Not too much new stuff on the TV version. I've received a few of this one though from Uverse:
Rainbow Dash discovers the joys of reading when she lands in the Ponyville Hospital, but she must keep her new found hobby a secret from her pony friends because of her former pension for mocking it as an "egghead" pursuit.A throwback to egghead! I love it.

Make her open up in ep14 then make her break down
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to grab that GRRM image and make it a proper meme, but...
ReplyDeleteBrace yourselves -
Twidash shipping fics are coming.
I can just tell this will be my favorite episode omg omg omg
ReplyDeleteContinuity? In MY little pony?
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me exactly of a fic that I read yesterday, 'cept that shipped RD and Twilight
ReplyDeleteWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteStill not looking forwards to it...
ReplyDeleteAhh interesting, this looks like it could be a good episode, what am I saying all of the FiM episodes have been good.
ReplyDeleteRainbow in a hospital? Because of an injury? Tears will be shed.
ReplyDeleteHospital! Dashie what happened! :'(
ReplyDeleteSounds pretty boring to be honest.
ReplyDeleteHow is she going to turn the pages?
ReplyDeleteBrace yourselves for a flood of "Reading Rainbow" fanart...
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely excited for this episode. It sounds absolutely interesting. It sucks that my fanfiction covers an instance in which Rainbow Dash is faced with books, though.
ReplyDeleteAhh my pic, love the reference to last season too
ReplyDeletehide it from her what?
ReplyDeletepension? penchant I think they mean...
ReplyDeleteI like how this synopsis can be applied to anyone who has a certain something he or she is a fan of, and is ashamed of, maybe because it's bad or maybe because it's not intended for them.
ReplyDeleteI doubt though this will be related to the Bronies, but it could be interesting to bring this episode up on a dicussion and see how much of it appears in this fandom.
Why so much Rainbow Dash? They're really testing my fangirlism...
ReplyDelete@netbard
ReplyDeleteNot funny.
@Mr Mailbox
Awww, but reading you guys! And Rainbow Dash not being a gigantic jerk!
When RD reads, woun't the viewers see the Mane 6 in fictional adventures?
ReplyDelete(I mean... Even more fiictional. SciFi ? Detective?)
*when she lands in the Ponyville Hospital*
ReplyDeleteSo what, we finally gonna get some genuinely good flying scenes with Dash?
The writing sounds pretty poor...i don't even know if they pulled the 2parter finale right.
Twilight: ♪ Now Rainbow my dear I cannot express my delight, it's abundantly clear that somewhere out here is a book that will suit you just right~♪
ReplyDeleteI suppose it's better than the inevitable Rear Window parodies this episode could generate.
ReplyDeleteGood.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, seems like my theory was right. Twilight may most likely not have an important role here.
ReplyDeleteThough if that's the case, I wonder how they will deliver this episode.
Since I first read the synopsis for this episode, I couldn't help but think of all the TwiDash fans, drooling with all the new ideas this can give :P
ReplyDelete@James Cork interesting thought. Certainly it has its parallelisms with many bronies.
@naahdude
ReplyDeleteTell me that after the internet collapses under the virtual weight of a bazillion twidash fics.
Awww, poor Dash in the hospital. Well, with how daring she is, I'm sure it has to happen at some point. Probably not too rare too. lol And of course, the great Dash wouldn't be caught dead doing... "egghead" things like reading. :P
ReplyDeleteA Rainbow Dash who is too proud to admit she was wrong earlier and goes to great lengths to make sure she doesn't have to admit fault? Sounds great. Hopefully I won't be disappointed, since I hated Mare Do Well and thought Find a Pet was a bit underwhelming.
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows that she ends up in the hospital because Rarity kicks her flank foe leaving her in the desert with Pinkie Pie.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the betting they pull a giant subversion on all of us, and Dash ends up in the hospital with a case of chicken pox or something, rather than an injury?
ReplyDeleteLooks good, though.
