That right there was my face after watching this glorious episode. Seriously, this is butting heads with Lesson Zero as my favorite of the season. Daring-Do is best pony all years.
Lets get some followup going! Everything can be found after the break.
First off, I'm just going to get it out of the way right now...
Rainbow Dash makes me use the word "cute" WAY more than I would have been comfortable with pre-pony. She just... keeps... doing it. She may be a Trixie level narcissist, but those facial expressions and big violet eyes make it impossible to hate her.
She's almost neck-and-neck with Twilight Sparkle for "mares I want to read books with."
Though she does pull off some strange faces sometimes!
But enough about Dash! Lets talk about Daring-Do! It's pretty obvious early on that she is a projection of Rainbow herself. She makes Indiana Jones look like a novice!
Daring-Do also has an excellent color combo. I wish I could hire someone from the studio to paint that OC pony of mine. Guess I'm stuck with those ridiculous yellows and reds for now...
Someone in our Skype channel mentioned how well done the action sequences are in this episode, and I can't agree more. If there's one thing I like more than seeing everypony lose their minds, it's ACTION.
Also, ponies confirmed for having jaws of STEEL. I wish I could do that...
We also met a new villain in this episode. Some of you may be wondering where the hell they came up with a creature like this. Well it looks like they actually do have a place in mythology. Check out this quote from the Wiki entry:
It was described as dog-like, with hands capable of manipulation and an additional hand on its tail. The ahuizotl was feared due to its liking for human flesh, especially nails, eyes, and teeth. It was said to live in or near the water and uses the hand on the end of its tail to snatch its prey.Ahuizotl's confirmed for creepy as hell. Good thing this one didn't seem to like hooves much, because he pulled your classic villain formula and left Daring-Do for the snakes instead!
And we can't forget about the new ponies! The doctor was probably the most prevalent one. Ponyville sure does have a robust healthcare sector. Too bad they boot you the second you're anywhere near recovery!
We also have a new addition to the Screw family. I really hope we get an episode dedicated to her and Screwball in the future! Have a video to celebrate.
Because we, as pony fans, need to dig into absolutely everything, someone brought up that this book in Dash's pile (Daring-Do and the Griffon's Goblet) actually has it's very own cover. Sadly the only image we have of it is here:
I'm sure you crazy vector artists out there can build something out of it! Get on it! (Thanks to Kinrah for that one.)
I said it up above, and I'll say it again. This episode was awesome. It really did have everything.
Hopefully you guys like the new banner up there! When we saw Equestria Prevails bust out that excellent vector, we knew we had to do something with it. Or at least Cereal did. Dude is pretty skilled when motivated by something this epic.
And as is the norm, I leave you with some videos! Enjoy!
The Quest for the Sapphire Stone (Story Only Video)
Reading Rainbow Dash (Yeah, that wasn't inevitable)
AND MORE DASH CUTE. I don't even care if it breaks the side bar!

Best episode!
VastaKustutaThat leg wiggle needs to be added to the epic leg wiggle video ASAP.
VastaKustutaBOOKS <3
VastaKustutaThis was a very good episode. Reading Dash is best Dash.
VastaKustutaNow, please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the kitten mixed in with the big cats the same kitten Dash rejected in "May The Best Pet Win"?
VastaKustutaAnd, as I always do because I love you guys beyond reason, here's my review of the episode!
VastaKustutahttp://awthredestim.blogspot.com/2012/02/my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-read.html
I hope you guys enjoy it, and let me know what you think of it and of the episode in the comments. Thank you!!!
This episode gave me far too many feels. I demand more adorable Dash in the future.
VastaKustutathe episode was the best ever!
VastaKustutaHow many times did people say "Rainbow Dash" in that episode? Everyone speaking to her used her whole name, over and over. It drove me nuts.. If there was a drinking game around it, it would kill people from alcohol poisoning.
VastaKustutaYay
VastaKustutaomg that last picture: AWESOME :D
VastaKustutaSo glad there's a GIF of that, as you said, Dash manages to be "cute" far too much for her own good!
VastaKustutai still waiting to see if anypony tries and claims the 'Daring-Do' fanfic author title.
VastaKustutaWas actually a really good episode, i'm not a huge fan of RD. But with episodes like this one she just might grow on me.
VastaKustutaI'll say it again, the doctor's name should be Dr. Cardio.
VastaKustutaEpic leg wiggle over shadows the fact that this is the first time we see her bedroom. Fair enough. :)
VastaKustutaAlso, forgot to say that, Rainbow Dash isn't my favorite of the 6 but I do say she is growing on me. I thought this was a well rounded episode with lots of twists I didn't expect.
VastaKustutaSeth, why didn't you mention the obvious lil filly nurse that jumped out of nowhere in the hospital ninja scene?
Somehow I also feel I need Rainbowdash bouncing the ball off the wall to the great escape theme.
VastaKustutaThat Reading Rainbow PMV just reminds me how awesome that theme song is, I kind of wish there was a "Full Song" version of it.
