We have received a few emails concerned about this. It looks like either a bug happened over on the Season two iTunes episode page, or The Last Roundup has mysteriously vanished. Now before you all freak out due to the screenshot (later debunked) that has been floating around for the past week about angry emails to Hasbro in regards to Derpy, it looks like the episode is still completely available on the actual Hubworld website. I would think an all out take down would include their site in the mix. We won't know for sure until something pops up though!
Hopefully it's just a glitch in the system. I personally will lean toward that until something more substantial happens.
Until then, watch it here!

ReplyDeleteHmmm... I'd better avoid syncing my iPod until this gets resolved...
ReplyDeleteIt got taken down because of lack of SCOOTALOO.
ReplyDeleteHAH, already bought it on itunes.
ReplyDeleteBest $3 ever spent!
Hmm. Good thing I got my "copy" the day it was put up. Most likely it's a glitch. Though seriously? The writers see fit to give Derpy a role in "The Last Roundup" AND THIS IS THE THANKS THEY GET?!!! If it isn't a glitch, I hope they're happy.
ReplyDeleteDerpy is the best thing to happen, ever. Come on Hasbro, deal with the "hate" mail and prove that Derpy's a genius. Gives you an excuse to use Derpy again :D

ReplyDeleteWhat?
ReplyDeletePeople complained about Derpy having a somewhat boy-ish voice?
Fucking pricks these days. I understand why we're so looked down upon. Good thing I was never a full on "brony."
Hopefully it is just a glitch. I'm not going to get upset about it until we find out what actually happened.
ReplyDelete@Senior Waffles This is just me, but when I saw Derpy, I thought she was just being plain goofy, not to mention adorable. Never interpreted it as anything but.
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't been removed from my iTunes account? I'm pretty sure that if iTunes recalls an episode, it'll remotely delete it from my computer (one of the wonders of apple having it's way with iTunes)
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame that such a wonderful gift to the Brony community (Derpy being canon) is being given such anger.
ReplyDeleteGifts are ment to be cherished, not ripped to shreds. You know who rips things to shreds when it's not what they want? Little brats who kick and scream until they get what they want.
Well I certainly hope it's a bug, it's sure is a coincidence that the one episode that disappears is the one with some controversy around it.
ReplyDeleteSort of appropriate, I guess, that the episode about a pony mysteriously vanishing itself goes missing with no explanation.
as long as they don't change her name, i'm fine. i can understand the complaints over the voicework and characterization, but i also thought 'derp' as being a nonsense word, or an synonym for 'goof'.
ReplyDeleteanyways, i have the season pass, so i already have the episode.
My episode is still intact as well, so I'm seriously hoping computer glitch.
ReplyDeleteit was 5 people. there is no substantial backlash here, Hasbro has no reason to take the episode down, or make any changes. They most likely aren't that aware of it, and don't need to be. All is well with the ponies, and articles like this that passively fuel speculation and fear aren't helping. If Hasbro receives hundreds of positive letters about awful it is that there's a backlash, they're going to actually think there is one, and they WILL take action.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, shut up about this whole situation. The Pro-Derpy people are doing more damage than the actual haters.
I really hope they don't change anything because of this. How comes we never got any complaint from parents like this over the last year with Derpy all over the internet...
ReplyDeleteSomething VERY fishy is going on here.
Eh... this will be very disappointing if they did take it down because of Derpy's voice. I do believe it is safer to bet it is just a glitch (it is more likely the Hubworld site would have taken it down before iTunes), but if this turns out be be due to people finding her voice/demeanor/name demeaning/insulting/not-fitting-their-head-cannon, it's going to be really disappointing; that was such an amazing shout out and I'd hate to see it pulled just because a few people were upset.
ReplyDelete"Don't look a gift-horse in the mouth". Honestly, the lessons at the end of the episodes are not their for kicks; they are as valid for young children as they are for young adults.
I'm glad those who disliked Derpy are in the vast minority, but, sadly, those who dislike something are often the loudest.
@Kadreal That's only if iTunes recalls something for a serious violation, like an app that allows you to circumvent things. I really don't see Apple doing a user-data purge over something as small as hold on an episode sale.
