene
ReplyDeleteI'm very familiar with Pascal's Wager. I meant that as a question of whether or not you studied philosophy, as I have.
I can't help but think Derpy is exactly what they were thinking about with that "no other alterations to audio" comment.
ReplyDeleteIf I had the original DVD I wouldn't give that up. That's a piece of history right there.
ReplyDelete@wackypony LOL, yup. Besides, glitches like this are definitely interesting to collectors.
ReplyDelete@MyBoyJ
ReplyDeleteOh, gottcha. No, I've taken a few philosophy classes, but that's it.
I like mathematics, but philosophy's really not my thing. Part of the reason is my mind tends to get too caught up in paradoxes. It takes a very special kind of person to handle the mental weight that comes with studies like that.
I think my favorite quote on that actually comes from Chad Fifer on HP Podcraft. When he was a kid, he asked his father if the universe is infinite.
His response was: "don't think about those things, you'll go crazy".
you cant has my derped copy.....i finaly broke down and opened it today to make sure it was a real original..and it is!
ReplyDelete@DerpGarde
ReplyDeleteI agree. Shout Factory seems to be very aware of the Brony community, and they most likely got a huge quantity of emails about the Derpy scene.
@Beta-Carotene
ReplyDeleteReduced sales? This may be our one chance to officially see our beloved unaltered mailmare. Sales will be through the roof.
@DerpGarde
ReplyDeletePfft, when was the last time a glitch produced anything interesting? I mean, it's not like an animation error would.....
......
Well...now I don't know if I'm going to order the DVD or not. I'll wait until we find out if the second wave DVD has the degraded Derpy in it. If it does, Hasbro won't get my money.
ReplyDelete@DCJoeDog
ReplyDeleteiirc, it was random Hasbro Europe e-mail PR representative that said that. Not really the most trustworthy source.
I was about to start a huge post about weighing the options on this one, as I do have an affected disc. Then I remembered I have the entire show I purchased on iTunes (which still includes my original Last Roundup video file).
ReplyDeleteThe two copies of Friendship Express sitting on my desk are only here because I felt like throwing $25 at the pony cause. Maybe I'll exchange one if the Derpy edit stays off the next wave of discs.
@autobotgodzilla
ReplyDeleteRefer to Toonicorn's comment to see what I'm talking about. I don't blame him at all.
It's a shame so much pain was caused by, what in my opinion is, one of the best episodes in the series. Even if the Derpy had never appeared, it left a huge smile on my face hours after I saw it.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what would happen if all the ones who ordered the dvds got the edited Derpy episode. Would they return it in droves? wonder if they would refund their money. Guess it depends on where you bought it?
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see what their reaction would be if second wave were recalls to redo the episode and see how many get returned :P
@Beta-Carotene
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty much the opposite. I love philosophy, and I have a good grip on it, but I'm not very good at math. Sometimes I forget that Pascal was a mathematician first and a philosopher (among other things) second.
All this uproar over a minute long seen with a side character. What will happen to this fandom if Princess Cadence sucks?
ReplyDeleteThat reply by ShoutFactory on YouTube is so coyly worded, you have no idea. "DVDs ... have corrected audio" and "no other change to the episodeS" could mean that Derpy was also censored. I'm not swapping out my DVD until I know that Derpy's scene has remained untouched on the DVD.
ReplyDelete@autobotgodzilla
ReplyDeleteminute long SCENE. I can't brain today, I have the dumb.
@MyBoyJ
ReplyDeleteI've always found it interesting that the most famous philosophers in history were also the most famous mathematicians. It makes sense. Deduction is the bread and butter of both fields.
Of course, mathematicians, philosophers; we're all professional weirdos ;)
I wasn't even going to bother getting the DVD because i have all the episodes on my computer, until i read this and thought, the DVD could very well be the only DVD with Derpy. So i got it at walmart a few minutes ago, it has derpy and the lag. but the main reason i wanted it was for derpy. but about the lag, i'll get over it because i have the episode on my computer i can watch. i'll probably never use the DVD any way. it'll just be nice to know i supported shout/hasbro and could quite possibly have a collectors item. but i would almost buy a second copy to send in and see if they change derpy, but im cheap :) so i'll wait till somepony else does!!
ReplyDeleteI can handle de-synced audio, it's a small sacrifice to pay, I have my collectors item Derpy version and I'm not going to let them muck with that.
