The Harvest Moon style pony game, "My Little Pony - Budding Friendships" has released a new short demo video of their current progress. Apparently the entire team has been restructured from the ground up and is now focused on getting this thing completed!

ReplyDeleteNot too sure about "Budding Friendchships". Now i imagine Friendchips.
ReplyDeleteLookin' pretty good, the text sounds reminds me of phoenix wright :D
ReplyDeleteDefinitely starting to come together. Can't wait to see the final product.
ReplyDeleteHarvest Moon....AND PONIES!
ReplyDeleteGood lord sir this is THE. BEST. POSSIBLE. THING!
It's coming along quite nicely, will give it a go when it's finished.
ReplyDeleteI'd play a ponified Harvest Moon if it kept the dating, marriage, and child bearing.
ReplyDeleteFinally they got out some news, I like news about games ... with ponies ... yay
ReplyDeleteharvest moon... with PONIES???? PINCH ME!!!! no don't let me dream this dream...
ReplyDeleteHarvest moon with poies? did i mention that in my house is a bunker with supplies for the next 5 years? cu in 5 years^^
ReplyDeleteFriendchsips? Really Seth?
ReplyDeleteBudding French Dips?
ReplyDeleteok, mean joke aside, harvest moon is the perfect game for a ponified version
ReplyDeleteLooks vaguely interesting. I've not played a Harvest Moon game before, but judging by what I've heard about how the gameplay works, it's well suited to a pony game. I'll keep an eye on this project.
ReplyDelete<3 Three of my favorite background ponies in one go! Roseluck, Carrot Top, Berry Punch. But that aside, the game looks really fun! I really loved playing Harvest Moon..specifically the N64 one and the one for PSP.
ReplyDeleteFred chips?
ReplyDelete@SenialHobo
ReplyDelete*pinches SenialHobo*
ten years from now, can we expect the rune factory crossover?
ReplyDeleteBudding French-Dips. Or maybe French-sips?
ReplyDelete@Cyberlight
ReplyDeleteIndeed, that's the sound effect for text. It's just a placeholder so it's not entirely quiet.
Mmmm... friend chips!
ReplyDeleteFarming sim is very far from being my favorite genre, but it's ponies so I'll probably give it a try.
ReplyDeleteAaaargh, they put the apostrophe in the wrong spot in "y'all"! HATE THIS GAME FOREVER!
ReplyDelete. . . dammit, it looks too cool to be hated forever.
@pmcollectorboy
ReplyDeleteSorry, no romance etc. in this game....
I would really like it to be incorporated, too.
Budding Friendchsips? argh I don't like that name, but Harvest Moon+Ponies sounds great!

ReplyDeleteThis is definatly a game i'll look forwards to playing :D great job!
ReplyDeleteWould only play with a romance sub-plot, that was one of the best aspects of Harvest Moon: Back to Nature.
ReplyDeleteI was very, very fond of Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town for the GBA... and this looks more similar to that game than I thought it would.
ReplyDeleteI just hope this one is open-ended...
Looks pretty cool and has a feel of minecraft for some reason (probaly the textures)
ReplyDeletelol, budding friendships. I see what they did there.
ReplyDeleteMLP:FIM based indie games should start with this sort of 8-bit 'pokemon game' type of format. They'd be more reasonable to code.
I want some Friend Chips with my Big Macintosh please.
ReplyDeleteThe town looks big. I think the game might need a running option.
ReplyDeleteit okay but need to be work on better
ReplyDelete@Mike
ReplyDelete... ...Or at least, for the player character.
I don't get why all these RPG game makers keep releasing trailers that show absolutely nothing aside from "Hey look, we have some sprites and an engine with four-directional movement around a 2D map that lets you talk to NPCs!" No gameplay elements, no story elements, no area showcases, no art showcase, just a video that essentially says, "Hey, we've taken 30 minutes into the 2000+ man-hour process of making an RPG!"
ReplyDeleteThe trailer shows absolutely nothing that you can't have within a couple minutes of opening up an RPG maker, and absolutely nothing to distinguish it from other games in its genre, so why bother releasing something like this?
At the initial phase of development, if you really feel it's worth building hype already for something that's very likely to not see completion, you should at least be showing off concept art or truly unique features of your game.
So do we make our own characters or what?
ReplyDelete@Lupus Albus
ReplyDeleteTrue,True. But maybe all the stuff they want to put in is not fully completed yet.
@RainbowSMASHI think the point that he's making is that if the creators don't have any distinguishing features to show off yet, they shouldn't bother releasing a teaser video at all until they do.
ReplyDelete@Lupus Albus
ReplyDeleteWell, according to their FAQ it's a custom C++ engine, so they've already put way more time into the project then you give them credit for. Also it's not like their shoving it down your throat either.
Also, harvest moon isn't really an RPG. It has no combat, a small item set, and little to explore. It's more of a game about optimization and doing routine tasks efficiently. Implementing a decent HM system should take considerably less resources then implementing a decent RPG.
@Luxin_Nocte
ReplyDeleteo.O that was like, half of the game in Harvest Moon.
@Lupus Albus
ReplyDeleteThis game is _NOT_ an RPG Maker game. We have been working on this for almost eight months now. The engine is completely written from scratch in C++. We wish we had more to show, but we really wanted to get a video out of what we are capable of.
We are far from the initial phase of development. If we would have died, it would have been months ago when we were still on Ponychan. There are a lot more things that aren't easily seen in the video (like Sugarcube Corner, the Flower Shop, Town Hall, and the School), which we will be posting on our site soon.
When comes the first Pony-Ego-Shooter???
ReplyDeleteA pony HM-style game? This is THE. BEST. POSSIBLE. THING. Seriously, I really want to play this. What would be a good timetable for the completion of the game?
ReplyDeleteLooks interesting, I enjoyed the Harvest Moon on SNES. Now, I looked over their blog, but I couldn't find out if the game worked on mac. Does anybody have any information regarding that?
ReplyDelete@Norrikan
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm one of the artists, but I think I can answer this.
As of now, not yet. If we get someone willing to port it to Mac/Unix, then sure.
SInce they won't put in Romance, Dating, or Having Kids, we'll just have to HACK IT!
ReplyDeleteFried Crisps?
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteI love the Harvest Moon series. Ironically, Harvest Moon was a case of "don't judge a book by its cover" for me. I thought farming was the dumbest concept in the world for a video game. Keep in mind I was a young kid back then. When I finally played the game, I warmed up to it and now Harvest Moon 64 is one of my favorite games of all time. Whew, I've said a mouthful. I'll have to check this game out.
ReplyDelete@Jake
ReplyDeletelol exactly what HM does to people. xD I dunno for me its either FOMT and BTN. (and by extent Boy & Girl for the PSP) that are tied in being my favorites.
I think my favorite is Magical Melody because of the wide variety of girls.
ReplyDeleteHarvest Mooooooooon!
ReplyDeleteHOLY. FUCKING. SHIT. I WANT TO PLAY THAT.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of pokemon
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteYes.
All of it.
Every yes I have.
Take them all.
Awesome I'm looking forward to playing this game

ReplyDeleteI really hope the 'sound' for the text will be toned down a little... becomes a bit annoying after a while, you know.
ReplyDeleteand here I thought Pony + Harvest Moon would be an original idea. Someone else beat me to it
