Did you guess a magical potion that can grant you the ability to fly? I bet you didn't. Mostly because I don't have that. No, what I have instead is a songbook with all the lyrics and chords from all the songs from seasons 1 and 2!
Check out this copypasta under the break.
"CrayolaBrony here, with new versions of the Season One Songbook and Chordbook! They've been revamped to include character-color-coding, which is easier to read than "[Character name]" before each new-voiced lyric.
Also, every chord has been checked and FIXED by a fellow music brony, Sketchy Sounds. We have gone through every song and every line, spoken and sung, to make sure of this. While it will probably never be 100% accurate (short of Daniel Ingram himself sitting down with us to help make that certain), it's as close as we can get, as far as Sketchy is concerned.
Our current projects are the Season Two Songbook and Chordbook. The previously mentioned tab book and chorale book have been postponed until further notice because we do not have the resources or the time to focus on them, and because there is a higher overall demand for song- and chordbooks.
We hope everyone enjoys the Second Edition songbooks!

Now go make some crazy musics. I know I'm running over to my musical instruments as soon as I'm done.

PK has musical instruments?
ReplyDeleteHoly Awesome
ReplyDeleteI had wondered if something like this existed.

ReplyDeleteUhhh PK... ya derped on the title here. These are the SECOND Editions of the Season ONE Songbook and Chordbook. Season 2's music books won't be out until about a week or two after the end of Season 2 in May.
ReplyDeleteI think I've found my weekend project. There better be something for guitar here. Actually, I got a guitar, bass, and a piano waiting in the wings, so there's bound to be something for me to play. *Squee*
ReplyDeleteWhat's that one in the very best friends, the promo version. Where are those lyrics from? I've never heard that before.
ReplyDelete@CityFlyer502 The chordbook is very much for bronies with guitars! :D
ReplyDeleteI was wondering when this would show up! :)
ReplyDeleteAs Crayola says, I sifted through the whole thing and gave suggestions and corrections for every last song. It's not going to please everyone in terms of accuracy, as for some songs there is more than one way it could be played suitably accurately - but for the most part I think it's a huge improvement on how it was previously, and I'm delighted to have been a help and to now have an up-to-date reference for when I'm streaming! :D
@Captain_Waffle The promo version was from an early S1 toy commercial on TheHub.
ReplyDeleteWhy can I have any intruments! Curse you small bugets!
ReplyDelete@ombutescentdin You have your voice, do you not? The regular songbook is perfect for singalongs! Doesn't matter if you can't carry a tune either, hehe
ReplyDelete@CrayolaBrony Oh yeah!!! I just might try something tonight. Though it's late on my end, so I might want to hold off on any acoustic guitar until morning. Thanks for sharing this with us. :D
ReplyDelete@CityFlyer502 To quote AJ, "YERRR WELL-COME!" I'm just glad these are getting better comments than when the first edition of the chordbook got posted back in August.
ReplyDelete@CrayolaBrony
ReplyDeleteBuck yea I do, been on the comp so long forgot about it >.>; Definitely going to give it a whirl now!
Wait, no sheet music? I am dissapoint.
ReplyDeleteThanks to the chordbook, I now know how to play the singing telegram on the piano. (I'm a piano noob who's still getting the hang of recognizing different key signatures.) I will be spending the next few weeks working on the rest. Thank you so much for making these.
ReplyDelete@DarthMaul22 You could use the chords as a sort of base to come up with the rest of the melody. I play piano, but I cannot read sheet music fast enough to play off it, so for simpler melodies, I just work off the chords. It's crude but it works. Then again, I've never had a formal lesson in my entire life, so this is what I've been working off of.
ReplyDelete@DarthMaul22 The sheet music would be part of a chorale book, which, as I mentioned in the copypasta, is on hold until further notice. Sorry about that! It takes A LOT of work just to get THESE ones right and off the ground, and sheet music can be 10x harder.
ReplyDeleteOK everybrony, Sketchy here just noticed a few more fixes to be patched in for the chordbook here, so I'm gonna have him fix it and then I'll re-upload it. THE LINKS WILL ALL STAY THE SAME, so just hang on and we'll get it to ya ASAP. Sorry for the inconvenience!
ReplyDeleteIs Pinkie's brew in there somewhere? I only recently watched Friendship is Witchcraft.
ReplyDelete@Princess Luna Pinkie's Brew is a fansong and thus does not appear in any Season's songbook. However, I have toyed with the idea of compiling FANON Music Books! Not sure if that will happen though.
ReplyDelete@CrayolaBrony
ReplyDeleteFannon song book would be ridiculous. There would be alot of content :o
OK, I know it isn't canon, it's just I thought it was popular enough and was put in what was season 1 episode...I guess it was wishful thinking but fanon songbooks sound nice.