ReplyDeleteThat all aside, I am very sad that this issue arose. Not only does this pretty much 100% mean we will never get another Derpy scene, but I also really feel bad for the writer who got yelled at for going out on a limb and doing something for the bronies, something that we have been asked for since season 1. :'(
I'm not surprised there's a bit of backlash over Derpy's portrayal. Granted I wasn't offended by it, but her voice did carry a downs syndrome tone to it.
ReplyDeleteThough of course we in the fandom know it's because Tabitha (the VA) misunderstood and thought Derpy was a boy. But thinking of it from the perspective of a parent who is not involved with the fandom and thus has no prior knowledge of who Derpy is, it's possible they might take offense to it.(as parents of small children are wont to do over many things)
A simple explanation other than glitch? Hasbro may have re-recorded the lines so that Derpy has a decidedly female voice and couldn't be mistaken for retarded. The eyes sort of compound the effect.
This is why we can't have nice things! I hope you ninnies are happy.
ReplyDeleteHaving stuff published on iTunes before, I know there are lots of problems when publishing to iTunes, and often times things disappear and reappear, so I would place my money on the bet that this is just a glitch.
ReplyDeleteI would be very sad if the complaints really did influence this
That "controversy" is ridiculous. As I said several times after the episode premiered, Derpy is just clumsy and maybe not the sharpest crayon in the box. Snails is officially less intelligent than Derpy, since Derpy understood what was going on around her and did not blurt out "I like pudding" for no reason.
ReplyDeleteThere are actually a few episodes missing, and Derpy only talked in one of them. So I'm sure it's got nothing to do with her.
ReplyDelete@Fengor which is even more ironic, since mental retardation and walleye have nothing to so with each other IRL.
ReplyDeleteMost likely this is nothing to worry about, please don't over-react people. Also as far as the hate mail goes, it's a small few who are complaining compared to the majority, they'll get over it.
ReplyDeleteIT'S glitch, there are two episodes labeled with the number 11 one with 15 and none with the numbers 13 and 14, also there are just 14 episodes...
ReplyDeleteSoftware error...
Are people really upset about this? Half of the fandom has been depicting her as mentally disabled or handicapped in some way...
ReplyDeleteI didn't think she came off as that in the show, but I understand how it can be interpreted as such.
if it does get removed from people complaining, that would be rather disappointing. Derpy came off to me as a clumsy character, not mentally handicapped as many have said.
ReplyDelete"I just don't know what went wrong!"
ReplyDeleteThe takedown having something to do with Derpy would make no sense whatsoever. They make money through iTunes. They make no money through people watching it on Hubworld.com. Why take it down at the place where you make money off it, thereby preventing you from making that money, yet leave it up at the place where you don't?
ReplyDeleteBeyond that, as others have said, the evidence points to the Derpy backlash having been rather overblown from what we've heard from people who actually work on the show (i.e., people who aren't random Ponychan commenters - no offense). As such, I think that the mantra on the back cover of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is in order at present: "Don't Panic".
THERE'S NO PEOPLE COMPLAINING. STOP TALKING ABOUT IT BEFORE HASBRO THINKS THERE IS.
ReplyDeletespeaking of disapproval over the community's reaction, i believe this quote by my favorite author is apt:
ReplyDelete'[...]the IQ of a mob is the IQ of its most stupid member divided by the number of mobsters,[...]'
(-terry pratchett, maskerade)
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeletePlease, calm down.
Derpy is a kindhearted if not clumsy pony. It's the way I saw it as soon as I saw her on-screen. The way the haters are acting is just disgusting. I wrote and email to the writer of the episode thanking her for her previous work and for acknowledging the fan base with an awesome gift as Derpy receiving a small speaking role.
ReplyDeleteDerpy is just clumsy! Seriously, Rainbow Dash crashed into something every few episodes in season 1. Just that things had a habit of being in disrepair at the time and broke a bit more when SHE backed/sat on them.
ReplyDelete@James Corck
ReplyDeleteno you dumbasses need to calm down. You're the one's pretending like there's some god damn army amassing against Derpy. It was a few people who complained, it doesn't warrant fear mongering on EQD about a related takedown.
I would be extremely disappointed if it was related to complaints. They finally ascend Derpy to canonhood, and this happens? It would mean the death of fanon-inspired ideas almost completely.
ReplyDeleteDerpy was amazing and not offensive in any way. If you think her performance was that of a mentally handicapped person, then there's something wrong with YOU, not the show.
@DCJoeDog Where did you find the email address? I'd like to send the writer a message myself.
