That HP setup was indeed a hoax, and I fell for it all the way. I didn't set it up, but it ensnared me rather easily. Looking back, it's laughably obvious that I should've been much warier and wiser. I should recognize such fabrications. Regardless, I accept full responsibility for my egregious mistake and sincerely apologize for it. I'm sorry, everyone. I got duped.
My fatal flaw is that I illogically hope for all people to be straightforward and honest. Consider the somber reality otherwise a harsh lesson learned...again.
Update: Thank you all for the support - most sincerely. =) Pony fans *are* the greatest people in the world. I'll carry on, and I'll enjoy the ride with all of you! For now, Tek out.

It's fine... it was an exciting thing, and quite a few of us got swept up in the idea.
ReplyDeleteJust like Flim & Flam. We should all learn from ponies. :P
Don't worry, it seemed legit
ReplyDeleteNow I want to know what this setup was.
ReplyDeleteIt happens, bro. If it makes you feel any better, I plan on making something similar happen to my actual laptop!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAww, I was kind of looking forward to that.
ReplyDeleteAww, that's okay. I fell for it too.
ReplyDeleteBummer dude.
ReplyDeleteAt the very least, it was a very elaborate and convincing hoax. Had me fooled too.
People suck, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the end of the world, it's not like I planned on buying one anyway.
ReplyDeleteWe wanted it to be real. Don't worry about it :D
ReplyDeleteWell, that sucks. I was looking forward to having a Twilight laptop. :(
ReplyDeleteAs the saying goes, "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is."
ReplyDeleteI'm older than your average brony (38); I catch stuff like this a bit more easily. If this was 10 or 20 years ago, they would have had me too.
It's ok. Happens to the best of us.
ReplyDeletewhat happened?
ReplyDeleteLooks like someone has a letter to write to the Princess. *hands scroll and quill*
ReplyDelete(read in Pinkie Pie voice) Don't worry! We still love you!
ReplyDeleteHey dude, we all make mistakes, and we wouldn't be good bronies if we didn't forgive =)
ReplyDelete*Brohug*
Don't worry man! It was a very well made troll. And I am being straightforward and honest.
What did I miss? I don't understand
ReplyDeleteIt's okay. Knowing this fandom, we'll make it real one way or another soon enough.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, easy there! No reason to beat yourself up over this. I'm certain it was just an honest mistake. We learn to look things over a little more carefully for next time and move on. And from what I've been looking at, it's everyone that's called you a troll that should be apologizing.
ReplyDeleteNo problem.
ReplyDeleteFluttershy: Oh Tekaramity, you're not a failure!
ReplyDeleteIt's alright, don't worry about it
ReplyDeleteto good to be true... T_T
ReplyDeleteMeh don't worry about it. Most people didn't seem to fall for it anyway so I'm sure no one really minds.
ReplyDelete@XyroTR1 Any chance of sharing the process with us?
ReplyDeleteIt's no problem man. These things can happen to the best of us, so don't beat yourself up about it.
ReplyDeletehey xyro, i didn't know you modded here.
ReplyDeleteNot everypony is AJ, ya know. :[
ReplyDeleteIt's alright, its not that big of a deal. I forgive you, it did seem pretty legit at first :) Don't beat yourself up, we still love you!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm sorry for all the comments floating around accusing you of starting this, some ponies just like to jump the fence and blame the first pony they can
Happens dude, I don't think you should need to apologize but it says a lot for your integrity that you did.
ReplyDeleteAw man, I thought we were actually getting some awesome merch for a change. :( Oh well, these things happen.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I believed it too. Don't worry. We all make mistakes. That is what makes us ponies (Rarity told me this earlier, lolz)
ReplyDeleteEveryone makes mistakes!
ReplyDeleteYou can say that you are generally optimistic and look into the good things!
I'm very pessimistic and always expect the worst.
I hope your career as mod/admin doesn't end because of that :(. I saw your comment being blue instead of red.
I knew something like this was gonna pop-up ._.
