Time for some Spike and World building! Synopsis after the break.
Episode: Dragon Quest
Air Date: March 17, 2012)
Synopsis: Spike joins the Great Dragon Migration to discover his true identity, but it might not be what he really needs.
I heard of an announcement of the Great Dragon Migration, and thought it would be a good way to find out who I really am. With my things packed, and me succesfully out of Twilight's House, I head up north to join my brothers. ------------------------------------------------ () Head North to meet Dragons at Great Dragon Migration (*) Sneak out of Twilight's house without being discovered (*) Fake Sleep until Twilight Sparkle is fully asleep (*) (Optional) Pack Scroll Paper, ink, and bird feather (*) Pack things and hide things under bed
Sounds like an interesting episode. Unfortunately it's going to completely destroy the "It takes a Village" back-story, but if handled well, it could be awesome. I hope we can see more of dragon culture and maybe learn about about Spike's clan.
Oh wow, just by the summary alone, I know that I'm going to love this episode.
It's gonna be really fun to learn about what the Great Dragon Migration is about and more about Dragon's in general, and the fact that it's Spike centered makes it all the better for me!
I'm totally stoked to see this episode, it's gonna be a tough wait. XD
i don't get why people get bothered by canon destroying fanfic back stories. so fucking what? are you living and dying by that backstory? If so, you have bigger problems than canon steppin on your toes.
In the Crusaders' clubhouse, Scootaloo silently wept. "Why doesn't anypony want to see me?" she asked. The maps, charts, and other crusading paraphernalia did not respond.
Slowly, she pulled the newspapers over her shivering body and cried herself to sleep.
Eh, I'm not too excited for this. I mean, we all know that Studio B will make it great, but... Eh. I guess I don't value Spike as a character. Still interested to see how this comes out, though. Hooves crossed! (Somehow...)
Okay, I'm done with that part. I had a feeling we'd get another Spike episode before the second season ended. I would have been surprised, if that were to not happen. This may actually turn out to be even better than the last one. Like any other episode, though, I don't want to get my expectations too high, but dang, as a Spike fan, that's going to be really hard for me to do. I seriously cannot wait for this one.
Personally I love Spike. He's never been used properly in a story line in my opinion, so here's hoping now in the cartoon's genesis they have something planned that'll be great! I have high hopes for this episode! Oh, if only Lauren Faust was still around! She'd make sure Spike got a proper session in character development!
Another Spike episode? Interesting. I was a bit disappointed by the last episode I expected background information from (Hearth's Warming Eve), so I'm not getting my hopes up in that respect. Spike could really do with an awesome episode, though, so let's hope it's a great one.
Wow, some more Spike. Spike has certainly been getting a lot more airtime lately. Which is nice. And Dragon Migration? Well... that's interesting. They migrate. lol
IM SO FREAKING EXCITED ja;sfjalskjf i cosplay spike annd....yesss...just yesss. hopefully we'll find out more about him and why he doesnt have wings. migration sounds like FLYING to me :3
Well now, this is unexpected. I'll still keep on my "expect the worst" side of the street, as there is a myriad of ways this can be ruined with rampant silliness, but an episode with great worldbuilding potential like that is something I didn't expect to come up.
I sense some extreme world building in preparation for the Cadence episodes! Hopefully the next 3 after this will elaborate some more on Equestria and the lands surrounding it before everypony gets whisked away to Alicorn land for the wedding.
True, but we already know that the finale is a two parter, and it seems likely that it's the Princess Cadance episodes. So, if there is 26 episodes, there are 3 more normal episodes after this Spike one. 5 if there are 28 episodes.
Actually this reminds me of a G1 episode where Spike goes off to join a horde of dragons to learn more about being a dragon...but discovers the dragons were complete assholes.
I really hope that Twilight has a good sized role in this one, or at least Spike's relationship with her does. I'm really jonesing for more central cast interactions this season.
