Fine, but maybe tying Seth up was a little too much......nah.
ReplyDeletewhat? o.o
ReplyDeleteI find it odd that Wikipedia kept the mobile version completely functional, but then, I suppose that'd be better than nothing.
ReplyDeleteGood, I hope you don't post. Show those bloody SOPA-tards what complete crap their bill is.
ReplyDeleteLast. Because they killed the internet.
ReplyDeleteSo no ED for an entire day?
ReplyDeleteFun fact for people who visit later: the banner was updated before this blog post was made.
ReplyDeleteAll the pony sites are down and I can't get my fix! DX
ReplyDeleteThis is the 5th site I know that is doing this.
ReplyDeleteherp derp internet protest internet blogs fight the power illuminati US government peak oil derp herp derp
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant way for Seth to finally catch up on his sleep debt!
ReplyDeleteIf you stay true to this, I'll draw you some Trixie art, because I'll have so much free time thanks to not visiting EqD.
No clue what I'd draw exactly, besides it being Trixie... but I need practice so I'll figure it out anyway
@Aidinthel Noticed that while I was on the Skyrim post.
ReplyDeleteDidn't expect EqD to do much for the blackout day, but upon finding that it is, this is SO AWESOME. :D Hell yes.
ReplyDeletePhoe, Cereal, Tek, PK, Calpain, guys- your time has come.
ReplyDeleteDOWN WITH SOPA! I first head about this bill awhile ago. I hope it's banished to a black hole. I can't believe our stupid legislatures would be willing to give airtime to something like this.
ReplyDeleteisn't tomorrow the black out?
ReplyDeleteYou should see what 4chan did. All the posts are spoiler'd, which probably makes it really annoying for the posters.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how this is a good protest, unless there's a large group of Bronies in Congress who would be upset.
ReplyDelete@Omar It's already tomorrow in the east and central time zones.
ReplyDeleteHaha, are you taking a day off seth? I thought you were joking! I'm ok with this
ReplyDelete@Purim
ReplyDeleteThis I can do standing on my body or what is likely known as a head.
I've got video games for other forms of entertainment.
@Omar
ReplyDeleteIt IS tomorrow, at least where I am. I'm in Central Time (GMT -6) and it's half-past midnight.
I should go to bed... ciao!
um.... yay?
ReplyDeleteSeth, go get sleep. now.
Trixie tied Sethisto up? Are you guys sure this isn't just one of Seth's fanfics?
ReplyDeleteSOPA is evil just like Trixie.
ReplyDeletePoor Seth
This is why ee can't have nice things
ReplyDelete@Mattatatta
ReplyDeleteIt's 1:30 a.m. here. EST.
I have class in 6 hours.