VastaKustutaAlso, her eyes look HUGE in the sneaking costume, bigger than usual!
And you thought last week's episode was chock-full of great expressions from Rainbow, heh, see what happens when she actually forces herself to make these? Epicness!
VastaKustutaIve said it many times and ill say it again: This was the redeeming episode she needed to stop being so obnoxiously self-centered after all these episodes in which her personality regressed. Let's hope the lesson sticks this time around, her character development is truly heading the right way!
No Derpy?
VastaKustutaBucking awesome!
VastaKustutaLooking back on The Mysterious Mare Do Well, given how accident prone Ponyville is, especially without Rainbow Dash to save everyone, I wouldn't be surprised they rush ponies out the door the moment they can. They need to make room for the next batch of injuries.
VastaKustutaAnd we've also learned this episode that Twilight really needs to learn how to organize her books better. I mean, she gives Rainbow the first book in the series and it's clearly the third book on the shelf.
VastaKustutaDefiantly one of my favorite episodes.
VastaKustutaThis is definitely going down into my list of favourite episodes. Also. I wonder how long it'll take for the poor EqD pre-readers to be flooded with Daring Do stories.
VastaKustuta(also, was I the only one that thought RD's spy suit was hilarious, what with her brightly-coloured and instantly recognizable tail sticking out as a giant look-at-me beacon)
... So does this mean that Rainbow-Dash-breaks-her-wings fics are now unbanned again? :p
Excellent, Excellent episode. As I said during it's discussion, this makes me wonder if Hasbro and Studio B are experimenting with what a boy aimed pony show/franchise might look like.
VastaKustutaAnd I really liked the Daring Do stuff. That villain design is so good it's a shame he has to be limited to "story within the story" status, because if he officially existed, he could probably Rival Discord as fan favorite love to hate them villains.
I want more Daring Do adventures! luckily, that's what FiM's amazingly robust fandom is for!
I absolutely loved the subtle film effect they used during the Daring Do sections. It has just a touch of film grain, a narrower aspect ratio, and a bit of color bleeding as if it was being played on a projector. It's those kind of completely unnecessary but awesome little touches that raise this show from just good animation to great animation.
VastaKustutaWow, so there is people liking this episode THAT much? Well, I guess we can't always have the same opinions, but I thought this was just an okay episode...
VastaKustutaYay for Obscure mythology references you guys can't imagine my face when Ahuizotl was onscreen
VastaKustuta@Floof Cat
VastaKustutaIt was indeed.
Why do some people dismiss the Reading Rainbow comparison?
VastaKustutaIt's not just some lame joke, yesterday's episode was about love of reading, it'd fit perfectly with Reading Rainbow even if it was called something else.
@NTL
VastaKustutaI think the fanon has already come to the consensus that "Saphire Stone" was the first Daring Do book published, but that prequels we're written in later. (keep in mind, Temple of Doom was technically a Prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark.)
And yes, Twilight puts the prequels on the shelf first but still thinks Saphire Stone is the best entry point into the series.
You are now aware that this could be depicted as a Reading Rainbow reference.
VastaKustutaYou forgot the fact that it has also reference to original Neverending Story there
VastaKustuta(also i want a .gif of Dash bouncing that ball in her hospital bedroom)
Will Seth ever shut up about his opinions?
VastaKustuta@NTL
VastaKustutaThere's already half a billion possible explanations on TVTropes.
... Maybe she just has them sorted alphabetically, though.
@Mr.Anonymous
VastaKustutaIf he does, I, for one, will be a very sad pony.
Another ducktales spinoff

As someone already said in the Youtube comments:
VastaKustutaReading Rainbow would have been a great episode title!
I'm guessing this episode never sees the light of day on iTunes because of the barking pony that is told to go back to the hospital...
VastaKustutaAhuizotl...before I found out what he actually was, I was calling him Al Risotto.
VastaKustutaI also think the doctor had a great voice and possibly the same VA as the pediatrician from Secret of my Excess.
Did anyone else notice the background static during the Daring Do scenes?
VastaKustutaYou're all missing the point!
VastaKustutaThis is the second time we saw a pony with a pith helmet! (The one that looks almost exactly the same as Twilights by chance?)
Darkon Shadows, pointing out the intricacies of unimportant facts.
Am I the only one who didn't really care for it? I mean, yeah the premise is good, but there was just something... off about it. For instance, one of the smaller things was that sometimes the synching of the characters and their voices was off. Another thing was just the execution. There were plenty of moments where it just seemed like the animators weren't really trying. There were just some instances where it seemed like things could've been done differently. And that's another thing: RD was too cute. I know that seems weird but she isn't the cute one of the 6. Maybe it's just me, but this is going up there with Mare Do Well and Griffon the Brush Off as episodes I don't like.
VastaKustuta@James Corck Thank you, kind sir.
VastaKustuta@D. Shadows
VastaKustutaWe need a ponified Van Pelt.
@Angrim
VastaKustuta*brohoofs*

You forgot to mention the Battleship reference in the episode, cross overs of Hasbro products.