ReplyDelete@James Corck
ReplyDeleteI love the way he says that, almost as if he wants to repeat it enough times to make it true. Who else uses that tactic. (hmmmmm)
@DCJoeDog
ReplyDeletethere's is no backlash against Derpy. Stop pretending there is.
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteI am calmed. You are making a big deal out of nothing.
It's just a children's show. You should really just relax. Please.
@James Corck
ReplyDeleteI'm the one telling you there is no big deal. STFU.
that pratchett quote, of course, being aplicable to both sides of any internet based argument...
ReplyDelete@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteI echo your sentiments. So far, all I've seen is people getting mad that "people" got mad about Derpy. I honestly haven't seen anypony react the way that everypony seems to be thinking they have. Just a few antsy trolls is what it sounds like to me. (And really, to those getting pissed at the community: did you ever wonder if that random Ponychan member is 100% accurate? He could've just unintentionally made a small deal a big deal.)
Can we stop assuming the worst and just be happy that we get a great show every week? I mean, if that's okay with you...
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteOkay, you'll know better.
Weird, good thing I already downloaded the Episode!
ReplyDeleteI doubt they took it down simply because a few random people from the internet were complaining about it. Likely, it was some type of mishap.
ReplyDelete@EPHorizon
ReplyDeleteprecisely, thank you.
I was a part of that thread in Ponychan. By the time the thread was killed, 30-40 positive letters had been written to AKR, and she revealed that she only received around 5. There is no big deal here, and the person in that picture was only making their side of the argument seem a lot bigger than it actually was. Everything that was said in that screenshot was debunked as complete ponyshit :)
It's looking more and more like a simple hiccup on the other end. Doubt anyone would consciously label an episode "11" twice. :P
ReplyDelete@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteshe received around 5 negative** is what i meant to say.
I...thought Derpy was adorable. Not stupid, not handicapped (aside from the wonky eye). Just clumsy, well-meaning and adorable. I don't understand how anyone could see her otherwise. Do people complain to Nickelodeon about Patrick Star, I wonder? Or Pete Puma in the new Looney Tunes show on Cartoon Network?
ReplyDeleteHopefully it IS just a glitch. I don't have iTunes so I have no idea if the episode's still available there. Darn it, I want to see more of Derpy, and it'd be a shame if she were taken out of the show because of a few misguided fan complaints. :(
All argument aside, this is clearly a glitch. The missplace of the numbers on the episodes make it obvious.
ReplyDelete@CityFlyer502
ReplyDeletethat was due to the episodes airing out of production order. They haven't gone back and fixed that yet, as far as I know. HWE was the 11th to air, but I think was the 13th or 14th to be produced.
wait what the f**k is going on? i seem to have missed something...
ReplyDelete@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteI know for a fact she got at least one positive one from me.
Interesting, I'm curious what will become of derpy.
ReplyDeleteBut anyway, I preordered the season off of itunes way before the season even came out so the take down did not affect me^^
im pretty sure at least some of the writers visit ED and are fully capable of understanding that we are a generally whole-hearted community and the hatemail was only the rantings of a few bad apples (no pun intended) so im sure there is nothing to worry about
ReplyDeleteI think it's ridiculous that people are getting upset with derpy, but like someone said, "...those who dislike something are typically the loudest". As soon as I found out people were sending angry letters I felt the need to send an e-mail thanking the staff and writers for the service they did us and that if people are going to be upset, that they should be upset with us. WE latched onto Derpy. WE gave Derpy her name. WE gave Derpy her personality. WE gave Derpy her mannerisms. In a sense: "WE MADE DERPY!" Hate us. Not the ones giving this community something to bond over.
ReplyDeleteWhat's more likely is Derpy's lightning cloud broke the fourth wall and fried the episode.
ReplyDelete@reclaimedvalorno, the epsidoes have been correctly numbered the whole time, as hearths warming eve was set as 13, and family appreciation day and baby cakes as 11 and 12 respectively.
ReplyDeleteSince it looks like a couple of the latter episodes are misnumbered in iTunes, I'm betting it was just some kind of server hiccup.
ReplyDeleteI sent off a bug report to Apple and they replied with a message that kind of implied it was a bug. Of course, since it's Apple, all they said was that they were looking in to it, but that's better than nothing.