You and I both, but considering what the vast majority of Season 2 has been like, I'm not convinced it's in the cards. Like it or not, they have chosen to make this season a much more individual-focused affair, at the deep expense of interpersonal relationships and the mutual growth the characters experience after overcoming conflicts (Season 1, by contrast, was almost nothing BUT this). Make no mistake, Season 2 as it stands has good value, but...it just isn't the same. The general approach they chose to take this season is perfectly legitimate, but ultimately inferior in my opinion. As far as this episode goes, though, we shall see. I would love to be surprised.
My first thought was 'Oh, It Takes a Village part 2, assuming in my head canon that the Secret of My Excess was part 1' and then I thought...whatever.. it sounds AWESOME!
Are they seriously calling the episode Dragon Quest? O_o After references to classic movies, references to classic video games... this keeps getting better...
I think this is going to be the first episode with a reference to a videogame. And the actual name, too! (Even if it was called "Dragon Warrior" in the US until 2005.)
This reminds me of a fanfiction... But I can't remember what it was called...
Man, time travel and dragons... So much to look forward to!
You basically just summed up my personal RPG catalog from my teen years. If only they did this... especially an Earthbound referencing episode, if only the in title.
As for the episode, I love how B-list characters have been getting this extra attention. Spike really deserves it to, being the most active with the Mane 6.
His quest coming to a close, Spike approached the fortress that held the whereabouts of the final location of his mission. After this, Spike hoped, he would understand what kind of dragon he is, and discover his true destiny.
"It's a little weird," Spike said aloud to himself, "This is my last stop before I go home, and they call it 'The End'. "But then again," the young dragon said as he looked around at the strange, sharply-angled landscape around him, "That's not as weird as some of the things I've seen..."
As long as Derpy never gets eye surgery and Rainbow Dash doesn't do anything heterosexual, I don't mind the occasional fanfic being made obsolete. World building is awesome! And with that, I'm going into a state of hibernation for the next month to avoid having to wait for this episode.
The only correct thing to think of first is the classic game series put out by the Enix side of Square Enix before their merger. It came around LONG before Brody.
However, I'm really looking forward to this episode. I predict that by the end of the episode, we'll see references to:
-Dragon Quest (Slimes! Slimes everywhere! GET THAT METAL ONE!!!) -Dungeons & Dragons (I mean COME ON!!! It's Hasbro. It's practically BEGGING to be done.) -Skyrim (I can only imagine a dragon shouting would have to be in it) -Something to do with Akira Toriyama (going back to the DQ thing) -Someone will mention to a dragon about being a warrior (a sly shout out to Dragon Quest being known as Dragon Warrior in North America for a while; I still have my original copy of Dragon Warrior 1 for the NES) -Some sort of surprise Magic: the Gathering reference somehow (LOTS of dragons and other cool shit that Hasbro ALSO owns lol)
Looking forward to this, an episode that comes after an episode that has so much potential for so many Back to the Future, Chrono Trigger, and Doctor Who jokes.
Spike is my least favorite of the main cast (it's basically Mane 6 = #1, Spike = #7), but if it weren't for him, we wouldn't have gotten A Dog and Pony Show, which is my favorite episode.
Well, it sounds like there really won't be anything for me here, but so far there's been no such thing as a bad pony episode. After all, this show could always use more dragons.
@ChowderT I hope they either reference the game or the 1991 show that only aired 13 Levels before being banned in the US. I loved the show so much but I never found an English Sub for the rest of the episodes. Dragon Quest is awesome and I really really hope they reference it.
A bigger view on the world AND character development? And for Spike no less? Ah, Hasbro, you know how to hit the sweet spots on this Pegasus! ...Dragon Quest... Slime appears?
For those wondering, this does sound very similar to the plot for The Land Before Time: The Great Migration, although that could easily change with more details. Of course, having a dragon voiced by Kiefer "Jack Bauer" Sutherland would be kind of awesome.

ReplyDeleteSpike/Spike episode = BOO!
our opinion, don't cause a childish flame war.
I'll admit, while I didn't hate them, I personally wasn't too impressed with the previous two Spike-centered episodes.