VastaKustutaCould it be that the book image is Derpy?
VastaKustutaI can't be the only one waiting for someone to start writing the Daring-Do fanfics can I?
VastaKustutaTo deal with a few issues, the whole first story in a series but third on the self could be prequels, or the same book but with different covers(looking at a still frame, it really looks like it has the same title, but the picture is certainly different.) I really liked Ahuizotl. Although I am sorta not liking that all of the Daring Do stuff is a story, I never remember anypony saying it was a fictional book series, though I could be wrong.
VastaKustutaDoes anyone else see a bit of Castlevania with the flying battle axes and their arcing pattern.
VastaKustuta@Corey
VastaKustutaI know right? I kept thinking "people are up in arms over Derpy, and they through in crazy barking pony? geez..."
I'm having this sinking feeling that years from now "Last Round up" and "Read it and Weap" will be considered the show's "Lost episodes..."
'Screw Loose' for best barking pony!
VastaKustuta@Link245
VastaKustutaThat about summed it up for me. Although Mare Do Well was pretty good.
This episode really reminded me just how gender-neutral this show is. Fora 22 minute story about a rainbow colored pony there was absolutely nothing girly in this episode.
VastaKustutaI'm more interested in the design on her sheets.
VastaKustutaSeriously, what is that?
I love reading these followups. It's the next best thing to watching the episodes with a room full of Bronies. :D
VastaKustutaSeth no make Indiana Jones look like a novice, He killed a tank single handed. But Daring-do is awesome.
VastaKustuta@Scott_Lochmoeller
VastaKustutaI have yet to see any concrete evidence that anyone is "up in arms" over Derpy. Certainly, her name's return to Welovefine and The Last Roundup's prominent (and recent) appearance on the official My Little Pony site are signs that she is here to stay.
aw, thought this would be mentioned:
VastaKustutaBroken bone clearly seen in x-ray
recovery time? a couple days.
Equestria must have some pretty damn good health care!
I find it cool how this shows delves into mythology for its creatures, not just the obvious ones like dragons and hydra, but the less obvious ones like the Windigos and now Ahuizotl. It shows the creativity and intellectual depth of the team and this show.
VastaKustutaI am sorry, but as soon as you called Indiana Jones an amateur, my blood started to boil. Nobody, I repeat, NOBODY disses Dr. Jones!
VastaKustutaIn all seriousness now, it wasn't a bad episode, but not great either. I found it predictable, conforming to the typical "read a book" and "Jones parody" formulas you see in cartoons all the time.
Slow down a moment, it looks like we were all misspelling Darane-do's name. Pause the reading rainbow video right at the cover of the pook and look how her name is spelled.
VastaKustutaI now have a Leg wiggle fetish. What?
VastaKustutaI enjoyed the episode, will not one of my favourites it was pretty solid. Daring Do was great and looking forward to seeing the fics on her adventures soon.
VastaKustutaWas this the first time we've saw Dash's house?
VastaKustutaSo does this mean no one else noticed that one of the nurses had Screwball's color scheme?
VastaKustuta@Masquerade
VastaKustuta"Screw Loose" is a bit too similar to Screwball. I prefer Looney, what with the belief that the full moon causes insanity. I also suggested Nut Job, Mania (or Manic), and I've heard somepony else call her Barking Mad.
@Adamanttg
VastaKustutaWe saw the outside in Griffon the Brush Off, and bothe the inside and outside in Swarm of the Century, but it's appearance seems to change every time it's shown. In Swarm of the Century, Dash was sleeping on a cloud in the shape of a bed, be here she had an actual bed.
Nothing about the doctor pony who's probably Diamond Tiara's mom?
VastaKustutaAlso, Daring Do is best pony.
@Jacob H Johnson
VastaKustutaThe thing I found while looking at the covers; the one behind the copy that Twilight pulls off her shelf has a different cover with just Daring, and of course Griffon's Goblet as I proved above, but the others are just the same and flipped versions of Sapphire Stone's cover.
That said, all of them have the same title scroll.
@MyBoyJ
VastaKustutaShe's got a screw for a cutie mark. it just WORKS.
@MyBoyJ
VastaKustutaWe also saw the outside of Dash's house in Return of Harmony part 2.
While I still like Sonic Rainboom more, this is definitely the second best Rainbow Dash episode and also the second best episode of Season 2. Almost enough to compensate for Mare Do Well.
VastaKustuta@Link245:
VastaKustutaI'm glad I'm not the only one. There were a lot of things to like -- the action sequences, Screwloose up there -- but the whole thing was just meh and didn't hold together in my estimation. :/
Not to mention they couldn't get the subtitle of the book right: it started off as "And the Sapphire Stone", then she found the thing and called it the Sapphire Statue, after which Twilight referred to the subtitle as "And the Sapphire Statue". It's not an episode-ruiner, but come on! (Not to mention Sapphire Stone is a way better name anyway.)
This episode was definitely better than I had expected, particularly because of daring-do and the involvement of all of the mane 6.
