I think Seth's love for Daring Do is rubbing off on me.
Tonight I have for you a sidescrolling game featuring Rainbow Dash's favorite heroine, and lemme tell you, it is really pretty. This first version may only be a small sample level for framerate testing purposes, but the visuals are far and above what we usually see from these games. Check it out below!

ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing
ReplyDeleteThis looks like Megaman.
ReplyDeletePLEASE TELL ME IT IS BASED ON MEGAMAN
Fift! And...yea, this game looks awesome :D
ReplyDeleteThis is looking pretty sexy at the moment!
ReplyDeleteThis is looking pretty sexy at the moment!
ReplyDeleteIs this inspired by Luna game?
ReplyDeleteOr is it an actual side-scroller?
Well, it already looks great for a first test level. That's more than half the battle at this point in videogame historical development. Now they just need to make sure it plays well. Not a fan of the Mario mechanic, don't think it works well to see Daring Do jumping to knock out enemies. Maybe a rudimentary weapon system, something Contra-style would be fun to see.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, this is very early stage stuff, so it'll be fun to see how it develops.
Dudeawesome...
ReplyDeleteSeths head will explode if there was a Daring Do Trixie crossover, just putting that out there.
ReplyDeleteReally nice art. Hope there are plans for more interesting gameplay.
ReplyDeleteSo...
ReplyDeleteSmooth...
It looks really good and the music is nice.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed that Darin Do couldn't fly, but I guess that was the point, like in the actual episode.
Wow that was pretty awesome! I'm used to most of these fan flash games being a bit on the simple side but this one is shaping up to be so much more. Can't wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteThat was an awesome demo.
ReplyDeleteIt reminded me of BRAID, because of the graphics and the animation style. I can't wait to see more, and other possible gameplay mechanics. Possibly some flying or soaring mechanic.
Wow, the overall design really reminds me of "Claw", espetialy the second to last level.
ReplyDeleteAm I seriously the only one who noticed he said "Tonight" instead of "Today"?
ReplyDelete@FiM_Luna
ReplyDeleteAs do I, built within just the past couple of months with SLi and everything, but this still frequently dips down to about 16 FPS for no apparent reason for me.
Awesome graphics and music! There are still some things that need work, like animation and enemies backsides hitbox, but for a technical demo it is very impressive. Can't wait for final game.
ReplyDelete~32 fps on a quad core Mac Pro.
Awesome game, but my MacBook hates it...
ReplyDeleteGuys no need to boast about your rigs, it's a FLASH game so it makes terribly inefficient use of better graphics cards.
ReplyDeleteIf it was made in a compiled language, it would run on the cheapest thing Dell made from 1998.
Pretty impressive. What stood out for me was the music.
ReplyDelete@Solarsail
ReplyDeleteI'm not "boasting", I'm questioning why it DOESN'T run well on my machine when, by all means, it should.
Very smooth. Looking great.
ReplyDeletegood job keep at it :D
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty impressive so far! I especially like how Daring Do pulls herself up if she jumps into a corner of a ledge, or accidentally runs off a ledge and quickly runs back. Very nice little touch.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if you do that and press the jump key exactly as she starts to pull herself up, she does some sort of super jump, much higher than normal. I was actually able to jump over the far right wall of the level. If you have upward velocity as you super jump (as opposed to falling), then you'll go even higher. You can also super jump when bouncing off of enemies.
This has BR34CHED all boundaries of red hot Daring Do appeal.
ReplyDelete@Knuckleshy
ReplyDeleteYeah, the music was good. Couldn't get to a checkpoint though. The graphics were nice, but maybe the walk cycle was a bit weird?
@Nostalgia Schmaltz
ReplyDeleteThat could get annoying eventually too. There must be a better way to prevent firsts.
I love that Game, wish it was finish.
ReplyDeleteWow, the art work is amazing! I love games that appear hand-drawn like that. Even if the game play is very simple at this point, it's very nice to look at, and that's always a plus.
ReplyDeleteSo, this seems appropriate to post here. I just uploaded a lot of my previous graphics tech. Still looking for willing game designers and artists to make a pony-based game:

Ok, what is up with the comments issues lately? The comments box along with all the new comments seem to disappear randomly. Is that just me or are others seeing this?
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, can't wait to check out the completed version!
ReplyDelete@Derpy Hands
ReplyDeleteGames ideally remain unoptimized until they're almost finished, so always expect games early in development to be semi-slow.
Also, these textures are very high res, so it's going to take a lot more power to render them... and Flash isn't exactly the ideal model of efficiency.
It's not exactly a joy to play yet, but it does look rather pretty.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed it, nice game. Now gonna wait for the completed version.
ReplyDeleteWow, it does look really nice and polished in the graphical sense. Music fits well and it what I'd expect to hear in such a game. Though I was lagging a fair bit most of the time.
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing musical elements of "I Will Go Sailing No More" by Randy Newman, a song from Toy Story. (The "Out among the stars I sit" part.)
ReplyDeleteit looks amazing but the first few notes of the song are much too high pitched in my opinion
ReplyDeleteI got the feel I was playing my Nintendo 64 with this. The graphics are AWESOME and with some work this will be a great game.
ReplyDeleteI'm suddenly reminded of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure.
ReplyDeleteSeems like that game and Daring Do would go hand in hand.
The bricks remind me of Temple Run. Maybe the Temple Run bricks come from Indiana Jones.