ReplyDeleteThird times the charm? I'm at least intrigued by the description.
Spike going to Skyrim?!
ReplyDeleteAfter today, it will be 2 weeks before we see a new episode
ReplyDeletethis is going to be epic cant wait
ReplyDeleteThis could either be deep and fascinating, or a bit cliché. Time will tell, but it sure sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteSpike is best baby dragon :) he is one of my fav characters even tho so many people seem to not :P
ReplyDeleteHow long before Square Enix sues?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great idea for a fanfic. Oh wait...

This looks to be a very in-depth episode...with a lot of history on the dragons in Equestria.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I'd imagine the Mane 6 will be saddened by this turn of events. Especially Twilight.
ReplyDeleteWait, wasn't this was a video game or something...
ReplyDeleteThis actually sounds like a pretty awesome episode! Im really looking forward to seeing some more dragons!
ReplyDeleteOh my
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting episode. Unfortunately it's going to completely destroy the "It takes a Village" back-story, but if handled well, it could be awesome. I hope we can see more of dragon culture and maybe learn about about Spike's clan.

This sounds like it's gonna be good. It's good to have another Spike episode.
ReplyDeleteA serious Spike episode? Sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteSo Spike having an existentialist crisis and making a life-changing journey? Sounds promising.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for another Spike episode before season two ended! Seriously, two episodes of best dragon in a single season makes me a happy camper. <3
ReplyDeleteThanks, DHX. DON'T LET ME DOWN! DX
(PS: I know you guys won't. ;D)
@slifertheskydragon Oh my Celestia your right, shits gonna go down!

ReplyDeleteI can't wait for this episode! Everyone quick! Make "SPIKEQUEST" videos!
*takes off glasses* Mother of God...
ReplyDeleteHe was dragonborn, now he must quest with dragons.
ReplyDeleteThis has potential. We know almost nothing about dragon society or Spike's role in it.
SO MANY QUESTIONS ANSWERED!
I almost hope that Hasbro flexes it's "We hold the rights to D&D LOL" muscles for this one.
@Bronyhub
ReplyDeletei don't get why people get bothered by canon destroying fanfic back stories. so fucking what? are you living and dying by that backstory? If so, you have bigger problems than canon steppin on your toes.
might not really guys, might not really maybe...
ReplyDeleteAll I'm saying is he better fight some slimes.
ReplyDeleteOkay, nopony else has said it so I'll get it out of the way:
ReplyDeleteSpike has to find himself.
I'm sorry, but you know this will be a common theme in fanart going into it.
Fanfic content +17

ReplyDeleteIf someone doesn't mod a Dragon Quest game to have ponies now, I'll be disappoint.
ReplyDeletePersonally I love Spike. He's never been used properly in a story line in my opinion, so here's hoping now in the cartoon's genesis they have something planned that'll be great! I have high hopes for this episode! Oh, if only Lauren Faust was still around! She'd make sure Spike got a proper session in character development!
ReplyDeleteAnother great synopsis. Now the wait...
ReplyDeleteAnother Spike episode? Interesting. I was a bit disappointed by the last episode I expected background information from (Hearth's Warming Eve), so I'm not getting my hopes up in that respect. Spike could really do with an awesome episode, though, so let's hope it's a great one.
ReplyDeleteWow, some more Spike. Spike has certainly been getting a lot more airtime lately. Which is nice. And Dragon Migration? Well... that's interesting. They migrate. lol
ReplyDeleteSpike doesn't see that it's such a great thing... because he meets the Dragonborn?
ReplyDeleteIM SO FREAKING EXCITED ja;sfjalskjf i cosplay spike annd....yesss...just yesss. hopefully we'll find out more about him and why he doesnt have wings. migration sounds like FLYING to me :3
ReplyDeleteIncoming Brody Quest song!
ReplyDeletelooks like Twi is gonna need a new royal serf... or Owl-delicious is getting quite a coupla extra chores
ReplyDeleteFirst initial thought?
ReplyDelete"Square Enix better put Spike in the next Dragon Quest game now."
