So... Octavia. She has a lot of music apparently. It's all pretty orchestral this time around, so go grab some dark coffee and a good book. Relaxation is the name of the game.
1.) Sonata Octavia
2.) Brony MACH - Octavia's Vision
3.) In memory of Broken Heartstrings

I guess that Octavia has become the face of symphonic music in this fandom.
ReplyDeleteI like it.
Yay more instrumentals.
ReplyDeleteSeth, y u make Equestria Daily so awesome? <3
ReplyDeleteYES! Just Yes...
ReplyDelete#2 is awesome!

these songs are quite good
It's more often than not instrumental and classical when it has my name apart of it's title in some form. ;)
ReplyDeleteI liked all three. Especially the second two. The second is nice and robust just as I like'em. And the third is very sweet-sounding and calm.
Ah, why I like Octavia. A representative of class. It's been awhile since I heard some attempts at contemporary music of this genre. Crossing my fingers.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine made #2! AWWWW YEEEEEEAHHHH!!!
ReplyDeleteI hath subscribed to every one of these arttists and downloaded every song (the viedeo itself for number two!). This is the first time that I have ever done that, and I have been frequenting EqD since summer. Well done. I am a classical pianist, and I am a sucker for classical/symphonic music.
ReplyDeleteBaschfire, you always were the best IMO for classical music from this fandom. Makkon is the best instrumentalist IMO, however.....but that might be a bit biased, considering it's his music that got me into this fandom
lol I heard the strings like "GARRITAN PERSONAL ORCHESTRA!" Fantastic music, it's truly beautiful
ReplyDeleteWhy do you despise me so Mr. Sethisto?
ReplyDeleteAnything that has caffeine in it is quite poisonous to me. I really don't like mountain dew as it made me deathly sick once and it's a heavily caffeine ladened drink.
One of the reasons why Sprite and fruit juices are all I basically drink other then water.
Good music, but I've been listening to Waterflame's 'Race around the World' for the last hour. (Spagonia Day Rooftop Run from Sonic: Unleashed and Super Mario Galaxy 2: Puzzle Plank Galaxy respectively are some of my favorites. At least classical music isn't dying out.)
@D. Shadows
ReplyDeleteI love me a good Sprite~
Classical music will never die out. It has withstood the test of time, something that barely any other genre can account for.
Super Mario Galaxy Puzzle Plank galaxy.....man that song takes me back.......... Good song
@Bombedrumbum That makes two of us then. I enjoy rock and roll as much as the next guy, but there's something about classical music that keeps me coming back to them. It has the ability to go from soft & sweet to downright insane with dozens of instruments bombarding your ears at the same time. What's more, over half my music library is classical or some kind of instrumental music.
ReplyDeleteFunny. I enjoy my classical music racing down the highway. LOL
ReplyDelete#1 An interesting blend of instruments and a good drum beat made for an enjoyable song.
#2 Love the gradual swings in intensity. Goes from tame to powerful and then back to tame.
#3 I couldn't help but close my eyes and get lost in the melody. It was just so sweet and relaxing.
@CityFlyer502 same here.
ReplyDeleteAs a classical pianist, I have learned to enjoy the music from all of the ages, be it the Romantic era, Baroque era, or just plain contemporary. Classical music has been downplayed a lot in today's society, and it really is a shame.....
YES!!! THE OCTAVIA ONE IS UP!!! #2
ReplyDelete@Bronyoff Congratulations, man! 'Tis a great honor...
ReplyDeleteDark coffee? Man, i'm already on my third cup of the night! I'm ahead of the game for once. :P
ReplyDeleteSup' Bomb. Been a while, how's everything going with BROHOOF? :)
<3
ReplyDelete@ZeroHero Brohoof.......is dead.
ReplyDeleteThe spirit, however, lives on
@Bombedrumbum Well like you pretty much said, it's been a constant over the years. And there's so many different "flavors" of classical music. There's a really good classical station here in New York that touches all the bases. Shame about the downplaying. If people would get rid of their inhibitions and pre-conceived notions, they could come to enjoy it. Kind of sounds like our fandom if you think about it.
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteSweet Celestia! What happened?! I missed the fallout? Dear me, i feel even worse now.
You gotta fill me in, bro. I missed you guys while i was gone. I have many tales for the group, if you would permit me to rejoin that is.
@ZeroHero we've actually been looking for you to reinvite you :)
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteThis may sound weird but it is a big deal to hear you finally subscribe to us!! have been a fan of your comments and stuff for awhile now!!!
@CityFlyer502
ReplyDeleteMusicChoice- Light Classical station.
