On the 11th of February, The Hub will be airing a five hour Mare-athon leading up to their new "Hearts and Hooves" Valentines day episode. It's really awesome to see our favorite ponies getting dedicated holiday stuff!
They need our support for the final Hubworld poll taking place on January 24, and asked EQD to gather the collective community to decide on it. Right now, FiM has a massive number of episodes, and The Hub has asked us to help get that down to 20!
The deadline for our personal poll is Monday at midnight ET (9:00 PM Blog Time), so we have the weekend to decide which episodes we want to see included.
After the break, I will include a list of all of them as a refresher (plus some alternate pre-air names, because those are awesome).

After attempting to warn Princess Celestia about the return of the wicked Night Mare Moon,
Twilight Sparkle and Spike travel to Ponyville where they meet Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rainbow Dash,
Rarity and Fluttershy.
Episode 102: Friendship is Magic - Part 2
It is up to Twilight and her new pony friends to help the Princess, but it will not be easy. NightMare Moon challenges the ponies with individual obstacles they must overcome to find the Elements of Harmony before it is too late.
Episode 103: The Ticket Master
When Twilight Sparkle receives two tickets from Princess Celestia to the Grand Galloping Gala, all of her friends want to go…but who will she choose?
Episode 104: Applebuck Season
It’s Applebuck Season in Ponyville and a short-handed Applejack is determined to complete the harvest all by herself.
Episode 105: Griffon the Brush-off
Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash pal around playing pranks on the other ponies, but when Dash’s old friend Gilda the Griffon shows up, Pinkie Pie suddenly becomes a third wheel.
Episode 106: Boast Busters
The arrival of Trixie, a boastful pony with magical skills, irritates the ponies in Ponyville who turn to Twilight to challenge her.
Episode 107: Dragonshy
Fluttershy must convince a sleeping dragon to move out of town before the plume of black
smoke it’s producing covers all of Equestria!
Episode 108: Look Before You Sleep
When the ponies gather at Twilight’s for a slumber party, Rarity and Applejack begin to quarrel and threaten to ruin the party.
Episode 109: Bridle Gossip
When the ponies are afflicted with bizarre and humorous sicknesses they accuse a mysterious
zebra named Zecora of placing a curse on them.
Episode 110: Swarm of the Century
Parasprites, furry little multiplying creatures, descend upon Ponyville and begin to devour
everything and it’s up to the ponies to find a solution.
Episode 111: Winter Wrap Up
Twilight Sparkle does her best to prepare for the upcoming Winter Wrap-Up without relying on her magic to help.
Episode 112: Call of the Cutie
Apple Bloom is discouraged because she has not received her cutie mark yet so she aggressively searches out her purpose in life so she can get it.
Episode 113: Fall Weather Friends
When Rainbow Dash and Applejack compete against each other in the annual Running of the
Leaves, competition turns sour and the ponies do whatever it takes to win.
Episode 114: Suited for Success
Rarity offers to make dresses for her friends for the upcoming Gala but gets in over her head
when she tries to incorporate all of their individual styling ideas.
Episode 115: Feeling Pinkie Keen
Amazed with Pinkie Pie’s ability to predict the future, Twilight Sparkle follows her around in
order to uncover the source of her incredible abilities.
Episode 116: Sonic Rainboom
When Twilight uses her magic to give Rarity wings so that she can watch Rainbow Dash
compete in a race, Rarity is so taken with her new ability that she disrupts the competition.
Episode 117: Stare Master (pka Fluster-shy)
Fluttershy offers to babysit the Cutie Mark Crusaders but quickly discovers that they are more than she can handle.
Episode 118: The Show Stoppers
The Cutie Mark Crusaders sign up for a talent show hoping to discover their true life meaning and finally earn their cutie marks.
Episode 119: A Dog and Pony Show
While hunting in the woods for gems for a new dress, Rarity is taken by a group of greedy
Diamond Dogs and forced to find jewels for them.
Episode 120: Green Isn’t Your Color
Rarity recruits Fluttershy as a model in hopes of impressing a famous designer with her dresses, but it’s Fluttershy’s modeling career that takes off instead!
Episode 121: Over a Barrel
The ponies work to settle a complicated land dispute between the Apple-loosans and a herd of buffalo fighting over the same territory.
Episode 122: A Bird in the Hoof
Without asking permission, Fluttershy borrows the Princess’s sick bird in order to heal it, and
the ponies must work together to get it back before she notices.
Episode 123: The Cutie Mark Chronicles
Frustrated with their lack of success, The Cutie Mark Crusaders seek out Twilight and the rest of the ponies to learn the stories of how they got their cutie marks.
Episode 124: Owl’s Well That Ends Well
When Twilight becomes friends with an Owl who helps her around the house with chores, Spike becomes jealous and fears he will be replaced.
Episode 125: Party of One
Confused and discouraged, Pinkie Pie goes on a mission to find out why her friends are avoiding her most recent party invitation.
Episode 126: The Best Night Ever
Expectations are high for the Grand Galloping Gala but when the ponies arrive they find that their individual interests in the Gala are not all they had hoped for.
201 - The Return of Harmony – Part 1:
The peace of Equestria is threatened when Discord, a mischievous spirit of disharmony, escapes from his imprisonment in stone. Twilight and her friends must defeat him using the Elements of Harmony. If only they can find them!
202 – The Return of Harmony – Part 2:
Discord’s mischief causes a rift between the six friends and
renders the Elements of Harmony useless. Twilight needs to rekindle their friendship in order to use the Elements against Discord.
203 – Lesson Zero:
Hyper-organized Twilight panics when she can’t find a lesson about friendship for her weekly letter to Princess Celestia.
204 – Luna Eclipsed:
It’s Nightmare Night and the macabre celebrations are in full swing when Luna
herself shows up in Ponyville, determined to change her frightening public image.
205 – Sisterhooves Social:
Sweetie Belle disowns Rarity as her sister when she refuses to participate in a rough and tumble celebration of sisterly unity.
206 – The Cutie Pox:
Apple Bloom finally gets her Cutie Mark! But joy turns to panic as she gets as second, then a third, then a dozen cutie marks.
207 – May the Best Pet Win! (formerly known as “The Tortoise & the Mare”):
Rainbow Dash holds a flying race to determine who will win the honor of being her pet.
208 – The Mysterious Mare Do Well:
A new masked avenger is stealing Rainbow Dash’s thunder as Ponyville’s resident hero.
209 – Sweet and Elite:
During a successful trip to Canterlot, Rarity has to choose between the important social connections she’s made in the capitol and her uncouth Ponyville friends.
210 – Secret of My Excess (formerly known as “Attack of the 50 Foot Dragon”):
Spike’s birthday gifts activate his greedy dragon instincts and cause an outrageous growth spurt that threatens to destroy all of Ponyville.
211 – Family Appreciation Day:
Apple Bloom does everything she can think of to stop Granny Smith from speaking to her class and causing everlasting embarrassment.
213 – Hearth’s Warming Eve:
The six friends are honored to put on Canterlot’s most important play of
the season, the Hearth’s Warming Eve’s holiday pageant that illustrates how Unicorns, Pegasi and Earth Ponies put aside their differences and founded Equestria.