Awwww, here I was hoping for a new Dragon Quest game with a Friendship Is Magic theme.
ReplyDelete...Nintendo, SqureEnix, get to that!
Adrian Brody, Adrian Bro-dy...
ReplyDeleteWell now, this is unexpected. I'll still keep on my "expect the worst" side of the street, as there is a myriad of ways this can be ruined with rampant silliness, but an episode with great worldbuilding potential like that is something I didn't expect to come up.
ReplyDeleteSpike?
ReplyDeletePossibly meeting other dragons?
Anyone getting any G1 vibes just now?
I sense some extreme world building in preparation for the Cadence episodes!
ReplyDeleteHopefully the next 3 after this will elaborate some more on Equestria and the lands surrounding it before everypony gets whisked away to Alicorn land for the wedding.
well this sounds like the best thing ever.
ReplyDeleteO: This sounds so epic. Mass dragons? World building? Soul searching? YES PLEASE.
ReplyDeleteWow, more Spike episodes, awesome! He's one of my favorite characters... shame Scootaloo has yet to get an episode for herself though :(
ReplyDeleteMore lore please. So much want.
ReplyDeleteWow that sounds great!
ReplyDeleteWatch out for slimes on yer Dragon Quest, Spike.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWell quite frankly, when I hear the name 'Dragon Quest', I think of the game, Dragon Quest.
ReplyDeleteA slime draws near. Command?
ReplyDeleteWaitWhat
ReplyDeleteHmm... with only 3 episodes left after this one (Unless a 27 and 28 do exist). I'll put my bets on these for the final 3 episodes before the finale.
ReplyDelete- 1 Fluttershy Episode
- 1 Scootaloo Episode
- 1 Princess Celestia Episode
It's getting better and better!
ReplyDelete@Killsteal_Wolf
ReplyDeleteI'm fairly sure somewhere someone said that the finale was a two-parter. Unless you counted that as the Celestia Episode.
Sounds like a great episode!
ReplyDeleteAnd Seth, can you please post source links to images when you use them? Having to hit Google on a complete lack of sleep is not fun :)

Oh god, dead fanfictions.....dead Spike origins fanfictions everywhere...they were killed by canon....
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThose fictions had a good life but it's time to move on to reality!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, I can't wait for this one! Sounds interesting! And I do love Spike episodes. :3 Woohoo!
ReplyDelete@Killsteal_Wolf
ReplyDeleteUh, since this is episode 21, that means five more episodes. If there is a 27 and 28, then seven more.
Does canon rly kill fanfiction? If its good I say it'll never die!
ReplyDeleteWhaaaaaaaaaaaa OMG that sounds way too awesome O.O
ReplyDeleteWhy must we wait a month for this?! Nooooooo
@Yu Kigono
ReplyDeleteTrue, but we already know that the finale is a two parter, and it seems likely that it's the Princess Cadance episodes. So, if there is 26 episodes, there are 3 more normal episodes after this Spike one. 5 if there are 28 episodes.
An opportunity for a fascinating insight into the culture and history of dragons in Equestria... This will be interesting.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see this, will be interesting to see the dragons lifestyles.
ReplyDeleteI think i read a fanfic like this once ;D
ReplyDeleteMy birthday episode! Thank you so much Hasbro/the Hub! :D
ReplyDeleteActually this reminds me of a G1 episode where Spike goes off to join a horde of dragons to learn more about being a dragon...but discovers the dragons were complete assholes.
ReplyDeleteFist time travel, now this?
ReplyDeleteWhat will the two parter finale be like?
The sound that came out of my mouth was not human.
ReplyDeleteOh god yes.
@Flutteryay No, not at all. Like, literally, the first thing I thought of when I saw the title was "Brodyquest?!?"
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be awesome.
I just watched Napoleon Dynamite and -- YUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
ReplyDelete@Mike
ReplyDelete... ...by which I mean this episode sounds like win.
Here's hoping there's a dragon named "Vicious"
ReplyDeletethis could be an awsome ep!