VastaKustutaHowever, rainbow dash's anti-intellectualism made me dislike her a lot more than I already did...
But why did nobody notice the hilarious Pinkie-Scene at the beginning?
VastaKustutaMe: "Is she an owl?"
Pinkie: whirls her body around while her head is stuck in the air...
Was I the only one who was also was excited to see THE INSIDE ON DASH'S HOUSE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!? That was awesome :D
VastaKustutaAnd I now love the barking pony. Screwed Loose in an excellent name, though I have also heard the name Barking Mad also. HILARIOUS!
Great episode as always. A LOT could be said, but I'll just leave it at this:
MLP freaking awesome; Friendship is Magic
Dashie cute is BEST cute.
VastaKustutaRainbow Dash adorableness in this episode rivals Fluttershy...
VastaKustutaI was shocked...
Also, Rainbow Dash is best pony (This Week).
Guessing by the arrangement of Twi's shelf, there are 2 prequels to the Daring Do series!
VastaKustuta(I like to think one is of father's adventure)
This episode made me like Rainbow Dash. O_O
VastaKustutaKEEP AT IT, HASBRO.
@Ink
VastaKustutaWe saw the inside of Dash's house in Swarm of the Century.
Indiana Jones a novice my ass.
VastaKustutaI'm not even a huge fan of the series and having the Jones character having to do what he did in "Temple of Doom" is nothing "novice".
Again you make me seeth with rage when reading your comments.
...........ok not really.....but I still disagree ;p
(FYI TEMPLE OF DOOM IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL EFFING TIME)
I also gotta comment that this episode actually made me like RD a bit more. She's still my least fav tho ;p
VastaKustutaFor peoples amusement as to why I think Indiana Jone is cool.
VastaKustutahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3I_Ds2ytz4o
Seriously, he didn't need to go through your average long drawn out sword fight where he would win anyway. (The Mummy also does tombs and stuff but it's not as popular I guess.)
As for Screw Loose why don't we all just agree to call her 'Lucy' as a nickname? Lucy Screw... Screw Loose... agh this fandom it drives us to name unimportant ponies!
I keep saying it, I like Dr. Cardio as a name for the doctor pony. His cutie mark was an EKG (heart monitor) so I think it fits pretty well. What does everypony else think?
VastaKustutaRainbow Dash confirmed operative for the Dark Brotherhood.
VastaKustutaDat outfit /)^3^(\
@MyBoyJI think you're right, and "Lucy" Screw Loose is perfect for me...
VastaKustutaCoudn't agree with you more Seth on multiple things
VastaKustutaFirst I loved this episode because of the importance an....aw I just love Rainbow so much :)
But Im loving the fact I've noticed two things in season 2 that were ideas I've had. Especally since Daring Doo's hair color is what I was using for a new OC, pure coincidence.
The new villain was strange, when I first saw the statue I thought it was The Blue Jackal, and that he was a Jackal. Now I know they weren't.
The crazy one I'll go with Staright Jacket or Patient 36-6
And my heart failed at leg wiggle
*collapses on computor*
T'was an okay episode, but didn't have anything in it for me to say it's one of the best of the bunch. It was still entertaining and it was enjoyable to watch, but most of it centred around telling the Daring-Do adventure and having RD figure that she can actually enjoy reading a book. But it wasn't particularly deep when it came to actual character development, so that unfortunately leaves the episode a little too much on the lighter side. Still it was nice to see Dashie not being so obnoxiously unlikeable as in her past two personal episodes, so that was definitely a plus.
VastaKustutaThose being curious about the Daring Do series in Twilight's place. Here is a rather obvious answer that is being overlooked. Twilight moved into Ponyville's public library. Public libraries tend to have multiple copies of popular books. There could simply be 4 copies of the first book in the library.
VastaKustutaThat raises some other questions about what percent of the books were there first, and which Twilight actually owns or added.
It appears I've reached an impasse. I can't decide which is cuter fake sleeping dash or ninja dash. Either way a great ep with tons of hilarious references and some great scenes.
VastaKustutaI actually found this one to be rather average (it's not like MLP could ever make a BAD episode though). I have to say though: Ahuizotl is a BAMF.
VastaKustutaI like how Rainbow Dash imagines herself as Daring Do. It would have been funny to see a glimpse about how Twilight imagines the same character. Hopefully brony artists provide full cast reading Daring books.
VastaKustutaepic leg wiggle requires update
VastaKustuta@The Grey Potter
VastaKustutaMagic, obviously. The doctor was a unicorn, after all. It probably takes longer for bigger injuries; the more you're hurt, the longer the healing time.
I agree with Seth, this was one of my favorite episodes mainly because I <3 Indiana Jones. So many references to Indiana Jones I don't know what pop culture reference next.
VastaKustutaSo.. No mention of the mane-less cancer patient that took Rainbow's bed?
VastaKustutaI vote the new insane pony be named "Screw Loose"
VastaKustutaIt's perfect as her Cutie mark is even a screw :D
Indiana Jones parodies amongst mountains of other good stuff.
