Bronies for Good has been hard at work in the garden, tending to the seeds planted by one of the greatest communities on the internet. Soon, those seeds will sprout, and grow into even more amazing things than we've seen before. I urge you to visit their website and find out what's going on.
Project: Seeds of Kindness is Bronies for Good's latest charity drive, which is seeking to fund a clinic in Uganda and a green village in Burundi. What this means is that the money we'll be donating will help put together a self sustaining source of medical care for people who desperately need it, and a place where children can grow up and learn to provide for themselves without having to resort to crime. I would call these very very worthy goals, how about you?
With the actual charity still a few weeks away, BfG is looking for help to develop an incentive package that will help this drive match Smile! in success and scope (and remember, Smile! earned 26,000 dollars to help kids with cancer). If you're a musician, hit up My Little Remix and join in on the fun of creating a new album. If you're an artist, get those pens to paper (or tablet!) and make some wonderful images to show people what a great job they're doing. If you've got a spare game or an idea or anything at all to help out, I implore you to visit the link above and get into contact with these people. It's going to be worth your time, I promise.

ReplyDelete@m90n
ReplyDeletedamn, but brony charities. interesting.
hi
ReplyDeleteYay charity and kindness that's were about... Also ponies!
ReplyDeleteYes I love Brony charities! Helping others is always a good thing! I love our fandom!
ReplyDeleteOh Shoot I could of been first but then I had to enter in my password and stuff!!!!
ReplyDeleteCool idea. Will those children be tought the magic of friendship? Stupid jokes aside this is really commendable!
ReplyDelete@myself that's what we're about get it right!
ReplyDeleteIf only I had "dollars"... all I have are bits
ReplyDeleteAnother nice charity project; let us raise some money, bronies!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love how I don't even need to look at the 'posted by' tag to recognize when Phoe is posting. Never change the way you write, Phoe.
What did AchoZen say that was so bad?
ReplyDeleteI hate not being good at music, art, or programming. =(
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me how much good can come from a television series. It may be for children, but I think it's safe to say that it's improving the lives of kids and adults. It's certainly made my life better. Now we have a chance to make someone else's life better, and I'm going to jump at that chance. I don't really have enough talent to contribute any art or anything, but I'll be more than happy to give once they start accepting donations. And I hope you all are too.
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely donate to this, and I did donate to Smile!, but I only have $43 left.
ReplyDelete@Knight Derpy
ReplyDeleteThen open up your wallet and plunk a few dollars to the cause when the time comes for it. If you don't have any money, then just spread the word. You don't have to be super talented to help out...
+1 to faith in humanity. Good on these sirs.
ReplyDeleteI want to donate
ReplyDeleteIt makes the Don sad that he cannot help...at least with bits, but he can at least attempt to spread the good word no?
ReplyDelete@Phoe
ReplyDeleteHeh, I can spread the word in 10 seconds flat
@Phoe Well, dang, I can do that!
ReplyDelete@Phoe
ReplyDeleteExcellent point Phoe, I'll try and donate when I get the chance since my "art" would probably not help much. Though I hear on "teh internetz" stick figures are very popular.
@Phoe You can bet I'll be chipping in some money when the time comes.
ReplyDeleteNeato~
ReplyDelete@Rainbow Dash
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm new to this internet currency thing, but can you not just cash in your bits for dollars?
...what do you even use bits for anyway?
It's things like Bronies for Good that revive my faith in this community.
ReplyDeleteDoing real good, in the real world.
ReplyDeletewhere is it I can donate directly?
ReplyDeleteBut alas, I have no artistic talent, abilities, or skills. Just show me where to throw the money instead.
ReplyDelete@Knight Derpy
ReplyDeleteWait, where did you see a programming request? That's kinda my thing.
Hey Everyone,
ReplyDeleteAs a member of BfG, I just want to say that the support we receive from amazing folks like Phoe, Telofy, and community members like you guys is what really keeps us afloat. All of you, even those that show your support, donate, or provide incentives are an essential component to our past, current, and hopefully future success. You all are amazing and we just want to say thank you, and all the love in world, from the very bottom of our hearts. Stay awesome bronies!
Love and Solidarity,
A Passionate BfG member
Le sigh-Me no have special talents :/(Ill spread this though)
ReplyDeleteDude bronys are the best /)
ReplyDeleteThis is why this community is awsome its always so kind
ReplyDeleteIf only I could turn hilarious PMVs into money somehow. I can't actually make things myself, I just slap pre-made stuff together in novel ways.
ReplyDeleteCharity is nice and all, but I question its effectiveness these days. I've seen too many things like this:

The Brony community should make Kiva accounts instead. I trust the cost-effectiveness of Kiva.
@Mike
ReplyDeleteOh, and then there's this wonderful satire:

Charity reveals the true nature of Bronies and the messages the show gives to us
ReplyDeleteThanks, everypony, for your comments and support!
ReplyDelete@Mike
The two projects that are the beneficiaries of the fundraiser are projects selected by the nonprofit Your Siblings (I’m the second chair). You can find more information on our strategy in the FAQ on our website.
When Lisa Wiese founded Your Siblings, she was acutely aware of such problems as Engineers Without Borders encountered, and avoiding them from the outset was crucial.
Several of the central tenets of our work are to ensure that the projects we support are in no way dependent on outside help (e.g., outside maintenance) after the initial financial impetus we provide. They need to present a proposal how they can be completely self-sustainable in the long-term, and need to be run by locals, not by foreign organizations or volunteers.
There are also detailed descriptions of the clinic and the Green Village on our website.
Alrighty then. Now to see if I can put together a track in under two weeks. History is against me... :\
ReplyDeleteFry: ):< Shut up and take my money! PLEASE!
ReplyDelete@Telofy
ReplyDeleteOh! Looks like I was gravely mistaken. These programs look excellently organized and well thought-out!
Perhaps I will donate to this cause after all. Glad to know sustainability and other factors are considered.
...However, couldn't political turmoil in Burundi potentially interfere with the execution of the Green Village plan?
@Mike
ReplyDeleteThank you. Unfortunately, political turmoil (and civil war in particular) is a major reason why so many children have lost their parents and are in need of such projects as the Green Village. The village itself is located in the province of Gitega but 7.5 miles outside the eponymous city (where the organization Green Life is based), which should, at least geographically, take it well outside any firing line. In the current political situation, however, I think the primary challenge is to rebuild the country.
