Markarian, the Co-Chair at Everfree Northwest, recently gained an audience from one of the higher ups at Hasbro. Their general message about us is extremely positive overall. If you have been worried about their stance on us, this is definitely something to pick up and listen to. Some of the bigger names in the community (Myself included) completely back this.
Please note that Derpy wasn't actually addressed in Markarian's conversation with Hasbro, but we can try to take this news as a positive step toward eventually securing her place in the show.

ReplyDeletehasbro likes us. yay~
ReplyDelete@Punchline Celebrating the lack of shitstorms? Oh u~
ReplyDeleteVery good news indeed. Bravo, Hasbro.
ReplyDeleteYEA!!! SO MUCH HAPPIES!!!
ReplyDeleteDerpy is ok? /)^3^(\ YAY! YAY! YAY!
ReplyDeleteSeth, I imagined your voice to be deeper =P
ReplyDeleteBut yes, good news is always awesome and welcomed. Huzzah! Thanks, Hasbro
Really want to thank this group for putting this out. These kind of community announcements are very helpful for keeping us all informed and squashing rumors.
ReplyDeleteGood to know.
ReplyDeleteso, Short of it is: Stay put, bronies. OK, I can do that. well, I've BEEN doing that.
ReplyDeleteIt's just candy-colored ponies, guys! Chillax!
wohoo~
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I am VERY impressed with the way Hasbro has handled the brony phenomenon. It has shown a generosity and appreciation I never would have expected from a big company. It goes to show how false stereotyping can be, even if it's applied to corporations. Bravo to Hasbro. And bravo to the brony community for earning Hasbro's trust. You should all be very proud of yourselves. :)
ReplyDeleteNever really doubted Hasbro, but it's great to hear an official word.
ReplyDeleteWell, this is really good news.
ReplyDeleteNow to wonder just what Hasbro might put out once they get every thing in place to deal with their unexpected success. Could be some interesting things coming down the pipeline.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteYay! Good news is always a welcome sight. Now lets not give them a reason to regret it. Like they said, keep it civil, lay off the inboxes at every little thing, and remember that they deserve a break now and then too.
ReplyDeleteAlright! We got this! Bronies stronger than ever before.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's good news :)
ReplyDeleteFrom what I can discern, if Hasbro is developing a policy to deal with our demographic, that might also include merchandise that aims specifically towards us. I guess shifting a franchise that was first made for little girls into something more global will take its time. So I agree, lets give them a break, while we keep producing tons of fanart and fanfics.
Hmmm... yay? I don't even know what this is about, I haven't been very active here recently... But it sounds positive, so I'll just confirm that as a yay.
ReplyDeleteThis is very interesting to witness, just the fact that our community has created such an unprecedented situation! I wonder if we will come up years from now in business courses and stuff. Making history is fun! :)
ReplyDeleteTHIS. All of my happiness.
ReplyDeleteNow that we know that there's nothing to fear from Hasbro....
BACK TO PONIES!
Keep calm and love ponies in other words
ReplyDeleteSo I guess we can breathe a little easier now. Sounds like even at this point, Hasbro's still trying to get a handle on the "madness" that is our fandom. They started with a kids show, and instead got pretty much a cultural revolution. Can't blame them for feeling more than a little overwhelmed. In which case, yes, definitely give them some room to breathe and collect their thoughts. They're being patient with us. The least we can do is show them that same patience. Maybe more.
ReplyDeleteHasbro, you guys are awesome!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you...
I find it hypocritical that Hasbro is praising the Bronies yet they are still dangling Fensler by the balls over his G.I. Joe PSA Spoofs
ReplyDelete@James Corck We can only hope.
ReplyDeleteNow they just need to give us more reason to throw money at them :P.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me happy! =)
ReplyDeleteLooks like we gotta settle down a little on the PR letters.....spamming Hasbro not a good idea. Just let them handle the stuff now.
ReplyDeleteYAY! Derpy is safe.
ReplyDeleteMeow Meow Ne'?
ReplyDeleteSounds like Hasbro was totally unprepared for the unified force of bronies worldwide and the demand placed on them from a demographic that is the polar opposite of the intended one. Completely understandable that, as a company, they need time to develop an official stance rather than continuing to play it by ear. They have my support and I trust that the franchise, and its fans, will be well taken care of by those involved. A vote of confidence can go a long way in helping things to play out smoothly and in a positive manner.
ReplyDeleteYeah I figured it wasn't that big of a deal. I am kinda new to this fandom but I have noticed that we can get behind something and get pretty passionite about things but may get too enthusiactic about things. Anyway I am glad that things are working out well and I think if we give Hasbro some time it will work itself out.