VastaKustuta...I think I'll make a pony mod for Spelunky...
...Does anyone know where I can get 8-bit poni sprites, like in the ponies javascript thing?
I don't know if anypony has mentioned it yet, but the presence of x-rays confirms that ponies use radioactive materials. The hazmat/radiation suits from Cutie Pox make more sense now.
VastaKustutaHowever, this begs the question, did they stop at x-rays? Does Equestria have a nuclear stockpile?
I'm joking about the nukes of course.
@commanche105996
VastaKustutaI've said it several times. He was not a cancer patient,he had a shaved head, you could still see his hairline. Hair follicles die from cancer treatment and would not be visible.
@commanche105996
VastaKustutaHe doesn't have cancer, he has canter.
Thank you, I'll be here all week; try the shrimp cocktail.
Anyone else absolutely love Daring Do's voice? <3
VastaKustuta"...make it impossible to hate her."
VastaKustuta*snort*
Episode about reading? I was ready to write this one off, but this was extremely enjoyable. I agree with Seth: Cute is not a word that SHOULD describe Rainbow Dash, but somehow it does. It does big time.
VastaKustutaObviously, the best part was the capture of the idol, where Daring Do's like "Forget this, just take the dang thing." Also, the spiked walls, spiders, snakes, AND quicksand? "Help! I'm trapped in a cliche!"
But going back to the cute thing, legwiggle.gif is hilarious, even if it does crash my computer occasionally. But briefly, let's discuss Rainbow's tail. Either she's really excited about reading, or she needs to invest in a different fabric softener.
I'm currently working on a snipped together version of the Daring Do story without Rainbow's narration, and adding the musical stylings of the absolutely most amazing incediawesome John Williams.
VastaKustutaI like that we now know what the inside of Dash's bedroom looks like...
VastaKustutaI never thought about it, but yeah, Rainbow Dash has SO MANY cute poses, not just in this episode, but in the show in general. She's just so adorable, despite her personality!
VastaKustuta@Frenchi
VastaKustutaThat sounded more than a little stalker-ish.
@Smashmatt202
VastaKustutaDashie's cute poses are the main reason she's my favorite pony.
How has no one mentioned this yet? The doctor looks EXACTLY like Caramel. They have to be twins, or something. And one of the nurses has the same mane as Twilight's mother.
VastaKustutaYou would think Dashie would have more Wonderbolts posters on her walls instead of just... Blankness
VastaKustuta@Solar Phoenix
VastaKustutaIf there twins I think Dr.Twix would be funny
Or Dr. Pep
@Solar Phoenix
VastaKustutaYou mean Dr. Cardio? (I figure if I keep saying that name it will stick)
You're right. He does look like Caramel, if Caramel was a unicorn and didn't keep losing the grass seeds.
Awesome episode as usual and just one more to love and enjoy FOREVEEEERRRRRR ! ! ! I loved how, despite the character looking similar to Rainbow, she had a completely different voice. What is even NEATER is the fact that I think it is Spitfire's voice. Daring-Do, as a character, is effectively the product of Rainbow Dash's self image mixed with her life long idol. I could be mistaken though, I can't find a list of the VAs for the episode.
VastaKustutaDash is not one of my favorites but thought this episode was great. I have right in the middle for the episodes so far this season (and yes I do keep a list).
VastaKustutaI was disappointed because of a lack of Reading Rainbow references, but that would have just been a cherry on top of an ice cream sundae. It was another solid episode that I think really references the older fandom as a whole.
VastaKustutaTwo things:
VastaKustuta1) Since when RD's eyes are violet? I'm also a man and can generally tell the difference only between yellow and red but if that's violet, then I'm a little green man :P
2) 3/4 of the episode was boring. Seriously. If someone is not a fan of Indiana Jones type of stories, then this should not be an episode used for conversion purposes. Facial expressions/poses? Yes. Several fantastic puns? Yes - especially the barking pony. Episodes of bad voice acting? Unfortunately, yes (sorry, ms Ball; I'm a great fan but there were bad moments this time). And those cats with weapons in teeth...
3/10 PSA (Pony Scale of Awesomeness). Baby Cakes scored 8/10 and Roundup 9/10 so two a little worse episodes now just upheld the "one worse, one better" tradition :P The upcoming one should be fantastic!
(PS. I sometimes get an impression that most people here would love even an episode based on the 2girls1cup video)
Daring-Do reminds me of Harmony from the End of Ponies fic.
VastaKustuta@Mike
VastaKustutaOk fine, I'll find a way to do it myself.
lol, You know you're forever alone when not even bronies will talk to you.
im not saying it was a bad episode, im just saying it isn't in my top favorites.
VastaKustutai dont know it just doesn't connect to me all that well...
there were some funny parts and i did like the action but I just feel its not quite there for me.
maybe its too much rainbow dash this season or something.
@Mike
VastaKustutaYou could probably get 8-bit sprites from the Desktop Ponies program.
