For those of you who were still on the fence about the upcoming Friendship Express pony DVD, it looks like Amazon has pre-orders of it on sale for just ten bucks. That is pretty much the same prices as buying the same number of episodes off iTunes, so if you want to start building your physical DVD collection, this is a good one to get going with!

hell yeah, getting this.
ReplyDeleteMUST ACQUIRE !
ReplyDeleteWait, Dash is a blank flank on the cover. I hope they fix that.
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteI know what to get for my friends birthday so they will stop asking for my iTunes info.
ReplyDeleteMy phone seems to hate me posting on eqd :(
Already pre-ordered, so the price going down is always a yay. However, I suspect the shipping cost to Australia went up since, so I'm not sure I actually saved any money...
ReplyDelete+ 1 Australian preorder.
ReplyDelete"Region: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only."
ReplyDeleteWhat idiot came up with the idea of different regions for DVDs?
sounds nice.
ReplyDeletewont buy. still pissed we wont be getting show accurate figures OR a season dvd any day soon.
ReplyDeleteOR FOR THE LOVE OF CELESTIA WHY DONT WE HAVE PLUSHY'S YET!!!!?????????
ReplyDeleteI'm... hesitant.
ReplyDelete@Kinrah
ReplyDeleteThe media industry. Someone thought it would be a good idea to control what people could watch by country, as if we somehow wouldn't find out/pirate it anyway. Suddenly things like SOPA/ACTA appear, when everyone would be happy if they could just sort out some worldwide release schedules... v_v;
Hope they hurry up and bring these DVDs over here to the UK soon. I couldn't care less about iTunes - lacking an iPod/iPhone (refuse to give that ass of a company a single penny) means iTunes videos are nothing more than a waste of HDD space to me. Hooray for DRM!
@Kinrah
ReplyDeleteI know, right? When I was building my David Attenborough collection, I had to use illegal pirating software to remove the region lock on DVDs I legally bought because Life of Plants was only sold in Britain and thus was Region 2.
Totally worth it, though.
btw, for those non-region 1 fans out there wanting this DVD, I recommend DVDshrink for de-regioning purposes.
Brought 3 to save on shipping, leave one in shrink wrap keep one to play and one will be a present for a lucky brony i know ^^
ReplyDeleteInb4 "currently unavailable"
ReplyDeleteI got a poster with my pre-order at the mall
ReplyDeleteI got a poster with my pre-order at the mall
ReplyDeleteI got a poster with my pre-order at the mall
ReplyDeleteWith the Aussie Dollar where it is, it's completely bloody worth it.
ReplyDeletehere is the stats to the dvd's i already (cough)burned(cough) have

1080p (with some 720p) none are watermaked

so im in no hurry for a special dvd release
(quick note-if the show comes out on series official dvds, i would buy to support)

