Art Contest for An Actual Company

My company, flight of harmony, LLC., A.K.A. f(h), is getting a makeover. We need a more consistent design across the website and ad material, so it was suggested that I hire an artist to design a new visual theme for everything. I of course immediately thought “Pony time!” but, alas, I am aware that “WTF?” is not the customer reaction I should be aiming for (I still plan to do some limited-edition pony-themed releases anyway, I just can’t use ponies for the main theme. But I do want to eventually have a secret “switch to Pony Theme” button.). However, this community has some incredible artists, and I want to support y’all if I can before I resort to looking outside the Equestrian realm. We might as well have fun with it as well, so let’s have a contest! As with most contract jobs of this nature, artists submit a basic (or detailed, if they wish) idea of what they think should be done, then the company requesting the art goes through the submissions to see if any meet their needs as-is or with a bit of tweaking, and then offer a job contract to the selected artist.

ReplyDeleteSleep doesn't sound like such a bad idea right about now. Good thing I was still up for this. Some of the longer stuff, I'll have to check out tomorrow. But the shorter videos were quite interesting, especially that one with the Apple Bloom vector bouncing around scenes. LOL. Looks like our artists have got a contest on their hands; hope we can see a few samples of what's being submitted. And I'm under the impression there's gonna be a feeding frenzy for that Derpy custom.

Snow ponies are very interesting. Unfortunately, where I live we NEVER get snow and even if we did I have no artistic ability.
ReplyDeleteLoved the pony genetics cause genetics are awesome, it was concise, and his audio was pretty good. I'm just an undergrad biology student myself but everything he said was pretty sound. Though it does make you wonder why there aren't more alicorns.

I always figured that pony magic was channeled and given function through bone structure. Unicorn horns channel magic in its purest form. Earth ponies take and give magic from the land through their hooves. Pegasi wings and other bones reduce the weight of the pony drastically, provide the ability to interact with clouds, and provide some propulsion when flying.

ReplyDeleteThis contest is spec work. Artists are being asked to do design work for free for a for-profit company. You might not "win", in which case you don't get anything. Even if you're the best candidate, they may decline. Once you've done the work, you then get to negotiate your pay. That makes a lot of artists sad. Please don't run ads for spec work.