ReplyDeleteWe still love you. ^^
ReplyDeleteCan you do me a little favor, though? Where can I find good stickers to make my laptop be that much pony?
It's ok Tek, this stuff happens to everyone at some point or another.
ReplyDeleteNo need to be all sad Tek, it's nothing terrible.
ReplyDeleteYou got trolled by a pretty dedicated troll. Look at the funny side of it; nobody blames you or thinks you should be sent to the moon.
At least you have a valid lesson to put in a letter to Trollestia, rather than what we heard from AJ today (I loved that letter).
It's cool Tek, we still love you !
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about it, it was harmless and fun to speculate about. I didn't mind at all.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe account is already down. Farewell Not-HP, we knew you little.
ReplyDeleteIn retrospect, I'm confused as to why I thought it was plausible for HP to have a DA page and for them to announce products over it.
ReplyDeleteI love you Tek...I'm so sorry that this happened. T.T We both got fooled by that account...v.v -so many comforting hugs to my best friend in the world-
ReplyDeleteI knew it! Hasbro would never allow such a thing!
ReplyDeleteAw, hey, no biggie, man. Don't beat yourself up. Not on our account, anyway.
ReplyDeleteNopony blames you, Flim & Flam set up a damn good looking trap.
ReplyDeletedont beat yourself up about it, its not a big deal at all
ReplyDeletedont beat yourself up about it, its not a big deal at all
ReplyDeleteAww, don't stress it bro. S' all good.
ReplyDeleteIt happens, things like this are mistaken for the real thing all the time.Nothing to feel bad about.
ReplyDeleteWe all make steaks at some point in time.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was legit too. They had been posting stuff that wasn't Pony for a while about HP. The Katy Perry pics were up, "because" she was performin at the HP Pavilion. dA would be an ideal place to gauge interest in designs.
ReplyDeleteIt was a roundabout way to "troll" us. And Al_Skylark is right. We'd be terrible bronies if we didn't forgive honest mistakes (especially when they were ones a lot of people fell for.)
It's cool Tek, we all make mistakes, and this is hardly something to beat yourself up over.
ReplyDeleteIt IS weird, however, to see a post without an image. =P
@CityFlyer502
ReplyDeleteI'm shooting to get a vinyl made for it. However, I won't be able to find out if it's feasible until late next month when my vinyl-making friends come in town for a convention. If it goes down as awesome as I plan for it to, expect pictures, maybe even a post! :)
Also it looks like Tek is not very active and used to DeviantArt. So he didn't find it very weird that a company like HP has an account here first.
ReplyDeleteI mean on Facebook it would make sense, but on an Art community?
No need to apologize. Trolls troll and we all have fallen for it at least once.
ReplyDelete@Caboose
ReplyDeleteWah! You went and edited it! I am undone!
Curse you, Tek!
It's cool, dude. As shams go, at least it was an entertaining and harmless one! =)
ReplyDeleteBesides, in my experience such things ultimately bounce right off strong people such as these. For all you know, someone's already set about making and selling legit customized pony laptops because of being exposed to this!
I think a lot of brilliant ideas started off as jokes and trollage that were taken seriously.
Oh Trolls saw opportunity in this happy community.
ReplyDelete"My fatal flaw is that I illogically hope for all people to be straightforward and honest. Consider the somber reality otherwise a harsh lesson learned...again. v.v"
ReplyDeleteAll this needs is a "Dear Princess Celestia" at the start. ^__^
Oh, and sorry for having previously assumed that you had set it all up. =P
ReplyDelete@XyroTR1 Well if you can, definitely keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteaw, don't be upset. it's not a big deal! :) if anything, it will give this talented community ideas and someone will make it happen.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, are we gonna get a drawfriend any time soon?
ReplyDeleteEverypony buggers up at some point, but it takes a big pony to admit that they did.
ReplyDelete@Kixu That could possibly be a new frontier for those that make custom pony stuff. We know mods exist on an individual scale. Maybe someone will go large scale with it or something.
ReplyDelete@Verbose
ReplyDeleteThat was terribly written.