"Egghead" is more of a call back than a throwback
ReplyDeleteA call to the bronies who have to hide it from their "friends", I can relate.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm more curious than ever to see how this will play out. If the past is any indication, I doubt any of the others will think less of Rainbow because she took up reading. But I'm betting that whatever happens up to that point is going to be one wacky ride.
ReplyDeleteTwo things will come of this episode, one, a bunch of "Reading Rainbow" fan art, and two, tons and tons of Twidash shipping fics and art.
ReplyDeleteAs a huge bookworm, I'm slightly giddy over the potential classic parodies in this episode. My money's on Jane Mare by Charlotte Bridle.
ReplyDelete@James Corck You definitely touched upon a good point here. It may not be the exact same thing, but it does kind of echo our fandom (or any other fandom out there) and how some of us try to keep it concealed.
ReplyDeleteBring on the Twidash!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be the cutest thing EVER. *.*
ReplyDeleteMelon....
ReplyDeleteProbably RD screws up a stunt, barely avoids a fatal crash, recovers at the last second, lands safely...... Injures leg walking away.
I just hope that Merriwether Williams didn't write it
ReplyDeleteTIME TO OVERANALYZE!!
ReplyDeleteSeems like Dashie does not want to seem like a hypocrite. Maybe she's like me. I really hate hypocrisy and will do anything to avoid being a hypocrite.
At least Dashie is "she" this time... You can never be sure with those summaries.
ReplyDeleteGo away with your spoilers! I ain't reading anything!
ReplyDelete@Flutteryay
ReplyDeletemaybe. a loyal person/pny wouldn't seem to be one who likes hypocrisy.
So Rainbow Dash falls in love with a hobby she used to make fun off but has to hid it from her friends to avoid mocking......Is it just me or does that sound like a description of the early days of Bronydom?
ReplyDelete@Mr.Anonymous
ReplyDelete...Wait, what?
Books being for little fillies, Dash hides her newfound love, until she discovers this new thing called the "internet"...
ReplyDeleteMaybe this episode would teach some of us bronies to not be afraid that we like something. Like for example, My Little Pony? Good theme to choose! I think people needs learn to not be afraid of being deviant.
ReplyDeletewhat happened to the post after this one?
ReplyDelete@HoverHoof
ReplyDeletethere was no 3 o clock post.
I'm looking forward to this one... Dash has always been pretty dismissive of Twilight's nerdy ways. Sounds like a good "friendshipping" episode.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, get LeVar Burton on the horn. He MUST be in this episode.
ReplyDeleteOh it'd be so cool if this was a tongue in cheek parody of bronies.
ReplyDeleteI bet Dumb bell and those pegasi are going to be back and make fun of Rainbow for liking books.
"Egghead Crash!"
Hmm... rainbow dash injures herself performing a stunt and then finds out she has something in common with one of her friends? WHY DOES THIS SOUND LIKE ALMOST EVERY RAINBOW DASH FIC IVE EVER READ! RainbowXTwilight fans, rejoice...
ReplyDelete@wackypony
ReplyDeleteyes there was
it was about a voting on MLP wikia to name a few background characters. i clicked the comments button, but the page 404'D.
i refreshed the page and the post wasn't there
Well there is nothing wrong with an athletic person/pony reading. Unless former athletic :( ....
ReplyDeleteBack to Dash, I hope we get more of her true self then we've been led on to see. I wouldn't doubt it if she had a weird hobby or secreat picture of me....dee I mean humans...
To others, this on no shape or form is a ship starter.
Leave my Dashie alone, because she secretly reads? Come on you guys!
WAY lookiong forward to this episode, but does dash really need another one? Oh well :\
ReplyDeleteIt's probably just her tonsils. They wouldn't even think of breaking her wings.
ReplyDelete@Travis Smith
ReplyDeleteships have set sail on less.
ever heard of TwiLamp?