ReplyDeleteThis has so much potential to be a deep and profound episode with so much great emotion.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna hype up for this one!
I really hope that Twilight has a good sized role in this one, or at least Spike's relationship with her does. I'm really jonesing for more central cast interactions this season.
ReplyDeleteDragonquest learn to become a warrior to kill Slimes
ReplyDeleteDragon Quest Spike in a "videogame" like quest.
Man still no Scootaloo episode.
Aw, no St. Patri- er, Ale and Shamrocks Day episode?
ReplyDelete@Kimmerz
ReplyDeleteThis reminded me of that episode too, except I only heard of that G1 episode, I never saw it.
This kinda reminded of Sintel, not quite the same but, have a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRsGyueVLvQ
ReplyDeleteAs the developer of the fan-game Spikes Quest, this nearly gave me a heart attack when I saw it xD
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good!
ReplyDeleteI bet after this episode airs, there's gonna be vids with HTTYD music...
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good...and at the risk of being killed violently, a bit like G1 episode if I remember correctly.
ReplyDeleteseriously another spike episode.. not even a scootaloo episode? poor scoot
ReplyDeleteHm. Interesting. Hope it doesn't come off like a dragon version of the Wonderbolts.
ReplyDeleteYes more Dragons
ReplyDeleteThank you Hasbro!
I just saw what we have so far for this episode and wow. It's amazing. Spike dies!
ReplyDelete@Harwick
ReplyDeleteYou and I both, but considering what the vast majority of Season 2 has been like, I'm not convinced it's in the cards. Like it or not, they have chosen to make this season a much more individual-focused affair, at the deep expense of interpersonal relationships and the mutual growth the characters experience after overcoming conflicts (Season 1, by contrast, was almost nothing BUT this). The general approach they chose to take this season is perfectly legitimate, but ultimately inferior in my opinion. As far as this episode goes, though, we shall see. I would love to be surprised.
Omg YES, We're finally gonna possibly see more dragons that aren't adult age!
ReplyDeleteSpike is on a dragon quest to understand his true concepts about himself? Make it so!!!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like the episode from 1987 called "Spike's Search".
ReplyDeleteTo quote wikipedia, in that episode Spike goes in search of his roots and joins a dragon horde, but finds he does not agree with their bullying ways.
Excited because it's a Spike episode, a little worried because it might interfere with my fanfuc idea. :I
ReplyDelete@Dawnmist *fanfic
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like it could be an awesome adventure episode
ReplyDeletejoins the migration only to be murdered by the Dragonborn. Definitely NOT what he needs.
ReplyDeleteIn their tongue...spike is Dovahkiin...DRAGONBORN!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the title isn't implying ANYTHING...
ReplyDeleteAT ALL...
I like Dragon Quest... as a sidenote... which has nothing to do with the title of that episode... at all...
This sounds AWESOME. :D
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was 'Oh, It Takes a Village part 2, assuming in my head canon that the Secret of My Excess was part 1' and then I thought...whatever.. it sounds AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteThis episode will actually be named "Dragon Warrior" in North America.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!!
ReplyDeleteDragon info! i needed more dragon info!!!
*fluttergasms*
Please tell me there is going be JRPG references in this episode. Especially Dragon Quest ones.
ReplyDeletePlease let us leave Equestria and see another land!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteyes a spike episode yes now all we need is spike to hook up with rarity and ill be the worlds happiest brony yes spike yesssssssss
ReplyDeleteHoly crap! Character development! Just what I wanted! YAY!
ReplyDeleteBUCK YEAH SPIKE EPISODE. Loving the character development lately!! :D
ReplyDeleteAre they seriously calling the episode Dragon Quest? O_o
ReplyDeleteAfter references to classic movies, references to classic video games... this keeps getting better...
Then spike becomes alduin the world eater
ReplyDeleteand mane 6 become dragon born's
@Krizak
ReplyDeleteYour comment wins.
Seriously though, the title is "Dragon Quest" and people immediately think Brody or Skyrim and not... Dragon Quest?