Party of One is my favorites... but pretty much all of them save for a few, very few. I'm excited for the V-day episode regardless of the content of said new episode.

ReplyDeleteIt's just a "turning point" episode for me, and I recognize it marked itself as the episode where "the game" was changed up for the show's format.

I'm a little disappointed that several Fluttershy episodes get killed by that standard. But I ended up voting for "At the Gala". Great song and Flutterage - what's not to love?

Since Lesson Zero and Luna Eclipsed seem to be doing well, I am going to cast my vote for The Best Night Ever. I mean, it has one of the best songs on the show and Flutterage, what more could you want? This way, you can vote for your top episodes. Of course, some ponies would probably cheat and vote for the same episode in all the tabs.

ReplyDeleteI'm kind of scared of the new episode "Hearts and Hooves" and its coinciding theme. For some reason for majority of the shows I watch, I lose interest in the heroine(s) once they establish a relationship with a newly introduced love interest. I'd rather have (And not know) the main 6 to not have a desirable significant other. It keeps expectations stretched out wide and not squeezed into a tiny bottle neck. Oh well, there's no synopsis yet. I'm crossing my fingers..

As much as I loved Luna Eclipsed, Feeling Pinkie Keen, Lesson Zero, and Secret of My Excess, I have to go with the episode that made me fall in love with Pinkie Pie: Party of One. She was so cute all throughout that episode (especially that insanely cute basket hat), had a surprising depth to her character, and her breakdown after her (false) realization that her friends had (not really) abandoned her really made me want to just give her a hug and tell her everything will be ok.
ReplyDeleteUltimately, everything about Pinkie harkens back to the good ol' days of the Warner Bros. era of animation in the '90s. Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pinkie and the Brain, Freakazoid, and so many others. She really is the lost Loony Toon.
Also: honorary mention goes to Sonic Rainboom, for being the episode that finally pushed me over the edge and made me a brony back in the day. Any show that has the hardcore cred to whip out a Challenger 1985 reference in its musical track automatically gets my approval. Heck, there was plenty of music that evoked Gradius all throughout that episode. 5 star. Would watch again.

do Well" episode, though I think the reveal could have
been better !(spoilerz)! Personally I thought Trixie would have made more sense because then it would show she had learned her lesson about humility. I think the only episode so far I've actually hated has been "Griffin the Brush off", and even that episode has some hilarious moments.
I advise you reboot the voting seth and allow multiple choices, mainly because /v/ is doing a raid (P.S. Feeling Pinkie Keen was decided as the series worst episode guys. Mare do Well is not a great episode but it's not a terrible one.) But also because only voting for one (which I chose Bridle Gossip) sucks and I wish I could vote for more.

