Brief Mention of MLP In Recent Lauren Faust Interview
Over on io9, they did a short Lauren Faust about some of her upcoming projects. Deep within, there was a small blurb about My Little Pony. Check out the website here, and the blurb below!
When Faust was creating My Little Pony, she originally wanted it to have more of an adventure-based tone — and she's excited to be able to feature more of that tone here. "You get to have fighting in a superhero show," she notes. "There's absolutely no fighting in My Little Pony." She wasn't really upset or disappointed that the action-adventure aspects were downplayed in MLP — it's more like, the project evolved as she collaborated on it — she's glad to be doing more of that here. SBFF will feature "a little more adventure, a little more action, higher stakes [and] higher emotions... but still the same humor and the same heart."
Sounds like she wanted a bit more adventure in our pony stuff. I wouldn't mind her taking the helm on a side project. Get on it Hasbro!

ReplyDeletealso, I want a juice box too!
Neat!
ReplyDeleteFaust wanted more action in MLP and so did we!
ReplyDeleteI never resd the news... But whayever, it's like four in the morning. Nothin better to do.

ReplyDeleteTwilight Book...... why so misleading XD
ReplyDeleteStill better than Twilight
As for the SoCal Brony convention: Best of luck on that! Hope all goes as planned...
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the music post with the two covers?!? Why was it deleted? It had MandoPony in it!
ReplyDeleteThis roundup made me notice something.
ReplyDeleteMost songs in MLP get remixed to hell, but Smile doesn't.
My theory is that it is so good that people are afraid of making their remix sound worse than the original.
Spelt Los Angeles wrong :p
ReplyDelete"Absolutely no fighting in MLP" you say?
ReplyDeleteFall Weather Friends @ 19:45 would like to say otherwise...
@ Lupon-See also: Lesson Zero
ReplyDelete"Absolutely no fighting in MLP"
ReplyDeleteI disagree is season 1 (but she was producer then), though I have noticed very little fighting in season 2 (episodes 1&2 don't count as Faust was heavily involved)
I wouldn't mind seeing another adventure episode again, perhaps a another trip into the everfree forest, a place that has never been properly explained.
Although I wish Faust had gotten her wish, I can't say the show suffers from a lack of violence, though more epic episodes similar to the two-parters and dragonshy would be nice. Also if you haven't watched the CR review definitely check it out, he brings up some excellent points and is overall a pretty funny reviewer. I think he eventually plans to review all the episodes but he needs more support and viewers, so go forth bony legion!
ReplyDeleteReally Seth you kind of overreact to trees. We need to get you out of... Arizona? I know its some place on PST.
ReplyDeletePfft. Orange and apple juice is where it's at, Seth.
ReplyDeleteIt's not exactly a secret Lauren wanted a little more action and adventure in the show. She was working on it being more dynamic than most modern show's for younger audiences. Though it may not have achieved quite the height she was hoping for it to. I think it's still edgier and more fun than most of course. :)
Ah, Smile. I love that song so much. It's just so happy and fun. To sing too. It's my favorite song so far.
That Twilight book is awesome! I can't decide if I'm happy that the bids have already climbed really high so people obviously appreciate it... or sad that it's out of my own price range :(
ReplyDelete"We had to cut out the scary action."
ReplyDelete*cue scene with terrifying giant spiders and blood-curdling screaming*
They never announce when a meetup is close to where I live....
ReplyDeleteOooo nice shoes, also yay pinkie pie sing along, this maybe just the thing our meet-up needs ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the spotlight for our forum ^_^
ReplyDeleteHmm i wonder if the will be a dress code for the grand galloping gala
ReplyDeleteYipee! Our So Cal brony con finally got some legs! ^_^. And it will continue to grow with your nourishment (hint hint).
ReplyDeleteHave to say I liked the name BronyLAnd better. This person didn't know, but I'll be fine if we stick w/ Equestria LA.
@Peanut Crunch
ReplyDeleteAre you the organizer for it or something?
Silly Seth, that's not how you spell apple juice.
ReplyDelete@wloff
ReplyDeleteSeriously. It's at $200! O_o
Concord is best grape.
ReplyDeleteThat Vanacast thing annoys me because every time I see it, for about 2 seconds, I think it has something to do with FFXI... and then I remember that it doesn't
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum You could set up it yourself although I don't know where you are at so there may not be many Bronys where you are at. You might want to check Rainbowdash.net for fellow Bronys nearby.
ReplyDelete@bombedrumbum. You could say that. There's a core of people currently discussing it, and I'd be one. More than anything, as the guy who runs the So Cal Brony Bulletin Board, I'd most likely fall under publicity. Still, there's certainly higher folks up the ladder.