ReplyDeleteGreat news, it's relieving to hear that we stand on their good side, especially with some of the trouble a handful of us give them at times :/
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Hasbro just needs time and we will give that to them because they are great and they has been really good with us always, so as a lot of people has been doing just relax and wait till Hasbro can organize themselves and know how to work with the community, wich maybe means that we can get awesome events and contest maybe and who knows what else so... patience everypony and get ready for the awesomeness
ReplyDeleteThis is great news. I really wish there was more transparency in corporate systems. It just really seems like a recipie for disaster to suddenly pull something that looks highly suspicious, and then not say anything about it at all. I understand the need for business privacy, but geeze, just a little "It's ok, were just doing some routine stuff, no need to worry" message from PR would fix most problems that spawn from this.
ReplyDeleteVery deserving of its own post. I foresee awesome things in MLP's future!
ReplyDelete@Fifth Alicorn
ReplyDeletei always imagined his voice to be deeper too...
anyway, glad to see hasbro is being considerate to their fans
@James Fox
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is so much of them praising us, as them trying to figure out what to do about us.
After all, who was expecting us to happen at all?
This certainly makes for good hearing! And it's nice to finally (hopefully so) make it within the first 50 so comments on a new Equestria Daily Link (I know there's a better word for it, but it unfortunately escapes me.)
ReplyDelete@CityFlyer502
ReplyDeleteMadness? This is ponies after all, I figured it would be getting a handle on the 'crazy' that is our fandom.
In any case as long as the muffin queen is safe everything is right with the world. Before it get set on fire by accident.
The title on the post made me think the worst (I can be a bit pessemistic at times) but the content has lightened my mood.
ReplyDeleteWell done all, Hasbro don't always do what I'd consider the best course of action but as they go I consider them very very good.
@Jagershots that would be interesting.
and one last curiosity, has anyone made Hasbro their own pony yet? I have to wonder what they would look like.
Finally [pony name here] is best pony, I believe that covers everything.
oh and something else i want to add to my coment is that its obvious that Hasbro wasnt prepared because suddenly a show that you planned for a specific audience becomes an Internet phenomenom around the world and in a complete opposite audience so as i say before patience and prepare becuase awesome things are sure to happen
ReplyDelete@Hawklaser
ReplyDeleteHeh... the business meeting must be great to listen to.
"Well, we have been working to expand our marketing to college age males"
"Im sorry, what?"
"Yeah, its a long story"
That's good. I'm very glad to hear this. I'm happy to hear that the conversation with Hasbro was very positive.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that we're hearing anything at all from Hasbro, and that things are sounding good. :)
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteGreat! I'm glad things are well, and hope everyone can curb their enthusiasm just a little so that Hasbro can come up with more awesome ways to make us squee over colorful talking ponies.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely good news :) I don't blame Hasbro for being surprised and a bit shocked. Frankly, I'm surprised they handled it as well as they did! They put out a show for little girls and they got us :D Hasbro has been pretty good to the fandom so far, and we bronies can be pretty pushy sometimes. Let's give them some breathing room :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, all the people at Hasbro, for everything you do, and for taking this unexpected phenomenon in stride :)
I honestly wasn't worried about Hasbro's take on Bronies or anything related. Hasbro has never really been -against- Bronies. They've simply always been neutral, if not learning more toward positivity toward Bronies and the community. Some people just take things way too far and start sending themselves and others who are as easily unsettled, into frenzies. Also, take note, only -some- people in the community do that. Some of us are level-headed and don't act like Scootaloo's with our head's chopped off.
ReplyDelete@D. Shadows Well like some of us have said, they sure as hay didn't see us coming. And with all the confusion about Derpy, they must have been even more confused when their inboxes must have been exploding with messages. If that doesn't say "madness" I don't know what does. Point being, they still need some breathing room, and I for one would be more than happy to let them have that.
ReplyDeleteYou all realize what this means for those old Season 3 rumors right?
ReplyDeleteThey STILL haven't fully adjusted to us and are indeed trying to reach out to us more.
This show isn't going ANYWHERE anytime soon. ;)
Super Special Awesome news!
ReplyDeleteThis puts my mind to such ease. I had gotten far more worked up than I should have been over the entire Derpy fiasco, so this was very welcomed.
Thanks BlogPonies. You guys rock. Same with the crew at EverFree NW. (looking forward to the convention BTW)
Hasbro, you guys are amazing. Keep doing what you are doing, and we'll be there every step of the way. :)
Sethisto is FlutterShy...
ReplyDeleteXD
ReplyDeleteThings at big companies just don't happen as quickly as we'd like to, or as quickly as things happen in the brony community for sure. Most likely before they can decide their "strategy" they need to decide who actually gets to make the decision, and what the decision means, and all that...
ReplyDeleteBut honestly, there's NO reason for them to be hostile against bronies. We're their customers. We buy their stuff and help spread the word about the show. What's not to love?
I love you Hasbro and I love you all!
ReplyDeleteJust enough with the Pr letter and stuff and let them have time to do what they need to do.
The headline and the description made it sound like it was bad news. Especially the "extremely positive overall" and the reassurance that important members of the community support the decision. It seemed like an attempt to lessen the blow, or prevent a panic. I almost gave myself a heart attack when I read that.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I am very happy and optimistic about this. Is this official confirmation that Derpy is safe?
