Anyway, a generally interesting roundup. The news coverage bit was amusing. (Pony-tail like manes, huh? Tell me, do they pay you to be as obvious as possible with your puns?) and I liked seeing the nominations, though how Tara Strong missed being nominated I have no freaking clue. (I mean, come on, her performance in Lesson Zero? TOP. NOTCH.)

Here I am, having just gotten on EqD with my bowl of applesauce and some spare time on my hands, thinking that I might actually be able to sneak a few posts in as it has become far too infrequent of a habit of mine as-of-late. And then there's no Drawfriend. Ah well, perhaps this is the universe's way of telling me I should go to bed at a decent hour for once...
Well, in other news I will admit I was happily amazed by the sight of those Pinkie Pie cupcakes (I have to go look for those now at my local Wal-Mart, though Goddess knows I don't need the calories or carbs after the holidays XP), and if Tabitha St. Germaine doesn't win that ToonZone award for Best Voice Actress I will be seriously disappointed with the world.

I'd like to know if any of Daniel Ingram's songs got nominated, or if this show can finally snag any nominations. (Last year Transformers: Prime got a whole ton of nominations when Friendship is Magic got none!)
And why is "The Pony Pokey" nominated? "At the Gala" and "Find a Pet", I can understand, but why not a longer, more involved song, like the CMC theme song or "Becoming Popular"?

ReplyDeleteHere's my short analysis for MLP:FiM to win any of those awards, compared to what the other nominees are:
ReplyDelete- Best Series: Possible. Phineas and Ferb, and The Regular Show seem powerful candidates for what I hear around the sites I visit, but the popularity of MLP:FiM might incline the balance to the show's favor.
- Best Actor: Not likely. I love John de Lancie, but he's competing against other great VA's like John DiMaggio and Seth McFarlane. Besides, he was only on two episodes, and even though he left quite an impact I don't see this happening.
- Best Actress: Not likely. My reasoning behind this is that there's too many VA's from MLP in this cattegory, which might cause the vote to spread out and go for nobody.
- Best Voice Acting Ensemble: Possible. Unlike the others, I see this happening mostly because it's awarding the entire cast, not just one actor in particular. And the MLP ensemble is staggeringly great.
- Best Director: Possible. Not only Jayson Thiessen seems like the strongest name on that list, he also is one of the responsible people behind making MLP something so big as it is today. The change he gave to the series should be taken into consideration.
- Best Art Direction: Not likely. From personal experience I think MLP has an art direction good enough to make you forget it's a show based on a toy line, but in the end it all depends on how artistic it looks. And frankly, it's more functional design than artistic.
- Best Animation: Possible. Taking into account the things the crew does with flash, I'm pretty sure they will award the creativity they showcase with such limited media.
- Best Writing: Not likely. Yes, yes, I know the writing is great guys, but there we have Batman the Brave and the Bold. If MLP wins over Batman (again) it will be a frigging miracle.
- Best Character Design: Possible. Yes, since the design of MLP is quite ingenius, as so create a set of characters that look like equines but have the array of emotions of an anime girl.
- Best Song: Possible. I mean, this might be the only cattegory where I think it's really likely to win. Hands down, no discussion there.
- Best Music: Not likely. I love the compositions and all the Jimmy Hart versions of well known themes, but when you get down to it some of the most original themes are not that much inspired. Objectively speaking of course, as I love the music work in this series.

TL;DR: I can see MLP at least getting three awards, even if they are just technical.
