Turns out that Sethisto derped a bit when he told you about these awards. It turns out it's not happy about brand new Twitter accounts. More importantly, you've got to, got to, got to actually write something in your vote tweet! Don't just use the template, alter it. I mean, have you looked at what's on top? Seems kind of... not legit.
I'm really not one to care about this sort of thing, normally (neither are Seth or Cereal or our small army of interns), but my buttons have been pushed. This would be a really cool thing, and ponies like trips to New York more than condescending jerks and trolls. It's by no means mandatory, but if we win we'll work out a special event to reward you guys with. How's it sound, Scootaloo?

ReplyDeleteMake it happen, everypony!
ReplyDeleteI aproves
ReplyDeletebronies for life!
ReplyDeleteFAUST!!!!
ReplyDeleteHive approves! :)
ReplyDeletelast
ReplyDeleteWe must defeat them.
ReplyDeleteFor Ponies!
For The Royal Princesses'!
For Equestria!
If you're going to derp on a word, don't let that word be derp; dep dep dep. :S
ReplyDelete13th place, at the moment. Better be 1st by the end of tonight!
ReplyDeleteIs it me, or does Seth just seem to be full of derp right now?
ReplyDeleteAnywhom...1Direction are a crappy pop-trash band here in England. I would give my left kidney to shove it to them and their fans.
Make it so, bronies!
I voted already! But I'll vote again if I need to.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? We rose at least twenty-two places overNIGHT and we're still losing to Miley Cyrus and stuff. MAKE IT HAPPEN, BRONIES!
Can't read post. Too busy staring at Scootaloo.
ReplyDeleteMust vote again!!!
ReplyDelete@ThyPony
ReplyDeleteIt's like a metaderp. Or derpception.
Wait.
ReplyDeleteWe are BEHIND justin beaver and miley cirus?
What's this? I don't even...
Vote!
hep dep
ReplyDeleteFor Scootaloo I shall vote. Again.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this I don't even <(-_-)>
ReplyDeleteHelp me out McChicken! I mean Scootaloo.
I wish I could vote on this. I honestly do. Unfortunately Shorty awards doesn't seem to want my votes. This makes me a sad pony.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note I did indeed have a twitter account before the start of the shorty awards so its not that.
You misspelled "derp" yes it has been stated already, but the more the merrier...Kinda..
ReplyDeleteAre we really that surprised about the nominators? I mean, it's Twitter after all. I guess I will reluctantly dust off my old account to contribute, but only because EQD and ponies deserve it.
ReplyDeleteCome on, everypony! Make new Twitter accounts so you can vote!
ReplyDelete(Not really, I'm just making fun of all the people on the other post who blatantly disregarded all the comments saying that this didn't work to post a comment almost identical to this.)
Huh. Having voted in other Shorty Awards before, I never even considered that other people might have problems with it.
ReplyDeleteLe sigh.
I made a twitter account just so I could vote XD
ReplyDelete@GuerreroPerdido Actually, old accounts are no more effective than brand new ones if they're inactive. They get automatically disqualified just the same.
ReplyDeleteThey're really overly anal about this stuff. It's pretty lame.
Come on guys, let's hit em hard and fast! EqD just has to win that award!
ReplyDelete"We are BEHIND justin beaver and miley cirus?"
ReplyDelete@RavensDagger Teenyboppers own Twitter. Sad but true.
Bronies give Twitter a chance, there's a whole lot of great MLP chatting and media on there.
Plus it's hilarious to just search "My Little Pony" and hear what non-fans are saying about the show.
Oh, and if you make another vote it will just replace your previous vote. The Shorty Awards people aren't stupid, guys.
ReplyDeleteJust make a Twitter account now, write down its information for later, and if we fail to win this year we'll win by a landslide next year.
That image is too adorable.
ReplyDeleteStill won't make a twitter.
good luck EQD!
Aw, new accounts get auto-disqualified? What BS. Screw mindless social networking sites, I have Steam. That's the only social anything I'll ever use. Plus games.
ReplyDelete@RavensDagger
ReplyDeleteBronybatman says:
"It is time to be the kind of brony Scootaloo needs, not the kind that she deserves."
@Wisdom Thumbs Like I said, that won't work either. If an account isn't used regularly for things OTHER than Shorty Awards voting and such, then they get automatically disqualified just the same as a new account.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Phoe "deped" a bit making fun of Seth.
ReplyDeleteI've had an account for a while, but I still apparently can't vote because I haven't used it in a while.