It's a great opportunity to finally break her away from the 'Cool-phase Teenager' mold that plagued her as of late, and allow her to show some maturity for once. Im all up for some character development!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually torn between wanting the entire running time taken up by interaction between the cast and actually seeing some action scenes of whatever novels Dash gets into brought to life.
ReplyDeleteI don't see her reading technical manuals after all... This could be a chance to do some cool pony sci-fi or pirate tales or whatever.
@wackypony
ReplyDeleteCan't think of any reason I should?
>_> guessing it's about Twilight an a lamp?
@Flutterfan
ReplyDeleteThe more I think about it, the more I feel the animators are going to make it that way. Of course, I think it would be a clever little implication! :)
@Travis Smith
ReplyDeletesome shipper(s) got the bright idea to ship Twilight and the lamp that hangs next to the door of the library.
@StrangeNoise
ReplyDeletePrecisely what I was going to say.
Unless perhaps RD has some sort of retirement plan that requires her to regularly mock intellectuals to remain eligible.
We're gonna see Derpy in the hospital with her head stuck in something and everybody's gonna focus on that.
ReplyDeleteBet'cha there's going to be a Levar Burton pony art for this if there isn't one already.
ReplyDeleteThough I wonder what type of book she's going to wind up liking? Adventure is a no brainer, but she may be a closet-romance fan or something else obscure.
@wackypony
ReplyDeleteAre shippers this crazy or are these the sane ones?
@Mr.Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI second eeeyep when I say...huh?
@Travis Smith
ReplyDeletesome are, yes. though, i think most that do that absurd of ships, do it for lulz and shock value.
I only really read ships between the Mane 6, or ships between non-mane six chracters. I don't like background characters in mah mane six shipping.
Reading and RD?
ReplyDeleteI don't think they could have come up with a better combination for me.
Can't wait for all the Reading Rainbow clips.
I could see RD reading action novels and then we see the scenes showing on screen with the characters from the show.
ReplyDelete@Ned
ReplyDeleteMother of god.....
And episode 13 comes back to bite Rainbow Dash. =P
ReplyDelete@Melon Hunter
ReplyDeleteMaybe Pegapox? This is actually somewhere close to the fanfic "Dashes dots and pegasus spots" where RD gets quarantined at Raritys boutique when she's found sick and contageous with Pegapox. In that fic she also takes on reading. And being bored. And afraid of a teddybear. XD
I think it's funny that people (Pretty much just Mr. Anonymous in this case) are still bawwing about the writing quality of this season. Now you could get into specifics and point out each episode's flaws, but overall, I loved this season just as much as, if not more than, the first one. And I've been watching since episode... what, four? Five? Very early in the first season in any event. I am a man who knows his Pony.
ReplyDeleteI still think it's hilarious that I sent in a fanfic, it got turned down, and one of the big reasons was because "Rainbow never puts herself in situations that can get herself hurt. She's full of herself, not stupid." Next day after I got that email, the synopsis for this episode pops up.
ReplyDelete@Jebediah Oldenheimer
ReplyDeletethe writing itself is fine. Some of the decisions and actions are iffy.
I'm hoping the teaser for this upcoming episode shows Rainbow Dash in a spectacular crash landing.
ReplyDelete@wackypony
After one of the drawfriends following Return Of Harmony Part 1 featuring a shipping of Celestia with the door, I'm not the least bit surprised.
This is going to be just a great episode. Why? Because of the TwiDash that will come out of it! :D The fandom could ALWAYS use more TwiDash.
ReplyDelete@Roxor
ReplyDeleteAt least Door x Celestia has canon backing. TwiLamp does not.
however, after that German comic from last night, i want a TwiSandwich pic.
And then after reading a story found at Pinkies called "Cupcakes" RD never reads again and goes to therapy for a few months
ReplyDelete@C.Olimar788
ReplyDeleteIrrational shipping side of me agrees wholeheartedly.
Rational side of me knows the more attention the ship receives, the more haters it's gonna get cause it conflicts with PieDash and, eck, AppleDash.