ReplyDeleteWait, you said "the" organizer. No way! XP. I'm a member of the team, but by no means the head. Don't think I'm trying to puff-up my position or anything.
ReplyDeleteOkau
ReplyDelete*okay
ReplyDelete"CR Review of Mysterious Mare Do Well"
ReplyDeleteAs I was watching this, I quickly realized it was more of the same tired, 3-month old ranting on this dead horse of a topic, interspersed with completely irrelevant comparisons to unrelated franchises. If you're going to come to the table with a critical review of content that is this old and this widely discussed already, you had *BETTER* bring something new and relevant with you. Explaining that Batman and My Little Pony aren't the same thing might be new to the discussion, but that's because it's completely irrelevant!
Of course, it doesn't help that I disagree on a fundamental level with the review in the first place; but come ON. There have been *many* reviews of film, TV, music and literature that I've disagreed with but still respect as well thought out and well presented opinions. This was not. This was a rant on a topic that has already been ranted to death.
If you haven't already watched it, save yourself the 10 minutes. If you dislike the episode because of the way the other main characters treated Rainbow, then watching this review will serve only to re-ignite your frustration without offering any resolution. If you *disagree* with that opinion, this review only serves to reignite *that* frustration. In short, there is no good reason whatsoever for this review to even exist.
Ummm . . . to end on a positive note. . . let's see. . . Trixie with a juice box is adorable? Oh, and grape juice is *quite* tasty.
@Peanut Crunch i'll see about it
ReplyDeleteGalacon in Stuttgart. That better be worth the 300km trip!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Faust on this one.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like what she initially wanted to do with the show was have more episodes like DragonShy.
And come to think of it, in Season 2 we haven't gotten so much as a single episode of that adventurous type. Well, if you discount the Discord episodes, but even so those almost feel like Season 1 concepts pushed into the premire of S2, but from there the show hasn't had much like DragonShy, aside from maybe Spikezilla.
As much as I love Friendship Is Magic though, and as much as I don't have a lot of fondness for earlier MLP incarnations, truth be told, MLP G1, especially the original pilot feature, had a LOT of action, and epic fantasy in it.
If there's any aspect of FiM that I wish borrowed more from the past, it would be some of the epic fantasy and conflict that took place in the first original animated series.
I mean, G1 had a lot of fantasy and epic action, but it's characterization and writing was typical 80's cartoon cliched, generic garbage... something that FiM has improved upon tenfold.
If I see a combination of the awesome character development, characterization and strong writing from FiM, mixed with the epic fantasy badassness of MLP G1, it would be like both of the franchises strong suits meeting in the middle, and I would love that.
Perhaps that is what Laruen had in mind, and as much as I adore this show now, I wouldn't mind seeing something closer to her initial pitch, too.
By the way...
ReplyDeleteRegarding CR's review of Mare-Do-Well....
Y'know what? I really liked Mare-Do-Well as an episode. A lot. And I was even really annoyed by how people were reacting to it.
As much as I think CR's review was overreacting with the score in general.... I must say that for the first time, the criticism against this episode made SENSE to me.
Before that review, the bashing of the episode, to me, just looked like a bunch of bronies being a bunch of unpleasable, nitpicking, dicks letting their gut feelings of characters they already hate cloud their perceptions and just whining about things for the sake of it....
....but after seeing the review, I actually finally see a lot of real legitimate and coherent complaints about the episode, and I found myself begrudgingly agreeing with him at first, and by the end, had to eventually admit to myself that he was almost entirely right on, and that I barely had that much of an argument in defense of the episode, anymore.
I feel he finally summed up the feelings and complaints that a lot of the episode's detractors had, but crystallized them into much better points, and made a lot more sense to me, this time.
Yeah, the Other Main 5 were being total hypocrites, they did become much worse than Dash, and in the end, they really did come off as pricks who just wanted to make Dash feel like shit. But what really got me was CR's proposed idea on how the episode COULD have gone, and how it SHOULD have been a learning experence for EVERYONE, not just Dash.
I'm always a fan of when people can back up their complaints of what they would have done differently, and then use that in my own opinion to gauge whether or not what they would do is a better idea than what happened, and I must say that CR's proposal really did sort of convince me to change my mind, and realize the episode really was as unbalanced as he said it was.
I think he did a great job with the review, to at the very least, finally take the fan complaints and put them into a nutshell, well-reasoned, more clearly understandable positioned backed up with an intelligent look at it.
The only thing I didn't like about the review was the eventual score of 1 out of 6, because I feel the episode deserves at least a medicore 3 out of 6.
Huh, European MLP Con? In germany? DO WANT!!!
ReplyDeleteI will /never/ watch CR's review. mare do well is a good freaking episode and i am sick and tired of the hate it gets. and at this point, bitching about the episode is kicking a major dead horse.