Kinda unfortunate timing, though. I finally got around to buying a Season Pass, only to find that episode missing. :(
WILL SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS....
ReplyDelete@reclaimedvalor Figures nobody went back and fixed it. Shouldn't be that hard. Then again, I don't work there. Hehe.
ReplyDelete@Canvas Wolf Doll
ReplyDeleteI had HWE and FAD both numbered as 11 on my itunes for awhile.
@Vipera That seems like the most logical explanation if you ask me.
ReplyDelete@Canvas Wolf Doll
ReplyDeletein fact they still are both numbered 11
If they do something drastic (and completely unnecessary) and alter Derpy's scene, it would likely affect the release "Friendship Express" DVD since it will include The Last Roundup.
ReplyDelete@MyBoyJ
ReplyDeletewhich is why they won't. It would be too expensive.
@MyBoyJ
ReplyDeleteRelease of the DVD. I'm very tired.
seriously? people are still on about this? 1. we named a pony! how awesome is that? 2. the name derpy. IT DOES NOT MEAN STUPID OR RETARDED. Trey Parker and Matt Stone coined it, the word derp is basically like saying "I fucked up". Guess what? A pony with a lazy eye and bad depth perception would tend to be clumsy. Herp a Derp is a more recent meme, but again, I see that as someone ACTING silly, not being retarded. The name is NOT an insult. I sure as hell know Studio B did not mean it as an insult. Everyone loves that silly mare with the iron butt of doom.
ReplyDeleteI think I must have missed something because I have no idea what's going on.
ReplyDeleteWhile I did think that some of the inflections in Derpy's voice sounded slightly reminiscent of a person with Down Syndrome, it really didn't bother me too much. Especially after I found out that it was a mistake on Tabitha's part and that she thought Derpy was a boy. I was honestly just happy that they decided to give us a shout-out of that magnitude.
...I guess we can count on THAT never happening again >_<
@reclaimedvalorthey are that way on my itunes, and were always like that.
ReplyDeletefor the sake of clarification, i have the sd episodes. you?
@Canvas Wolf Doll
ReplyDeleteI could be mistaken, but I think S2 is only available in SD? I have the season ticket.
@CityFlyer502 Me too. But I can see how other people might see it as such, for whatever reason. For a show of this caliber, I assume they have the best of intentions and quite clearly they know what they're doing. Plus, it's kind of hard to offend me.
ReplyDelete@Vipera
ReplyDeleteI think that this is the most likely explanation.
@Canvas Wolf Doll Actually, Hearth's Warming Eve is also numbered as 11 in iTunes, so both that and Family Appreciation Day have the same number. So there's no #13 and #14 is the missing episode.
ReplyDeleteAlso, about the Derpy thing, I doubt the backlash was as big as people are saying it was. Personally, I haven't seen anybody complaining about her, just people complaining about the supposed complainers.
Besides, I actually liked her in that ep. I mean, it's not like she's suddenly retarded out of nowhere. She was always a little ditzy even as a background character, like when she dropped all that stuff on Twilight during Feeling Pinkie Keen. She just seems clumsy and a little bit slow, not disabled. And as for the voice, although she sounded a bit boyish, she still sounded like a girl to me.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete.......sigh..........
ReplyDeleteGrab some popcorn, because there will surely be plenty of pretty ''colorful'' people in this page, saying equally colorful nonsense, understanding the wrong things about the 'Derpy Case'...
Also, I bet the word 'hater' will be overused pretty quickly...
...no one ever said the emails were *PURE RAW HATE* in digital form, mmh ?
A handful of complains DOESN'T forcibly equal *massive wave of unreasonable haters*...
Personally, I can see why some people would be ''unsatisfied'' by Derpy's voice and how it was used in the episode's context.
@Overkill
ReplyDeleteThat was posted in the headline.
@Overkill
ReplyDeleteFunny. That looks a lot like the screenshot linked in the post we're commenting on.
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteThere was a sizable backlash against Derpy. If you pulled your head out of your nook you'd know that. We've been browbeating the dumbasses who complained about Derpy and sent Tabitha and the rest of the staff angry letters and some sort of poll and empty legal thread about her "poor portrayal of the mentally challenged" so they'd finally get the idea to shut the fuck up.
Don't talk about shit you don't know about, man. Especially being rude to more respected members of the community
@Kayriel
ReplyDelete5 people is sizable now? lol
Who knew?