Here's some Classical music if you're ever in the mood. I sometimes just tune into Classical music, and if I hear a song that I like, i'll write it down on a little heavy-duty waterproof, camping notepad that I have. It has hundreds of songs written down in it, and these are just the best ones that I like!! Here's a list of some of them:
Chopin Etude No. 12 in C minor Op. 10
Johann Strauss, II "Du Und Du Waltz" from Die Fledermaus
Bach "Partita No. 1 in B Flat major/Preludium/cerrente"
Satie "Gymnopedie No. 2"
Faure "Impromptu No. 2 in F Minor, op. 31"
Offenbach "Orpheus in the Underworld/Overture"
Beethoven "Rage over a Lost Penny; Rondo Op. 129"
Bizet "L'arlesienne, Suite no. 1/Prelude"
Chopin "Etude No. 3 in E Major Op. 10"
Rachmaninoff "Prelude in G, Op 32, No. 5"
Bach "Italian Concerto in F, BWV 971"
Granados "Zarabanda" HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Sibelius "Karella Suite/Intermezzo"
Guastavino "Baile (from Tres Romances)"
Beethoven "Piano Sonata no. 13 in E Flat Op. 27 1. Adante
James Galway- idunno why I wrote this in my notepad, but all I wrote was his name
Mozart "Rondeau"
Scarbo by Ravell (Ravell is the one who wrote it, Scarbo is the name of the song)
Liebermann nocturne no. 4 op. 38
Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C# minor
Suggestion Diabolique (song name)
William Sterndale Bennet "Impromptu No. 3/Presto"
Respighi "The birds: the Hen"
Camille Saint- Saens "Piano Concerto No. 5 in F/Motto Allegro"
Field "Rondeau Ecossois"
Granados "Zarabanda" (apparantly I wrote this twice)
Johann Strauss "Travel Adventures"
Juan Vicente Lecuno "Valse Venezolano"
(i'm writing this straight frlm my notepad:) SCHUBERT/LISZT "Standchen"
Offenbach "Orphee Aux Enfers/Overture" (you might know it as "The can-can")
Granados "Minueto"
Vaughan Williams "March past of the Kitchen Utensils (The wasps)"
Friedrich Nietzche "Im Mondshein Auf Der Puszta"
Thaikovsky "Capriccioso in B Flat Major, Op. 19, No. 5"
ETCETERA.
@Bronyoff LIKE MY COMMENTS, YOU SAY?!
ReplyDeleteLol, have over 10,000 of my comments XD
You know that I make music to? Look up my YouTube account, Bombedrumbum, for some horrible, yet organic, piano sketches
@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteAwh. really? I appreciate that. really, i do. :)
I guess i'll meet you at the new post for discussion then. :D
@Bronyoff "finally subscribe to us".........MY GOD, FTFC, THERE'S ANOTHER ONE WHO USES THE WORD WE!!!
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum Quite the list you've put together here. I've actually got most of these in my library, though I can never be bothered to pick out a favorite. Lately, when I'm not playing pony music, I've been playing back an old Horowitz album that I dug up at a thrift store pretty much on loop. But in any case, thanks for the suggestions.
ReplyDelete#1 seems to electronic while both #2 and #3 had amazing tunes and were natural sounding with #2 being the more exciting fast paced and #3 being calming and peaceful. i greatly enjoyed #2 and #3
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDelete"Whistles"
I think 'Flight of the Bumblebee' was the first classical music I've ever heard and is the only one that I can ever truly remember the name of other then 'Ride of the Valkries' Or 'Beethovens 9th in D minor'.
Hold on... 'Night on Bald Mountain', but only because of Earthworm Jim can I remember that.
My knowledge of music is kind of sporadic in nature in comparison. All I know how to do with a piano is play the star wars theme, which just about anyone could do. (I knew so many talented people and was never good at music myself. Everything ranging from Didgeridoos, Pianos, Saxphones, Trombones, Bag Pipes, Accordians, Susaphones, Drums and Guitar. I know two that can play most of those, sadly don't have the talent to make music myself.)
@CityFlyer502 why, thank you!
ReplyDeleteAhh, Horowitz. Hin and the perfessor Bill Edwards are my favorite performers.
@D. Shadows my next door neighbor grew up a traditional Italian, and is now very high up in the navy. (That, and a kid in my class who I am rather close to's dad just went to DC to the pentagon to become fleet admiral or something there makes me pretty safe on a naval base) anyways, he gave my brother and I a bongo and a ukulele, which I taught myself how to play. He also has many other exotic instruments, such as two didgeridoos. I actually once seriously considered playing the bagpipes
This song along with Golliwog's Cakewalk are some of my favorite ragtime pieces.