ReplyDelete@Cardamom
ReplyDeleteYeah, call me paranoid, but after this whole Derpy incident, I don't trust Hasbro not to tell them to put in the altered scene.
I'd rather not take that risk.
Shout factory doesnt want faulty discs back you would keep both discs, Also Derpy would Not be replaced with itunes derpy. That would be too much work on shouts part. All you would get is a disc with properly synced audio in fim part 1 Seriously people stop spazzing out. Humans... Oy Vay.
ReplyDelete@Pantaro
ReplyDeleteHumph, I'm as mad as the rest of you about this. Don't go blaming it on me.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI need to purchase the dvd yet. I hope it didn't run out of the stores at target.
ReplyDeleteDamn. I just ordered it from walmart.com (under 10 bucks) I hope things are going to be ok with the dvd.
ReplyDeleteGlad I didn't waste my money
ReplyDelete@autobotgodzilla
ReplyDeleteDerpy is much more important than Cadence.
I actually have other problems with this DVD. a) in the Meet the Ponies bonus feature, they've left out Rainbow Dash. And b) the colouring of the first two episodes is off, showing much lighter than the others.
ReplyDeleteColors Are fine on mine...May just be the way your TV is set up. But yeah, the lack of a RD bio vis is annoying.
ReplyDeleteHm......I wasn't gonna bother getting the DVD, but it might be nice to pick up a Derpy Collector's edition.
ReplyDeleteAlso, has we calmed down about the Derpy thing yet? It'll be nice to go back to just blindly loving colorful ponies.
1) Buy a second copy today from a brick-and-mortar store. Presumably it should have the audio desync, and original Derpy. Don't open it, and keep the receipt.
ReplyDelete2) Return your first, opened copy to ShoutFactory. Get the replacement disk.
3) If replacement disk has original Derpy, use receipt to return second disk. Else, keep the second disk, and you still have original Derpy.
@Nightbreak
ReplyDeleteNo Dash bio? Unforgivable.
I got mine pre-ordered from Amazon back in November, and I bought a second copy off the shelf at my local Walmart. I'm not too concerned with a sync issue... I still have the entire series in 720p on my PS3. I say, for a measly $10, get a spare copy and protect your original Derpy. I don't know if they will change it or not. Who knows... I say, every original disc kept out in the market is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteAs a secondary factor, I want to maximize Shout's profits. I will NOT be taking advantage of any replacement plan, because I want to see Shout make TONS of profit on this, in hopes of them agreeing to a box set, or maybe even BluRays in the future.
It would be interesting to know if there is a way to distinguish between the desynced and the fixed version without opening the DVD case, keeping the shrink wrap etc. in tact, basically treating it as a collectors item.
ReplyDeleteOnly time will tell if the new corrected DVD will also have the PC version of "The Last Roundup"
ReplyDeleteHold on to your old copy Bronie's...
Considering how much people are willing to pay for MLP plushies and such, I'd say that holding on to a first edition DVD might not be such a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I doubt this is some kind of nefarious plot to replace the old Derpy, but stranger things have happened.
I have no problem with my disc...I watched the whole thing and I see no errors at all, But I do find the lack of the Rainbow Dash bio quite strange, But I would keep it, RD bio or not, Coz' Derpy.
ReplyDeleteIT'S A TRAP!
ReplyDelete@autobotgodzilla
ReplyDeleteFire and anarchy.
I opened the case to confirm unaltered Derpy, and that's it. Not going to risk losing that, audio issue nonwithstanding. I bought this to show my support for the original Derpy, and I stand by that.
ReplyDeleteCould this be completely legitimate? Perhaps. However I'm going to remain skeptical, and make my own DVDs from downloaded episodes if needed.
Out of curiosity, if Shout Factory does modify future copies of The Friendship Express, are they required to change the UPC as well?
ReplyDeleteSince I already bought all the eps on itunes, I will never crack open the DVD, because even if Derpy is not changed in the fixed ones, still nice to have first run.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what to say about this, the situation has gotten to a very shaky and unclear point, considering the Derpy incident.
ReplyDeleteThere HAS to be a way we can distinguish the two runs with serial numbers or something. I JUST bought a copy off AMAZON and will leave it shrink wrapped. So all I will have is serial numbers and text on the outside to go by.
ReplyDeleteNo Luna bio...
ReplyDelete"Celestia is the only pony with a unicorn's horn and pegasus wings..."