I think this says it all.
ReplyDeletehttp://knowyourmeme.com/photos/241112-my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic
>acting like being the first time on the fucking internet
ReplyDeleteIt's okay, Tek! -hugs- I have the same problem.
ReplyDeleteokey
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, when I saw it, I thought it was skins and I was getting excited. At least you admitted a mistake when you caught it, which is more than most others on the net would, so, thank you, and no harm done.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, that was one good troll o_o
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, it's alright. I bet the real HP guys were confused as hell when they saw that :P
Tekaramity, element of honesty. No, seriously, 's cool, bro, don't feel bad.
ReplyDeleteEh, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Some people are just like that, and heaven only knows why.
ReplyDeleteIn the future, maybe you should show these things to someone else first and discuss whether it's legit, particularly if it's from a questionable source.
Like I said earlier, whoever put this together has way too much free time on their hands, and should really find something more productive to do. xD
damn but hey can't be right all the time
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with this.
ReplyDeleteEh, hoaxes could be a lot worse.
ReplyDeleteWait, what happened? What's this about Tekaramity and HP?
ReplyDeleteTek, you didn't do anything stupid like resign, did you? You're awesome, stay a mod.
ReplyDeleteHave you written to Celestia about this yet Tekaramity? You're supposed to write a letter every time you learn a lesson.
ReplyDeletealso tek, what the heck was this all about? http://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/art/Congratulations-Tekaramity-281378413
ReplyDeleteI dun got bamboozled!
ReplyDeleteAh well it was cool while it lasted.
You mean...
ReplyDeleteNo Twilight Laptop?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsf6s-FxrmU
I need to thank you, Tekaramity.
ReplyDeleteFor failing.
All this time, you have been somepony to look up to. You have made me want to be a better pony. But at the same time...you were too good. You were an impossible standard. Tonight, you have made it easier for me to live with myself.
@su1
ReplyDeleteBeing the friendly commenter that he is, Tek was "awarded" for being an active fan on the account.
@ddf
ReplyDeleteSolution: Print out Twilight's cutie mark and tape it to the back of your laptop.
Anyways...I'm most surprised that people would be so gullible about something like this. HP making a DA account out of the blue and suddenly announcing MLP products on it? And people don't question that at all? Ya'll need to be a little more skeptical I reckon.
Thinking about it some more, I guess whoever put up the fake HP page thought they saw...
ReplyDelete...an opportunity to defraud the Brony community.
Thankfully, their flim-flam was pointed out in time.
"My fatal flaw is that I illogically hope for all people to be straightforward and honest."
ReplyDeleteSad but true. Mistakes happen, and this one was entertaining and harmless. As for anyone saying you're a troll, just try to ignore them as best you can; it's human nature to blame whoever's nearest. :P
I totally hope this inspires somepony to make vinyl skins for things like laptops, or better yet, nintendo 3ds!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you screwed up. But you also got that interview with Jayson back in September, so all is forgiven.
ReplyDeleteWe can't stay mad at you, Tekaramity.
ReplyDeleteIf anything, props to you for being able to admit you made a mistake.
Now if HP took the opportunity to make a new line of Pony Laptops, they would be 20% cooler.
It's cool. We all get suckered once and a while. You admitted your mistake and that's all there is to it. Nobody worth knowing thinks any less of you.
ReplyDelete*man hug*
I have that same problem too, brohoof!
ReplyDeleteIt happens, Tek, don't be hard on yourself, bud. We all still love you!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about it.
ReplyDeleteIts ok, everypony makes mistakes <3
ReplyDelete@TickleMeFrosty
ReplyDeleteeither that, or it was tek all along trolling US.
I totally hope this inspires somepony to make vinyl skins for things like laptops, or better yet, nintendo 3ds!
ReplyDeleteOh Tek,wonderful amazing Tek. It's a painfully easy thing to fall prey to. We all want thigns like this to be true and it's a simple matter to get caught up in the enthusiasm and joy of the moment.