ReplyDeleteCome on the just picked some random episodes and slapped them on a dvd
ReplyDeleteSeason 1 - Episode 01 Friendship Is Magic, Part 1 (Mare In The Moon)
Season 1 - Episode 02 Friendship Is Magic, Part 2 (Elements Of Harmony)
Season 1 - Episode 21 Over A Barrel
Season 2 - Episode 11 Hearth’s Warming Eve
Season 2 - Episode 14 The Last Roundup
@Luna
ReplyDeleteWell, since the DVD is called "Friendship Express", they picked three episodes with trains in it. :P
@Luna
ReplyDeletecartoon network and 4kids do that alot....i dont think we have a complete Ben 10 box set anywhere, not a complete pokemon, yugioh.....yea, you get this...its stupid. its why i wont buy this
Here's my question - exactly how many little girls do you know that're into trains? I mean, of course ponies make sense, but... never wanted a train to go with 'em. Am I just different? Have trains been my secret desire all along!? Has that gnawing, empty pain been for a decided lack of locomotives in my life? This may require research!
ReplyDeleteOh hell yeah! Def will get my hands on this.
ReplyDeleteOf course it's only in region 1 isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI'll just have to wait until it comes out in region 4, if I still want to buy it.
That's what I get for living in a place where everything is upside down I guess.
if not for Derpy, I wouldn't even be considering this.
ReplyDeleteon the other hand, maybe strong dvd sales will convince Hasbro that season sets are a good idea
(it could happen!)
Got it for a friends birthday. :D
ReplyDeleteI will buy Pony DVDs when Hasbro releases them in a coherent manner. Season one 3-4 disks bonus points for faust interview and making of.
ReplyDelete@Kinrah
ReplyDeleteFear not, google "AnyDVD"
It's the only way well get the Brony box set down the line so Yeah I'll put my money down.
ReplyDeleteFinally! Finally they released a MLP set with Sheldon Cooper in mind.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful, truly.
I have never bought a box set in my life, but if season 1 came with a behind the scenes and interviews and season 2 had the production teams reaction to bronies... I'd be all over that :D
ReplyDeletePre-ordered a month ago ^_^
ReplyDeleteBTW, The Mystery Figure Case Pack is again in stock!
Don't forget, there's a free Pound Puppies extra on this! I'm sure that's the big seller here!
ReplyDelete@Twifight Sparkill
ReplyDeleteActually, I didn't think about this, but you have a point. Train sets have never been pushed as "little girl" toys in the past.
The way the train looks doesn't make it seem like they're going for the crossover into the little boys' demographic.
Of course it's been a long time since the 1980s when I was actually in this age bracket so maybe little girls are into trains these days and little boys are into pink hearts. Who knows?
I'm waiting for the Complete Season 1 on Blu-Ray.
ReplyDeletePlus, this has a SELECTION of episodes, they're not in order.
As soon as this shows up in stores I'm buying it. But Amazon? Nope. Not even if I had a credit card.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBought it just for Last Round up. Why? Because screw iTunes, that's why.
ReplyDeleteLol, I pre-ordered mine a month ago :D
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm with the "pre-ordered a month ago" crowd. I'm hoping if we get enough Bronies to buy this, they'll see how well DVD releases can sell, and eventually get us a box set! Same reason I bought the Target "Celebration at Canterlot" DVD. Trying to support the episodes where I can, because I really don't want to use iTunes for my ponies...
ReplyDeleteWell I'm sold. The Last Roundup is a definite deal-breaker. Also, this whole DVD is something you could show a non-brony and possibly make them one. I mean come one, the first two episodes, which are enough on their own, but if that's still not enough, you have Over a Barrel which has a war in it (albeit with pies; still awesome), Hearth's Warming Eve, which tells the awesome origins of Equestria, and The Last Roundup, which even without Derpy is a great episode in itself, full of references.
ReplyDelete@Kagemaru6613
ReplyDeleteWait, wut?
No Derpy?!
Blasphemy!
Next the region 2 DVD please :D
ReplyDeleteFrom Amazon website:
ReplyDelete"Actors: Tara Strong, Ashleigh Ball, Tabitha St. Germain"
Wait, someone's definitely missing here...
Lazy cover. They should've held an artist competition and have us create tons of cover art submissions which they then would've chosen the best one among all the amazing entries we could've made.
ReplyDelete@Pele2048
ReplyDeleteCool your jets. Derpy's in the episode, this has been confirmed back when the pie fight over Derpy began a couple weeks ago.
I've had this on pre-order since the first time EQ posted about these DVDs. Let's hope our orders show Hasbro/whoever that season dvds would be a good thing!
ReplyDeleteBeing a Canadian brony and thus sadly limited in my itunes purchases I am rather tempted to pick this up but i think instead I'll write Hasbro a polite letter asking for season dvds instead.
ReplyDeleteThat or for them to work out the licensing issues and let me buy them on itunes (or better yet) amazon's digital download service.
So.. it's the episodes that have transport only? I'm not sure if that's clever or not.
ReplyDelete@GuerreroPerdido The next one's called 'FriendShip in a Bottle', which is a tie-in with the forthcoming MLP-branded Sarsaparilla drink. It will consist entirely of episodes that use limited cast and backdrops to save money.
ReplyDeleteI pre-ordered this when I found out the Derpy episode was left untouched. Which is also the reason why I think they took it off iTunes, to get people to by the DVD.
ReplyDeleteThere are 3 reasons why I am going to buy this DVD.
ReplyDelete1. To make them consider to make a Box set of the seasons.
2. To support Derpy
3. Because screw Itunes. :)
They should just kill DVD releases. All I see in this thread is complaints for one reason or another. How about a little support and excitement for the show? We've had quite a few articles on whether it be iTunes releases or DVD releases, and it's the same conversation every time. We get it!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I was hoping to come into this thread saying "$10 is an awesome deal. Thank Amazon!" and being glad the DVD is only weeks away, but apparently this thread is for grievances. And that's mine.
Also, the fact that gave us the Derpy episode on the DVD should be seen as fanservice and someone at Hasbro, DHX Media, and/or Shout! Factory looking out for us.
Awesome but I am going to stick with my original statement still. I want a complete season. Because if that one does come out someday this on will be useless. Like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles dvd's all over again
ReplyDeleteHmm... Amazon.ca is way behind on that, it uses the 'Ponyville Chronicles' designation, but uses the 'Friendship Express' boxart, and costs $15...
ReplyDeleteI live in Canada, does that mean im forced to make an account on Amazon.ca? Ordering it from Amazon.com would be much better, but I could be told to order from .ca instead, hmm...
For those living in non-Region 1 areas and who operate actual DVD players, you might want to check out this site: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
ReplyDeleteMost DVD players are encoded with the ability to change the region coding, but seeing as this is technically not supposed to be possible, you won't find the info in any user manual. But the above site has hacking codes and instructions to make your player region free. I did that on my machine and it was as easy as turning the lights on. Just do a search for your make and model and see what you find.
@Sothalic
ReplyDelete"Hmm... Amazon.ca is way behind on that, it uses the 'Ponyville Chronicles' designation, but uses the 'Friendship Express' boxart, and costs $15..."
That's OK. Last week they were calling it "My Little Pony: Friendship & Express".
"I live in Canada, does that mean im forced to make an account on Amazon.ca? Ordering it from Amazon.com would be much better, but I could be told to order from .ca instead, hmm..."
Even if you can, the difference in shipping will probably make it not worth it.
@Shiranai
ReplyDeleteI wonder how my brother would have responded if I got the train stuff Christmas morning and he got the baby that wets herself? Ah! Time breaks some pretty strong barriers!
Why can't I make HTML tags that work? Curse you, world!
naw i cant wait to get this dvd :) if everyone buys one they might be more likely to make a season 1 set :)
ReplyDeleteOur FIRST DVD release of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic!!!! YES!!! But NO BLU-RAY RELEASE??? Darn.
ReplyDeleteFuckin' sold.
ReplyDeleteIf they get decent DVD sales, maybe we'll see more in the future... possibly even a proper season pack! (Okay, wishful thinking.)
If only they would make a Box Set of Season 1.
ReplyDeleteThis has The Last Roundup?
ReplyDeleteArguably better than iTunes on this front.
I have had this on pre-order since November.
ReplyDeleteBuy this naow, since it has Derpy!!!
The MORE of these individual DVDs end up selling, the higher the likelihood of Shout Media deciding there IS a market for a Box set. I'm tempted to buy 2 now,a nd give one to my brother and his kids... Imagine that... Me buying DVDs of My Little Pony for kids...
...