This most certainly is great news. Thank you, Seth, for the update!
ReplyDeleteWait so is derpy saved? It's all good now?
ReplyDeleteWas that a 'Derpy is going to be okay'? or a '#savederpy needs to end'? I'm confused....
ReplyDeleteM. Bison YES
ReplyDeleteoden be praised! faith i humanity remains!
ReplyDeleteNow that I think about it more, companies have been trying to tap into the power of the internet and how it can catapult about anything to popular overnight. They have been looking into what exactly makes something go viral.
ReplyDeleteHasbro had the luck for it to happen to a product of theirs. That along with an initial lets wait and see what happens stand point, has let this become as big as it has. They literally struck oil in an unexpected place much like the opening of "The Beverly Hillbillies". The analogy can go farther than just the opening too, as most companies are like the Clampetts, and consumers are like the other people in the show.
It takes time to adapt when things change unexpectedly.
@CityFlyer502
ReplyDelete"And with all the confusion about Derpy, they must have been even more confused when their inboxes must have been exploding with messages."
Well I guess we can officially say...
*puts on glasses*
That the mail mare actually delivered.
YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHH!
Silly Hasbro. This is the internet! :)
ReplyDelete...
RAGERAGEGRAGAGAGERAEGAASBABLEALKDAJSFJLASDFJ
I joke, I joke.
I... honestly don't know what to take from that. However, since Hasbro and Team My Little Pony have been cool to our community so far, I'll follow the example and request submitted by you guys and give them a rest... so instead of being angry that I'm missing two episodes from iTunes (even though one I already have downloaded and the other hasn't been posted yet), I'll just be very anxious and remember that the Hasbro logo is just them smiling back.
ReplyDeleteWell, after hearing about this, and specifically the mention that we can stop operation: Save Derpy, I'm considering shutting down the petition. Of course, we don't have a lot of information on what actually happened, but I imagine we'll learn more with time. The takeaway message is that she'll be alright, right?
ReplyDeleteAnyone and everyone reading this: what do you think? Should I end the petition? Is this pretty well over?
Hasbro seems to be doing right by me. But now I feel guilty about signing that Derpy petition a few days ago (hurray for Derpy!) So no more contacting Hasbro from me in any shape or form. Keep calm and canter on.
ReplyDeleteYeesh, how have you guys not heard my voice already
ReplyDelete@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteI have. You said you were in lesbians with Trixie during the L4D2 livestream.
@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteActually, Seth, I haven't. This was the first time I heard you speak.
@Railgun Season 3 aside, I'm wondering how they plan to capitalize on us. What are they going to sell to meet "the complete opposite demographic"
ReplyDelete:O
@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteSomeone missed those days, the memo's or were to busy listening to Trixie talking about how powerful she is. She can go on for hours and we'll listen because she's a pony.
@Nämahs
ReplyDeleteAccurate ALL THE PONIES!
@Sethisto Well, we've heard it now. :D
ReplyDeleteGreat news that know that Hasbro slowly but surely getting the hang of things about the fandom, though it might take them some time, so the best thing we can do is just to wait and see what will happen
ReplyDeleteSo in the meantime *grabs popcorn*
Well of course they like our money.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWell well well. This news is MOST EXCELLENT! *Thumbs-up/Grin*
ReplyDeleteAnd it makes me wonder... if Bronies will completely buck the trend of "RUINED FOREVER" that the Transformers fanbase set with Hasbro.(No offense to said fans on this site, I understand that there are plenty of you that don't fit the description...)
I mean, yeah, our fandom already generally bucks many trends online. I don't have to go into Love and Tolerate and countless other examples of being Mare-Do-Wells, now, do I? Hehehe... But I digress.
Point being, to have our source company (Hasbro) recognize and ANTICIPATE (aka, use marketing to prepare products for) our... requests?
That would be (and likely WILL be) so much WIN, that we won't be able to contain ourselves with joy, as we continue to shape the internet around us, not just for ponies, but for every other fandom that comes after us.
I am looking VERY forward to that first day of a renewed partnership with Hasbro, and to all the beautiful days that will follow it.
Stay awesome in love and friendship, my fellow bronies.
@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteMan, I heard your voice and thought that you sound like Michael Cera before it was cool... *hipster glasses*
Good, very good. Such coordinative info blocks, clarifying things and just being not-too-long and yet informative - that's what's greatly needed in the Community, I'd say.
ReplyDelete@Nämahs
ReplyDeleteLets start with some obvious ones. More show accurate stuff and Season box sets of the show.
Its the other not so obvious stuff that will be interesting. Who knows, there might start doing action figures, after all they have villains they could market. It would be funny if that actually spread the brand even farther. As can be hard to find toys of mythical monsters. I would buy some of the villains for myself.
*hipster shades*
ReplyDeleteI heard Seth's voice back on the very first Q&Neigh
We'll wait patiently!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I guess I don't really need second opinions. Shutting down the petition!