In contrast to one comment, (I'm too lazy to look back. Sue me.) I don't think the hospital is a regular thing for Dash. Wouldn't she have picked up reading sooner if she were routinely in the hospital for lengths of time? It's still possible that she comes down with something, but you can argue that with Fluttershy's motherly instincts kicking in and taking care of her, which would make hiding her new-found habit much harder to hide.
ReplyDelete@Flutter$
ReplyDeleteI doubt she'd need therapy, but she might never trust Pinkie again.
@dragon51116 Wow. They were serious when they mentioned banning that, then. Well, crap.
ReplyDelete@Travis Smith
ReplyDeleteNot all of us shippers are so terribly crazy, dear, just some~ *ahem*
But yes, whether Twilight ends up even being in this episode or not, I can very much see this story content being fuel for TwiDash fans. It gives them one more platform they can spring the ponies' relationship off, after all, must seize the opportunity! Or at least I imagine that's how many of them must be looking at it (as I personally am rather neutral on the subject, it doesn't really bother me one way or the other).
Whatever the case may be though, I am very much looking forward to this episode. Sounds like some good character development for dear Rainbow, and that is always a nice thing.
@WhiteDiamonds
ReplyDeleteI've been contemplating the idea of Dash getting into reading long before this was ever known about. at least it's canon now.
anypony gunna vote for an episode on hubworld.com/we heart ponies! vote!
ReplyDelete@Talon274
ReplyDeletehere ya go:
http://www.hubworld.com/hubworld/specials/mlp-we-heart-ponies/?adFree=true
Awyeah a RD episode and other than that she's in the hospital, wait WHAT!! Somepony has got some explaining to do nopony hurts dashie!!!
ReplyDelete@dragon51116
ReplyDeleteWow, really? I mean, not having read your story I don't know what other reasons they might have had for rejecting it, but on grounds of 'not being true to character' doesn't really seem to hold up to me. After all the prereaders obviously put through plenty of shipping fanfictions (and some of which are total crack-pairings no matter how you look at it), and those could very much be said to be out-of-character. That hardly seems fair to me.
@wackypony
Now that you mention it, I believe I have come across the idea before, and most notably (that I can think of right now, at least) in one of the few fanfictions I have actually read and gotten into, "Growing Pains". Which, incidentally, is also a TwiDash fiction I guess.
Who's an egghead, eggface?
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be quite an interesting episode! :)
ReplyDeleteI've been in that position RD, I know what is to hide certain things you like to your friends because of the fear of the rejection u<
YOU GO RAINBOW DASH! KEEP ON LEARNIN' :D
Man I remember Dashes Dots and Pegasus spots man that was a great fanfic and I remember it having the whole Rainbow reading books hehe Reading Rainbow.....
ReplyDeleteHoly shitz?!??! Rainbow is reading???? I better see more of it.
ReplyDeleteI would love for this episode to be named Reading Rainbow too bad they would get into copyright issues
ReplyDeleteon time warner cable, it's classified under sci-fi. who knew?
ReplyDelete@Destroyer
ReplyDeleteI know, that would be just perfect. Ah well! It would make all of the inevitable jokes to come (not to mention those that have already been made) slightly redundant, I guess.
@chappers27
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing Last Roundup, maybe the answer is as simple as "Derpy happened."
I can already see Twilights either smug or ecstatically happy expression at the end of the episode.
ReplyDeleteYes, penchant, not pension...
ReplyDeleteMy Little Pony season 2: Fixing all of Rainbow Dash's character flaws.
ReplyDelete@Flutterfan
ReplyDeleteUnless you're InoticeCanada on dA, in which case you're apparently once a hater, always a hater.
Do you think all those broken wing fics are going to come true?
ReplyDeletethere will be hidden lesson in this episode not to mention try and find Derpy too
ReplyDelete@dragon51116
ReplyDeleteWow. Like WhiteDiamonds said, that sounds like some really questionable judgment on the prereader's part. To quote RD herself, "Have you even met me?"