ReplyDelete@CrayolaBrony
ReplyDeleteWhoops! Sorry about that. This is what happens when you blog at midnight, folks!
Dang, the song that Pinkie plays as she parades in front of the parasprites isn't present.
ReplyDelete@PK
ReplyDeleteHah, well mistakes happen were only ponies after all X)
@Dax Because that's an instrumental piece, it was not included. Sorry!
ReplyDelete@PK Thanks for the fix! *Brohoof*
ReplyDelete@CrayolaBrony Well, looks like ima have to get one of my friends- er, acquantances to make an instrumental thingy. Idunno if he'll do it, but it's worth asking. I could do it myself, but i'm horrible at transposing music onto paper.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, I just played some. My favorite, as always: Winter Wrap Up!
ReplyDeleteJust looked over the beginning chords to the theme tune. I've always heard it as:
ReplyDeleteD A Bm Em
My Little Pony, My Little Pony
G A D
Ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh…
@HandyAndy136
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks! This is seriously awesome.
@HandyAndy136
ReplyDeleteThere's definitely not an Em in there, trust me. I listened to that theme a few hundred times x_x
I've now fixed up the remaining little niggles. Perfectionist me, haha. The last little fixes should show soon.
ReplyDeleteFiles re-uploaded, ALL FOUR of them! (Changed some of the front page font stuff for uniformity's sake on both books, eheh. Necessary last-moment changes from Sketchy are also included.)
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing... I just died and went to heaven.
ReplyDeleteThe opening theme is "And magic makes it all complete. You have My little Pony." not "And magic makes it all complete Yeah My little Ponies."
ReplyDelete@Sir_cxyrtyx ...You're right. Fixing...
ReplyDelete"Hey everybody! Guess what PK has for you today?"
ReplyDeleteEveryBODY!? What is this blasphemy!? Anyway, I'm glad these are here! Off to the piano! :P
@Sir_cxyrtyx
ReplyDeleteThanks! To be fair, you can see how that mistake was made, it's not exactly the clearest thing in the song XD
@Sir_cxyrtyx Fixed! And re-loaded again.
ReplyDeleteOMG, this is the most amazing thing ever, I love this fandom
ReplyDelete@Sketchy Sounds
ReplyDeleteYeah, I listened to that part several times to be sure, and discovered that my initial impression was wrong as well.
@CrayolaBrony
Discovered something else. In "Art of the dress." I believe it should be "primmed and pressed" not "primed and pressed." Firefox doesn't seem to recognize primmed as a word, but my dictionary does, so i will trust that.
@Sir_cxyrtyx
ReplyDeleteThe typo there is only in the songbook currently, it was corrected in the chordbook as that was what I've been pouring all my effort into helping with. I just forgot to remind Crayola that would need fixed in the songbook too. He's sorting it now.
I think he knows how Rarity felt in that song currently, ironically. :)
Huh, rather cool. And color coded by character too. Nice little bonus with that.
ReplyDeleteSweet man! Thanks!
ReplyDelete@Sir_cxyrtyx
ReplyDeleteTypo fixed in songbook! Also cleared up the formatting errors. "Dumb fabric." Lol. Or in this case, dumb spacing.
@Octavia thanks for noticing. When that idea first came to me about 2 months ago, I facehoof'd for not thinking of it sooner, as in, using that in the first edition. XD Live and learn, love and tolerate.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoy it!
Well, I can't find much use of this for myself, as I play piano, not a stringed instrument (i play the ukulele, but i'm not that good). I can, however, make heads or tails of it, but I can't do much beyond that as far as individual notes go.
ReplyDelete'tis finfe, though, I have a friend who will enjoy this quite a lot
So I printed all this out, started playing on my keyboard, realised it sounded like shit, i looked on the cover "for guitar bronies"... Im an idiot!
ReplyDeleteYah, as it says on the cover page, it's primarily aimed at guitarists. With that said, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to make use of the chords presented to use as roots for finding the notes for the songs on piano. I wouldn't know as I am not a pianist myself, I just know there are nonetheless some inherent similarities in note placement and chords across instruments, I've only ever dabbled with piano. XD
ReplyDeleteBut yeah! So long as you are able to spread it to people who will make good use of it, that's what we hoped for :) The idea is to have an easily accessible and useful resource to allow almost anyone to have something to go off of, and if we've achieved that then our goal has been met ^^
Let me make something clear to the readers, if I haven't already (and I don't mean this to sound harsh):
ReplyDeleteI can't compile a sheet music book for piano players, leastways not on my own. everyponysings.com has sheet music for a lot of the S1 songs, but not everything.
Likewise, I can't compile a tab book for advanced guitarists. Same deal with everyponysings.com for this product as well.
Why not? Because these two books alone took a lot of work and time to make, and because as you can see from the rest of the thread, they often require MORE fixing when they're released. And I don't like the idea of more nights of that, just because they didn't come out perfect on the first go-round.
