Shout Factory has given us a few Friendship Express DVD's to give out for their big release on the 28th of February, so what better way to distribute them than a good old fashioned contest.
Due to the recent awesomeness of the felt ponies in the most recent episode, and Pixelkitties inspiring us with that amazing banner, we have decided on dedicating the event specifically to that!
They also gave us an exclusive promo clip for it after the break similar to the other ones that have been floating around the internet. They have assigned EQD Pinkie Pie clop: first ambassador of smiles, because she is awesome.
Here's how it works:
Create a pony scene out of construction paper or actual felt. It cannot be digital, you must use physical materials. You can either do it out of a scene from the show, or from your own imagination.
How do I submit?
Similar to the Equestrian Mock War Training Grounds, we will be using the Submission Page template for all entries.
Follow these simple steps:
1.) Upload your image somewhere, be it Deviant Art, Imageshack, Livejournal, Facebook, or whatever.
2.) Grab the URL of the image. (It MUST end in a file extention - examples: .png, .jpg, it will not work otherwise) (TUTORIAL BELOW for Chrome/Firefox)
3.) Visit the submission page. Fill out all relevant information.
4.) The winners will be asked to take a physical picture of it being held up (to make sure it's not digital, so have a camera ready!)
How do I win/What is the deadline?
Sadly time constraints aren't allowing us to really do anything in depth with polls and such here, so the winners will be chosen by a panel of judges.
The final date will be Sunday February 26th at 11:59PM. We will not be able to take late entries, so make sure you get them in before this time!
The winners will be chosen and posted the following day. You will be required to send us a picture of you (Your hands work) holding your physical copy of your submission for verification, your entry doesn't need to be in this format though.
If you have any trouble getting it to work, send an email to Sethisto@gmail.com and I will attempt to help you when I find time.
Again, try to use the tutorials after the break! They explain it in depth!
What are the Prizes?
First place will recieve 1 DVD + 1 My Little Pony Friendship Express Train Set + 1 My Little Pony 11x17 Poster
Good luck everyone! And again, hit up after the break for tutorials on image capturing and submissions, as well as our Pinkie Pie teaser.
Exclusive Pinkie Pie Clip for EQD!
Looks like they buried it, have an image explanation:

I felt this one coming.
ReplyDeleteThis is cool. I only wish I had the talent for it. Also 1ST.
ReplyDeleteNinja'd
ReplyDeletelol awesome
ReplyDeleteI have the sudden urge to buy lots and lots of felt...
ReplyDelete@hawkfur34
ReplyDeleteThat pun hurt.
Neato.... how many are given away? Just wondering if I have any chance at all :P
ReplyDelete@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeleteIt did seem overly fabricated.
That's a pretty neat. I'm always fond of traditional arts.
ReplyDelete@hawkfur34 I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE! xD
ReplyDelete@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeletenot enough softener?
@Lolly
ReplyDeleteAt least hawkfur34 was first I wont cut you any slack.

Sweet. Looks like a contest I'll need to enter!
ReplyDeleteso want to partake in this but i would feel bad if i won since i already have the dvd preordered. what should i do...
ReplyDeleteTip: in Internet Explorer you can right click an image and view image properties. From the box that pops up, you can copy the link to the image by highlighting it and using Ctrl + C.
ReplyDeleteThen, consider switching to Chrome (or Firefox). ;)
@Sethisto The img url on Internet Explorer cen be found in the properties
ReplyDelete@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeletelayering is often used in sewing!
@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeleteOh don't needle me so.
I'm a-frayed that I can't cotton to these puns.
ReplyDeleteUgh the puns, the puns, they burn! I can't wait to see what people come up with. Someone should just go all out and make a stop motion scene using felt.
ReplyDelete@Lolly&hawkfur34
ReplyDeleteWell aren't you two just so crafty?
I have a question! is needle-felting allowed, or is it cut-out only?
ReplyDeleteAlso should ask if visible stitches are allowed, or if things have to be glued into place?
@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeleteleaned it though my sewing grandma!
@OtterMatt
ReplyDeletePuns never hurt anyone. Not like anyone will dye.
Oh my goodness! You guys and your puns up there. xD
ReplyDeleteOf course, the "judges" are likely to be either a few from EqD here and/or a few close friends. lol
It's still a fun contest regardless and breaks away a bit from the usual art contests we see.