ReplyDeleteProTip: Ctrl + A
as if this blog is popular enough to elicit any sort of attention whatsoever. i understand the power of numbers, but specifically you all are not changing anything. no offense intended, of course
ReplyDelete@wackypony i thought that Phoe was the only one who could sleep will tied up!
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeletemay i inquire who 'ee' is?
tommorrow's going to be a really boring internet day. i'll have to develop a life. or something that closely approximates one.
ReplyDeleteWell SOPA got put shelved and won't be presented to the board without a majority consensus. For now it is sounding more like they will pass the other one but only if they can make a bill that won't impede small business and fair use on the internet.
ReplyDeleteAt least that those petitions raining in to the white house finally got the president a few days ago to act as a mediator to the chaos around this bill. I was going to post the news page then but didn't think you wanted to be bothered by that stuff when you were on AoE III :P
Well, if this goes on for the next 24 hours, I might actually get some sleep.
ReplyDeleteGood Night, Everypony!
@wackypony *we
ReplyDeleteSolidarity!
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll read a book or something.
Seth, let's be real here, what you're doing is going dark for a day, without warning, on a blog about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
ReplyDeleteHow about you instead tell everyone to contact their congressman and senator, and make an actual difference, instead of practicing slacktivism.
Taking the day off is not going to beat these bills.
I respect and support this.
ReplyDelete@wackypony That's assuming he survives "blog update withdrawal."
ReplyDeleteSounds like I'll have more time to play Portal 2 tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteBut anyway hurray blackouts, down with SOPA/PIPA, etc, etc.
Now back to homework :\
You do realize that pretty much everyone who uses the internet is already against SOPA, right? I just don't get why evry damn site on the internet feels the need to shut down all at once just to preach to people who already agree with them.
ReplyDeleteI beseech you oh great and powerful Trixie, please untie Seth.
ReplyDeleteI'll settle for a little later, like say, early afternoon if possible. :3
But really though, I like the banner and showing anti support for SOPA.
@fourteks1
ReplyDeletebut we all know where to find petitions.
I NEED MY FUCKING DALY FIX OF PONYS!!!!! ILL DESTROY U ALLL!!! or ill go play some pony mimigames, BUT SOMEDAY ILL DESTROY THE ENTIRE WOLRD!! and create one new with ponys :3
ReplyDeleteOh BTW, if you want to get around the whole Wikipedia thing.
ReplyDeleteJust turn off all scripts.
The NoScript plugin does that for FireFox.
Interesting that the more computer literate can get around the Protest, but those who aren't get the message they REALLY need.
I'm not sure if that's elitist or l33t.
@wackypony indeed.
ReplyDelete@fourteks1 He's done that..........multiple times.......
Meanwhile, seth is having the time of his life..
ReplyDeleteSOPA is evil just like Trixie.
ReplyDeletePoor Seth
Uuuuh, you mean Wednesday right? If so that sucks, but if it must be done in protest of SOPA and PIPA let it be so. Guess that means I can focus on school and work tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteSo, I guess we're either posting here or taking to the chats, huh?
ReplyDeleteArgh. Damn you SOPA!!!! Give us back our BlogPonies!!!!
ReplyDeleteSome of us have a craving that needs satisfying... :P
oh great and powerful trixie, please banish SOPA AND PIPA
ReplyDeleteI support this Seth. Go for it.
ReplyDeleteGo and drive SOPA...TO THE MOOOOOOOON!!!
sethisto x TGAPT bondage?
ReplyDeletenot sure if want
I don't like SOAP... Oh! i don't like SOPA ether...
ReplyDeleteAgreed on the leaving a message for congressmen contact. Otherwise, what's the point? The idea is that everyone affected by the blackout goes on to bug the higher ups to put an end to this and give us back our ponies.
ReplyDeleteAlso, this is his way of making up for Christmas.
Also also, there is the issue with all the international bronies affected by this but not US politics. Idunno how the other sites handle that issue, though, so whatever.
@ZeroHero i have found that commenting on old posts with friends is quite useful- hey, didn't you used to comment with us?
ReplyDelete@Dͪ͊ͦḮ̘ͯS̔̐̓C̹̔Ò͓͙̫R̀͠͞D͙̫
ReplyDeletebut you like making roads into soap.
I love the fact that so many websites are coming together to stop this, it makes me feel like everyone on the internet is united in a small way.
ReplyDeleteBut on the other hand... NOOOOO I CANNOT GO A FULL DAY WITHOUT THIS SITE!!!!!!!!
Oh well, it'll all be worth it in the end.:)
@Bombedrumbum Do you intend to turn this into another post marathon? Not that it's a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteThe part I find amusing is thinking doing silly pointless shit like this will actually make a difference.
ReplyDeleteTrixie will lead the waaaaaa~~~~aaaaughhhyghhagdf! XD
ReplyDelete@wackypony
ReplyDeleteThat's because I hate roads
@Marrock
ReplyDeleteYou'd be surprised at how big of a difference awareness makes. There are a lot of people out there who have no clue what SOPA/PIPA is.

DOWN WHIT SOPA!
"Today?" At the time of the post, "today" only had 30 minutes left.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how effective this is, but Google has a petition you guys can sign if you all are interested:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/
Every little bit that can be done against SOPA and PIPA helps in my opinion.
Certainly don't like SOPA but... um.. my nightly story updates. D:
ReplyDeleteCurse you Trixie!
we need to throw the SOPA to the moon before its to late :(
ReplyDeleteHey look, a whole day for the blog crew to actually sleep.
ReplyDeleteYou asshats who are saying this is a bad idea. Apparently you don't seem to be able to wrap your heads around the concept, so I'll lay it out. Seth isn't doing this thinking Congress is going to go "Oh shit EQD's down."
ReplyDeleteThe point is to get the REST of you to realize that this is a fraction of a shadow of a taste of what we'll lose if the SOPA/PIPA comes to pass. You might want to "herp derp" it all you like, but you won't HAVE a place to herp derp anyone if this goes through. This affects all of us in the deepest of ways, so stop bitching and DO something about it.

I hope everyone who lives in the United States does the same. Speak up, let your voice be heard!