ReplyDeleteJust, one final message about it for everyone:
Well everyone, something has finally happened. Either we were heard or there was nothing to worry about all along. There's absolutely no clarification yet aside from 'Hasbro is trying to figure out how to market toward us.' Mayhap all of this was simply a copyright claim regarding Derpy, as the speculation went.
Anyway, I want all of you to know: signing this petition was not a matter to be ashamed of, now that Derpy appears safe. We all thought something could happen to a pony we all love, and we took steps to try to save her. It was a noble cause. And most importantly, this petition was never, at any point, created of malicious intent toward Hasbro. In fact, it was wholly positive the entire time it ran. So thank you all for that - it was your comments that made it as positive as it was.
That said, the petition will shut down shortly. Derpy is safe, regardless of if it's because of us or not. Thank you all again for your support and kindness.
Let's be civil bronies, Hasbro has handled everything amazingly well. I take my hat off to them, they're awesome. I mean, we would have mlp fim as we know it without Faust, but it was Hasbro who proposed it in the first place (not to mention runs it, pays for it, makes the toys, adds, etc lol xD )
ReplyDeleteHasbro likes our money, yay
ReplyDeleteMore like Hasbronies, am I right?
ReplyDelete@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteMy "broadband" connection is a whopping 0.34Mbps (45KBps), so I have a tendency to skip most multimedia posts; that's my excuse, anyway.
@Johuotar
But of course!
@brilliantspecter
I want to thank you for running a positive petition; the one thing that bothered me about the whole Derpy Drama was all the fans who chose to dismiss or attack anyone who complained about Derpy's appearance.
@Ink
I'm grateful that Hasbro let Lauren Faust do what she wanted with MLP, but I still hope they (or someone else) will back her Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls sometime; that also looks like a lot of fun.
Seems to be good news indeed. Thanks for the update!
ReplyDeleteHasbro, thanks!
About the petition...
ReplyDeleteGuys, a petition is one single document with many signatures. This is FAR better than many documents with one signature. It's clean and it's precise. I say, continue with the petition, just be nice about it... and don't make multiple petitions.
Wow, thank you Hasbro. They've never seen anything like this before, just like I've never seen something like this before. It's totally understandable that they would need some time to process something like this happening; something that was the complete opposite of what they expected. This show and fandom are changing the face of media. And hey, our favorite Muffin Queen ain't going nowhere either. Celebrate good times, come on!
ReplyDeleteI woke up this morning kinda feeling like shit. but this news turned my frown upside down.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hasbro I love you.
And thank you EQD for going the extra mile for us.
He said, "In good hooves"... he said that.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's terrific news! While the Hub and Studio B have clearly loved us, it's always felt like Hasbro themselves have been pretty ambivalent toward us. So now, confirmation that they're aware of us, and want a good working relationship with us, and heavily implied that they might start marketing to us? This is the day that many of us have been waiting for!
ReplyDeleteStill idk... the Hasbro rep was complaining about the volume of emails they were getting but... that was kinda the point, ne? Spamming questions about the status of Derpy, or about the VA appearances, or about Blu-rays, yadda yadda yadda -- the point of all that was to show support and/or to get clarification. I mean, the quickest way for them to stop the flood of #SaveDerpy emails would've been to release an official statement to the fansites, rather than ask "less emails plz" with no details to a single podcaster.
Buuuuut, it sounds like that's precisely the marketing team they're getting into place. So I'll stop QQ'ing over catch 22s. The future looks bright indeed, and they have my trust.
Hasbro's a pretty cool company, they like the fans and don't afraid of anything.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit, being a Transformers fan, I'm not entirely surprised by this. Hasbro's pretty cool to it's fans.
What was this "freeze on having any voice talent / creative talent from the show appearing at events" he mentioned in the video? I haven't heard anything about this - at least not on EqD. Anyone who's more knowledgeable care to enlighten us?
ReplyDelete@Graveheart Personally, that sounds like a very bad idea.
ReplyDeleteIf they like us, then please stop sending those copyright infringement claims on youtube and taking down those episodes
ReplyDeleteYup Hasbro is beginning to recover by our curveball.. glad we are getting the Transformers PR lead on this, because he knows our general demographic (or closer).
ReplyDelete@ALazyFriend
ReplyDeleteThey are likely obligated by law to do that. Shareholder interests and contracts with others like Apple iTunes have to be watched out for.
@Beatfox
ReplyDeleteI would guess that Voice Actors on the show would have to have permission from Hasbro before appearing on any pony related events.
Example being the Michelle Creber Christmas songs that had to be taken out because it wasn't "authorized"
@ALazyFriend Okay... Two things, One: We are technically stealing there property and giving it away, even though they stream the newest episodes for free on their website. Two: that's not always Hasbro doing that, more often it's a troll pretending to be Hasbro.