"Full of herself, not stupid" is a far, far cry from "never gets hurt because she's just too good for that". I've never heard of any serious athlete who hasn't broken multiple bones.
But I know I shouldn't get too passionate when I don't know all the details -- jumping blindly into righteous fury is, eheh, kind of a habit of mine. Maybe they had other, very good reasons for rejecting the story. I certainly hope so, for the sake of fairness.
By Celestia's mane, Rainbow Dash gets actual character development!?!? If a plot summary like this doesn't mean they've finally pulled it off there's no hope.
ReplyDelete@Slytherin
ReplyDeleteI bet there will also be small, colorful equines in this episode.
Sorry, sorry, couldn't resist the snark.
Wow... This sounds familiar...
ReplyDelete"Masquerade takes up watching MLP as a hobby, but tries to hide it from his pals."
until you convert them of course =P@Masquerade
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say, I'm hoping for a Rainbow / Twilight moment to mirror the Fluttershy / Rarity moment in Suited for Success.
ReplyDeleteIE; Rainbow educates Twilight over the plot of a certain book she's reading that Twilight has misinterpreted.
The premise sounds solid. This has the makings of a very good episode, character-wise.
ReplyDelete@wackypony
ReplyDeleteYa I did see a reading see a reading episode in this for Dash long ago. Just because your an athlete, you don't like reading.
I'll use my self for example, I read almost 24/7 an I (used) played Rugby
I cannot wait for this episode. It sounds like it could turn out to be one of my favorite episodes.
ReplyDeleteI'm still pretty curious about how they'll pull off this episode; actually, I've never imaginated Dash reading books before. Well, except for a Wonderbolts Monthly Magazine, or something like that.
ReplyDelete"Discover the joys of reading", huh? Sounds like something my 4th grade teacher would say!
Yay! me and Rainbow can study together!!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteThere it is again! "Pals"! Who says that? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteI must say, what would RD read? I can't see Twilight having anything in her library but nonfiction. So would there be fiction from somewhere else, or what?
ReplyDeleteGod this looks good.
@Harwick
ReplyDeleteIt most likely be a mix of both anyway.
Though this brings up the question of what qualifies as scifi for a magical world.
Strange thought...
ReplyDeleteWhen it says RD lands in the hospital, well, since she does have a tendency to crash once in a while, perhaps she literally LANDS IN THE HOSPITAL.
Also, one wonders what kind of book she'd like. As one poster noted, adventure seems obvious. But who knows for certain... What if she got into philosophy instead? Wierd image of RD at a coffeehouse, beret and java at hand, debating the merits of Neightzchie vs. Haygel...
I think it would be funny as hay if RD injures herself by CRASHING INTO THE HOSPITAL.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this so much it's crazy.
ReplyDeleteSounds like another great episode we got comming
ReplyDelete@Everlasting Joy
ReplyDeletei used to have this problem until i just whent "fuck it, im viking enough to be proud of whatever i do, my bros can deal with it"
In this episode, Rainbow Dash reads Cupcakes. Meanwhile, Pinkie Pie is planning a huge surprise for her. Hilarity ensues. Actually that would be a perfect Rear Window episode. Too bad this show is aimed at little girls.
ReplyDelete@ultra8
ReplyDeletePersonally, I was imagining something along the lines of HG Wells or Jules Verne, rather than modern sci-fi.
But if they do animate a story she's reading, would it be something largely original or a ponification of a well-known classic? I'm really curios to see where they go with this episode.
But overall I still mostly want some character development for Dash and Twilight, who (aside from egghead jibes) really don't relate to each other that much.
Lol, reminds me of the "Mods Asleep, Post Humans" fic. This is gonna be epic!
ReplyDelete@Ned
ReplyDeleteAlready way ahead of you.
http://askmat2.tumblr.com/post/15655105378/curse-this-fandom-they-drive-me-to-meme
@wackypony
ReplyDeleteWell at the least She won't be getting her element mixed up with AJ's (and vice versa) this time :P
@Sothalic
ReplyDeleteCharacter development rarely ever sticks unless it's the episode that introduces the character, well aside from Derpy maybe..