I think it should be mentioned that SOPA is already being sent to the moon: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/jan/16/sopa-shelved-obama-piracy-legislation
ReplyDelete@CharginChuck
ReplyDeleteYou'd be surprised how many people are totally oblivious to anything on the Internet that doesn't involve them personally.
The point is to remind you to get mad and take that mad out on Congress who are imperiling our Internet freedom. And perhaps to hammer the oblivious with multiple exposures until they get un-oblivious and take an interest in keeping the Internet free.
I'm a little surprised Seth didn't post something a bit more to the point about SOPA, given that sites that involve fanfic and other fan creative endeavors like EQD are especially in danger from SOPA, as nobody can argue we don't infringe on Hasbro's copyrights dozens of times a day.
So, as fans of someone else's property, it really is in our own best interest that we get mad and tell Congress where they can stick SOPA. Don't be in the position of the man who didn't speak up until they came for him.
@Dͪ͊ͦḮ̘ͯS̔̐̓C̹̔Ò͓͙̫R̀͠͞D͙̫
ReplyDeletewhy do you torture me auto correct???
Right, I did something to my pony game that I made a few month ago. Can check it out here:
ReplyDeleteSOPA Filly Adventure
@Flutterboss Don't count on it. Congress is going to consider SOPA again in February, and it's always possible they might decide it's important enough to override Presidential veto.
ReplyDeleteO yeah the blackout i heard about this. hehe a day without EqD i can handle that hehe ill be fine. Haha i can just do other things ... sure yeah got bunch of other stuff to do, sure. Its not like i come here to this site all day or anything... what time is it?
ReplyDeleteWasn't the SOPA already pulled back two days ago due to the enormous backlash it had against any company that backed it?
ReplyDeletePoor Seth... Trixie, we all support the blackout to protest SOPA, but was that really necessary?
ReplyDeleteSo you mean I can actually get something productive done?
ReplyDeleteYAY!
@Flutterguy
ReplyDeleteThat's an understatment for the first sign of the apocalypse.
Oh Luna. Oh Celestia. Oh Faust. I need my pony fix. I can't go on without my pony fix.
ReplyDeleteWHY'D YOU HAVE TO DO THIS SETH. THIS IS LIKE RIPPING ME FROM METH YOU FOAL. YOU DID THIS TO ME. WATCH AS OTHERS FALL NOW ALONGSIDE ME. FEEL HAPPY?
...
Ok, seriously. Good job on you guys for staying with all of the sane ones. Cause you know, letting 55+ers who probably can't tell what half the stuff these "youngsters" tell them to punch in while using those "doodads that make my handwriting clearer" is totally an excellent way of managing the internet.
I noticed the google doodle earlier today.
ReplyDeleteSOOOOPPPPAAAA!! D:<
ReplyDeleteI still think it would be rather interesting if google/youtube joined in on the blackout day.
ReplyDeleteI'll see you in a day I guess, not much reason to visit today then.
Keep an eye on Seth Trixie he may escape and try and make a post...
I think the moon is much to close to banish SOPA too... How about we banish it to the sun instead?