ReplyDelete@Fanloser
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree with the notion, you should get paid for your work (I had no hard feelings over a particular website that got shut down providing free downloads. Reality is this whole "business" side of thing is really a royal pain. For US bronies, the obvious choice is the Hub, Hasbro's own TV channel. But for viewers outside of the state who relies on youtube for new episodes it's the only thing left, and for the local broadcast network to "gain copyright" and finally air the episodes it might be a year and a bit later...I sincerely hope Hasbro's marketing team can work around the issue so we can both come to terms with the copyright and the episode viewing right
@ALazyFriend Did you miss the, "stream for free on their website," part? All you have to do is wait a bit and it'll be up there.
ReplyDeleteNow if they'd release toys that actually are the same color as the name on the box...
ReplyDeleteSo I guess we wont be seing any show-accurate Pony toys at Toyfair this weekend. :p
ReplyDeleteUm... If this video lasted 15 seconds, it would be enough. The whole msg was:
ReplyDelete"We generally want to capitalize on you but are not sure how to do it. Give us some time. In the meanwhile, don't bug all of our people too much".
This is neither good nor bad msg. It's just what anyone should expect from a PR representative of a corporation. I was counting on an interview or something but "haha"s and "hello"s were dominant :]
@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteDude, I keep just barely missing you at the BroNYCons. And yet I have heard you speak.
Anyways, this sort of business - fan community interaction is admirable.
It renews my hope that more skillful networking will make it possible for businesses to become one with their investors and target consumers, the same way protocells became one with mitochondria. Such a dramatic shift would drastically improve efficiency.
I love how the community does not consist of 14 year old kids, just like so many people see us... I really do like that we have smart people around the place, people who can and like making convertation, and who are intellectually able to do so...
ReplyDeleteThe sad part is, that this is the very part of the community that can be sometimes misunderstood and underestimated... I hope that this, however, does solve some issues people may have had :)
@XyroTR1
You... you can stop with #savederpy now. XD
One more thing.
ReplyDeleteI keep having a feeling that a lot of us, including me, are trying hard to shove our money into Hasbro's throat but they are reluctant to take it. Their loss.
Can't legally buy an episode? Torrents. Can't get a plushie? Bronies make them too. The problem lies with figurines ("dolls", models) as these from Hasbro are simply disgusting and nobody makes good ones.
bottomline was the demand far exceeds the supply. They want to do something they just really dont know how yet.
ReplyDeleteTranformer Ponies get.
@Fanloser
ReplyDeleteum, the Video content on the Hub website is only accessible to US users, and proxies fail as a workaround AFAIK. So, nope, that's not a viable option either (plus, I prefer to watch the show in English because our dubbed version is, in my opinion, inferior)
@Fanloser
ReplyDeleteNope, like I said in my previous post, the official website is cater to American fans ONLY. The streaming of contents do not help those of us who are outside of the US jurisdiction, because we couldn't get around it even with proxy ips. You have to understand there are fans outside of the US and North America that have difficulties accessing contents on the Hub (myself included) due to differences in copyright claims ie. Hasbro US selling copyrights to say X TV station in another country, we don't always get the latest contents.
I don't remember who said the quote, but it fits the situation when it comes to Hasbro and the Brony community:
ReplyDelete"You often don't get the audience you want the most, but the audience you deserve."
This is a pretty awesome news update. :D I'm curious to see what Hasbro will do about our unexpected fandom in the future.
ReplyDelete*cough* Youtube takedowns... *cough*
ReplyDeleteThere was a freeze on talent attending events? First I've heard of it. I thought this was going to be about Derpy.
ReplyDeleteGood news regardless though.
Hold your horses.............I can't even contain my laughter.
ReplyDeleteWhat I was hoping to find out was when MLP: FiM is coming to EU Itunes. At the moment, we EU brones are being left out in the cold.
ReplyDelete@James Corck Whether they release brony merch or not, I'm happy with the little plastic ponies. :3
ReplyDelete@Shantara
ReplyDeleteRegardless of their stance on Bronies, it can't be expected that Hasbro will look the other way on pirated content.
(We all know that many overseas fans would buy the episodes if they could. This is an unfortunate result of international licensing agreements which are at least a decade behind the technological times.)
@Pav Feira
ReplyDeleteIt is clear that most of the staff working the show do enjoy engaging this community. It is also clear that they are putting minor things in the show for us specifically (speaking Derpy ended up being a big thing).
I'm not sure that the Hasbro guy was really complaining (it is hard to know since the information was relayed), but may have been stating the fact that he's receiving and reading emails from Bronies as a way to enforce that Hasbro is getting the emails and does know we exist. They're not just going to /dev/null.
Hasbro certainly likes making money, and I'm sure that if they believe that they can make money off of Bronies without compromising the brand image or profits from the traditional MLP demographic, they will take measures to do so.
@Shiranai THIS. Licensing laws are desperately stuck in the 80's and seriously need to be revised to fit into this century.