ReplyDeleteAhh, ragtime. So difficult, yet so fun~
@Bombedrumbum Yeah, ragtime is so much fun to listen but I find it a bit of a pain to get right. The funny thing is that I need to invoke that kind of playing style when I'm playing music from Central America. There's quite a few that are marimba based, so I basically gotta find a way to make two hands do what up to 8+ people do behind one instrument. Something ragtime like is what I resort to in those cases.
ReplyDelete@CityFlyer502 how long have you been playing the piano?
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum It's been on and off for the past fifteen years or so. Lately, I've been more into guitar, but I still break out the keyboard occasionally. And every once in a while I sneak away to a Steinway showroom that's in midtown Manhattan just to hear what it sounds like on the real deal.
ReplyDelete@CityFlyer502 I have been playing for six years now. I have an heirloom grand piano. It sounds incredible for about a month after I tune it, and then for the other eleven months it just sounds fantastic. I still prefer concert pianos, such as Steinways, because of the sheer quality, but I love what I have.
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteTrust me, Bagpipes aren't easy and they weren't easy to watch someone else play them badly. Need a set o' lungs for them ye' do, also it is rumored that living on stuffed sheeps lungs can make anyone a blowhard. Humorously enough.
I've heard good bagpipe players and it's quite the acquired taste if you have even a smidge of Irish or Scottish monster in the blood.
However played badly, it sounds like you are strangling a cat inside of a cows stomach through the wall of flesh after the demonic cow has swallowed the poor feisty feline whole.
In other words it's the ancient tale of a Banshee's wale.
@Bombedrumbum Wow. I can only imagine owning the actual instrument for now. Since I live in an apartment, we always have to be noise conscious, so I can't even think of getting so much as a small upright. Concert pianos are great, but I wouldn't want to own one; just too big. I'd be happy with a baby or medium grand.
ReplyDelete@D. Shadows Well I'm neither Irish or Scottish, yet I can definitely appreciate a good bagpipe tune. If it's a really good tune, I'll take it in whatever form it comes. Though as far as playing them, I'd be as qualified as Fluttershy is at talking loudly (under normal circumstances.) Just don't have the lungs.
ReplyDeleteReading "The Price of Grace" to this selection.
ReplyDeleteThanks to my huge dad, I ave lungs about twice or even three times the normal size, and ima ginger with about 1/8 Irish blood. It's a shame that kost people think that Irish people are Scottish....
ReplyDeleteMore like this, it's rare to see music like this on EQD, usually we getti'n dubstep/rock/other modern music. It's nice to hear some nice sounds from classical instuments, rather than guitar, precussion and beats:)
ReplyDelete@Bosik so true
ReplyDelete@Bosik I don't mind my share of electronic music, but this is more along the lines of what I usually listen to. What's more, I never would have heard of dubstep if it weren't for this fandom.
ReplyDelete@CityFlyer502 I would never have heard of Scatman John either.
ReplyDeleteMay we continue this conversation elsewhere?
@CityFlyer502
ReplyDeleteBoth genres are nice, but I just preffer classic than those modern, these songs, maybe aren't perfect, but they are nice written and performed. I'm just happy to hear something diffrent from modern-dominated fandom:)
@Bosik well said.
ReplyDeleteI too share such views.
I loved all of these. :D
ReplyDeleteAlso, Octavia is awesome. She inspired me to learn how to play cello.
@he is right there!
ReplyDeleteWhat a noble inspiration!
@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I'm trying to find a teacher now.
@He's right there!
ReplyDeleteCello, piano, viola, flute, harp, all these are wondeful instruments
@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteAgreed, my brother is trying to learn violin. We are thinking about playing together.
I've listened to classical music when I slept since I was four. I always found it incredibly peaceful and calming.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to learn how to play violin, but it sucks, that u have to start as a child to play it very good, also most of music schools, don't allow you to study there, because you are older than 6-9
ReplyDelete@Bosik
ReplyDeleteWell I'm 13 so I think I might still be young enough. Maybe.
When I was 13, I won a talent show for playing fast songs blindfolded. Easiest 100 bucks I ever made.
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you sir. Most impressive.
I really wish I started earlier.
Lovely bunch of music. 3 reminds me of something from The Nightmare Before Christmas for some reason.
ReplyDelete@Bombedrumbum
ReplyDeleteYay! We are not alone! Sadly according to their Youtube account, they state that they are a group of bronies.
This was a GREAT music post. We love all of them. As a couple others have already, 3 new subs.
#2 is by far our favorite one in this set, powerful and beautiful.
@ftfc
ReplyDeleteDERP! 3rd one was by Baschfire whom we had already subbed to.
If I hadn't woken anyone up while I listened to this, I'd continue. That first one sounds so good, even for the paltry amount of time that I'd heard it.
ReplyDeleteThis post: 120% cooler. Universally epic.
