    2. No shipping? What is this madness?!

    3. AJ fic? no shipping? no RariJack? no AppleDash?

      WHAT?

      VastaKustuta
    4. Read this on FimFiction a while ago. Great fun, great adventure, great character interaction, and a lot of character development between Applejack and Twilight.

      VastaKustuta
    5. AJ fic with no shipping? I love this author, love love love love love love love. I normally don't read fics, but just because you did that, I think I might have to.

    6. The comments are already making me laugh.

If you guys have any comments or questions, just leave a message either here or on the fimfiction page, and I'll try to respond.

    7. I like the part where it says ''Additional tags: AJ fic with no shipping''

      VastaKustuta
    8. well i only read this in order to read the shipping sequel to it ;D

      VastaKustuta
    9. I read this on FiMfiction a while back, then proceeded to favorite the story. It's a good solid read, and there's no shipping!

But the shipping sequel after it is pretty good too.

      VastaKustuta
    10. @ndrazzar - I simply had to include that. Mostly because it was funny, but also because it's true. We don't really get AJ-centric fics with no shipping.

And yes, based upon the other comments, there is indeed a sequel to this fic. Be advised, it's a ship fic, and I know that isn't everyone's cup of tea. Regardless, I hope you folks enjoy the story!

becoming better friends. it just never progresses to actual love.

maybe to platonic love, but never romantic love.

I'd be more interested in reading this if it was shipping because that's about the only thing i read.

The sequel to this fic is shipping, an AppleSparkle fic. One of the rarer pairings within the fandom, from what I've heard.

Reading this isn't necessarily required in order to read the sequel, but I certainly recommend it - the sequel makes quite a few references to this fic, and there's a good deal of characterization and relationship building as well.

ic, thanks. I guess I'm the opposite. I'd like to see more Friendshipping, although I don't mind shipping if it's not erotic.

    14. That fic was just epic.

    15. I too read this a while ago on FimFiction. I highly recommend it. Vargras pays good attention to character development and "scene painting" (I don't know how else to describe it; you know, the picture that gets formed in the mind's eye). Plot development is well thought out and the charcters are not suddenly thrown into a situation like many fics tend to do.

In short; please go read. You won't be disappointed.

    16. this is a pretty familiar story

    17. I just read this whole thing over the weekend and had a blast with it... A good quest story where the two friends have to rely on each other repeatedly and learn more about each other on the way. Good stuff!

I dove right into the sequel even though I'm not much for shipping, and that's been good as well.

    18. Given the nature of a portion of the fan base, I was expecting a story about Sweet Apple on hard times, called "Forbidden Fruit", to be about Applejack selling her body to save the farm. While I'm not a big fan of magic trees, it's great to see an author taking the high road. I'll certainly give this a try.

Same here. I trust Vargras' writing and the sequel has been good so far.

Heh, when I first started writing this, part of me wondered how many folks would misinterpret it based upon title alone.

      Turns out, not that many.

      VastaKustuta
    21. @ClosetBrony

Good to know. I wasn't sure if I would read the sequel. Of course, I need the read this first, but I like to think ahead.

    22. @the invincible

Yeah, that's what I thought at first, basically.

    23. @Lord Elliott

It's my first attempt at a ship fic, but I plan on keeping it pretty clean. I don't really like going into explicit detail.

      VastaKustuta
    24. @the invincible

Far from it. It's a good, ole' Adventure/Quest story.

      VastaKustuta
    25. @Vargras *yay*
And yeah, I've read it too and loved it, AJ is unappreciated, all that jazz. And the character (crap I can't mention unless spoilers) from the ruins is really awesome and mysterious, if there was a story about life unfolding in front of him, the choices he had to make over those ponies, him with Celestia etc., I'd read it in a heartbeat.

      VastaKustuta
    26. Wow. Such a splendid story! You did a great job in capturing AJ and Twilight's characters and making the whole story engaging. Well done!

      VastaKustuta
    27. That title makes it sound like a clopfic. ಠ_ಠ

      VastaKustuta
    28. @Freaky

Ahh, yes. I'm aware of that. The title is quite literal, however!

Besides, EQD doesn't accept clopfics, so you already know that it couldn't be one.

      @zaptiftun

      Thank you for the praise!

      VastaKustuta
    29. You wrote Hiatus.
      Automatic read.

      VastaKustuta
    30. Very well done. I saw it on Fimfiction, but you can't really trust the ratings there, a 4.8 there can be anything from a 3.5 to 4.9 here. But this was a good adventure story, it felt a bit like a smaller version of "Dangerous business" or "Off the edge of the map".

One thing that irked me was the crossing of the river. The first time there was not even a mention of teleportation and I wondered about that for quite a while. You explained the problem the second time, but still forgot to include that there was a third option: Fly over it. Twilight can has wings!

      VastaKustuta
    31. @Acriaos

I had another reader ask the same question.

Teleporting two ponies at once probably takes more effort than simply crossing a bridge (though it became anything BUT simple). As for the flying, I know a lot of pegasi within the show are often seen carrying other ponies or other fairly heavy objects, but Twilight didn't exactly have normal wings to begin with. Not sure if she could pull off such a feat.

      VastaKustuta
    32. @Vargras
I don't mind them not doing those things, your explanation is fine to me. I can even think of a dozen other reasons they have to use the bridge / teleport. The problem is, you don't give your explanation in the story itself, only in the comments. Does Applejack know the dangers of teleportation? Does she know, Twilight can't carry her? In my opinion, no, she does not, therefore it should have been brought up.

      VastaKustuta
    33. @Acriaos
A fair point. Looking back on it now, there was a lot I could have improved upon. You never stop learning how to write, after all.
