It looks like Ponyville's Premiere Party Pony has won Google's Pwnium hacker contest, where they challenge computer guru's and script kiddies alike to find exploits in their products.
Someone going by the name of "Pinkie Pie" ripped the 4th wall of Google Chrome to shreds, setting up not one, but three zero-day vulnerabilities. Or in this case, "Escaped the Sand Box."
And a quote:
“I got lucky because I found a way [to jump out of the sandbox] very early. I figured it out by looking at it carefully,”Like you have ever had difficulties with jumping Pinkie Pie... That 60k prize was in the bag from the start!

ReplyDeletePfff... Like anyone else even had a chance. Kinda unfair to let Pinkie enter in the first place.
ReplyDelete♪ Hacking these browsers is such a cinch all you need is to find a vulnerabilla ♪
ReplyDeletehaha pinkie's so badass
ReplyDeleteNow all we have to do is ask Pinkie to break the 4th wall to bring us all into Equestria, but breaking google chrome is enough.
ReplyDelete@FlutterfanPFFFT LOL, you win.
ReplyDeleteActually he did something pretty impressive, it's not easy to bypass sandboxing. I am so jealous right now.
ReplyDeleteAs a computer geek, I must say: this is GLORIOUS!!
ReplyDeleteIt's only fitting that Pinkie Pie was the one to break Google. Not really sure how this hacking contest worked, however still impressive.
ReplyDeleteWe totally saw that coming, didn't we?
ReplyDeleteI like how they don't write with quotation marks except in the beginning. It really looks like Pinkie Pie did it then... ;)
ReplyDeleteCool, 60 large will buy a lot of cupcakes.
ReplyDeleteSecurity is a myth.
ReplyDeleteHaving the username of, "Pinkie Pie" is absolutely epic though.
All our internets now belong to Pinkie Pie.
ReplyDeleteWait, they already did.
I shouldn't even be surprised. Pinkie Pie breaks dimensions FOR FUN! Poor Google never stood a chance.
ReplyDelete*is laughing very hard*

ReplyDeleteThat's actually very clever.. you see, a "sandbox" in computer terms is an isolated area of the system set aside for running applications. The idea is, if the program crashes or attempts to do something nasty, there's no sand outside it's box, and thus any such attempts fail.
ReplyDeleteBy breaking out of Chrome's sandbox into Windows itself, this hacker effectively shattered the fourth wall between the program and the OS. Which makes the alias of Pinkie Pie VERY appropriate!
This is pretty awesome :D
ReplyDeletebRONY: 1

That is simply awesome!
ReplyDeleteAs expected of Pinkie Pie. Breaking fourth walls is just her thing.

ReplyDeletePINKIE PIE IS NOW HACKER CANNON!!!
ReplyDeleteCANNON ALL THE THINGS!!!
The username gave him the power...
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean if I name myself Rainbow Dash in a contest of speed, I'll become like Usian Bolt with a literal bolt on my ass?
Not bad for a mammal that lacks fingers, but honestly, Pinkie Pie is the type of pony every hacker should know
ReplyDeletepinkie pie is best hacker pony
ReplyDeleteAs if hacking Google wasn't enough, he did using a pony name... This proves what we have always known yet the haters refuse to accept...
ReplyDeleteBRONIES RULE!
"Pinkie Pie breaks through virtual sandbox walls"
ReplyDeleteWhat else is new?
YES! I got this on EQD!!!!
ReplyDeleteMost appropriate hacker tag ever.
ReplyDeleteFitting, as Pinkie'd say: "I can think outside of the sandbox. Can you think outside of the sandbox?"
ReplyDeleteYes, I made a cheap joke.
Oh c'mon. This has to get a reaction from Hasbro...
ReplyDeleteCome on everypony, hack hack hack

ReplyDeleteThe internet has been literally defeated by poneh
I'll bet the exploit was just an endless loop of text:
ReplyDeletechimicherryorcherrychanga?
I thought his name is Sergey Glazunov? Ha ha, that's the only article I've seen call him Pinkie Pie.
ReplyDeleteWho gives a fuck? You have number 1 no life in your shit, cocksucking, virgin, horse-shitting, penis, gay-boi crew. Fuck you all.

ReplyDeleteSomepony's gonna go buy ALL the toys now, with dat prize!
ReplyDelete@derp
ReplyDeleteNo, he doesn't. So shut your stupid ass fucking mouth, bitch.
@richfiles
ReplyDeleteThis is why you are a virgin.
Yeah... This Blethisto guy is clearly here for the sole purpose of being a meanie mc meanie pants. I'd support an IP ban, just to keep this guys venomously vile vitriol out of here.
ReplyDelete@derp
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, I'm sure its almost Blethisto's bed time
@richfiles
ReplyDeleteAnother reason you will never even see a vagina besides on your computer screen.
Lol, normally I'd ignore the kind of ignorant blatherings a few posts above, but I've never had such a large endearing smile on my face at the sight of such a stream of misdirected self-esteem issues.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting argument, but somewhat undermined, to say the least, by the fact that this activity has earned the chap in question 60k just in the present and he has comfortable job security to look forward to in the future.
Anyways, it's always nice to see skill rewarded. Props to him.
Some Brony is going to be a whole lot wealthier now. lol But it seems he does this stuff for a living, so go figure someone in that field would win such a contest. :P
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, if you're going to be breaking walls in the name of a pony, Pinkie Pie is the only true way to go.
@Blethisto

@Ivan The Adorable
ReplyDeleteWow, what a fucking cool guy. Just kidding, you're still a pathetic dumbass, who thinks every damn insult in fucking world history is because of the sender. You're a shithead, assface.
@Flutterboss
ReplyDeleteI never look, so fuck you.
I'm not halfway computer literate enough to understand what a 0day or sandbox is, so I'm just gonna take everyone else's word for it when they say that what this guy did was impressive.
ReplyDeleteAnypony else hear Pinkie Pie's voice when they read that quote from the hacker?
ReplyDeleteRe: Blethisto
ReplyDeleteSeriously people, this is basic internet savvy. Don't feed the trolls.
Wait a minute... this guy's a teenager?!
ReplyDeleteThis guy is a genious! Or maybe he is really Pinkie in disguise.
Uh-oh, it says their employer didn't authorize their participation in the contest, the Cakes are gonna be pissed.

ReplyDeleteGoogle is of the opinion that just because they made a search engine they can make software, but they cant.
ReplyDeleteCheater, using pinkie powers...
ReplyDelete@Sigma Silver Yeah, that part Seth quoted actually sounded fairly in-character.
ReplyDeleteHehe, reading an article where Pinkie Pie is constantly praised for her hacking skills is hilarious.
Well of course Pinkie Pie can hack. Is that so surprising? :P
ReplyDeleteAHAHAHAH I AM SO GOING TO SHOW THIS TO MY ANTI PONY FRIENDS! MUAHAHAHHAA Great job man!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic
ReplyDeletei like this guy...*brohoof*
ReplyDelete"You're kidding. You're kidding, right?"
ReplyDelete@Yuri "Google is of the opinion that just because they made a search engine they can make software, but they cant."
ReplyDelete1) You can find bugs everywhere. 2) If you don't keep finding them and fixing them, they are going to stay with us.
It's a good thing that bugs are being found, not a bad one.
I love how it doesn't even deserve to be called a cutie mark. XD
ReplyDelete@Myself Oops. Sorry! I think i clicked the wrong post. XD