If all the tabs and all the sheet music were prepped as-best-as-possible and ready to just be copypasta'd into a new document so that they could receive my signature formatting, then yeah, they'd already be done.
If the respective copyright holders (be they Ingram, his studio, or Hasbro itself) were to release such books, there wouldn't even be a need for such a project.
But alas, that is not possible at this time.
NOW, if some bronies who are VERY talented at writing and compiling music would like to jump in on THESE books WITH me, then yes, we'll give it a go. But it will be a lot of work.
...Let me know if you want to COMMIT (and I do mean commit, like I said, it takes a lot of work and time), and we'll talk.
All that aside, I am still really excited to have gotten this far. Thanks for all the feedback, and for the enjoyment! It means a lot.
Can we please have sources cited for images attached to posts?

But yes, I agree completely. That would be very nice.
Some of the songs are listed in the wrong key, and other songs are missing many of the chords that they're made up of.
ReplyDeleteUUUGH!!! What is this?? Yesterday I let a theatre-group rent my stage piano for a month and this gets posted NOW?? =((
ReplyDeleteMust...find...something with keys!
@Jordan
ReplyDeleteDid you read the disclaimer? Are you aware it's arranged for guitar?
If the answer to both questions is "yes", then I would like to know which songs and what chords? Thanks.
This is really awesome! I have spent forever trying to figure out the main theme on guitar. Also it would have been unreal if you had the solo in the CMC theme.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteNow I just need to fix my guitar, cause it's kinda broken ;D
@FreedomChannelBA
ReplyDeleteWe didn't include tablature for stuff as that would have been a whole additional kettle of fish to deal with, plus it would have taken more time than either me or CB realistically have to spend on it.
Still, it makes me happy to see this being received so well, and I'm glad that such a useful resource is getting the exposure it rightfully deserves :D Guitar bronies represent! XD
Found a few small mistakes in the songbook, if you don't mind me pointing them out. I'll reference the songs by number.
ReplyDelete#2 - You left in the "Rainbow Dash:" notation on one line from the pre-color-coded version.
#7 - "BASS" is misspelled.
#8 - Punctuation errors: last line of Twilight's first stanza, "It's winter..."; third line of AJ's first stanza should have no comma.
#11 - I know this has been debated before, but I have never heard "driftin'" or any other word there, it's just "doot doot".
#12 - Second line first stanza, no comma needed; first line third stanza, "...of us will FIGHT..."
#16 - The chorus part after RD's verse, "All we've longed for... / Finally will all come true..."; RD's line in the breakdown, "Prove I'm great as a Wonderbolt is"
#17 - Third stanza, "back cleft" doesn't make sense, I'm pretty sure it's "back left" as in "back left hoof/leg."
@Dr Ishmael I forgot to say, thanks for all your hard work putting this together! It's understandable that you'd miss a few little things in a project this big. And I'm a niggler for details like this.
ReplyDelete@Dr Ishmael
ReplyDeleteSince #11's thing is debated, it's staying in there.
#12 There is no comma in the second line of the first stanza. There are commas in the first and third lines of the first stanza, but if they're not there for grammar, they're there for showing where to pause when singing along, in lieu of rests that sheet music would have. Also, I can barely hear that "will" in there, but I threw it in anyways.
Glad you enjoy it.
All FOUR FILES RELOADED (again), as of 08:33 Pacific Time. That's the most current revision.
ReplyDeleteNow, can I PLEEEEASE be done with all the fixes? As much as I'm glad to patch them in, it's rather frustrating. I've never seen a different fanwork project have to go through so many after its release. (Perhaps I haven't been looking hard enough. And yes, I know, this project is unique compared to fanfics, original music, and PMVs.)
I'd really like to get started on Season 2's chords and keys (already have lyrics and syllabics) tomorrow without having to worry about more errors... *sigh* oy vey.
@PK
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking this, been looking for something new to try and learn.
OH MY CHRIST! Yeah, Been wanting some chords fer' a while now. Oh, and PK; I do like that copypasta, you're a great cook!
ReplyDeleteOoh, (looks for sheet music for Alto Sax)... Ok... :(
ReplyDeleteI'm making a username to say this:
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU. I could prolly kiss you guys right now 8D
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@music4ever159: Will a brohoof or bronyhug suffice instead? Glad you love it!
ReplyDeleteEDIT: On second thought... yeah, a kiss would be fine too! XD lol
OK everypony, ONE MORE ROUND of fixes was just patched in. This round was only regarding signature keys and some key changes, so no chord changes were made. Thanks to @Jordan for sending them in!
ReplyDeleteIf you see this comment and you've used the dropbox links to download, MAKE SURE YOU RE-DOWNLOAD, please. This way everyone can have pretty much the same patched versions.
See you all in May for the S2 Song/Chordbook release after the end of the season!