@hawkfur34
ReplyDeleteMy grandma knits. There must be a patter cuse ma mother does too.
Hay look, its Derpy's birth!
ReplyDelete@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeleteAnypony willing to help find my "n"?
@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeleteIts quite soothing. Why dont you learn it?
@Octavia
ReplyDeleteWe shear do try.
Ffffff
ReplyDeleteArt. Darn. I hope someone does something amazing, because this looks like it could be really cool.
I am going to give this a try, although I may be terrible at it.
ReplyDelete@hawkfur34
ReplyDeleteI thought about it. No reason I shouldn't.
I do not have the resources for this.
ReplyDeleteBut if I get inspiration for something amazing that I think will win this contest, I will run all over town until I find some construction paper and glue.
yay!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping something like this would happen since I loved that scene. I wonder if someone might do a full animation?
@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeletethen go for it! you have my support!
@hawkfur34
ReplyDeleteThanks xD, if I do I can add it to the list of things ponies have gotten me into. lol
That clip from the first episode...
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who preferred it when Twilight first moved to ponyville?
@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeleteThat brought a smile to my face.
Glad I could help!
You derped by the way.
ReplyDeleteOpera is best browser, not Chrome or Firefox.
(And yes, I have experience with all 5 of the mane ones.)
Oh gosh! I helped inspire a contest! SQUEE!!! Good luck everyone!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to take part in this. Sadly I wouldn't be able to use the DVDs anyway, darn region locking. Don't really want to go to all the bother of unlocking them.
ReplyDeleteCompetion are like competitions, only shorter.
ReplyDeleteThis contest gives warm fuzzies, but I don't think I'm cut out for it.
ReplyDeleteDue by 11:59 PM, but what timezone?
ReplyDeleteDoes Pixelkitties automatically win something for the awesome banner in the first place?
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one, or did anyone else notice that Rainbow Dash is missing her cutie mark on the front of the Friendship express DVD? O.O
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThese PUNS
ReplyDeleteTHESE PUNS!!!!
lol They make me feel warm and fuzzy...
I'm not very artistic, but man to do I want that friendship express train set. I don't know why, I just do.
ReplyDeleteBut what fit of madness caused somepony to have Pinkie driving it!? Is it, is it some kind of insurance scheme concocted by Flim and Flam?
Rainbow Dash appears to be a blank-flank.
ReplyDelete@_OJ_
ReplyDeleteI actually commented and agreed/disagreed with a few things you said there but you removed it? You think you're 100% right, one of THOSE people huh? Whatever. It's nice to share you're OPINION, it's not fact and you won't even let anyone comment.
can you elaborate on the rules? I mean is it limited only to felt and construction paper to the point that every line and dot must be a cut out, or can we use a pen for lines or air brush for shading?
ReplyDeleteI think that there should be an animation competition someday.
ReplyDeleteO.J., every fandom is made up of all kinds of people; they're not clones of one another. Respecting individuals and their differences is supposed to be what MLP:FiM is all about. Love and tolerate, dude; love and tolerate.
ReplyDeleteAs for people being deeply affected by the show...I don't get why you're so troubled by that. People are deeply affected by books, by music, by art, by dance, and yes, by cartoons; many a person has been affected, and very positively so, by the works of Walt Disney, which is why his works have stood the test of time. Touching and transfiguring people is what the best of all art forms do. That's what they're FOR. MLP:FiM is doing that for a lot of people. Other people might just see it as an entertaining cartoon. That's their right. If that's how you see it, fine; you won't hear me telling YOU to "rein it in". BTW, I'm not a brony because I'm not much of a joiner. I just like good cartoons, and to me, MLP:FiM is one of those very rare TV toons that go beyond what's expected and gives much more than it's required to. I celebrate that. I hope my patronage helps encourage that. You should celebrate and encourage that too, if you have any fondness for the show at all.
Peace out.
Jokes on your guys, I already got a head start with felt-twilight-sparkle.tumblr.com !
ReplyDeletePre-ordered months ago
ReplyDelete@_OJ_ Somebody sounds butthurt. What crawled up your flank? or maybe u just trollin. Either way, if we creep you out, GTFO. Pretty simple.