ReplyDeleteYou're an amazing friend and a great asset to EqD and the fandom. Don't stay mad at yourself, it's not worth, and in the end no harm was done.
Now get back to being awesome!
You need to write to Prinecess Celestia about it!! >^^<
ReplyDeleteNo problem
ReplyDeleteThanks for clearing it up :)
Sorry for accusing you of trolling...
Dont worry man it looked really legit :) besides this can inspire people to do something like that to their own laptops :)
ReplyDeleteSilly Tek, it's all good.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about it, man. We all make mistakes.
ReplyDelete@su1
ReplyDeleteNo, he wasn't.
It happens to the best of us. I don't blame you, and I'm glad it got cleared up the same day it got shown off.
ReplyDeletePeople were worried that you were losing modship over this whole dustup, but given the reactions, I doubt that's happening. Just keep you eyes open and don't be afraid to double check with others first if you need help.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteSeth: For incompetence of moderation command. For failure to abide by EQD safety regulations in a live fire exercise. For negligence which contributed to the death of a teammate. Recruit trainee Tekaramity Rico is sentenced to Administrative Punishment. Ten lashes.
ReplyDelete*Phoe whispers to Tek*
"Bite down on this, son. It helps. I know."
Tek, I can only speak for myself, and I can tell you that I forgave you the first time you admitted the mistake.
ReplyDeleteI read some worries about you losing mod status. I get the feeling you didn't because you were able to post this (and because the other mods/admins seem to be cool with you, judging by the comments), but if you did, I hope you get it back soon.
Thanks for being human, Tek. Look at it this way: Nopony lost any money on this! :D
Owch. Well If what I think happened is what happened, I'm sorry. Dont worry, though, for when I am rich and famous I will give you what was promised! And punish those evil trolls...
ReplyDeleteWe all fail at sometime, fortunately most don't have so many witnesses. I forgive you Tekaramity.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about it. It did seem legit. The fact that it even seemed legit is a testament to how far our community has come.
ReplyDeleteMy brother has a vinyl cutter-- I really wish I could convince him to jump on this!
ReplyDeleteNo harm, no foul.
ReplyDeleteThe only losers here are HP, just think about how much $$$ they could have made if they did this :P
Yeah don't feel bad. Many of us fell for it.
ReplyDeleteNo harm done
ReplyDeletewhoa dog, chill! it aint even yo fault.
ReplyDeleteAs far as trolls go, this is way better than a Habsro takedown. Can we get this guy on PR?
ReplyDeleteNo prob.
ReplyDeleteIts okay
ReplyDeletewe all get trolled by others
If I've learned anything from MLP, it's that pranking can be fun as long as it's harmless, and this one seemed harmless enough. Nothing to be ashamed of. Even Pinkie and RD love getting a good joke played on them!
ReplyDeleteWe love Tek! Plus, some people might still use the idea on their own custom decals.
ReplyDeleteIt's all good, buddy. Everyone slips up and falls eventually - it's the process of picking yourself up off the floor that's more important.
ReplyDeleteHope we can talk soon~
That's a bummer :( Account looked pretty legit. Oh well ^^ Cutie Mark stickers it is! :D
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about it Seth. Had many of us fooled I'm sure. If anything it will inspire somone to make such a laptop!!
ReplyDeleteDude relax, no big deal :)
ReplyDeleteJust forget about it.
Aww, it's cool. We all get trolled sometime, and all we can do is respect you more for admitting your mistake.
ReplyDeleteWhat confuses me is how, despite trolling hundreds, whoever was running that account never did anything hateful. Even in their, unfortunately fake, congratulations to Tek, they seemed completely honest, without any biting sarcasm or anything. In their responses to comments, they genuinely seemed like a rep from HP.
All I can really say is, we've been FlimFlammed XD.
@bestpony? AJ ;)
ReplyDeleteheh heh. you trolled yourself ;)
I kind of fell for it, but not completely.
ReplyDeleteBut I decided to use money at the screen meme just for the hell of it.
Wzit. can i get a fill in. what happened?
ReplyDeleteI know that feel bro.