ReplyDelete...pun intended.
An European convention... ON MY BIRTHDAY?!
ReplyDeleteI live about 30 minutes from the german border so count me in!
CR reviews The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well! WATCH IT OR DIE!!!
ReplyDeleteThats apple juice not grape
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for Lauren Faust's new show
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed CR's review, even though I don't dislike Mare-Do-Well.
ReplyDeleteHe makes good, well-explained arguments, and actually says in the end that even though he hates the episode, it's one of his favorites because of the discussion and feelings it created.
That said, @Rekiara - I think CR simply wanted to do a negative review and Mare-Do-Well just is the episode for him to do it of.
Honestly, I think it speaks volumes of the quality of the show that out of all the episodes, there is *one* people can legitimately claim to dislike.
South Florida Bronies, make a Facebook group so I can join it, dangit!
ReplyDeleteTrust me, you'll have more than 9 members if you make a facebook group. The Central Florida group has close to 300 now.
Need to have an LA brony convention
ReplyDeleteThank you for the Karaoke Smile Smile Smile vid! I used it to correct a slew of errors in what I thought I could hear, some of which made no sense. After corrections, I disagree on only two words in JameslJaames' karaoke version. Now I have to unlearn my mistakes.
ReplyDelete...why was I not informed of the Oahu meet up, that would have been fun
ReplyDelete@Sarda
ReplyDeleteYou're not the only one that that gets to. First thing I think of when I see that name is FFXI and my epic Dragoon and Blue Mage character.
Curses.
ReplyDelete...
I live on the wrong island.
@NightStarX
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it better myself. Mare Do Well was a bit of an odd episode for me - I felt the lesson in retaining modesty in one's own achievements for Dash was sorely needed (and hell, Dash is one of my favourite characters!), but the lesson was horribly executed for the reasons CR gave, and in the end, it felt invalidated because the Mane 5 sank to Dash's level to teach her a lesson. Not to mention the out-of-character actions of, well, all of the Mane 6 in that episode.
I suppose it can be explained away as a new writer still coming to grips with the characters, and therefore going completely overboard with Dash's ego, and bending the other characters into that really rather spiteful plan. However, this hopefully won't be a problem in future, considering the same writer was responsible for Hearth's Warming Eve, which was much better.
When I first finished watching Mare Do Well, I merely disliked it. The constant bitching about the episode has managed to turn that feeling into outright loathing.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a pan-European convention? I wonder how many people will show up, especially non-Germans.
@9Kbits
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCEscoggvsk&feature=player_embedded
you jinxed it so theres a remix i found yesterday
mare do well haters are insane. no one is OOC, and no one should think too hard about my little pony. the show is quite simply, so i don't treat it like its meant to be analyzed and shit.
ReplyDeleteLos Angeles convention? Now that's what I'm talking about! "Los Angeles" come on now, it's one of the largest cities in the US, can't go around spelling it incorrectly.
ReplyDeleteMakes me wonder if faust is interested in Fighting is Magic :D
ReplyDeleteAnd as far as I'm concerned, almost every time that had an actual threat in the show aside from NMM and Discord, there was a good deal of fighting.
I'm pretty sure they fought the hydra and one of the 6 attacked the dragon in dragonshy.
I'm not sure how much fluttershy's "massage" for Harry counts...
@NightStarX
ReplyDeleteYeah, as much as I like season 2 and feel it's an improvement overall it could definitely use a Dragonshy style episode or two.
Stuttgart? Like, a town with a direct train connection to mz town? This better be good.
ReplyDeleteI loved that Mysterious Mare Do Well review. CR brings up some great points. Go watch it everypony!
ReplyDeleteEquestria LA? I think I am in heaven.. <3
ReplyDeleteHey! E.Q. is actually using my juicebox picture. :)
ReplyDeleteTo bad I decided to stop my blog.. I accomplished my goal of making flutterjuice a popular meme... I can die happy now.
I forgot about the Oahu meetup :(
ReplyDeleteHopefully I'll remember the next one...
Thank you, Sethisto and everyone else at Equestria Daily, for promoting Bronies of South Florida! Our membership has more than tripled today!
ReplyDelete@Wollffeey
ReplyDeleteThank you for the feedback. There was a Facebook group for a while... "University of Miami/Miami Area Bronies" I think was the name. I didn't create it, but I was a member. It didn't have much activity, and it looks like it no longer exists. :(
At 23 members on its fifth day of operation, Bronies of South Florida already has more members than the South Florida Facebook group did. Still, I won't rule out having a Facebook group too. Thanks again.
@Wollffeey: you asked for a Facebook group? You got a Facebook group. Bronies of South Florida! See you there!