ReplyDelete@JagerShots
ReplyDeleteDo you ever think before you type? Do you stop and tell yourself ''Oh hey, maybe I'm not that unique, maybe Minecraft did the same thing and they don't have to self-congratulate themselves on supposedly how awesome they are.''
Just sayian.
@Laura
ReplyDeleteI literally squeed two hours ago when I stepped into a local toy shop and found the individual Pony Dolls, with DVD's of Applebuck season. I'm really happy with those toys too :3
Yay! Thank you Hasbro for being grown up about things, and please forgive those of us who aren't.
ReplyDeleteI would love for there to be a way to watch any episode I want online without having to give some company my personal and financial infos. I wouldn't even mind commercial breaks just like on tv. As a matter of fact I would probably be more likely to pick a particular brand of something if it was advertised during a show I like such as FIM.
ReplyDelete@Shiranai
ReplyDeleteThat's why I was excited to hear that they have someone working on marketing Ponies who previously marketed Transformers. Everyone knows that lots of adults buy Transformers, and they've done a good job marketing to both kids and adults with that franchise.
Heck, this might result in us getting some slightly more show-accurate toys. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! :)
Heh, now I can finally say "I'm in lesbians with Trixie" in the correct voice.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I guess it's nice that Hasbro is okay with us, too.
@Mr.Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThat was unnecessarily vitriolic.
Minecraft is an example of a small indie company whose product was a runaway success with the obvious demographic.
MLP is an example of a large international company learning to cope with a COMPLETELY unexpected demographic becoming part of the fanbase.
If minecraft had developed a core following of 60 year old women, then they would be comparable. As it is, both are interesting cases that I'm sure students of business will watch closely, for different reasons.
Let's help Hasbro out here and list some pony products we'd be interested in.
ReplyDelete1. Karaoke/instrumental tracks for the songs, to be used for singing at parties, brony conventions, or just at home having fun.
2. PG Rated content. For example some episodes were heavily altered or canned because Hasbro felt that they wouldn't appeal to the target audience. Prince Blueblood for example was changed frok a Duke to a Prince because they felt little girls wouldn't know what a Duke was.
I think maybe there should be occasional content that's meant for older viewers, not shown on the Hub, but maybe an occasional special episode DVD included with brony-targeted merchandise. I'm not talking about anything vulgar here (no shed.mov, or cupcakes lol) just something with a more sophisticated audience in mind now and then.
3. Adult sized officially licensed clothing, hand bags (for pegasisters mostly on that one), accessories, etc.
4. Show-accurate figurines (a white Celestia, for example, a full-sized Luna, cutie marks on both sides of the flanks, etc.)
5. Food-related Maybe a recipe book on how to make various recipes from the show like Chimi Cherry/Cherry Changa, or Sugar Cube Corner Cupcakes, or an edible flower sandwich.
Maybe pony-shaped candies or decorative jars for keeping flour/pasta in, or pony salt and pepper shakers, that kind of thing.
I'd like to see pony scented candles (I don't think I'd burn them unless I bought extras though!)
HURRAY! HASBRO LOVES US!I´m so happy now!
ReplyDeleteSo... Hasbro's trying to cope with bronies, right? It sounded more like "Ok, we understand, this is NOT a little girls show like the others before it. Let us cope with this news for a while, we'll call the guys of TFP to give us a hand in here. Hold on.
ReplyDeleteOf course Hasbro loves us. It's taking forever for them to actually show it though. The show is over a year old. We're just getting a DVD. The toy line hasn't been upgraded or changed. And the only merchandise that's really targeted towards us are We Love Fine shirts which is just fan art on t-shirts.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we will finally get the attention that the Transformers fans get, but time is a tickin'. This really shouldn't be that hard strategically. Just take a page out of the GI Joe or Transformers playbook. They've been catering to their fans of all ages for years with those brands! Maybe there's some skepticism about demographics and sales (I admit I have some skepticism too), but they haven't shown much of an effort as far as tangibles go.
I can only keep hoping that SDCC is where and when we'll finally see some results.
@ALazyFriend
ReplyDeleteIn fact, it's because the Hub, formerly Discovery Kids, is NOT all over the world. For example, in Latin America, FiM is being broadcasted in Discovery Kids, as Discovery Networks Latin America still has ownership of that channel. Boing and Cartoonito broadcast(ed) the series in Spain.
@Rubystars
ReplyDelete1) Yes, music from the show would be nice.
2) PG content? Sorry, but we fell in love with this show because it didn't have that stuff. I don't think Hasbro or the folks working on the show should cater to us like that. They should continue to use the formula that got them this fanbase in the first place.
3) I don't know if Hasbro would be the best people to market clothing. Unless they hire an outside group to do it. But we already have WeLoveFine, so...
4) Yes, definitely show accurate toys would be nice. Fuckin pink Celestia...
5) Pretty much the same as 3. Hasbro is a toy company. If they were going to expand that, they would have to hire an outside company to do clothing, or cooking, or whatever. I don't think they would hire a company like that when they could just stick with what they know. They could get on a lot of bronies good lists if we got season box set DVDs and accurate toys for the show.