ReplyDelete>:I Really? That seems rather unfair.
http://shortyawards.com/about
ReplyDelete"Several winners in the most interesting featured categories will be presented to the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences, which will review the finalists' work and decide the Shorty Award winners in those categories. These Shorty Award winners will be honored at the gala awards ceremony in New York City."
If EqD wins, then whoever goes to NYC must sing At The Gala when they get there.
Darn I just deleted the account I made yesterday
ReplyDeleteOh well I think voting in nine times "Because Rainbow Dash is greatest" didn't really woo them over
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqKFl755a5Q i voted and I made a video
ReplyDeleteI'll go out of my way to say that twitter is a really fun place to chat about ponies.
ReplyDeleteWhether you care for the Shorty awards or not it is a very sociable website to chat about anything.
Please, join twitter and be sure to watch the hashtag #twitterbronies
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Bronydan7 Yes I think it only accepts votes from inane air heads who tweet about every breath they take. Hence the current Leaders. The only other type of people it takes are really popular people who use twitter to communicate with their followers.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't we vote for Tara Strong while we're at it.
ReplyDeleteNot just because she voices Twilight, but her tweets are HILARIOUS.
Seriously? Only 500 votes? We got like 10,000 votes over on the Wikia vote. This should be easy! :P
ReplyDeleteI've had Twitter since September and e-mailed them about why they refused to count my vote even though I followed their RULES to the letter. The replied back with some LINE about ALGORITHMS and trying GAME their system. Talk about a rigged setup. I declare shenanigans.
ReplyDelete@Derek Wolff
ReplyDeleteWell I don't use twitter and none of the brony friends I have use it either. Since they auto-disqualify old and new accounts (which is utter bullshit), few people besides the twit-addicted teens that vote for shitty pop bands and other unheard of nominees can actually get their votes in. Again, bullshit. But it's Twitter, so this is to be expected.
@Derek Wolff It's only accepting votes from heavy twitter users with accounts that are several months old. On top of that you have to tweet very clearly that you like Equestrian daily with a reason why which will be viewed by any of your twitter friends and followers.
ReplyDelete@Derpy Hands Welp, it's out of my hooves then. Not a fan of this social network.
ReplyDeleteNot that we need support from a competition to show our true colors to the world anyway. We are bronies after all!
We welcome those who are skeptical with a smile and open arms. We create charities to help the sick and poor. Art. Music. Meetings. And much more. All of it inspired by a series of colorful ponies that, despite the cynical world we live in, can help us create and find happiness, and share that happiness with the world.
@Derek Wolff As has been stated, the reason for this is because there aren't an overwhelming number of bronies who already have Twitter accounts that they use actively.
ReplyDeleteThe whole situation is a sham. The truth of the matter is, Twitter is more used by the demographics who would be voting on certain other nominees than by groups like us, so even if we do technically have the numbers advantage, we're not allowed to vote. They're essentially just asking those particular fandoms whether they like their fansites better or ours. Obviously they're not going to vote for Equestria Daily.
And beyond just Equestria Daily, there are... what, a couple thousand other nominated fansites on there too? I feel sorry for a lot of them as well. This whole thing is just a complete mockery. Very poorly set up.
For what it counts, +1 vote from this pony! Although I will admit, I don't twitter very much. They should give an award on YouTube for most views of video with MLP:FIM in the tags or something. That would be a landslide.
ReplyDeleteDang, can't participate in this one. Was never a fan of Twitter.
ReplyDeleteAwwww SCOOTALOOO <3
ReplyDelete@Derpy Hands
ReplyDeleteWhy is that a sham? It's essetially rewarding people who are long time users while handicapping carpetbaggers (no offense to anyone).
It's a award for short form content (mainly Twitter) so it seems only fair that the fans who use Twitter a lot have the biggest voice in voting.
Ill say it again: There is nothing for you guys to gain on this. It's a joke website, really, votes via social medias only? What the heck?
ReplyDeleteIt can only backfire on us, honestly, this award seems like the sort of thing you do -not- want, the only fact the vote count is so low should be a dead giveaway, it really is all about finding out which fanbase has the most fanatics, and making fun of them. Leave it be, please.
Voted the other day. We should also love and tolerate our 'favorite' radio host, Ghost, (@ghostpolitics) for the radio catergory, he's down by less than a hundred and we can tip that one far easier.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I was one of those guys who created a new account just to vote.
ReplyDeleteIt was about time to get one anyways.
@TechnoTrot I agree with this, not only is Ghost extremely entertaining, but if Bronies got him a shorty it would be tasty tasty irony
ReplyDelete@Sothalic
ReplyDeleteAgree.
They only want active twitter users because those users can advertise the website and the website will make money from their sponsors. Easy as that.