I'm getting too old for this.
Episode 22: Final Fantasy
ReplyDeleteEpisode 23: Chrono Trigger
Episode 24: Pocket Monster
Episode 25: Earthbound
There must be a Skyrim reference... maybe another dragon will say Fus Ro Dah.
ReplyDeleteAlready been done!
ReplyDelete"Spike's Search" from the G1 series My Little Pony & Friends. :p
A fan of the Dragon Quest games amongst Studio B? YESSSSS.
ReplyDeleteI think this is going to be the first episode with a reference to a videogame. And the actual name, too! (Even if it was called "Dragon Warrior" in the US until 2005.)
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of a fanfiction... But I can't remember what it was called...
Man, time travel and dragons... So much to look forward to!
@D. McCarthy
ReplyDeleteYou basically just summed up my personal RPG catalog from my teen years. If only they did this... especially an Earthbound referencing episode, if only the in title.
As for the episode, I love how B-list characters have been getting this extra attention. Spike really deserves it to, being the most active with the Mane 6.
Spike you are Dovahkiin. Dragonborn!
ReplyDeleteI find this kind of funny and depressing because my Lit. has been studying Chris McCandless.
ReplyDeleteThe title isn't the only video game reference here I'm sure we will have a Spyro moment or 2 in it too.
ReplyDeleteNICE!
ReplyDelete<sees so many people talk about rpgs
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who first thought of Brodyquest?
Great dragon migration. They're off to start a new world.
ReplyDeleteDragon Quest? Thats a game aint it?
ReplyDeleteHis quest coming to a close, Spike approached the fortress that held the whereabouts of the final location of his mission. After this, Spike hoped, he would understand what kind of dragon he is, and discover his true destiny.
ReplyDelete"It's a little weird," Spike said aloud to himself, "This is my last stop before I go home, and they call it 'The End'.

As long as Derpy never gets eye surgery and Rainbow Dash doesn't do anything heterosexual, I don't mind the occasional fanfic being made obsolete. World building is awesome! And with that, I'm going into a state of hibernation for the next month to avoid having to wait for this episode.
ReplyDeleteJossed fanfiction never dies. It just becomes alt-history.
ReplyDeleteDragon Quest? I love those games.
ReplyDeleteOMG ANOTHER SPIKE EPISODE! AND MORE STUFF ABOUT DRAGONS IN EQUESTRIA!
ReplyDeleteThis is the GREATEST DAY EVER!
@Flutteryay
ReplyDeleteNope.
dammit! they just ruined my fanfic! unless I can write around it! till then.....
ReplyDeleteWhy am I suddenly put in mind of the "Cow and Chicken" episode when Cow decided to try herding?
ReplyDelete@Hunter Moore i always have to work hard to find fellow Spike lovers.
ReplyDeleteAn episode full of dragons?
ReplyDeleteIt's been awhile since Spike showed up..so we're due for some dragon cuteness.
@Twifight Sparkill At last someone who understands me.
ReplyDelete@Flutteryay
ReplyDeleteNope, you weren't alone.
MFW I just started replaying Dragon Quest 8 last night.
ReplyDeleteIf there is an Akira Toriyama art design reference in this episode I will Fluttersquee.
The mangaka of HunterxHunter will love this episode.
ReplyDeleteOh man this sounds awesome
ReplyDeleteYaya a Spike episode
ReplyDeletelove his episodes
Seth really really like dragons like in the way that some of us like ponies *wink*
ReplyDeleteI now officially love Hasbro forever, simply for the episode's name. Now if only we could get slimes confirmed as canon Equestrian fauna... :P
ReplyDeleteThe only correct thing to think of first is the classic game series put out by the Enix side of Square Enix before their merger. It came around LONG before Brody.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm really looking forward to this episode. I predict that by the end of the episode, we'll see references to:
-Dragon Quest (Slimes! Slimes everywhere! GET THAT METAL ONE!!!)
-Dungeons & Dragons (I mean COME ON!!! It's Hasbro. It's practically BEGGING to be done.)
