It seems like we are invading the news from all corners once again! The New York Post recently attended BroNYCon, and did a whole bunch of digging into our little fandom.
It's a pretty reasonable article overall, and probably worth the read if you guys are curious about what went down during that completely insane, pony-filled weekend.
Check it out here!

ReplyDeleteInteresting...
ReplyDeleteAttending a meetup isn't the best way to get to know the fandom. Just lurk Ponychan. You'll get more information and it will be more accurate to average Bronies.

ReplyDeleteI personally don't like the New York Post, but "mainstream" coverage is still a good thing.
ReplyDelete@MyBoyJ
ReplyDeleteOr should I have said "manestream"?
I think that was pretty objectively approached.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I am predicting a few bronies worrying over the fact that they used cosplayers photos for the article.
It doesn't matter guys, they are good photos and the cosplays are nice. Do they look weird? Yeah. Liking ponies is not precisely normal. But that's not a bad thing. Don't get worked up about it. Keep proving we are level headed.
Amazing. Once more we go into the spotlight to show the world how awesome ponies are.
ReplyDeletethe title and puns in the article leave me a little sad...
ReplyDelete@Peter
ReplyDeleteEhh...I'm not so sure of that.
That being said, this article was much more merciful than it originally let on. Great article, and I can't wait 'til BroNYCon Summer!
Someone cosplayed as the Sixth Doctor?
ReplyDeleteiamokaywiththis.jpg
Article's not too bad, either.
A few errors, but not that bad of an article.
ReplyDeleteThat was a girl in the dress right? It was small on my computer, and to be honest, the face was kinda masculine on my screen.
ReplyDelete"(...) says Matthew Shempert, a 20-year-old from Texas who came dressed as something called Pinkie Pie."
ReplyDeleteAll my internets go to the author of this article!
That's pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteDid it really smell like sweat and smelly markers in there?
This is pretty neat, and it seems like the report was pretty open minded, if a little befuddled by us.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't I buy newspapers anymore?!! This was a pretty fair article, though I'm sure it left the writers scratching their heads more than once. And I just couldn't help but LOL at the part about the fandom looking like a "cut-rate Narnia." This ain't Narnia, folks. THIS. IS. MY LITTLE PONY! WHOOOO!......I mean, this is My Little Pony.
ReplyDelete@FlimboStache
ReplyDeletethat's generally how most Cons smell.
Which reminds me, I hope nobody at BroNYCon got Confunk!
Now this is a nice read ^__^
ReplyDeleteI feel a mixture of embarrassment and good feeling from reading this. But I think that's how every fandom feels when we see pictures and articles on things we like.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad, at least, that everypony seems to be having fun in the pictures and vids I've seen. That's what we're all about, anyway. Fun, friendship, and good feeling.
Despite our positives and negatives, or perhaps because of them, I'm happy to be part of the fandom!
@Maquabra
ReplyDeleteI'm Going to take a guess and say that that was the guy who went as Cupcakes Pinkie. All the more humorous!
lol, I MET some of the people this article is talking about. How's that for awesomeness.
ReplyDeleteAlso, they described the con as a shoestring-budget Narnia...
...
...
darn it, I'll have to give them credit for that one it's pretty accurate and very witty XD.
@naahdude
ReplyDeleteI do think it would give an inaccurate impression. Very few Bronies actually buy merchandise or cosplay as ponies. There's nothing wrong with doing either of those things, of course, but it's not accurate to judge all Bronies based on Bronycon.
Ahh so thats where the interrobang got there story and pictures. As for the article it's pretty nice read.
ReplyDeletepuns......
ReplyDeleteWe will hit everything news one day!
That was certainly an interesting article, so many humans dressed like ponies. Also, this may not be the time, but how did anypony who saw a full moon yesterday like it?
ReplyDelete*raises hoof* I did! It was amazing, thank you. ^^
DeleteIf a normal person would read that, they'll think we're freaks. But it's not like we care... XD

ReplyDeleteIf I were the author, I would not be proud of this article. The way they throw in insulting adjectives and try to make everything a half-assed joke is so generic. It is like they Google searched badly written Trekkie-con and fur-con articles and plagiarized the whole thing from them. At least they seemed to pay attention during the interviews and kept notes on things like the names of the characters. Don't these newspapers know they look immature when they childishly try to mock an easy target like this? Those sorts of articles are a dime a dozen. They hold no interest. Who am I kidding, this is the New York Post we're talking about? I'm amazed they didn't turn this into a "look what this nation is coming to" thing.
ReplyDeleteChillax, brony. It felt more like a soft-gloves version of the Daily Show to me. Learn to laugh a little. It's a human (pony) interest piece, not gunning for a Pulitzer.
DeletePretty cool :3
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I did not like that article. It came too close to painting all bronies with a rather nasty brush of making us look like the worst elements of Trekkies and other such cosplayers.
ReplyDeleteThough, as someone else said, this IS the New York Post. We were lucky this didn't turn into a huge rant.
@Princess Luna
ReplyDeleteIt was amazing! It looked so big and it was orange like a harvest moon! Actually, it made us think of you. Thanks for the beautiful sky last night!
aight instead of 700 ppl
ReplyDeletelet there be 10,000 ppl next time
A slightly different...style? Had some issues with it though. You can claim that brony stems from the /b/ on 4chan and pony, and that may be the origin, but it's "bro" + "pony", not brother, bro has a different connotation. Still don't care for pegasister, brony is a gender neutral term, all good friends are bros. "Something called a Pinkie Pie?" If you actually did any research (or were actually there OR bothered asking someone there)...
ReplyDelete@Princess Luna
ReplyDeleteIt might of just been me seein' things cause im sleepy, but I swear I could've saw 4 stars join together. Is everything ok?
Oh Shempert, I feel his pain.
ReplyDeleteMy parents still believe that I watch this show because my drawing teachers says you can learn good vectors from it.
To me that article seemed almost.... Insulting, I agree with the people who said that not all bronies buy merchandise and cosplay. Not that there's anything bad with that but I know ky brony community is around... Four people. And that's all the people I've told, not even my own brother. And the half asses puns kind of made it feel pike they were making a joke of us.. I should stop rambling...
ReplyDelete@IOYTPM like* my* damn phone
ReplyDelete“I’d say 80 percent of my friends are into it,”
ReplyDeleteNeeds the other 20% of her friends.
I giggled at the "700 people" part. Try more along the lines of more than 1000. ;)
ReplyDeleteI honestly didn't really have any major qualms with that article. Compared to many, this was incredibly mellow. They need to make it sound slightly odd at least. That sells. So I won't fault them for that. But overall, it was decent.
Yeah so the Murdoch News Empire is a worldwide criminal conspiracy of evil but this article wasn't too bad. It was mostly free of the NY Post's trademark dickishness.
ReplyDeleteAs if they had a choice.
ReplyDeleteHmm... Needs more hippopotamus ponies.
ReplyDelete@James Corck
ReplyDeleteIn the sage words of Phillip J. Fry, "You're better than normal. You're abnormal!"
I want a "Sweet-ass Trixie hat!"