@Flutterfan
ReplyDeleteOh heck no, season 2 makes EVERYONE'S character flaws WORSE.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWhat Derpy did to RD should have been enough to land her in the hospital...
ReplyDeleteWhat the HELL did Dashie do, this time??
guess theres going to be
ReplyDelete*puts on sunglasses*
a reading rainbow
yay!
QUICK LOAD UP ALL THE RAINBOW X TWILIGHT INTO THE FRIENDSHIP CANNON
ReplyDelete@Flutterfan
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why people are getting upset over Dash recently. She's been my favourite pony since I started watching the last February. She has her flaws, but they're not flaws that warrant the hate. I'm sticking with Dash.
@Mattwo
ReplyDeleteFluttershy in the sky,
I can fly twice as high...
THAT WAS AMAZING WILL YOU COME TO MY BIRTHDAY PARTY?
@Mattwo
ReplyDeleteEh, I disagree, the characters do keep quite a bit of their development as the series progresses. Fluttershy was once scared of her shadow, now she's Dash's wingmare, which is a pretty demanding position, given all of the cart chases and catching of falling ponies the job seems to entail.
First cartoon I've ever watched that had character development
ReplyDeleteAND I CAN'T STOP LOVING IT
@Dennis The Menace
ReplyDeleteYou need more Avatar: The Last Airbender in your life, my friend :<
Seems somepony at Uverse doesn't know how to spell "penchant".
ReplyDelete@Sandoval My money is on Meghan McCarthy. She wrote "Call of the Cutie", "Green Isn't Your Color", and "Sweet and Elite" among others, so this seems like her type of ep.
ReplyDeleteI smell meta. It's a brony tale.
ReplyDeleteIt is us that should be reading and weeping.
@DarthMaul22 I think Nurse Redheart would chase away Fluttershy, but on the other hand, who could ever chase away Fluttershy?
ReplyDeletehehe, episode about Rainbow Dash liking books? What's next, an episode where Scootaloo actually acts girly for once? (oh wait, that's prolly going to happen now, just because I said that...)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, actually this has the potential to be a really cool episode. Especially if the reason Dashie ends up in the hospital is revealed to be because of Derpy...
Also, actually I could see how one could get Dashie interested in reading, despite her personality, especially if you gave her things like comic books/graphic novels to start off with.
If Studio B puts in an actual reference in the episode to Reading Rainbow and/or Levarr Burton in any way shape or form, my day will be totally made. A staff with an obvious awareness of pop culture + a studio that did animation work for PBS before == totally plausible chance of that happening.
When I saw this picture, I thought Derpy was behind RD's accident.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the many potential d'aaaawwwwwwww moments that will come from this episode
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this episode.
ReplyDeleteI guess there will be Rainbow Dash/Twilight/Applejack.
Reading Rainbow :D
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sound very exciting based on that but I know they must've made things interesting. It's pretty much just a matter of how good the episode will be.
ReplyDelete@ThatNub Only if the episode is written by Meghan McCarthy.
ReplyDelete@MasterContinuum Maybe this is the episode that introduces a certain background pony as Doctor John 'WHooves' Smith(Enter pony version of John Smith as necessary)as a DOCTOR in the hospital.
ReplyDeleteSounds amazing! We need more Twilight and Dashie bonding. And I do love the return of eggheaded! Rainbow's attitude has been pretty arrogant this season, more so than usual. She could really redeem herself in this one.
ReplyDelete@crystalmountain
ReplyDeleteYeah! I do like the idea of Dashie and Twi becoming better friends; looking forward to this episode because its gonna feature my two favorite ponies XD
@Travis Smith i thought i was the only rugger brony! feels good to know im not alone
ReplyDeleteBrace yourselves for a shitstorm of TwiDash fics!
ReplyDeletelol So she's a Reading Rainbow, nice.
ReplyDelete