@MyBoyJ
VastaKustutaThanks! I'll get right to it then.
Im reminded of the Pony Anthology where is goes,
VastaKustuta"Read a book, read a book, read a mother f*cking book!"
After watching the episode the 2nd time, I take back the comment on the episode yesterday about the episode being just "good", it was just AWESOME! Daring Do is definitely the coolest pony EVER!
VastaKustutaLoved the episode, so many great bits.
VastaKustutaBut something I haven't seen anyone else mention, is the background as Daring-Do runs toward the camera, right at the end of the book. I loved that. I made it my new desktop wallpaper. Just from an artistic standpoint, itwas beautiful. Reminded me of slightly of Scott Wills' backgrounds from Samurai Jack.
I didn't like Lesson Zero, actually. The Rarity "Worst-Possible-Thing" joke killed it for me (more like overkill).
VastaKustutaAlright, somepony get Cracking on the Daring Do Series! we Have One Great Story, and the Title to another Potential Awesome Story!
VastaKustutaWhat about the cover of the book? Am I the only one who thought of this http://twentypercentcooler.net/data/b2/65/b26556506cc34a4f1884b9c01c28e676.jpg?1322694492

was it just me or did that old colt in the hospital have Cancer
VastaKustutaBreaks fourth wall, breaks sidebar, nothing can resist the power of RBD.
VastaKustuta@baed9f92-5033-11e1-93a5-000bcdcb2996
VastaKustutaTo each their own. Personally, Lesson Zero is up there on my list of favorites.
Ok a couple things, one, its a cartoon, chill out folks. Don't panic if things do not make sense all the time and if continuity is a bit flaky.
VastaKustutaTwo, I rather liked the episode, it was fun and silly and rather enjoyable, with several momants of cute overload. I have noticed people tend to forget that RD spends a lot of her effert in maintaining an image, basicly 'the jock' As such, she was afraid of reading, thinking that if she read anything, it would make her less. RD, from the episode, seemed to only think that Twilight read books for fun, its only at the end when she realizes that all of her friends like to read.
Three, From the sound of the titles that where mentioned, it sounds like the titles are reworked from the harry potter series. Though, actualy, someone who is smart, might be able to take the idea, and actualy write up a few childrens storys to fit with the idea behind the series. Heck, if I could write childrens fiction, I would give it a try. Might do it anyways actualy.
Four, I did like the 'moral' of the show, basicly, reading is ok, even for jocks, and anyone else.
Oh yes, as for Dash's bedroom, lets be honest, the only consistant bedroom we have seen has been Twilights. Everyone else gets a new room every time i think.
Well thats all for now, I loved the show, was fun.
@NinjaBabyBrony72
VastaKustutaI'll say it once again. He did not have cancer, he had a shaved head. You could still clearly see his hairline. Cancer treatment kills hair follicles, so his hairline would not be visible.
I just shaved my head two weeks ago and my hairline was still clearly visible.
@Alyeskabird
VastaKustutaWell, we've seen Fluttershy's bedroom a couple times, and I think it's been consistent.
100+ comments and no mention of the awesome James Bond reference near the end of the story? With Ahuizotl petting the kitten? Sad times. I loved that, and basically the entire episode. /)^3^(\
VastaKustutaThere was a moment where AJ was speaking, and her mouth stopped moving, but she continued to speak. It was weird.
VastaKustutaFrom now on, I'm calling the doctor pony Doctor Stable, or Stable M.D.
VastaKustutaFull name: Stable Condition.
Did anypony else notice that Pinkie Pie was sleeping in a house and not Sugarcube Corner?
VastaKustutaI thought it had been established that Pinkie lives upstairs at Sugarcube Corner, Like Rarity does at Carousel Boutique?
@RisingStar
VastaKustutaI like Dr. Cardio, since his cutie mark is an EKG (heart monitor).
Tigers with flails, crocodile ceiling traps, battle axe launchers, and a room filled with every cliche you can think of?
VastaKustutaOne badass book right there.
@Potassium
VastaKustutaBlofeld has some far fetched relatives...
@Potassium
VastaKustutaYesterday, I mentioned that Ahuizotl was like Ricardo Montalban if he was a Bond villain. Maybe similar to Senor Senior Sr. from Kim Possible, who was also like a Bond villain and actually voiced by Ricardo Montalban.
@MyBoyJ
VastaKustutaThe doc is a unicorn, so the x-rays might as well be m-rays. Magic!
I now have in my mind an image of Twilight blasting focused friendship through Dash's wing to see if the bones have healed.
Don't worry, I saw the doctor do this and it can't be that hard.
After which Rainbow's shadow is burned to the wall behind her and the poor filly is flash-blinded for a week.
If MLP ever does a Kamen Rider-themed episode...
VastaKustutaOH, WHAT A GLORIOUS DAY THAT WILL BE.
brb, writing Kamen Rider and MLP crossover fianfic.
@Shayzorr
VastaKustutaThat's a distinct possibility.