This just further illustrates a problem I like to call political correctness.
ReplyDeleteNow I understand wanting to avoid offending people, but there comes a point when it begins to get ridiculous. As there are those out there that go out of their way to be offended so they can file lawsuits and such.
After the episode, I saw Derpy as an accident prone pony(exaggerated to cartoon levels of course). Only the first part with her bouncing on the lightning cloud hinted other wise, and who knows, she may of accidentally turned it into a lightning cloud while bouncing on it. Also there have been several examples in television of accident prone characters.
There really are accident prone people, where no matter what they seem to do, something goes wrong. Thankfully for most of them, it tends to be limited to certain things.
This is why we can't have nice things D:
ReplyDeletehoo-boy...
ReplyDeleteSeth, you probably should remove this post. I see bookoodles of butthurt internet arguements arising. 9.9
the whole Derpy thing is just silly. I feel the majority of lovers outweighs the minority of haters. Get over it, folks! Derpy's not going anywhere!
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDelete@Vipera
I WILL NOW REMOVE MY COMMENT LIKE A LITTLE BITCH.
Yeah, sorry, I only read it, didn't click anything. Keep calm.
@Rycr
ReplyDeletethe store page is as you described, but my video list has it as i described it. so... not sure what's what...
Well, it is certainly JUST A GLITCH. Take a look, they also derp'd with the numbers.
ReplyDeleteSo many people bickering... What happened to love and tolerance?
ReplyDelete@SpikesQuest The only place she's going is wherever there's muffins. LOL
ReplyDeleteBut in all seriousness guys, let's calm down before one of us says something they're gonna regret. Things feel tense enough as it is.
On my cable provider's schedule, a repeat that was designated as The Last Roundup was strangely enough aired as The Cutie Pox.
ReplyDeleteAs Sethisto said, if they were trying to pull the episode, it wouldn't still be on the Hubworld website. They have more direct control over that than iTunes.
ReplyDeleteGod i hate people, especially when it comes to mental illnesses, cuz those people flip the hell out when the word "retard" is dropped... NO your "retard" son isn't getting offended by the word hes not even seeing, you are. So stop looking for reasons to b!tch about nothing.
ReplyDeleteI hate to sound harsh but people overreact about something that affects nobody.
Also, im pretty sure theyre gonna get a LOOOOT more mail if they change derpy back than if they leave it the way it is....
@moonsugar
ReplyDeleteour fandom reached critical mass between seasons. crossing the line between 'small quirky community' and slipping into 'large unwieldy entity'. it's a sad fact of reality that, once something gets to a certain sizes, the hivemind begins to in fight.
your best bet is to sit back, enjoy the portions you like, and shrug off the rest. or move on if you must.
@Canvas Wolf Doll Maybe when The Last Roundup was deleted or accidentally removed or whatever, it messed up the numbering. Since I apparently bought my season pass shortly after it happened, the episodes I downloaded had the screwy numbering. Since you had those episodes beforehand, yours are still fine.
ReplyDeleteAt least, that's what I think happened.
@Overkill
ReplyDeleteIt's all good. I was a bit terse only because I question the accuracy of the claims made in that screencap.
I think trolls did it. they posed as bronies and all got together to send in letters to complain about derpy. And I really can't see how any brony would complain about derpy. I honestly don't.
ReplyDeleteLOL why would anybody pay an apple company for something thats free on Youtube? I have firefox and its free youtube downloader and I have all the episodes in 1080p. Seriously I wonder about people...
ReplyDeleteGuys we are broies we are a community recognized for love and tolerate each everything... why so much hate right now?
ReplyDeleteAnd now about derpy... i cant believe that someone send angry letter to the ones that give us such and awesome gift like making her canon
@RaptorArts I pay in hopes that the people involved in creating the show are getting some of my money. After all, they certainly deserve it.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to make a prediction:
ReplyDeleteCurrently, there are a few people that don't like the voice of Derpy. Not many, but it was enough that made Tabitha apologize about it for it was a slight mistake.
If they decide to change Derpy's voice now to be more like the fanon voice, I predict more people will hate it. "If you try pleasing everypony, you most often might end up pleasing nopony."
I personally like Derpy's voice the way it is. She sounds silly, and she's a might clumsy, and... that's fine. There have always been characters like that in cartoons, so why not this one?