ReplyDeleteIt's ok! I found a Ukrainian website that sells them on the cheap! Comes with a free box containing all the tea in China! :P Happens to anyone brony, no bigs deals!
ReplyDeleteIt's all good Tek, we still love you!
ReplyDeleteWe all make mistakes, and nothing was lost from this. It takes a big man (or international secret spy pony) to take responsibility.
I didn't think it was possible, but my respect for you has been doubled!
To be honest, when I saw the post I figured you were just trolling us. Now I realize you were the one being trolled.
ReplyDeleteHey, no sweat man. It happens to us all.
I think you need a brony hug *hugs*
ReplyDeleteThat sucks so bad. Trolling us so hard, bet he has something to brag about now... ='(
ReplyDeleteNo worries. It can happen to the best of us.
ReplyDeleteEveryone makes mistakes, in hindsight I really should had logically seen that a Core i3 alone costs more than the entire rig that was announced, but I had faith it was true, if only for the advertisement it would had brought.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, don't blame yourself for it. It might have been a hoax, but it was a damn good one.
Yeah, it did look like average quality Photoshop to me. But don't worry about it mate, we've all fallen for some sort of hoax at least once in our lives.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful troll. There was nothing to be lost in asking and giving him my bank details + full name though.
ReplyDeleteRight??
@Tek Don't beat your self up too hard, it happens to everypony from time to time, and I have to admit they were a darn good troll. They went through a lot of setup and knew their HPs. First time I read it I was almost ready to toss money at them too (I got burned in the past by HP, but between the price and ponies that would have been a nice machine after a copy of Linux and some parts I have on hoof). Anyways... we still love you, and I hope we weren't too hard on you in the comments. I'm not sure what tone you got from it, but we had a good laugh anyways.
ReplyDeleteIf you want a pony laptop right now though, printable labels are a decent way to do it on the cheap (and I don't know to commission a vinyl anyways). Find a vector, print, x-acto, apply to any make and model. I'm sure there's a more elegant way, but it looks and works good enough for me.
And hey, you might have raised enough attention to get somepony to look into vinyls (looking at you, artsy types). And if not, still no harm done.
Hey, don't worry about it bro. I wanted it to be real, too.
ReplyDeleteDear Princess Celestia,
ReplyDeleteSOME PEOPLE LIE.
Your faithful student, Tek.
But anyway, just get over it. You learned from your mistake? Good, then that's all there is to it. No use dwelling on it.
Where the luv?
ReplyDeletethe luv
the luv
the luv
the luv
Perhaps you shoulod write to princess Celestia? <:)
ReplyDeleteI just read all 146 comments up to this point, I've never done that before.
ReplyDeleteYou've got a good community behind you Tek, I'm sorry to hear you got trolled like that.
We have a vinyl machine and do vinyl decals. Email wolfdragonproductions@yahoo.com for more information.
ReplyDeleteWell, I thought it sounded too good to be true. Still, people make mistakes, like EVERYPONY who is a mod here has told you. But it just goes to show that big companies like HP don't want to be associated with us, or the brony-haters will stop buying their machines. I say this cuz it's probably true.
ReplyDeleteNo biggie.
ReplyDeleteI think a fan created mod or sticker would be better than what a company would do.
But, as for my Mac, I used the sticker that I got with my welovefine order, (a steam punk rainbow dash), and stuck that on the front :D
Hehe. Don't worry, bro. Really. Things too nice are generally too nice but we fall for them anyway :)
ReplyDeleteLet's put all this HP business in the fic archive and share a laugh about it. Nothing bad has happened after all. Maybe even the troll will come and have a chat. You must agree that it was hilarious and quite professionally made ;)
@flustershy This is a perfect illustration of why being a poor, paranoid, right-wing conspiracy nut is the best possible thing! We assume EVERYONE is lying, and it's all a big scam (perpetrated by the Bildeburgs who control the banks, which they deliberately manipulated into failure to then lead to nationalization by the US government, which is under the control of the Illuminati working for the Papacy to trigger a 3rd World War, beginning with Iran, to demolish the interlinked world economy they created for that very purpose so they could then fabricate a World Religious Government from the ruins and institute a mandatory Sunday law).