I'm also a little surprised that nopony is complaining about Dash clearly having an electric lamp next to her bed, (but oddly had a lantern full of fireflies).
I really enjoyed the episode, but I think I've gotten a little sick of seeing so much Rainbow Dash screen time. I need a break from her egotism for a while. X(
VastaKustutaNew favorite episode ever here.
VastaKustutaHow was Rainbow Dash going to get into or out of her house without being able to fly?
VastaKustuta@David Johnston
VastaKustutaLadder made of clouds.
Loved the episode, also strange how they had three morals in one episode.
VastaKustuta"Reading isn't just for eggheads"
"I shouldn't hate something until I've tried it"
"If you like something, don't hide it from your friends because you fear of what they will think of you"
Yep, best ever... Nothing more nothing less.
VastaKustutaFilthy Rich, Daring Do, Iron Will...
VastaKustutaI like this new naming pattern.
I haz kind of a sad. I had a fic that was nearly completed with its first chapter that was kind of Indiana Jones meets pony, then I saw the preview and realized it was going to be seen as a copy of Daring-Do forever after. I'm not entirely sure of what to do at this point...
VastaKustutaI did very much enjoy the episode, though. Surprised no one mentioned Pinkie's impossible neck twisting at the start.
Damn fine episode.
VastaKustuta@mattwhite924
VastaKustutaAah Yes so awesome you saw it too! (And of course I'm sure tons of ppl took notice of it.) =) I don't know if it was intentional but I even think that when Daring Do looks up at the hole in the roof, we see a bit of glaring as if the camera was filming into too bright light, like you often could see in "old-nowhere-near-digital" movies. =)
This show just keeps on amazing me!
@MyBoyJ
VastaKustutaI thought about the lamp/lantern thing during the episode, but the death trap and chase at the end made me forget it. I can't say it bothered me, though.
The lantern was a beautiful detail. It probably wasn't hospital equipment. Didn't the staffers have flashlights? Perhaps Dash had somepony bring the lantern to her secretly. Somepony like Scootaloo, who can be trusted to do things for Dash without too many questions.
Confound these ponies, they make be overthink these things.
@N'Eligahn, The Bullheaded Gamer
VastaKustutaI would say keep writing it. Don't be discouraged by the show having a similar concept.
Maybe you could even change a few names here and there and turn it into a Daring-Do story.
Also, yesterday, I mentioned that Pinkie apparently has no bones because of the neck spinning.
when rainbow dash is reading aloud, that's totally the never ending story bgm
VastaKustutaAnyone else noticed that the statues in the temple look an awful lot like diamond dogs? So does the entrance, when you think about it.
VastaKustutaNobody even mentioned that Twilight squeaked like Fluttershy.
VastaKustutaOn the front cover of the book Daring is a recolour of Dash anyway, but I still want to believe that Daring only looked like Dash because it was in Dash's imagination while reading.
VastaKustuta@Jacky2734
VastaKustutaDash also squeaked like Fluttershy when she was sneaking into the hospital room. Twilight also squeaked like Fluttershy in Feeling Pinkie Keen. I think Pinkie has also done the squeak at least once.
That squeak seems to be something that all ponies are capable of.
@Present Perfect
VastaKustutaThe Equestrian publisher changed the title for no good reason but Twilight, being a purist, refers to to by the title J.K. Rearing gave it.
Just to note. The Daring Do we saw is technically Rainbow Dash, so they share the title of bestpony.
VastaKustuta@MyBoyJ climbing ladders is booooring.
@S008
VastaKustutaHow about an escalator made of clouds?
@MyBoyJ
VastaKustutaOr a stairlift made of clouds?
@Maquabra
VastaKustutaReally ?
I loved this episode, it was so epic :D Daring Do is new best (minor) pony!!
VastaKustutaI can't figure out what I got a bigger kick out of this episode: the Indi parody... or Dash in "ze cooler" (ball bouncing, which raises the question: if you put Dash in "ze cooler", does it become a "20% cooler").
VastaKustutaIs the Indi thing cliche? Probably. Do I care? Not at all, the film grain effect, letterbox format and colour bleed were nice touches as well for the Daring-Doo sequences.
Come to think of it, between Indiana Jones, The Great Escape, Spiderman and (potentially?) Wolverine... and any others I may have missed, this was a bit of a "how many references can we cram into one episode" episode... which I'm cool with.
How long before someone creates a playable copy of that Sinking-ships-like boardgame?
VastaKustutaAlso Ponyville Security Service has cool looking utility belts!
I wonder if the new patient in RD's place is being treated for cancer? He doesn't seem old but has lost his mane.
Has Pinkie got her own place, since it doesn't seem to be Sugarcube Corner that Rainbow runs past.
Rainbow can clearly walk just as good on 3 legs as on 4.
@MyBoyJ
VastaKustuta"the presence of x-rays confirms that ponies use radioactive materials"
X-rays are usually made with vacuum tubes and high-voltage electricity, so it confirms that ponies have good enough control of electricity to be able to handle kilovolt potentials.