(ノ益)ノ彡┻━┻
With everyone clinging so desperately to their audio-derped copies, the corrected ones are going to wind up the rare collectibles.
ReplyDeletePS: If for some reason you DO get a replacement with Last Roundup altered, you can call that a defect and return it. Lots of returns will get noticed.
Taking into account that the first two episodes are avaliable in iTunes, with the audio perfectly fine, I'd say hold on to the DVD's and get the episodes from there.
ReplyDeleteI mean, it's not like we haven't seen the pilots over and over again, I guess we can pass without seeing them again.
Maybe to much X-files... but this feels like a conspiracy...
ReplyDeleteOk one thing guys i just got done watching the dvd and yes i did see the sync was off its not like the end of the world or anything i mean who hasnt seen the first two episode a hundred times over and so what i say deal with it and be glad there was a dvd out im not trying to sound like one of those that dont care or anything lol
ReplyDeleteI just e-mailed shout to obtain more information. if I get a responce on what's needed, I'll be e-mailing here.
ReplyDeletePeople, you don't have to send in your old DVD...you just request a new one. What the hell would Shout! Factory do with thousands of error-filled DVD's? Throw them out, of course.
ReplyDeleteYou just send 'em your proof of purchase and they send you a new DVD. No fears.
@Beta-Carotene
ReplyDeleteThere's more to video quality then if they say it's 1080p or not. Youtube's 1080p is a deinterlaced copy of a 1080i record off a cable channel. It can't possibly actually be better then the source, and thus is really 1080i they deinterlaced after the fact.
Youtube also compresses the hell out of videos, which lowers the bitrate and quality dramatically in fast changing scenes (same with audio quality). That compression was applied after the compression that was already applied to the cable signal.
The DVD version is 480p, but it's coming from the master source and has far less compression. There's many cases where a good quality 480p is better then an inferior quality 1080p.
"Oops! My bad!"
ReplyDeleteWhat if scenario:
ReplyDelete'Magic' is never made as an official word in any dictionary.
The tiny, tiny amount of people would then complain about the use of 'Magic' and the word being in the title.
Hasbro delves deep to find the darker sides of Magic and then agrees with the Minority.
Hasbro would then comply and completely get rid of the show. Just because it had 'magic' in it... and 'magic' is bad.
Companies like Hasbro never see the bigger picture in things and will go out of their way to not tread in new waters, even at the cost of offending more people than they were aware of with the changes made.
Since they said "NO OTHER CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE"
ReplyDeleteif you find out they did change your version's Derpy, you have every right to sue.
I only bought it in the hopes of encouraging a box set at some point. (Derpy's just a bonus!)
ReplyDeleteI refuse to use Itunes because of the whole "stop using Itunes and your stuff stops working" issue.
Even if I had all the episodes downloaded, I would still buy a box set, as I love this show so much.
@MachinimistLuke'
ReplyDeleteYou are making a strawman. Just let it go.
Here's hoping it's only to fix the audio problems.
ReplyDeleteTo any one who has an original DVD with audio problems. I would hold on to it ant wait to see it the new copy's contain the edited Derpy.
@Trillionage
ReplyDeleteA straw man beats giving up and shrugging it off.
Does anypony care that it was I, YoshiAngemon, who reported this error on the forums in the first place? Also, I can picture the thing being rushed by Rainbow and edited by Derpy! SOMEPONY DRAW THAT!
ReplyDeleteI find it kinda funny that the audio breaks when Pinkie is talking really fast after they surprise Twilight. I bet she has something to do with it. And I don't think you can sue because they said "only the audio has been corrected...no other changes to the episodes has been made." depends on how they define "corrected"
ReplyDelete>MFW my DVD is one of the ones with the audio defect. >_<.
ReplyDelete>Then i hear its possibly a collectors edition. 0_0
might have to buy a second copy just so the audio is correct when i watch it 9000+ times.
The "corrected" ones are all the other DVDs they printed that didn't have the issue that that small batch did.
ReplyDeleteThey're saying a few of their prints had an issue, there's no second edition coming out or anything, they're just going to send you one of their other good prints.
Not everyone received desynced DVDs, and noone is saying Derpy was changed in theirs; so therefore it's quite safe to say that all the DVDs possess the same actual content.
Also, on a side note. Derpy is in the train on the back.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to see anything about anyone needed to send in any dvds at all. I've replaced dvds with various companies before due to issues like this, and simply got a dvd in the mail.
ReplyDeleteUnneeded freak out is unneeded....