-Skyrim (I can only imagine a dragon shouting would have to be in it)
-Something to do with Akira Toriyama (going back to the DQ thing)
-Someone will mention to a dragon about being a warrior (a sly shout out to Dragon Quest being known as Dragon Warrior in North America for a while; I still have my original copy of Dragon Warrior 1 for the NES)
-Some sort of surprise Magic: the Gathering reference somehow (LOTS of dragons and other cool shit that Hasbro ALSO owns lol)
Looking forward to this, an episode that comes after an episode that has so much potential for so many Back to the Future, Chrono Trigger, and Doctor Who jokes.
i am so far from being first
ReplyDeleteHence starts the animations of spike questing it.
ReplyDeleteTime to joss a whole bunch more fanfics!
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'm very interested in this. Faust herself has said that ponies don't know that much about Dragons. Dunno if that's changed since she left.
Spike is my least favorite of the main cast (it's basically Mane 6 = #1, Spike = #7), but if it weren't for him, we wouldn't have gotten A Dog and Pony Show, which is my favorite episode.
ReplyDeleteWell, it sounds like there really won't be anything for me here, but so far there's been no such thing as a bad pony episode. After all, this show could always use more dragons.
Oh, man. If they do Dragon Quest references here... XD
ReplyDeleteOverall, this'll be great for some character development and world-building.
@Jason I'll be very sad if he doesn't enounter any slimes. The original NES game was so fucking awesome!
ReplyDelete@ChowderT I hope they either reference the game or the 1991 show that only aired 13 Levels before being banned in the US. I loved the show so much but I never found an English Sub for the rest of the episodes. Dragon Quest is awesome and I really really hope they reference it.
ReplyDeleteA bigger view on the world AND character development? And for Spike no less? Ah, Hasbro, you know how to hit the sweet spots on this Pegasus! ...Dragon Quest... Slime appears?
ReplyDeleteThese episode just KEEP GETTING BETTER!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best show ever!
And I can already see the DragonQuest video game photoshops with this
this sounds horrifyingly similar to one of the land before time sequels...
ReplyDelete"Dost thou love me, Spike?" (no)
ReplyDelete"But thou must!
http://images.4chan.org/mlp/src/1329597032942.png
ReplyDeleteyou know who loves dragons this guy.
Sound like... Land Before Time: The Big Freeze? anyone? anyone?
ReplyDeleteHow about you credit the artists of the images you use?
ReplyDeleteThe image of Spike and Twilight was done by Bricu on DeviantArt, you can find the link below.
http://fav.me/d4hhhyx
This sounds like an episode that might actually get us a Spike song!
ReplyDeleteAm I a dragon?!
Or am I a pony?
(Am I a pony?)
If I'm a pony,
Then I'm a very scaly pony
(Very scaly pony)
OGAWDDRAGONS!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Fluttershy will be featured prominently in this episode as well.

ReplyDeleteLet the fanfics go wild. XD
I like world building.
ReplyDeleteMore Spike? Sweet. Spike is best pony.
ReplyDelete@y2kyle89: I see what you did there. :)
ReplyDeleteThat'd be pretty cool actually...
For those wondering, this does sound very similar to the plot for The Land Before Time: The Great Migration, although that could easily change with more details. Of course, having a dragon voiced by Kiefer "Jack Bauer" Sutherland would be kind of awesome.
ReplyDeleteAhh...I was gonna write a Fanfic about Spike's journey to discover himself. Curse you Hasbro...
ReplyDelete@KAWAIIMO
ReplyDeleteI think that Spike doesn´t have wings because he´s some kind of earth-dragon.
This is #200
ReplyDeleteSounds like a reinvention of a G1 storyline, called "Spike's Search"
ReplyDeleteSynopsis:Spike goes in search of his roots and joins a dragon horde, but finds he does not agree with their bullying ways.
Not saying it's an exact reinvention...but it IS possible.
There's a whole previous generation of stories from which to mine from.
I can't wait to see how this episode pans out!