ReplyDelete@ombutescentdin Yeah. Burn!
ReplyDelete@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeleteOr just banish it to another galaxy entirely.
@Calpain Thanks Calpain! Gonna do that now. Btw, how come you don't have a bio or an OC pony on the character page?
ReplyDeleteI just know shawn likes it
ReplyDeleteTrixie totally should have done this last Christmas.
ReplyDeleteSOPA, you've gone too far. You do NOT, I REPEAT NOT, censor my ponies. THERE IS A LINE, SOPA. you've crossed it.
ReplyDeleteSOPA IS NOT DEAD!!!! It's still alive and kicking; PIPA is still alive and kicking. THEY. AREN'T. DEAD.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it I have the feeling that Seth doesn't mind being tied up one bit? ;P
ReplyDeleteSo, how long until we get the Seth/Trixie bondage fic?
ReplyDelete*ba-dum-tish*
@TechnoTrot SMH
ReplyDelete@Twilight Ketchum
ReplyDeletegood name I must say
also you think dirty... or is it I who thinks dirty?....
@PurplePony
ReplyDeleteIt's a work in progress. I didn't have an OC when I joined the team so one is in development as is the bio.
Thanks for checking out the petition!
what? no more ponies FOR A WHOLE DAY!?!?!?!? this..... isn't gonna be easy. at least i have the opportunity to try the new skyrim horse mod
ReplyDelete@BlightedAI They've blacked out their logo and have a link to information on it, which is good. If google actually went full-blackout, it would be *worse* because people wouldn't be able to find out more information about it, and stop caring about why their favourite sites are down.
ReplyDeleteSimilarly, its better if facebook and twitter stay out of this mess, and let people start chatting away with each other.
Its scary to come here and see censored ponies. Don't do that again. Nearly gave me a heart attack.
ReplyDeleteJust out of curiosity... Is it possible to make a new internet?
ReplyDeleteMan I sure do hope it's not passed.
ReplyDelete@Ismaldi4ever I wasn't scared. I just had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't seeing things.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I read that Wiki article on the SOPA and PIPA bills earlier. Various sites are doing that blackout thing for today.
ReplyDeleteBut awww, no pony all day today? D: well, if any day would be good for it, it'd be today. It's for a good cause at least.
@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteYes i did. I've been meaning to get back to you guys about my absence. I'm real sorry for leaving. I was just going through alot of turmoil in the life and was just trying to get through it all over the holidays.
I'd love to get back into the group again, if you'll let me. :)
Now we know. The reason they made skyrim was in preparation for this difficult day if pony withdrawal. All the other elder scrolls were just testing.
ReplyDelete@Wytham
ReplyDeleteYeah, I found out that was horribly wrong. My bad.
It's about time Seth took a break.
ReplyDeleteHa, that banner
ReplyDelete@ombutescentdin
ReplyDeleteMeshnet www.reddit.com/r/darknetplan/
@PegasusGoshey
ReplyDeleteI think the point is to get U.S. Bronies to take action against the bill. I doubt Seth expects congress to care that EqD is blacked out.
@Miningpyropony
ReplyDeleteSo we're going the 'Megaman Battle Network' route?
You know shit's getting real when Seth freezes EQD for a day.
ReplyDeleteThe man's got a plan.
@Aeolus I doubt I'll be going through withdrawal. I've got a long list of fanfics waiting to be read, plus I'm still practicing my drawing. Not to mention I need to watch an episode a day. So it'll be far from withdrawal for me.
ReplyDeleteIf that petition wasn't just for Americans I would sign it. I've been trying to spread awarness of the bill as much as possible though. I think this is what the blackout will do best. Almost noone I knew IRL knew about the bill until I told them, I don't think many of them realise how serious it is still. Hopefully if they see Wikipedia itself is lockedout they will understand how it will affect them.
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't pass that not only american are against it pretty much the whole world is against it
ReplyDeletethe other day I was trying to get some attention against SOPA in a spanish speaking site and a lot of people from Spain, Mexico and many Latin american sites are showing their support
actually the bill has already been "cancelled" by Obama.
ReplyDeleteJust hit refresh and cancel before it goes to the blackout screen.
ReplyDeleteProblem solved.
@CityFlyer502
ReplyDeleteHey I was guna draw and read fics all day too! Figured I would get better at drawing if thats what I did for at least 12hours tomorrow XD
The sad part is that most of the old geezers up there discussing it are the people who have no fucking idea what it does!
ReplyDelete(See:Grandparents who hassle their kids for help using Facebook)
Occupy Canterlot?
ReplyDeleteagreed
ReplyDelete@ombutescentdin Well, I'm mostly gonna be doing drawing. Mostly working on drawing faster and more accurately.
ReplyDeleteI deeply apologize for posting something not related to SOPA/PIPA, but the SOPA protest was a poor coincidence with the fact that I have been given the opportunity by NASA's Mission: Discovery program to send any files wished to the moon with the rest of a group via a lunar time capsule with digital memory drives.
ReplyDeleteI wish to set up a collection of messages from bronies around the world to get put on the moon, so our legacy shall reach out into the future, and hopefully be found by Luna.
@FlutterMagic
ReplyDeleteYeah. Wrong.
@Calpain I signed it too. And stop whining guys. Let's give Seth and his crew a day off. We'll survive a day without EqD.
ReplyDelete@CharginChuck Not quite every one that uses the internet knows about SOPA/PIPA. Let alone actually realize just how far reaching those bills could be. After all, there are a lot of people that don't care about something until it inconveniences them in someway.
ReplyDeleteA great example of people not really caring about stuff that doesn't directly affect them was WWII. Just think of how many people ignored what was going on just because it did not involve them?
First Wikipedia, now ED. All for bills that don't have a chance in hell of passing. A little research and you'd find that a similar bill was created a couple years ago . Ever heard of COICA? No? Well it was a bill from 2010 that was LESS draconain that SOPA. It didn't pass was oppossed by the same people who oppose SOPA and didn't have the public backlash that SOPA has. So what chance in hell does SOPA have?
ReplyDelete@fourteks1: I agree. Seth needs to do more than just stop updating and use a "censorship" banner. He needs to explain why and give links to where people can learn more.