@RaptorArts
ReplyDeleteBecause you know, they actually wan't to support the show they watch?
Call me crazy but some people actually like doing that, I can't as I live in the UK but I would buy them if I could.
@Rycr
ReplyDeletesounds like a fair assessment. i bought mine as soon as it came up for purchase.
mystery solved, fellow investigator!
I'm getting sick of all the people shouting about how Derpy is obviously a slash against people with Down Syndrome, have the people saying this ever watched a cartoon in their lives?
ReplyDeletePatrick in Spongebob, Goofy in Old Disney, Bunny in Powerpuff Girls, Deedee in Dexter's Lab, Bebop and Rocksteady in Ninja Turtles, the list goes on.
Incompetent cartoon characters have been a norm since the 20's and most of the time they have a goofy or over-exaggeratedly stupid voice, these people could have been happy that Derpy had become official but yet they chose to complain instead, it's really sad that this is the thanks they get for pandering to the fanbase.
I would say to not be concerned about this, but does anyone remember the whole controversy with the 200 and 201st episodes of south park? They're still unavailable on itunes because they made fun of the fact that they are not allowed to make fun of Mohammed.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that this is nothing, but it's something I could see happening, if they pull everything that some people may find offensive then what the hell will we be left with?
I agree with Yelling at Cats.
ReplyDeleteBitching about it to Hasbro was uncalled for. They should know just as well as anyone else that it wasn't intended to look like what they thought it was, and it wasn't.
Seriously, is there any reason to get butthurt over the smallest things that bear any similarity to real life, even if it's not a direct relation?
It was meant to be cute and funny, and I'm really ashamed of everyone that instantly jumped into a "bashing the mentally challenged" accusation, because clearly something else is on their mind other than fun.
@LacionARG You can't blame us if we get a little, for lack of a better word, "crazy." We're not perfect by any means and emotions will overflow a little. Besides, in the end, this is just gonna be water under the bridge.
ReplyDeleteI hope Seth edits the post to let people know that the screenshot was debunked within hours. Nothing in that ponychan post ever actually happened. There were no hordes of people writing letters to AKR, Hasbro had no idea of any blacklash (because there is none), and everything is fine.
ReplyDeleteAtleast everything WAS fine while this whole idea of a backlash was contained to /pony/. Now that it's spread to EQD, hundreds or thousands of people will flood Hasbro, DHX, and the writers, telling them about how sorry they are about the backlash, even though it doesn't exist. No good can come from this post, no good at all. All EQD is doing is letting the internet community invent enemies that aren't there.
Guys i think that some trolls are playing with us making this bigger than it is and trying to make this community get mad but remember LOVE AND TOLERANCE
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that not a single comment in this thread has been anti-Derpy so far.
ReplyDeleteGood job, fellows.
I hope this all blows over soon and we can go back to loving and tolerating the snot out of each other. Infighting in a fandom is never fun.
ReplyDelete@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteThis. A thousand times this.
i.e. this whole eqd post should be removed asap
Maybe Studio B is having Tabitha redo her Derpy lines in a mare voice, and the "New" version is gonna be replacing the current one on iTunes.
ReplyDelete@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteNow that's innacurate. EQD is providing the news, it's what they do. That's just interpretation of a simple news piece.
@Oceanity
ReplyDeleteThose style of characters are not just in cartoons either. They show up in entertainment all the time.
@dw1482
I actually find that funny, and part of why I see political correctness as a problem. Not because I dislike religion, but there has been a rather drastic double standard involving comedy and certain religions at the moment.
@Vipera
ReplyDeleteExactly. inb4 trolls did it.
Think about it. Is it actually, really plausible for bronies to not like derpy's voice? Sure, there might be some that are against it, but not any to where it drives them to write angry letters to hasbro. I'm telling you, it was trolls.
@James Corck
ReplyDeleteWell then this news organization didn't do any investigating into the screenshot, or they would have known that it was total bullshit. :)
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be the first time a news site screwed up the research ¬_¬
However, I might make it sound like I was attacking you before. I wasn't. I am in your boat man, I wholeheartedly agree with you. If it sounded like I was saying otherwise, I'm sorry. I just get jumpy when people tell me to stfu ^_^;
Guys, if you want proof that the "backlash" is either much smaller than believed or simply nonexistent, check out this page on Tabitha's site. Apparently she's actually personally received a lot of positive feedback about Derpy's voice (amid feedback about her other characters as well).