ReplyDelete@Flutterfan I suppose it's only a Twitter based award in the first place, but this particular award is for best fansite. Not best Twitter account or whatever Twitter uses for these sorts of things, best non-Twitter fansite. Equestria Daily is one such fansite, and we're not allowed to vote on it.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, the reason it's a sham is because they're excluding anyone who doesn't regularly use Twitter already, and Twitter itself tends to be more commonly used by the types of people who would vote for those other things. It's TARGETED more at those types of people, actually. What with it being built into all those fancy new contraptions kids have these days, like their Androids or their Blackberries, or whatever youngsnappers are using today.
DAAAAWWWWWW
ReplyDeleteIs it considered wrong if I write that the reason I voted was because I love spamming? It doesn't feel wrong, considering the affect...
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read on the awards, we only have 2 WEEKS before the voting ends at the 17th. All of us should probably make an account, then deactivate it after the awards are over so people who don't like Twitter could stay happy. How 'bout it?
ReplyDeletei would vote for you guys - but considering how useless you've become with the actual posting of accepted PMV's, keeps me from bothering, though I'm sure you'll have no problem pulling through
ReplyDeleteReally? Deleted my comment the first time?
ReplyDelete@TechnoTrot
ReplyDeleteHa ha, oh man, we should definitely do that. I can't even begin to count the times listening to Ghost has given me a good laugh. And the irony of bronies, who he generally despises (when he's not talking about SOPA), being ultimately responsible for his award, would be so ironic.
Sorry what? Too distracted by Adoraloo.
ReplyDelete@Unknown
ReplyDeleteWell that's a pretty rude thing to say.
@ilovehotpocketsalot New accounts don't work. They're automatically disqualified. As are old accounts that aren't active enough.
ReplyDelete@Unknown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNI2EznJEMI
plus such "said Reward" I'm sure would be nowhere near me for any benefit - so which is also deemed completely useless
ReplyDeleteJoining in the... CHAAARGE!
ReplyDeleteJoining in the... CHAAARGE!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realized EQD actually goes through these comments and deletes the ones they don't like. Either that or I'm sorely mistaken about how posting these works.
ReplyDelete@Smokescrean
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it wasn't that, it was just blogger being a bitch for the upteenth time.
I hope so, because I posted my comment three times, and every time I'd refresh the page, it would be there, only to find it gone one minute later.
ReplyDeleteScreenshot of said comment: http://i.imgur.com/uED9i.png
ReplyDelete@Smokescrean
ReplyDeleteIt's happened to me before, and with comments that wouldn't offend them. It's just the website, trust me.
Well now I feel stupid; I created a Twitter account and it didn't work. I really should have listened to all of you. Good thing they're so easy to toss!
ReplyDeletewell considering the site is pretty much consisted of music, comics, stories and draw friend... there really nothing left for me here.. with comics and stories being updated 10 times a day just retarded
ReplyDelete@Unknown
ReplyDeleteThen why are you even still here?
@Jebediah Oldenheimer
ReplyDeleteI'll take your word for it, then. The TLDR is that the comment about "Ponies liking trips to New York" rubbed me the wrong way, because the purpose of the contest isn't to send the staff of Equestria Daily to New York.
@ShakeNDake lol I know how you feel. I just created an account also. A few minutes on Twitter and I'm already dumping it.
ReplyDelete@Unknown Okay, goodbye. Hope you enjoy wherever you go better.
ReplyDelete@Unknown
ReplyDeleteHEY! I KNOW YOU! YOU'RE THE PERSON WHO ON THE LAST PMV POST SAID THEY WERE NEVER COMING BAKE TO THE SITE BECAUSE YOUR VIDEO WAS ACCEPTED BUT THEN YOU NEVER SAW IT POSTED!
Welcome back...
@Smokescrean
ReplyDeleteI read it off the screenie, and I gotta say, I agree. This award thing is for twit-addicts and their interests, not us. And I can easily imagine having a brony walk up to the stage and talk about ponies would end very badly.
No, not bake, back. I was rushing in caps...
ReplyDelete@ShakeNDake
ReplyDeleteOh, so he's just butthurt? that explains it then...
@Derpy Hands
ReplyDeleteI disagree the category is simply for "best fansite". The qualifications are vague but it's understood that it's a Twitter-centric award.
"the reason it's a sham is because they're excluding anyone who doesn't regularly use Twitter already"
I don't understand this. It's a Twitter Award, why is it so unfair they're targeting Twitter users to vote?
It's like complaining US elections are unfairly geared towards US citizens and not people in Iceland.