You all NEED to understand the following...
1: Hasbro does not have a direct say in the release of box sets. They negotiated a contract with Shout Media to release DVDs, SHOUT MEDIA has the final say in whether they release, since if they deem the market to be insufficient to support a release, they won't do it... or they might lose money.
2: Shout Media uses the sale of individual DVDs to determine if the market exists for larger releases. They ARE aware of the Brony community. They are NOT CONVINCED that our size warrants a DVD Season box set release, so they are continuing with individual disc releases for the time being.
3: IF, and ONLY IF, sales of the individual discs skyrocket, then they will consider box sets.
4: If you want a box set, you must show that the individual discs can sell... And yes, that means wasting some money. It means buying episodes piecemeal, out of order... and you might even pay for the same episode twice. You CERTAINLY will pay twice if they ever release the box sets, but that's the price it takes to get box sets.
5: Box sets WILL BE BASIC, unless sales of the individual DVDs are MIND BLOWING. This is not a movie release that had 200 million in box office sales. This is a company with a license to distribute Hasbro's works. If Hasbro sells a boatload of toys, it means NOTHING to Shout... The only profit Shout gets is their DVD sales. Support Shout, get pony.
6: I shall repeat myself... Support Shout, get pony.
7: ???
8: PONIES
They need blu ray box set. DVDs have such low video quality compared to whats already available itunes, and 1080p original airing.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to have a physical copy of the episodes but DVDs just don't cut it since we have HDTVs now. If they didn't look terrible when you watched it might be ok.
@AllisZero
ReplyDeleteThis made my day! LOL
Sheldon obviously made Leonard drive him all the way across town to buy 8 Friendship Express sets so he could make an elaborately massive layout with all the track and track down all the themed train cars!
The best gauge is clearly PONY gauge!

ReplyDelete@ijustwanttopost
I have YET to find the Chronicles DVD... The one with Sonic Rainboom and Cutiemark Chronicles. Truth is... I heard about it on EqD, and NEVER SAW IT available anywhere. Does ANYONE know what the deal was with that disc?
I really wanted to buy it, and NOT used, so I could bump total DVD sales to Shout. I just can't find any trace of it though.
But I just don't know what went wrong?
DVD box set? Why not blue ray, Blue ray players are common place now.
ReplyDeleteOr at least include a code that will allow you to get the HD epsodes off iTunes.
Hey guys
ReplyDeleteNot everyone owns a blu-ray player
To the bronies out here screaming for others not to buy the DVD... shut up. Don't screw this up for the rest of us. If this DVD and others sell poorly, you can kiss any chance of a season DVD being released goodbye.
ReplyDeleteI'll gladly throw down a measly $10 for a stocking stuffer. Possibly even two. Get off your high horse and stop trying to spread the ignorance all around with your meritless crying and pouting. Thank you.
I already ordered my copy a week ago. c: Just five episodes but for ten bucks, HELL YEAH to having an actual physical disc. Shun the neigh-sayers, it's just ten bucks for a nice little novelty and support for the creators of the show.
ReplyDeleteBuck that, us Australian Brony's don't get this not to mention custom's keep their damn god-picking hands on our stuff that we pay for fair and sqaure
ReplyDeleteIt's been on Sale for awhile, I got on that deal once I heard The Last Round Up was no longer available on iTunes.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of Itunes buys so I am all over this, but they really really really need to make a Blu ray, and plushies..... Just saying. :)

ReplyDeleteErr... so I'm tempted to pre-order this to support the show and increase the odds of a boxed set release at some point in the future but... The Amazon page claims that the format is FULLSCREEN, not widescreen. Please, somepony tell me that's a typo?
ReplyDelete@Pav Feira It's a typo, me. Have some copypasta.
ReplyDelete----
Hello Pav,
We caught that error on Amazon a few days ago. Its in Anamorphic Widescreen. Amazon should have it corrected by tomorrow.
Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for the inquiry!
