ReplyDeleteSeems interesting
ReplyDeleteI find myself reading a lot more one-shots over long story arcs now... hmm
I think Twilight needs a hug...
ReplyDelete@Apoljak
ReplyDeleteYou need a better hobby.
Aww, that was a good one. This fandom keeps churning out good fanfics one after the other. I've only read so many, though (mainly because I don't want to blatantly copy someone else's idea).
ReplyDeleteAh nearly crai evertim... ;_;
ReplyDeleteGreat story.
Um... how sad is this? I'm scared of dark and grimdark stories, and the synopsis doesn't really cover it well enough for me to click it..
ReplyDeleteThe bullies got off easy... a somewhat mentally-unbalanced unicorn who is massively over-powered and was instrumental in taking down two mad god types is not the kind of thing you poke with a stick.
ReplyDeleteI liked the story, and I thought the use of Cheerilee to help Twilight work through her childhood issues was a clever one. I too am generally of the opinion that Twilight's school days likely included some serious torment that led to her being withdrawn until coming to Ponyville. There are plenty of clues that being Celestia's personal student wasn't easy in the series... How upset she gets at her friends doing favors for her in hopes of scoring Gala tickets, her fears that everyone would turn on her if she revealed just how powerful she really is in "Boast Busters", her visions of demonic children laughing at her... She was put off of making friends in a pretty serious way. Magic Kindergarten must have sucked.
Ahh, just what i needed to pass the time!
ReplyDeleteAnd in the end, it's you're friends who help you come out of these sorts of (for the lack of a better word) problems.
ReplyDeleteSure would be nice to have some friends :(
You know what I'd like to see? A short grimdark fic where some asshole bullies tease Filly Twilight. By virtue of the word "grimdark", I think you can see where I'm going with this. C'monnnnnnnnnnnnn, why not. It'll be fun!
ReplyDeleteBullying A Dragon trope FTW
@Lavender Harmony
ReplyDeleteNothing horribly grim happens in the story. Spike shares a particularly mean incident from Twilight's childhood, and there are a few run-ins with the bullies in the present.
"Alternate ending"?
ReplyDeleteEither you can write a good ending or you can't... make up your mind.
Quite bittersweet myself, I do like the ending though, hints of a bit of Trollestia. And Twilight will need a huge hug.
ReplyDelete@iisaw
ReplyDeleteMore like 'Back at the Ponyville Library' type ending, just Twi's side after she sent the letter via faxdragon.
@iisaw
ReplyDeleteHey, alternate endings are cool. Most of the time. In the case of this story tho.....yeah, I didn't get why it existed.

It was an epilogue, more than an alternate ending. A short follow up that shed light on how the events of the story changed the character for the better.
That hit HARD.
ReplyDeleteOh, Celestia. You are a devious one.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to poor Twilight here. I understand what she's going through. This hit close to home.
ReplyDeleteThis was awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh man...this one REALLY hit close to home...
ReplyDeleteCrap, it felt like I was reading about myself. It was only about 2 years ago that I finally confronted my own feelings regarding the people who picked on me.
ReplyDeleteExcellent story. It's one of my favorites now.
This was deeper than I thought it would be, and it had a feel-good ending to boot.
ReplyDeleteNice work!
This story struck me personally. I found it too much familiar to me.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh.
ReplyDeleteIt's like reading a mirror.
...if mirrors could be read about...eh heh...okay, bad simile. But you get what I mean, right?
I saw pieces of myself in this fic.
torrentialCAM, I respect this balanced mix of episodic problem and real-life angst.
It was a superb emotional tug.
Excellent story. Is this what being bullied is like? My heart goes out to everypony who has been bullied in school.
ReplyDeleteThis was fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like I'm not the only one out there who can relate to this. I must say that this is honestly one of the best one-shot FIM fanfics I have read. It shows a lot of depth while still keeping everypony in character, and the lesson at the end is very beneficial to real life for anyone.
ReplyDeleteSonicStar, you're not the only one who can relate to this. Manly tears have been shed. This story brought up a lot of repressed memories.