ReplyDeleteSo I'm definitely of the mind that this was a mistake on Apple's part, not something the Hub did intentionally.
@DongleKumquat Maybe a few extremists, but you got a point that it could simply be trolls. Shame that such a brand of troll exists; the ones that make it their mission to complete derail things. That's why we gotta keep a level head.
ReplyDelete@DongleKumquat
ReplyDeleteit's nobody, because nobody is writing Hasbro over it. So it's not even trolls.
A couple people contacted Tabitha, asking her about her inspiration for Derpy's voice, and a few also maybe to complain.
and 5 people complained to AKR about some nonsense about ablism.
@James Corck
ReplyDeleteya...I should have said that, I'm sorry.
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteNo worries pal *brohoof* /)*(\
@James Corck
ReplyDelete/)*(\
well i see now how everyone its making the peace THATS WHY I LOVE THIS COMMUNITY BROHOOF TO ALL :D /)
ReplyDeleteI think it's entirely possible that nonbrony adults who watched the episode with their kids might have been offended for some reason. I'm pretty sure little girls also watch the show :p. They probably also tend to listen to them more, since that is their actual target audience and it is a show on the Hub. Children's shows tend to be more picky about what they can show, for obvious reasons.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I could see people being upset with the voice and implication of being slow, due to the whole Political Correctness™ thing people want. Even though we know it was silly and clumsiness, it could definitely be misinterpreted.
If this is the problem, I think it'd be easily solvable by using a voice closer to what the brony community has been using. Higher pitch and silly (and muffins). If I knew who to suggest the change, I would.
Of course this is all assuming that this was the problem, which I have my doubts about. I'm just saying I think it's possible. I personally have no issue with the voice. I'm fine with whatever they choose. If it is the problem, I don't want them to do something drastic like cutting her. :<
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty much it in a nutshell. A grand total of five emails were sent to Amy Keating Rogers, the writer who worked on the episode, over the Derpy scene. Flyleaf, the user in the linked image, was not even one of them, though she had her own personal grievances with Derpy.
The whole ordeal has been spectacularly overblown.
excellent, hopefully we get an altered scene where she is called ditzy
ReplyDelete@Unknown
ReplyDeleteOh, you.
@Unknown
ReplyDelete*facehoof*
@dragonrage40x
ReplyDeletewhich is why any evidence of this whole ordeal should be killed with fire.
@unknown that post was bad and you should feel bad.
@burntfish44
ReplyDeleteLMAO! We should spam Seth with emails, telling him that there's a massive backlash against this post. XD How fucking funny would that be?
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteTHIS
Brohoof, bro.
The Ditzy fans have struck back, haha! we will be victorious
ReplyDelete@Unknown
ReplyDeleteThe hordes of Ditzy fans. All one of them, lol.
I was certain immediately that there was never any intent to make Derpy sound like she had Down's Syndrome or such. But considering it was a misunderstanding that led to that interpretation in the first place, it wouldn't bother me if they slightly redid one or two lines just for the sake of alleviating the misconstrued perception. I have seen quite a few people bothered by it, and although I wasn't one of them, it might be nice for it to be clearer that she's just a little ditzy.
ReplyDeleteHowever, does that EVER actually happen, that a show goes back and edits part of an episode?
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteLOL YEAH, we should also ask him if he knows how magnets work!! And use their instead of they're!!
@reclaimedvalor Let's do it. :P
ReplyDeleteyeah crunch nugget, the spongebob episode just one bite was edited after it's release
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could consider anyone who gets an episode taken off the air to be a brony, if it came to that. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should make sure to send them nice emails saying we love Derpy.
lol not removed but slightly altered
ReplyDeleteI'm kidding, I'm just pointing out how funny it would be, because us scaring Seth into believing that there's a backlash would mirror the Derpy situation :)
ReplyDelete@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteyo dawg, i heard you like backlashes, so were backlashing about your backlash, so you can flip out about nothing while you flip out about nothing!
@burntfish44
ReplyDeleterofl XD
@burntfish44 .....
ReplyDeleteIf this is all a hoax, then I feel kinda silly. :|
ReplyDelete@Oceanity
ReplyDeleteInteresting that you should mention Bunny from Powerpuff Girls: that's the one example I can think of of an character who did seem (intentionally or not) to be mentally disabled. That whole episode was kind of an uncomfortable experience.
