[Adventure] [Sad]
Author: RazedRainbow
Description: In the wake of a tragedy, Scootaloo turns to a certain book series for comfort. Although not much of a reader, she hopes that she can find a brief distraction from the bitter sting of reality within the exaggerated tales of a daring pegasus and her epic quests for lost civilizations and ancient treasure. However, when she comes across a map that shows the way to the Phoenix Pool, an ocean of souls from which the dead can be retrieved, the lines between fact and fiction begin to blur. Blinded by desperation and depression, the pegasus filly sets out on a quest to a location that might not even exist, dragging her two closest friends along with her.Not All Who Wander Are Lost (New Part 13!)

sounds so good but i just cant read sad adventures. i just cant deal with the pictures my mind paints of those. its just too heartbreaking. sorry.
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming death is involved. Reading through the comments on FIMfiction, I can conclude it's Rainbow Dash that dies, yes? And I assume Scootaloo goes on this little adventure in the hopes of bringing her back? Doesn't that kind of make this more along the lines of dark/grimdark rather than just plain sad? And I REALLY wish you would disclose in the tags when established characters, ESPECIALLY the mane 6, die, because I can deal with OCs that the characters care about but I don't, but when someone like Twilight or Rainbow dies, it kills the story for me.
ReplyDeleteSorry, not reading this one, just wanted to bring up my issue with the tags
I'm ok with grimdark but I cannot deal with sad fics at all... And there are so many of them lately. Nonetheless, off to my to read folder. If I ever need therapy, RazedRainbow is going to pay the bill.
ReplyDelete@AlexReffand ya im in complete agreement with you there.
ReplyDeletesounds good to me, Im in
ReplyDeleteThis has a very interesting premise...i like the idea alot actually. :3
ReplyDeleteWill read. :)
@AlexReffand
ReplyDeleteI can't say I agree. First of all, you are assuming that when an established character dies, the story is no longer enjoyable. Which is simply not true. Need I remind you that one of the most established fictions is post-apocalyptic?
Second, the death of a character, canon or original, can be an important story element. Why would you put a spoiler like that in the tags?
On topic:
Sounds VERY interesting, and most of all, promising. Definitely reading this.
SCOOT SCOOT SCOOTALOOOOOOOO!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that was really good. I'm glad I read it. If you can handle a bit of sadness, then it's definitely worth your time; the characters are captured well and their emotions are realistic. I can't wait for the next chapter.
ReplyDeleteJust finished reading the chapter that was posted and it definitely looks like the start of something interesting. Whatever the outcome, I'm definitely looking forward to the ride.
ReplyDeleteGuys, isn't it kind of shitty to post "I'm not reading this"? And don't even get me started on posting possible spoilers without even a warning.
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to like or be interested in every fic, and I'm not discouraging criticism if you do read something and just don't like it.
But why broadcast that you're refusing to read it? It's not constructive at all and seems kind of trollish to me.
'Not all who wander are lost.' A line from a poem in Lord of the Rings (Book 1, At the Sign of the Prancing Pony)
ReplyDelete@PompeyBrony69 Why not just quote the whole thing? It's a lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteAll that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
Definitely a very intriguing story. I'll be adding this to my watch list. It manages to be both heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measure, and it captures the soul of the characters very well.

ReplyDeleteSaying you're not going to read a story can actually be useful feedback to authors. A change in the synopsis and tags can make a huge difference in how a story is received.
But I will grant this is unfair if you have irreconcilable differences with a genre or theme. People who post [Sad] stories know this limits their readership. If that's enough to turn you off, there's no particular point in commenting here.
Personally, I read [Sad] stories, but only those I deem highest-quality. Like "GrimDark", "Sad" is a subversion of the show's themes, and I insist on an epic payoff for it. This synopsis has potential in the quest of friends, and there's a strong hint it's ultimately positive.
Even so, just the suggestion that this starts with a Mane 6 character death - the cheapest of sad tropes - would have put me off without the recommendations here. I would gently suggest the community has seen way too many bad stories along these lines, for this to get a good reaction. I'm not saying major characters can't die in [Sad]. Rather, it's best for a story to earn some devotion first.
I'd also suggest that the first two paragraphs almost lost me with excessive description. "Cerulean sea" and "transcendental euphoria" are neither easily absorbed or worth the bother. Poetry is awesome when it makes novel connections. Otherwise, simple prose gets the point across with more impact.
Maybe that's being unfair, and this style of writing is just not my cup of tea. But if I had to rate the first chapter, it'd be 4-star, and that's not enough for me to keep reading [Sad].
You know, I want to read this, I really do. But I can't. Because despite how appealing this looks, I know I'll get hooked and I simply don't have the time to get addicted to a series. So take my stars based on my impressions.
ReplyDeleteI cried. I am crying as I am writing this comment, I will cry if you do not finish this, and I will cry after you do finish this.
ReplyDeleteThe last tears, althrough, will be the tears of joy.
@Gaiascope
ReplyDeleteKilling off a beloved character at the beginning has always been a way to get a cheap emotional hook in fanfiction in general, so I understand where they're coming from and don't blame them for expressing dissatisfaction. Considering how seriously some bronies connect with the characters, it can be like somebody is capitalizing on someone you consider a friend's death. And post-Apocalyptic isn't popular because of the grimdark, it's popular because it allows for the establishment of fun new rules, people, and places that weren't accessable if you followed canon. It's the same reason why some people enjoy it when humans come to Equestria.
Personally, I'm interested in this story and might start it later.