I haven't D'aww'd harder at scootaloo since Stalkerloo fell out of the tree and broke her nose.
ReplyDeleteSpecial event, huh? Okay, I'm sure everyone is listening even more now. lol Though the one of you who gets a free trip to New York if EqD wins is the really lucky one. :P Sadly though, I'm not a big fan of Twitter and don't really use it.
ReplyDeleteI don't....I don't understand. I don't Tweet. Someone explain to me what I'm looking at here.
ReplyDelete@Flutterfan
ReplyDelete"I don't understand this. It's a Twitter Award, why is it so unfair they're targeting Twitter users to vote?"
It comes back to whether or not it's really Twitter-centric, as you say it is. It's an award ON Twitter, but it's for an outside site. The fairness of it depends on your stance on this one point, and it's just one point that we'll have to agree to disagree on.
@Derpy Hands
ReplyDeleteAdding to what I said, in response to your analogy...
From my point of view, it's more like complaining that the US elections are unfairly geared toward people in Iceland, and not US citizens.
Guys, just create an account like I did. It's quick and you'll never have to use it again if you don't want to.
ReplyDeleteHey Seth, Pin this at the top wth the oother announcements
ReplyDelete@Derpy Hands
ReplyDeleteBut we're not judging a fansite based on the contents of the actual fansite, we're judging it on the social media content produced by that fansite.
Let me explain. Let's say you have two MLP fansites. Equestria Daily and Ponyville Central. EQD has more content but does nothing on their Twitter except post links to the content on their actual website.
Meanwhile Ponyville Central doesn't have that much content on their actual website but they're very active on Twitter, posting thoughts on episodes, interacting with fans on Twitter, coming up with hashtags, retweeting fans reactions, etc.
Now then tell me which fansite is most deserving of a Shorty Award?
BTW this is the description of the award from the official site.
"The Shorty Awards honor the best of social media, recognizing the people and organizations producing real-time short form content across Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Foursquare, and the rest of the social Web."
@Flutterfan
ReplyDeleteThough I can see your point, the contest says 'social media', To use an example similar to your's: it's like having a national election, but yet only having voting in one region.
I love how other nominee's have some sort of detailed description for their purpose, and we just have "PONIES" which actually perfect
ReplyDeleteI'm okay that bronies can't 'rig' this like other polls like the naughty vs nice, scootaloo burger, best wiki and the toy polls.
ReplyDeleteBut the sad news is that Justin Bieber is beating EqD.
The Shorty Awards are rigged anyway. You are probally going to lose, even if yiu get more votes than that shitty ass band that is it number 1 right now.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.naturalnews.com/028006_Shorty_Awards_vote_fraud.html
@stringtheory
ReplyDeleteBy area, you clearly mean the Jersey Shore. It's the only reason we can't go higher on the chart, because a whole state is working against us. (Sorry for those who live there but don't match this group)
@Flutterfan "Social media" and "the rest of the social Web" could very easily apply to a massive blog site that posts/reposts tons of fan-created content and fandom-relevant news and such each day, with a massive following. The site is very much blog-style, operating on hourly or near-hourly posts that then receive comments.
ReplyDeleteJust saying. And if they're not really such a "social media" site, why even feature the site as a nominee? The only other explanation is that the competition is merely hosted on Twitter, but judges other sites based on their content.
Either way, the important thing is that we're unable to vote on Equestria Daily. We use the site, we love it, we want to support it, but we can't. Just because our Twitter accounts aren't active enough? That's silly.
I can understand the argument that "Well, if Equestria Daily was a more social media-oriented site, then you'd already have an active account to vote for them in the first place, so it evens out." But it doesn't work like that. One, no I wouldn't, I'd be a lurker. Two, the real statement there is "Well if Equestria Daily was more active on Twitter..." They're already plenty social enough on their own, but the awards are exclusive of anyone not specifically on Twitter. Furthermore, that quote you pasted said that it recognizes people from across Twitter, FACEBOOK, TUMBLR, YOUTUBE, FOURSQUARE, AND THE REST OF THE SOCIAL WEB. Not speaking in caps lock to be "shouting" there, but rather to draw your attention to all the things they mentioned, yet are not allowed to vote. There are TONS of bronies on sites like Tumblr and YouTube, but none of them can vote because the competition is Twitter only.
I really don't like how I'm required to have a Twitter account to vote. I don't have a Twitter, nor do I want one. I would love to vote, but I'm just unable to :/
ReplyDeleteAs for the 1directioners guy on top right now:
ReplyDelete"Q: tea, coffee or hot chocolate ??"
asked by Love1Dxox
"A:
anything except coffee"
I don't like him.