ReplyDeletePre-ordered months ago
ReplyDeleteI wish the DVD will be sold in the Scandinavian stores too.
ReplyDeleteNO NO NO! Do not right click on the image and copy url for Deviantart. That will give you the resized version. What you want to do is open the "download image" link in a new tab (either by middle click, or right click -> open in new tab). That will give you the URL for the full size version.
ReplyDelete@hawkfur34
ReplyDelete*Cue Pinkie on the drums with a rimshot*
Is that 11:59 blog time or another time zone?
ReplyDeleteI would hate to be fidling around with a scrap of construction paper to make sure my entry is perfect and then find out that submitting ended 2 hours ago.
Oh thank God! Since the plush ponies I make are from felt, I really didn't want to cut up lots of little pieces I couldn't reuse, but yay construction paper!
ReplyDeleteTotally getting in on this. I want that DVD so hard.<3
hey do they ship in EU?
ReplyDelete>They have assigned EQD Pinkie Pie clop
ReplyDelete>Pinkie Pie clop
>clop
Really? o.o
@BZKlint
ReplyDeletePixelkitties won the opportunity to inspire an AWESOME contest, and I get to help pick the winner. That's all I need! =D SO SWEET!
Besides, I own the DVD and Train already, so I'm good!
May the best pony win!!
ReplyDelete@hawkfur34 oh you clever... I felt that pun like a stake through the heart...
ReplyDeleteBought a ton of felt....forgot i dont have an actual camera v_v
ReplyDelete.gif file ok?
ReplyDeleteI'll go and buy all the felt I can carry.
ReplyDeleteCan I use flat foam instead? I have that already, have no felt or construction paper,and it would turn out about the same.
ReplyDeleteYESH I KNoW WHAT THIS BRONY IS GOING TO DO
ReplyDeleteGOOD LUCK EVERY ONE AND MAY THE BEST PONY WIN
ReplyDeleteI AM ABOUT TO BE BRILLIANT
ReplyDeletehopefully if i dont win the sell the dvd here in canada
ReplyDelete2 DAYS man thats not much time better get to work
ReplyDeleteIf only i had the talent to draw. Though I'm a good writer, most of all my brony friends are excellent artists. And so I strongly envy them. But sincerely, if I had the skill, I would certainly participate.
ReplyDeleteAh, now I have something to do this weekend. And to think I was just going to wallow in the mire that is my house for two days.
ReplyDeleteAre we permitted to submit multiple entries?
ReplyDeleteI have a question
ReplyDeleteSince we weren't required to include contact information, how do you plan on contacting the winners to notify them that they won?
Scuse me, I haven't entered a ad contest before

ReplyDeleteWow... "HMM, THAT FELT CONTEST... I DON'T THINK I SAW THE DATE WHEN IT WAS FIRST UP, LEMME CHECK WHEN IT'S OVER SO I DON'T MISS THE DEADLINE..."
ReplyDeleteSunday, February 26th at 11:59PM
"Hm... *checks the date*"
".......................... Sunday, February 26th, 1:26AM..................."
I just had a sad.
I could've done wonders with that felt. Now I can only pray that the deadline is extended.
@hawkfur34 Wow. That was possibly the worst joke I have ever heard. But I laughed anyway!
ReplyDelete@DJ Thop
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering the same thing! I entered but it just occurred to me that I didn't have to give an email address or anything else in the entry. The picture is on my DA account so it would be easy to contact me there if I happen to win something, but that seems a very round about way of doing it.
when i first saw this i FELT like i had a chance, but now that i think about it... i suck and im probably going to get STICHED over at this competition
ReplyDeleteI hope the submission thing took my animated gif and didnt just turn it into the first frame of my gif. I spent hours cutting everything then moving them inch by inch to create a stop motion animation.
ReplyDeleteLuna, your mane is officially ridiculous. Seriously. I screwed up one mane trying to have the sprig over the horn not poke out of the mane itself, but then I had to change it so that it pokes out.
ReplyDeleteWhy I decided to do four Lunas I will never know.
I ran out of time. Darn my working on weekends. Can't wait to see the great entries though.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad I would have looked sooner but I didn't feel like it, but now it's over and I can't enter. :(
