The term "Shorts" bothers me. If it was just "Lauren Faust doing new Supergirl show" I'd be ecstatic but considering it's suppose to be "shorts" and the title is "Super Best Friends Forever." I'm imaginging it as a bunch of silly shorts with little substances. Hopefully I'm wrong.
I do think the character design for that Supergirl is GORGEOUS. I remember hating how the Supergirl in Superman the Animated Series looked.
Lauren is great at drawing incredibly cute characters.
I'm getting the weirdest deja vu, but i am indeed (have been) looking forward to this! I think it is just going to be shorts, but it still looks like a lot of fun.
DC exec: C'mon, lemme hear you say it, just once. TV exec: Lauren Faust is going to run the Supergirl franchise. DC exec: Ha, ha, no, no, not that, no, the other thing. TV exec: Supergirl is beating Superman in the rat-- DC exec: WROOOOOOOOOOOOONG!
I've been waiting for this one for quite a while, though it's honestly for the Teen Titans shorts more than anything else. Still, willing to give the Supergirl shorts a try as well. Everything she and her husband have touched so far has turned to gold so I wouldn't be surprised if I end up liking this as well.
Also, thanks to the time change in a few weeks, I can see both DC Nation and MLP back to back. yay!
QUESTION When the new Lauren show debuts, will equestria daily start following it, too, or will you all start up a sister site? Or, I guess, just let someone else do that? I'm curious.
One thing about post-pony Flash stuff is, you can count on technically being able to animate the characters more expressively now. It's all in what you do with it, of course, but the capacity exists.
That aside, how do you measure the FiM phenomenon against everything else you do? Can it be done? The fickle world that is art, affected by so many bodies and ideas AND shortcut budget measures: is there any way to combat and succeed against this gargantuan uprising?? Really. Little horses with softly applied real world issues versus anything else creatively? Is the internet ready??
The news on Lauren being involved in a series of DC shorts isn't new news for many people, but the fact that she revealed a sketch to her fans on dA is new. I'll be watching for those shorts.
By the sound of it, we might actually get a decent show on Cartoon Network! After they replaced good shows like Chowder with crap like Regular Show (stupid), Adventure Time (too random and gangster), and Sidekicks (stupid), I'd lost faith in Cartoon Network. But, if Lauren Faust is going to add stuff to it, maybe there's hope for it, after all.
I'm sure Faust will do a fine job with Supergirl, but I kind of hope she gets to do her Galaxy Girls project at some point. You'd think some producer would give her a shot at doing her own thing now.
This is going to be good; since Lauren Faust made good things happen with MLP:FIM - I would love to see her upcoming work, even if superhero themes are not my thing at all. Count me in on watching these.
Well, Faust managed to shift MLP from girly-gay to cool and smart and if she menages to undo the damage the Supergirl movie made - she will be forever rememberd as The Franchise Reanimator.
I don't get it. Why she abandoned great Ponies ....for THIS? I thought the only problem was she didn't have time for MLP: FIM but now I see the lack of time isn't the real problem. I'd prefer her to get back to MLP instead. No supergirl is ever gonna compare to Rainbow Dash!
I think the ultimate reason she left the show is twofold;
1. She had creative differences with Hasbro. They gave her some great leeway when making the show, but they restricted her in a lot of ways, ie making Celestia a princess instead of a Queen, making the show less dark (just look at the G1 villains) As she has also pointed out they stopped her from using character names and looks she wanted originally like using firefly her favorite pony. I think she ultimatly got frustrated and left to pursue other projects, though she left the show in excellent hands before she went.
2. She wanted to pursue her goal of getting Galaxy Girls made into a cartoon series. I think "Super Best Friends Forever" is just another step on that long road to getting enough recognition and support that she can make her dream a reality.
For that reason I'll watch whatever she makes since she blessed us with MLP: FiM, the least we can do in return is watch her stuff and buy her merchandise so she can make Galaxy Girls a reality!
/waaay to long of a post, sorry bit of a ramble there :p .
basically this will be what happens when the powerpuff girls grow up and attend comic book conventions dressed as other heroes... Bubbles looks good as supergirl lol.
T-teen...Titans..shorts? O-Original cast? Not the shitty new one? If so, YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES I'MWATCHINGTHISSHOWNOW.FUCKALLTHERULESTHATFORBIDME.
@Flutterfan It could be one of those instances where short premier videos are shown kind of like how Powerpuff Girls, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and Courage the Cowardly Dog got started.
Even though I tend to like Batgirl, the one thing about her and many of the other female DC superheroes is that they tend to feel "sidekickish." Aside from Wonder Woman, many of the prominent superheroines derive their motifs from male superheroes.
As a result, Batgirl feels like she's ultimately meant to be a sidekick of Batman. Similarly, Supergirl feels like she's menat to be a sidekick of Superman. I realize that when many of these characters were first created, it was probably necessary to do this in order for the audience to accept the characters. Still, the characters are still saddled with this history.
Power Girl, though her common character design can be seen as "fanservicy," at least tries to be distant from from Superman. Though in her original story she's Superman's cousin, she purposefully avoids using the word "super" to differentiate herself. (I'm not sure if they rebooted her origin story AGAIN with New 52).
I'm interested in how Lauren's take on the DC Universe will handle this. I'm sure it will be a good show, regardless.
Lauren Faust has earned my respect with what she's done to My Little Pony. Making the lot of us into fans of a series that, a mere few years ago, we would have turned our noses at (and that's putting it mildly). I shall most assuredly give this new project of hers a look!
@Bronyhub I don't think that was the case for Lauren Faust to suddenly leave. Note that it was her first solo project to do MLP:FiM, she was literally stressing out due to the pacing of the production...staying up sometimes to finish up those tasks (and the unrelated fact that she's going to have a baby soon). 26 twenty-two minute animated episodes? That's unheard of these days! Shows would pull that off if there was a special, but not this show. Heck, the show is already doing 2-parters as well.
t says this will also feature Batgirl (Babs Gordon, no doubt. sigh.....Stephanie, come back!) and Wonder Girl. I wonder what Wonder Girl? Donna? Cassandra? I'd be cool with either.