ReplyDeleteMare do well's definitely the worst written episode, but it's not "omg horrible!!11!" Visually it was great; the costume is friggin awesome from a design standpoint. I love the darkwing duck look
ReplyDeleteI'd definitely rank lesson zero and feein' pinkie keen below it, if only because watching those episodes fills me with literal physical pain. I've only been able to stomach those episodes twice each, and hope never to see them again. Mare do well's boring, but past the hydro electric power plant, nothing about it makes me want to stab myself.
Generally, when it comes to bad episodes, the show has virtually none of them, almost all of them are good. It's just that of them, if you were to get a worst of list, Feeling Pinkie Keen, Over a Barrel and Mysterious Mare do Well almost always seem to show up on it.

In fact, I would have polled this at Bronycon to be honest. Get everyone who went there to put down 20 of the episodes, it may not be fully representative of the whole community, but it does representive part of the majorly dedicated community, but I digress, I still think Multiple Choice is better than a single one. And I still find it funny that, even if the raid is voting, it's still losing to Lesson Zero.

It's not technically my least favourite, it's what most of my friends say is there least favourite, and it seems to stem from them not liking the moral of the episode or how on earth Pinkie Pie even got Pinkie Sense and how irrelevant it seems in the series (It's second appearance being in Mare do well Anyway does not help.)
ReplyDeleteBut regardless, I think it should be rebooted for one sole reason alone. What if after watching Family Appreciation Day, it suddenly turns out to be everyones favourite episode? Everyone would have to revote again just to vote for it. Now on premise alone the episode is already beating Ticket Master and Owl's Well. But if it does become the new top favourite and everyone will want to vote for it. You might as well throw out the current poll and start the poll again.

100% of my hate is due to the writer shoving "faith" and "belief" down the audience's throat. I actually like Twilight being arrogant and prideful... I do NOT like the "leap of faith" scene (hello? teleport!), or the wording of the moral. Fix those two things (all it needs is a little rewording and the episode's about pride instead of belief, a much better moral) and it'd be a pretty good episode... the "pinkie sense" thing is pretty neat, IMO.
For Lesson Zero:
It's not my kind of comedy, at all. "Over the top" is a complement to some people, but to me it denotes something trying waaaaaay too hard to be ridiculous. Once you stop laughing at the jokes and just look at the story behind it, it's nothing but out of character moment followed by out of character moment. No comedy I've ever enjoyed stands on comedy alone... in fact no anything I've ever enjoyed stands on one schtick alone. Pure whatevers, be they comedy, drama, what have you, almost universally suck in my opinion. Such is the case with Lesson Zero. It has no virtues except one, comedy, and it's not a form of comedy I enjoy in the first place.
Also yes, I very much support rebooting the poll and giving everyone 20 votes. You'll get a much better spread of what everyone "overall" likes. With 1 vote, your second favorite episode is given as much a boost by your vote as your most hated episode.

ReplyDeleteI don't want to be super negative and all that, so here's why I voted for Fall Weather Friends (my favorite):
Character conflict. This episode is AWESOME at depicting the tension between AJ and rainbow. Both of them come off as jerks in their own way (though rainbow especially) and both are still sympathetic. Add on a pretty decent plot (look before you sleep had good character conflict too but the sleepover plot really brought it down), some good gags, cartoon physics shoutouts out looney tunes, and the superb ending scene, and you've got a friggin awesome episode.
Not perfect of course but gets damn close.
Shouldn't we get 20 votes rather than 1... to balance it out more.
ReplyDeletePlus I heard that 4chan got involved to swing the vote for Mare do Well (Since I'm sure the Hub will be interested to know what works for the fans, for example: Insane Ponies or Comic Hero Parodies).
20 or 10 votes to *different* episodes would make the results more clear. Plus trolls wouldn't know what else to vote for besides what they were tolled to do.
I voted for Sonic Rainboom, though that apparently seems to be one of the least popular choices.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw that Mysterious Mare Do-Well was ranking up so high I was genuinely happy! I really liked that episode, so seeing it on the possible top 20 cheered me up. Then I realized it was trolls acting, and I found it hilarious. So their plan to "ruin" us is to vote "en mass" for an episode that they think the fanbase considers the worst? They kind of forgot that, even the worst MLP:FiM episode is still awesome, so their attempt at trolling is blowing in their twisty-nose, mouth-breathing faces.
I say, keep voting for MMDW, because that episode kicked ass, and was a lot of fun. Yes, it wasn't precisely well written, but the action in it was awesome! And it's always cool to have Dash getting lectured.

It could be worse, they could be voting for "Over a Barrell". But in the end, it's pointless. Even that episode is a ton of fun. That plan doesn't even qualify as an attempt.

Heh, this must be the most pointless troll attack I've ever heard of. They're voting for one of my favorite episodes! Even if it's the most poorly-regarded episode by the fanbase so far, it still has plenty of fans. In fact, I don't think there is a single episode out there that doesn't have plenty of fans in it's own regard...that's the nice thing about having 20 episodes, ultimately there will be enough variety to satisfy all of us.

ReplyDeleteThe effect of this type of poll is that all people's favorites will get chosen. The secondary effect is that some episodes everyone agrees are excellent and solid, but aren't particularly our favorites, will not.
It's up to you whether we should try to find those solid episodes everypony likes (for example, by taking off the top 5 or so options and repolling at some point), or whether we want to get as many people's #1 episodes as possible.
Can we switch the poll over to the episode we DON'T want to see?