@jodyjm13
ReplyDeleteMy friend, I knew from the start that whatever was going on, Hasbro wasn't doing it to attack us. Whether it be copyright or offended people, it was something Hasbro HAD to deal with.
So you're quite welcome. I was quite bothered by all of the exact same stuff.
@Rubystars
ReplyDeleteBlu-ray season boxsets, hooves down. I'd also second the music CD idea, just because Ingram seemed to hint at that possibility months ago, and then we never heard about it again.
@Rubystars>pony scented candles
ReplyDeletelolwut
I don't know about everypony else, but I'm cool with being capitalized on for monetary gain. Send in a show accurate Fluttershy blindbag and I'll personally walk into the pink isle and buy one for an excessively large price. Hell, if they made a half decent plushie, I'd be OK with not buying the next Battlefield or AC game for a while.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this is one step in the direction of making me not look out of my mind and childish and perhaps even look a bit like a pedophile for liking ponies. Yeah my mom thinks I am being creepy and that EQD is just full of little girls and that I am somehow acting retarded. I love my mom but I want her to eat her fucking words.
ReplyDeleteGood to know what's going on with Hasbro. "How do we deal with all these male pony lovers!?" XD
ReplyDeleteI always wondered what is about the takedowns on Youtube.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's just random trolls claiming to be Hasbro, while Hasbro never does antything with Youtube. They are just as fine with it as they always were.
BUT!
When someone sends them letters about the takedowns the only thing they can officially state IS, that they have to save their owned properity.
They CAN NOT officially and in a legal way say, that they don't mind that we share episodes of their show on Youtube. Do they?
This is what I think now.
Added a few more caps locked words so people look at it more :P
God, I LOVE!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this site!
LOVE this fandom!
And, of course, LOVE this show so much!
All I want to know is... why is Hasbro hogging all the food?
ReplyDeleteHasbro has their very own Spongebob Squarepants, now let's see what they can do with it.
ReplyDeleteHmm. This is good news, but still doesn't really answer any questions. At least it shows we're still on Hasbro's good side.
ReplyDelete@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteTo be Fair, I'm a recent convert, so I didn't have a opinion on the voice either way.
But I'm happy Hasbro has decided to listen to us and I'm even happier we can have a positive working relationship with a company when something we think is wrong, it certainly helps the overall feelings of both parties.
So closing comment, Bravo Hasbro, Bravo.
Hey, you know what this calls for?
ReplyDelete...A PARTEY!
Yay i can wait for Hasbro
ReplyDeleteI'm like the dragon born of waiting
@jodyjm13
ReplyDelete"-the one thing that bothered me about the whole Derpy Drama was all the fans who chose to dismiss or attack anyone who complained about Derpy's appearance."
...Thank you for that. Thank you for being the only person in this whole page of comments who said that. You have to be one of maybe three people on EQDaily I've seen who have said that.
When rumors of the removal came up, spam, threats, and "fuck you" flew around like no tomorrow. Bronies in general, I get that you might disagree with Derpy being offensive or disagree with somebody that didn't like *something* when this came out. But that doesn't justify countering people who said "I'm offended" by essentially going "COME AT ME, BRO!"
Hey, Sethisto, we got a comment telling people not to spam Hasbro. Would it be possible for just a little love and tolerance going the other way and telling people not to spam people who had issues with the character?
I think the most feasible change in approach is show-accurate figurines. Hasbro are certainly aware that Internet popularity can disappear as quickly as it arrived, so I expect they'll want to create merchandise with wide appeal that can still be sold to children if the adult market evaporates. It's unlikely there'll be anything aimed exclusively at adults unless the investment required is trivial.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I would sell my own liver for a genuine flying Luna.
While the title of the article is a little misleading, I think most of us thought this was about Derpy, it's good to hear anything good out of Hasbro about the fandom. Now get them to address Derpy-gate.
ReplyDelete@Hawklaser
ReplyDeleteEven if Hasbro didn't expect us
Hasbro seems to still can't let Fensler's G.I. Joe PSAs be nor tolerate them, example being they forbid the voice crew for a G.I. Joe movie tie-in video game to do a reference of them (i.e. "Porkchop Sandwiches")
I am too busy to watch this right now... Quick! Someone summarize it for me!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know what proportion of FiM merchandise sales are to bronies, as opposed to little girls via their parents? I'm just curious how much money Hasbro is already making from this demographic without even deliberately marketing to us.
ReplyDeleteSo... People on Twitter seem to think I should open up my petition again, and keep it running until we know for sure. Thoughts, if anyone is still reading this?
ReplyDeletePetitions showing our love for Derpy, with the purpose of showing Hasbro that we truly care about this character and what she represents to us, are definitely encouraged until we get official word.