I'm still wondering about the different number of divisions on clock faces: twelve in this episode, only eight in earlier ones.
@Maquabra
VastaKustutaA) Yes, RD's eyes are technically magenta, but cut Seth some slack. He is a man, you know, and you just used that as an excuse for yourself.
B) Whatever, can't please everyone. I personally found this ep much more entertaining than Baby Cakes, partially because I happen to like action sequences/homages to other stuff, partially because it had RD at her most hilariously manic, and partially because Pinkie mostly didn't get to be her usual random self in Baby Cakes. To each his own.
@EquineNoxX
VastaKustutaAgain, not a cancer patient. He had a shaved head. Look closely and you can see his hairline. Hair follicles die from cancer treatments and would not be visible.
Shaved head does not equal cancer patient. I shaved my head two weeks ago and my hairline was clearly visible.
No love for the bad-ass security guard. He looked majorly cool!
VastaKustutaDid anyone else notice in the pic that Seth labeled "strange" that she has bothe her wings unfurled,yet her left wing is still bandaged and retracted... I'm slightly confused....
VastaKustutaI thought the episode was okay. I never really found Indiana Jones style action scenes to be particularly suspenseful or engaging. I also find intentionally bad acting to be uncomfortable to watch. It had some decent-enough moments, but it's not among my favorites.
VastaKustutaAlso, is it weird that, upon seeing RD's roommate, I immediately thought of Joe from Johnny Got His Gun? They're not exact parallels, but still.
@the-matthew
VastaKustutaOkay, I'll admit, I don't know that much about physics and medical imaging. But you ask me about moral philosophy and I can tell you about quite a few different theories that are ultimately down to personal preference.
Still, I bet Dash was wearing a lead apron when they took that image.
@MyBoyJ
VastaKustutaSpeaking of the x-ray; did they take it when Dash was unconscious? She woke up and Dr. Cardio had it already. That seems slightly creepy.
SO Twilight and Dash are BBBs? Best Book Buddies?^g^
VastaKustutaHonestly hope this will fuel some fanfic writers to write some good TwiDash stuff. Can´t wait for some new fics to read. :D
I honestly thought this episode was pretty cool and, not to mention, I now have a favorite oneshot character to boot.
VastaKustutaNot to mention the reference to Indiana Jones and the small one towards HouseMD were pretty awesome.
@MyBoyJ
VastaKustutaI just find it interesting that people like to jump to modern technology solutions for how the X-ray happened in a world with magic.
After all, it is just as believable that there is a Unicorn capable of doing magic X-rays instead of technology doing it. And we have seen repeatedly that technology is not that widespread in the show.
Some of the lip sync wasn't quite right the episode. XD
VastaKustutaThey could me I can be anything so I want to be a cat lady, I want that cat whistle!! *shot*
Adored the expressions in this episode AND DASHIES MESSY HAIR! Loved it. l3
After watching this a few more times, I can say without any doubt this was my favorite episode of the entire series. This season as a whole has been somewhat under the quality of last season, but this one was excellent: the animation, the dialogue, the references, the lesson of the episode, and Dash's mannerisms and expressions were absolutely hilarious. Call me a Rainbow Dash fanboy, but I loved everything about it.
VastaKustutaAlso: Dash is a hoodie ninja.
@SkyTheMoonWarrior
VastaKustuta*in
*tol
So many typos... ;w;
@Hawklaser
VastaKustutaWell, the entire hospital itself is relatively modern. It has electric lamps, flashlights, a neonatal care unit, stethoscopes, wheelchairs, EKGs, full body casts, and probably a lot more.
Magic is a distinct possibility, and maybe the most likely answer, but medical technology can't be ruled out completely.
She looked SO BUCKING ADORABLE in that hospital T-shirt :D
VastaKustutaWith the Daring Do. The villain had a Dr Claw moment with the cat and the next time Daring Do
VastaKustutaI love Neanderthal Dash crushing the boardgame box
VastaKustutaSomepony please make the Daring Do book series into reality. o_o
VastaKustutathis episode makes me wanna watch some Indiana johns :D :3
VastaKustutaI can't help but notice that Daring-Do's mouth does not match her words at 2:36 in the story only video. She is just obviously saying something but all you hear is a sigh. Any guesses?
VastaKustutaSo, is anypony official Daring-Do author yet? :)
VastaKustutaHonestly, it wasn't one of my more favorite episodes. I don't hate any of the episodes mind you, but it just didn't hit any high notes with me as an overall episode. I guess it's somewhere in the middle for me. Though it did have some great moments as they all do. My two favorite moments in this one were the "Battleclouds" game; "aw shucks, you rained on my cumulus" (lmao), and the barking mental patient pony. She gave me a good laugh. She should be named "Loose Screw" honestly, if she hasn't been named that already. It did have some great action sequences in it, and that's what I was hoping for the most after the Indiana Jones-inspired clip. And yeah, the Reading Rainbow PMV was inevitable. People were already putting those two together before the episode. :P
VastaKustuta