I LOVE EQD!!!
ReplyDeleteNO! NOOOO!
ReplyDeleteAT LEAST let us beat Justin Bieber! PLEASE!
Guys. Look at the reasons for nominating 1directioner, the group that's in first. They spam like heck and their votes still count. In fact, I saw 10, yes 10, STRAIGHT Twitter posts with Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V everywhere on their reasoning behind voting for 1directioner. I'm not justifying doing that, but yeah. If you guys spam voted like they did, it should work.
ReplyDelete@Mightyputty Whoops. I meant the other ones on the top 10. Musta mistaken it for the one in first. But trust me, the others did a lotta spamming and some of them didn't even put a reason.
ReplyDelete@Derpy Hands
ReplyDelete"Social media" and "the rest of the social Web" could very easily apply to a massive blog site that posts/reposts tons of fan-created content and fandom-relevant news and such each day"
If this was a vague defintion of "social media" website I would agree but this award is specific.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shorty_Awards
an awards event that honors top short-form content creators on the micro-blogging website Twitter.
And if they're not really such a "social media" site, why even feature the site as a nominee?
Because anyone can be nominated as long as they're on Twitter. Fans do the nominating not the Awards people.
Either way, the important thing is that we're unable to vote on Equestria Daily. We use the site, we love it, we want to support it, but we can't. Just because our Twitter accounts aren't active enough? That's silly."
Let's say EQD was holding a "Best Brony fanartist" vote, essentially a popularity contest. Let's suppose Justin Bieber entered this contest. Now Justin Bieber's fanart sucks and no Brony votes for him but all of a sudden a swarm of Justin Bieber fans (who don't give a **** about MLP) sign on to EQD and vote him as the best Brony fanartist and their sheer numbers gives him the most votes.
Now facing this injustice would you blame Seth for instituting a "you had to been a commenter for at least a week before you can vote in this poll" policy?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletei am just going to post this...
ReplyDeleteSure, we have a great fandom. sure, we can get tossed in a froth over contests that we are included in.
but do we really need to have this one award?
I know we are a fansite and it is nice that we could win an award for it, but this contest seems to be rather dirty from the start. dirty as do we really want to be associated with having this award? the contest started over a month ago and we just now got considered to be a fansite? It is okay that we can try to win this, but we should do it legitimately as possible.
i don't know, that is just my two cents on the subject
There should be more votes up there for EQD, we need to get every single brony to charge in there and vote <.<
ReplyDelete@Silverness
ReplyDeleteWe would if we had active twitter accounts
plus, I think we're doing pretty well considering how few bronies use twitter
Wow thats really unfair.
ReplyDeleteYou have to make and actively use there website to vote on a awards hosted by them -.-
Derped that
ReplyDeleteWow thats really unfair.
You have to make and actively use there website to vote on a awards event thing not hosted by them
-.-
well that counts me out.
@Vulcan539
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, it counts out everyone else as well. But I think that we should probably let this one go. Sorry all the blog ponies, we would like to send one of you to NYC, it's a great place, but Twitter sucks and the shorty awards twitter filter screwed us over.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI'd totally help if I wanted to bother with a Twitter.
ReplyDeleteDONE AND DONE.
ReplyDeleteMost of us don't use twitter. Personally I see it as rather pointless and since my vote won't be counted if I just make an account now there's not a whole lot of point.
ReplyDeleteThe highest one at the moment has ten times the number of votes as EqD at the moment and most of those seem to be One Direction fansites. Eew.
God dammit, that's the most manipulative Scootaloo pic eve-
ReplyDeleteThose eyes.
Alright alright, I'll vote. Because Scootaloo.
So in order to have a vote that will work is to have a twitter account older than a month? Makes me glad i use one time to time.
ReplyDeleteAs much as i would love to see ponies winning by a fair and legit way of voting for a change sadly my vote goes to Zack Ryder.
@Tenaris I wouldn't accept mine and I use mine on a infrequent basis to actually tweet but use it as a glorified RSS feed all the time to receive updates for sites like EQD and popular people I'm interested in.
ReplyDelete@Nintyuk *IT Wouldn't accept mine
ReplyDelete@Nintyuk Now that is something to think about, i don't really have an answer for that. Now the only thing i can think of is maybe the reason why you're vote wouldn't get accepted is because of a majority of the votes received from the amount of new twitters made just for the voting for EqD are being rejected and maybe yours was rejected by mistake.
ReplyDeleteAside from that i haven't really got a clue
ReplyDeleteI would help out, but I do not have twitter, and I am not getting it. My email already got borked from facebook, I am not messing with this social networking crap.
ReplyDelete