@XyroTR1 Thanks for the links. Is there any chance these can be placed somewhere more visible? Not sure how many people will be scrolling down here.
ReplyDeleteIm okay with this.
ReplyDeleteBeing adamantly opposed to SOPA, I approve of the internet-wide protests going on as we speak.
ReplyDeleteLet's bring this thing down guys. We may each just be one person, but together, signing petitions and spreading the word, we're a force to be reckoned with. :)
tying up seth? really? ...ok.

ReplyDeleteThe political rhetoric and gamesmanship in the past couple of years has gotten more extreme. It doesn't matter what happened a couple years ago; irresponsible people always think they know better.
Good job Seth! We all support you and everyone else who's doing his. Down with SOPA.
ReplyDelete@XyroTR1 Great links :) This is most definitely an important issue, and spreading the word is the best thing we can do.
ReplyDeleteCorrect me if I'm wrong, but wasn't SOPA already dropped by Congress because the White House said they'd never pass it in its current form?
ReplyDelete@Ryan
ReplyDeleteSOPA's gonna be revisited in February, and PIPA may be debated as soon as next week.

ReplyDeleteDun. Dun. DUN.
@Brian
ReplyDeleteThe bigger question is why is someone persisting in passing these bills when no one wants them to? What exactly is their end goal? Because I doubt stopping piracy is the end goal, politics is more cutthroat then that. What exactly would someone get out of making these bills pass? It's targeting more then piracy and it's too much coincidence to have happened more then once.
I think it's a form of 'filibuster tactic', that to a point eventually it will by passed in it's entirety in a very convoluted way.
To explain someone would try to work down to what they can get away with. Then in very small bits and pieces they pass parts of the bill that seem harmless one piece at a time.
Once they pass enough pieces of the bill. all the pieces from multiple bills will coallesce into the very meaning of the bill that people are trying to stop.
If this is true then someone is sleeping at the wheel.
@Cátsy
ReplyDelete... its to horrible!!!
If I cant Spread my chaos on the Internets ware would I go with it?
@D. Shadows
ReplyDeleteAnd we're going to fight these bills by doing exactly what were trying to prevent? Wikipedia's main page says
Imagine a World
Without Free Knowledge
I don't have to imagine it, I'm being denied it right now.
I remember a bill that I'm not sure if it got shelved or not that would have a database of 18 months of web activity and records for every user as provided by the ISP.
ReplyDeleteAnd it was to protect children from pornography LOL
Either someone up there isn't thinking enough or someone really wants to limit the internet.
@Brian
ReplyDeleteThat's the beauty of it.
@Brian It's to show what might be if we sit around and do nothing. It's to get people to take action and tell these D.C. blowhards that this isn't the way. If we're upset now, what about if it happens? What if this is the reality we'd have to live with every day?
ReplyDelete@Brian
ReplyDeleteThey are like "You don't want this kind of thing to happen right?, So oppose to SOPA or this kind of thing will happen soon and permanently"

ReplyDeleteThe internet is chaos, there is nothing to spread. I should know, 'Newgrounds' exist after all.

ReplyDelete@D. Shadows
ReplyDeleteBut a little bit more chaos would never hurt.
@Dr_Vulpine
ReplyDelete...
We in the New Lunar Republic shall oppose this bill as well. Hell, it's worse than Justin Beiber or the Twilight movies/toilet paper. Hell, I'd rather listen to Rebecca Black's Friday on an endless loop during one of my longer college classes with no way to block it out then let SOPA pass.
ReplyDeleteHoorah.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a bill, yes it's only a bill
ReplyDeleteand it's sitting there on capitol hill
Ugh, more knee-jerk reactions to things that'll never happen. I've already removed Wikipedia from my list of search engines. If they can take it down on a whim, they're not a reliable resource. Everypony goes haywire every time someone suggests something they don't like.
ReplyDeleteSOPA and PIPA have taken away the only thing that makes me happy...for a whole 24 hours.
ReplyDeleteI'm pissed off now.
@Vipera: I suppose so!
ReplyDeleteNo EQD update for a whole day?
ReplyDeleteOh it is on SOPA.
i'm commander shepard and this is my favorite post on EQD.
ReplyDeleteThe Sopa thing is getting old....you dont need to black out anything in protest, just ignoring it and keep on doing what your doing is enough of a protest. The more attention you give it the more press and the higher the chance it could be passed.
ReplyDeleteBut it wont, as the political and finaceal implications for pushing this bill through are too high to ignor. So relax, chill and enjoy the ponies.
SOPA WILL FALL!!! Anything that keeps me away from my ponies must be destroyed immediately!
ReplyDeleteWell at least Seth gets a day off, the way the blog gets updated he must be flat out.
ReplyDeleteyea so I've made it a personal mission/running joke/neurotic tic of mine to smash Sethisto's balls to pieces with a Donkey Kong hammer in the comments at every opportunity...