ReplyDeleteHowever, any and all petitions attacking or blaming Hasbro for any of the recent events are strongly discouraged until we get some evidence.
hasbro likes Bronies? kewl. >.>
ReplyDelete@Bejoty
ReplyDeleteMy petition's the main one, which everyone's been following and linking. I shut it down last night, after giving the message in the above video some thought.
There's absolutely no malicious intent toward Hasbro in it. It's a reaction to people trying to say Derpy is offensive, not a reaction against Hasbro.
So, would you (and anyone else reading this) say that it should keep going, knowing all that?
This is a positive. Who knows maybe we will see more collectable merch coming out that is directed towards older fans. I'd love to have some real mane ponies or even the blind bags to the US lol.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very positive development but I'll wait and see before giving Hasbro my trust.
ReplyDeleteActions speak louder than words.
@CityFlyer502 Madness...? THIS. IS. EQUESTRIA! I apologize. I had to do this. I've probably been beat to it though. Didn't read past your comment yet, as I didn't want to forget to come back and post this, so I wouldn't know.
ReplyDelete@brilliantspecter I say keep it up 'till we know for sure. o.o
ReplyDelete@James Fox
ReplyDeleteIt might be a matter of taste then, also its one thing for the internet to run with something vs actually being officially sanctioned product.
Like in this fandom, Derpy seems to be ok for them to use, but I highly doubt they will ever do anything with the fanfic "Cupcakes" or the R34 stuff.
Yay! It's good to see Hasbro is taking our community into account! I'm glad there's no problems!! Props to you Hasbro! *Claps*
ReplyDeleteAwe fantastic :D
ReplyDeleteNow we need to continue showing the love by trying to SUPPORT the company and Studio B (and also the Filipino studio doing most of the grunt-work of animating it) and try to stop being so dang negative over each episode, every new 'development' in cartoon canon, etc etc.
ReplyDeleteBe positive! That way it's a much more easy thing to listen to even if one has improvements and suggestions in mind.
Whats probably got em freaked out is that this is supposed to be a girl's show. Hasbro should be aware of adult interest in their toylines with the GiJoe/Transformers fanbase. They put out G1 toys for the longtime fans alongside the new lines.
ReplyDeleteAdvice for Hasbro: DVD season box sets, dont stop the cartoon at 65 episodes, and more show-accurate toys.
I think it's also appropriate to request a season 4 (since season 3 is already being made I heard)
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletethey are right, lets settle down guys, there is so much overwhelming demand from the bronie horde, remember that lesson from Fluttershy, don't bite more than you can chew.
ReplyDeleteSeth, your voice is amazing
ReplyDeleteand the interweb everywhere just blows up everywhere from this news and I would love to thank Apple Cider and Chef Sandy for bringing us this news, they do an amazing job
ReplyDeleteThe biggest news in this post for me was Sethisto's voice. That is ENTIRELY not what you sounded like in my head.
ReplyDeleteSO asome! /)^3^(\
ReplyDeleteHearts and Hooves day is out on Itunes early. Just thought you all should know.
ReplyDeleteSo this is Hasbro's voice....
ReplyDeleteHasbro, please make My Little Pony ever more girly, even more cuter, and make it have more crying, more smiling, more hugging, more bunnies, and more fluttershy.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
BRONY
This right here is why I love the Brony community. We are bronies united! *Holds hand of nearest brony*
ReplyDelete@Fifth Alicorn
ReplyDeleteGuess you haven't heard, Seth's in lesbians with Trixie.
Seconding more show-accurate toys.
ReplyDeleteCurrently only the minis are allright, even though Fluttershy is a recolor of RD, and basic brushables can be made to look acceptable with a lot of hairdresser work.
I want a big Twi that looks like Twi!
This could be the start of something.
ReplyDeleteRepeating myself, once again. "This too shall pass." :)
ReplyDeleteI saw this when it got hastily posted up on www.derpyhoovesnews.com on the first day. Conveniently, right after I listened to that episode of the Bronyville podcast. I'd highly recommend everypony listen to both of them. That episode of Bronyville might be a real "bite the bullet" time for some types of bronies, but it does help explain a lot. :)
Keep calm but stay alert. :)
Do we know why iTunes pulled "The Last Roundup" and havn't put it back ? Was that iTunes or Hasbro's doing and why ?
ReplyDeleteI'm just curious.
It's official, I can now emphasize the Bro in HasBRO. :)
ReplyDeleteThey're the BFG of Corporate Entities (that's Big Friendly, not Big F***ing).
inb4Hasbro goes Corporate Troll on all of us like every other corporation nowadays seems to be doing.
ReplyDelete@Toonicorn
ReplyDeletewell they have been dealing with the transformer fandom for YEARS now, im pretty sure they have got their routine down for the large fanbases. They just were not expecting one for a show like MLP, it kinda hit them like a ton of bricks.
Way to be humble, Seth. :/
ReplyDeleteOh gawd, the guy in charge of our demographic did transformers? NO MICHAEL BAY MLP MOVIES!!! (lol!)
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, it's good to see things like this comming out, really, it is :D