ReplyDelete@JordanRynes It was but I think it was unclear what'd she'd be doing until now. This is the first preview pic we've seen.
ReplyDeleteSilly PK, Lauren Faust is a human, not a pony.
ReplyDeleteBut eh? Superheroes? On DC Nation?
Not sure if want.
But we already knew Faust is best pony

ReplyDeleteI'll only watch if it's new 52 Supergirl.
ReplyDeleteNeato! Good for Faust!
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping that this helps you get some people interested in Galaxy Girls.
Well might be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting the weirdest deja vu, but i am indeed (have been) looking forward to this! I think it is just going to be shorts, but it still looks like a lot of fun.

ReplyDeleteThis has the potential to be supremely awesome.

Or, I guess, just let someone else do that?
I'm curious.
Hate to break it to you PK, but it sure is cOLD in here.
ReplyDeleteI think TV networks are pretty much having deathmatches over publishing rights of anything Lauren Faust does now
ReplyDeleteNon pony project? Nah, it doesn't confirms anything.
ReplyDeleteBesides, Tara Strong is best pony.
Can't wait to see this!
ReplyDeleteIs there ANYTHING Lauren Faust can touch without it turning into complete awesomeness? O_o;
ReplyDelete...
Okay, never mind. Dumb question.
This could be interesting. I don't recall Supergirl ever getting that good of treatment.
ReplyDeleteThat's the ugliest pony I've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteNot interested following her And what she's doing next and leaving ponies behind. Then I guess it's time to change pony designs back to G1
ReplyDeleteThat's really super, Supergirl...
ReplyDeleteOne thing about post-pony Flash stuff is, you can count on technically being able to animate the characters more expressively now. It's all in what you do with it, of course, but the capacity exists.

ReplyDeleteMy super dream nerd fantasy is a team up of Genndy Tartakovsky and Lauren Faust on an adaptation of Justice League International.
ReplyDeleteOld news is old
ReplyDeleteYeah I knew this for a long time now, I still hope that Power Girl shows up! :3
ReplyDeleteIs Batgirl going to be voiced by Tara Strong again?
ReplyDelete'Cause that would be friggin' awesome.
@Valoreins
ReplyDeleteActually, that's a style used with Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab. They're 'flatter' than what's used in MLP.
YES YES YES YES YES YES!
ReplyDeleteLittle interest, but it might turn out good. We're talking of Lauren Faust, after all.
ReplyDeleteNice style, I could think and wish Megan was around to visit Ponyville.
ReplyDeleteThis premieres at 10AM (EST and PST) on March 3rd on CN...
ReplyDelete...and I say Hub purposely moved pony to 10 AM PST just to make us choose.
Galaxy Girls, please.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I think Chowder was a good show, Adventure Time is better.
Not just SuperGirl. But Batgirl and Wondergirl.
ReplyDelete@Flutterfan It could be one of those instances where short premier videos are shown kind of like how Powerpuff Girls, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and Courage the Cowardly Dog got started.

is this going to be good or bad?
Shorts? How disappointing. A full DC animated series by Lauren Faust would've been so awesome..
ReplyDelete@Sir_Sapphire:
ReplyDeleteOh dear GOD that would be epic. O_O
If it gets popular it could possibly become more than just shorts no?
ReplyDeleteNot really excited for this. I miss fosters home
ReplyDeleteas long as mlp continues i dont really care
ReplyDeleteDC should asked Lauren to be a part of BEFORE WATCHMEN AKA The WATCHMEN Prequel Books.

The only problem lies in the fact that it's on at the same time as MLP-FIM.
ReplyDeleteIt's Faust, therefore it will be awesome.