thnx, Seth & EQD!
@Mouse
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think these things 'never happen', exactly?
They die because it's made abundantly clear to the politicians that they are inappropriate and unacceptable in the eyes of the voting public. These kind of actions are the *ONLY* option we have against the multi-million dollar American entertainment industry lobby.
So, I'm terribly sorry that you have to suffer 24 full hours of having to click through a few extra hyperlinks, disabling java-script, or going without random screwball PMVs and fanfics. But it's coordinated efforts like this that get the attention of the general public, and it takes a massive groundswell of public opposition to offset the potential millions of lobbying dollars thrown behind these bills - ESPECIALLY in an election year.
Piracy is not a problem that can be solved by legistlation, it is a problem that is solved by a change in business model.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/
I will be taking down all of my youtube content until saturday morning. Hoping to promote some more awareness.
Honestly I don't think it had any chance to begin with, but it's good to see the internet defending itself regardless.
ReplyDelete@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteWHO UNTIED YOU!!!
TRIXIE!!!
It didn't have any chance to begin with. The reason we're still hearing about it is because people like to feel as if they have some sway over how the country's run despite their vote not counting for jack.

ReplyDeleteI hope Trixie's feeding you well, Seth. I don't think pinecones sound very appetizing.
Wait. Shouldn't we be Loving and Tolerating it, while respecting the decisions of our leaders and trusting that they really do want whats best for us?
ReplyDeleteCool. Just came back from vacation. I have 10 days of news to look forward to tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteAlso F- SOPA/PIPA etc. Good going with this.
@Mouse
ReplyDelete#1 - Removed Wikipedia from your list of SEARCH ENGINES eh? lolololol
#2 - Yes, Wikipedia isn't a reliable source because they participated in the blackout. Not because anyone can edit it or anything LOL
#3 - Although I've traded constant political blogging for PONIES (and never been happier) I still follow politics more than the average American. And I can tell you that SOPA looked like it was on cruise control to quiet passage before the internet started playing grassroots hardball with Congress. The bill had major bi-partisan support and it was a safe assumption that Obama would sign it. Now Congress is getting nervous. Very nervous. You know what I call that? GODDAMN DEMOCRACY AT WORK.
#4 - Everypony goes haywire when you try to SCREW UP HOW THE INTERNET WORKS just because the Hollywood lobbys are butthurt about their traditional business model going up in smoke. For God's Sake, even Micro$oft is opposing SOPA. MICROSOFT! You know an anti-piracy bill is bad news if even MS don't want parts of it. Microsoft has prolly lost more money than ANYONE to piracy over the years.
@ZeroG
All the attention shined on SOPA is EXACTLY what's been bleeding out the bill.
Simply saying "don't worry, this bill is too dumb to become law" is a dangerous, foolish game.
@Brian
Your assertions do not bring me peace of mind. I want SOPA dead dead DEAD.
wikipedia works fine today if you just turn off javascript.
ReplyDeleteWhat if the bill passes?? Riots, riots everywhere
ReplyDelete@Sjosten
ReplyDeleteThat would be the easy thing. But not the right thing.
(to paraphrase a certain Stable-Dwelling unicorn pony....)
See what I mean?
ReplyDelete@Sjosten
ReplyDeleteThat's like loving and tolerating Discord wreaking havoc all over Equestria.
No. There are things in this world that we should be fighting for, your rights being among the list.
Honestly, I agree with anyone who's said it had little chance of passing. Anyone who thinks this is the first time such a bill as this has been presented must be pretty young. Or just hasn't been very aware. This wasn't the first, and I'm sure it won't be the last.