The whole "Controversy" eroded my like for the fandom.
ReplyDeleteA lot of things are doing that these days....
It boggles my mind that of all the things people could chose to be upset about they chose to be upset over the portrayal of a cartoon pony who was portrayed that way specifically for the fans.
Seriously get into the real world and at least be upset over actual problems.
@Crunch Nugget
ReplyDeleteNO. That would be giving overly sensitive little flowers what they want.
They don't deserve what they want, it's not good for them to get what they want (seriously being that sensitive and easily offended is not a good thing) and they should not get what they want.
If it *did* get taken down because of the complaints, I'm gonna smack someone. And I'm a very nonviolent person.
ReplyDeleteThat said, it's most likely some kinda glitch, because the current episode numbering goes 10, 11, 11, 12, 15.
lol u mad mojo?
ReplyDeletePeople flipping over nothing in the comments. Nothing new under the sun.
ReplyDeleteI personally prefer the name Derpy. We get given a nod to us like this (And in the past people have gone crazy over them not noticing us) and people take it way out on context.
ReplyDeleteI can see us now not getting anything come our way, because a few people have cried bloody murder over something so small.
So, thank guys, really thank you. Great way to show you support the show by kicking off over something that you got the wrong end of the stick off.
@Johuotar
ReplyDeleteHEAD FOR ZEE HILLS!!!!!!!!
No actually everything is fine over here right now. We're all in consensus that this was all over blown bullshit.
@Unknown
ReplyDeleteNot really, im annoyed with the stupidity and crying some in the Fandom show.
But offended? I think being offended by ANYTHING is stupid in this day and age. I haven't actually been offended in years.
boom, and now we have an edit to this post saying the screenshot was debunked. Show's over people :D
ReplyDeletethanks for coming, drive home safe. I think I'll actually head to dunkin donuts or something for a tasty coffee and a donut with extra sprinkles!
You guys should certainly include an adult in your staff who would tell you, when you are getting trolled ;) Screenshot from a chan as an evidence of anything... LoL
ReplyDeleteI'm inclined to agree with @Jessica C. Proabably parents, if it is even in fact a deliberate takedown which there is little evidence of.
ReplyDeletewho gave Derpy itunes?
ReplyDeleteThe amount of time and effort some folks are putting into messing with this fandom and the show in general could probably feed a small 3rd world nation. This is just insanity, I suppose one of the greatest fanbases ever is going to have one of the greatest backlashes as well.
ReplyDeleteStay hardy my bronies!
UGH!!! I bought the iTunes Episode, thought it's okay, because I already downloaded it, but PFFFF, apparently I was wrong!! I can't watch it anymore!!! SO MAD!! They BETTER put it back on there!!!
ReplyDeletei already sent seth a pic of the itunes store in complete shambles, the episode list is all over the place. i highly doubt its anything more than a bug in the system.
ReplyDeleteParents should stop being so sensitive and this is coming from an asbergers high functioning autism person -_-
ReplyDeletePersonally, I had first assumed it was because The Last Roundup was going to be on the DVD, so Hasbro asked iTunes not to sell it.
ReplyDeleteI may be a little late on this...but my iTunes is currently downloading The Last Roundup.
ReplyDeleteSo...I guess it hasn't disappeared?
@reclaimedvalor
ReplyDeleteSays you...
I, personally, have a preference for the name Ditzy.
'Derpy' may now be the 'official' name for her... but Ditzy will still be her second name, in any case.
Looks like you forgot to bold the l in "later".
ReplyDeleteWill he post anything else if it gets figured out
ReplyDeleteI wonder is this has something to do with the mis-numbered episodes that they had. I noticed that they numbered both Hearth's Warming Eve and Family Appreciation Day as the eleventh episode. They also did the same for Baby Cakes, making it number 12 instead of 13.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe there is something wrong with my version of itunes.
I TOLD YOU ALL THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN. NOW BRACE YOURSELVES FOR BBC TO SUE BECAUSE OF DOCTOR HOOVES.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone hears back from Apple about this, let us know.
ReplyDeleteStill no Last Round Up on iTunes. This makes me concerned and sad.
ReplyDeleteThe link to "The Last Roundup" on Hubworld is dead.
ReplyDeleteI fear for Derpy. 8C
