Read this when it was posted to FimFiction. If any of you remember "Decay" it was written by the same guy. It's not an overly sad read, but it could make you a little teary eyed. I won't say anything further than to take a look for yourself.
VastaKustutaHoly hell, this was quite the awesome story. Thank you E.D. for making my day better
VastaKustutaNot overly sad, yes, but it does hit you where you live. Good lesson as well.
VastaKustutaI just read this a few hours earlier. Manly tears were.... almost shed. ;D Great story, and now I want to read Decay, too...
VastaKustutaPeter Pan. The tale of the boy who never grew up. That's all I think about when I hear about/read growing old stories.
VastaKustutaA good and well-written story. I found that the last few paragraphs were largely unnecessary - it could have ended with [spoilers] thanking Princess [spoilers]. OTOH the notion of using Spike's long sleep was a great idea used to good effect.
VastaKustutaManly years were had. Just so sad. Great story!
VastaKustutaAlight so I'm coming out with this, at the risk of sounding stupid like 3 months ago I was reading the crossover where Rainbow Dash had an ancestry and it was the Fim crossover with Assasins Creed, I haven't seen it so I'm assuming it's complete but I don't know the name, anypony wanna help me??
VastaKustutaSpoilers for this story below!
VastaKustutaOkay, what happened to Spike? The story mentioned he was dying, or something, but don't dragons usually live for hundreds of years?
@Crosswing
The only Assassin's Creed/FiM crossover I could find is "Brotherhood Of The Moon". It's here on EqD, so do a search for it.
@YetAnorthBrony
VastaKustutaDragons need there space, they also need to horde stuff to grow. IF a dragon is kept in one place to long it losses all will to live so it much be set free. Yes even if it is the dragons will to never leave the place.
Hm. It was pretty good, though with as many FIMFiction prereaders as it had, I'd expect there to be no mistakes, yet there were a few.
VastaKustutaIt's hard to pinpoint where it happened, but the emo was laid on a bit too thickly after a point and I just started pulling away from the story emotionally. The story had no real counterpoints to emphasize the sad parts, so after a while, it just resulted in desensitization.
@vaarsuvius from what i gather in the story, Spike had to go and take a 100-year nap, which is vital to dragons' lives according to this story, and has been sleeping ever since and will continue to do so for ~50 years, since it says that about 50 years has passed since.
VastaKustutaI was not expecting to see my art used for a story post. O_O
VastaKustutaThat said, I may have to check this out.
cancer is a bitch
VastaKustutaWhy you make me tear up in my history class?
VastaKustutaI'm glad I'm still sitting in my room before class. I would have had to explain to my instructor why I was tearing up during a lecture on the finer parts of a digital camera.
VastaKustutaHmm ... love and tolerance for Thyrai, because I really liked Decay, but I wasn't a fan.
VastaKustutaThe story struck me as a "sadfic", which is fine, except I didn't find it all that sad. I thought it was all a little obvious and not really very deep. I appreciate what it was trying to do, but I wasn't so sure of the final result.
I read this on FimFiction too and I wish I didn't. Infinite sadness :(
VastaKustutaI love this story, and I loved Decay. I personally believe that, to really get the sadness of this story, you have to have read Decay. There are quite a few subtle nods to that story in this one, and I find that they add a poignant layer to this story
VastaKustutaI've read this type of story thousands of times.
VastaKustutaThere isn't even a neat twist here to make it new or exciting. Just the same old "Everyone died. How sad."
A year ago this would have made me a bit emotional. Now I laughed.
3 stars.
@CrosswingBrotherhood of the moon
VastaKustutaMy heart is aching after this. An I never get sad reading this sort of thing. Props to the author for that accomplishment. It's amazing how much this community has altered my perception of these things.
VastaKustutaI cried. I just wanna scoop up my loved ones and never let them go. The tombstone part was the saddest. And it is a lesson. I liked it.
VastaKustutaEh. Y'all should know my opinion on sadfics by now. At least it's not as squicky as Decay. I wonder if the people who are fans of these stories actually enjoy feeling good in their lives. Sadfics as flagellation anyone?
VastaKustutaIt's been nearly a significant amount of time since my first comment, and I'm still hurting after this story. Reading things like this now adays makes me realize how short our mortal lives are. We can't go around wasting them. With that knowledge, and this community's basis, I can only see myself bettering myself in the future.
VastaKustutaI knew I would cry when I started reading this story, so I can't even blame anyone for this, right? *sniff* Yes, the concept is not new by any stretch, but if author has managed to make me feel something while reading story, he's doing things the right way. Pure emotions are such a rarity (no pun intended) in our daily lives... 5 stars
VastaKustutaIt's interesting that Twilight is always portrayed as the last living member of the mane cast in this type of the story (excluding princesses and Spike). Do people assume the magic grants her longevity? Or do they use Twilight because internal monologuing suits her the best?
5stars, man. You made me cry.