ReplyDeleteIT ALL MAKES SENSE!!! *hoards guns and MREs*
@Anthony S. Where is the love?
ReplyDeleteThe lov3.
The luv.
Teh luv.
it's cool, dude. I was hoping it was true, and I'm sure that many other people did as well. It happens ^_^
ReplyDeleteWell, everyone makes mistakes. And it's even easier to mistake something so convincingly crafted on the surface.
ReplyDeleteS'okay, Tek. At least you didn't try to deny it.
Its all good
ReplyDelete@Senn555 Is it odd that the only way i could read your comment has in AJ's voice
ReplyDeleteI kind of fell for it too, Tek. Don't worry about too much though. We all make mistakes: nopony is perfect.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. I'm sure within the next week we'll have a real laptop that some brony made.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I wonder what the goal was behind this. If it was the user's pure amusement alone it seems odd that they'd get their 'jollies' over deceiving people, at least it seems like amusement someone would get if they were like, 12 years old. Not looking to attack the person behind it, just saying that I really don't think I could find entertainment behind getting someone excited by something and then telling them it was fake.
ReplyDeleteAnd if it was someone looking into pulling a scam, they could have tried a little harder.
Either way, still an interesting development. As for you Tek, shit happens. No big deal.
To be fair, that was a pretty impressively constructed deviant art profile. I didn't think anyone would put that kind of time into something fake. Hmm, guess people are bored. Darn, and I really wanted that mouse, too.
ReplyDelete@eaglehooves
ReplyDeleteI think I saw someone by the name of Vinylbot on Etsy that does MLP:FiM decals.
"My fatal flaw is that I illogically hope for all people to be straightforward and honest."
ReplyDeleteThat's just it! When it comes to the Brony community, we're so honest with each other that it's easy to just believe that something like this is true! We don't blame you, Tek.
So. Can anyone explain what happened?
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side, however, I imagine this will drive someone to actually make pony-themed laptop casings just to set things right again.
ReplyDelete@GreatAndMightyChampion: Earlier this morning there was a post made showing a rather beautiful Twighlight Sparkle-themed laptop. Fully lavender with her Cutie Mark emblazoned on it in impressively high quality.
It was touted as being an OFFICIAL Hewlitt-Packard product...only to turn out to be bogus. :[
I'll accept the apology if you drop the "I'm too naiive and innocent for this world full of liars" bit.
ReplyDeleteyour fatal flaw wasn't that you were too trustworthy, it was because you didn't fact check and do the research. even honest people will get things wrong without intending to lie. meaning even if you think it's legit, you need to verify.
it's okay, everyone makes mistakes, but you need to learn from your mistakes, and claiming you aren't used to dishonesty is not going to let that happen. heck, it barely counts as taking responsibility as it tries to pass off your part of the responsibility to someone else.
Ya know, Tek, I don't think it's your fault at all.
ReplyDeleteWe caught it before it became big, so no harm done, and no respect lost.
I saw their comment, (your friend was right, lol), and I thought, "Really? They're being so flattering to each other!"
Well, Tek. I guarantee that in retribution, someone in the fandom will link EqD to real decal laptops in a week. No doubt.
So stop worrying about it! Real world is not pony world, but we get it both.
@Eaglelander
ReplyDeleteWhat are ya blabbling about? The pony world IS the real world!
Do you think it's MERE COINCIDENCE that the FimFlam brothers appear NOW on THIS episode?! Clearly we are equally parallel universes. And we just bucked the fake HP guy's flank out of Ponyville. Tek is Applejack. Applejack is best Main pony.
@GreatAndMightyChampionNot only that, they specifically chose HP as their #1 Watcher and when Tek thanked them in the comments section, they generously flattered him in kind.
ReplyDeleteSo, laptop and showcasing Tek...it was a setup, probably. The account is down now, but the creator sure put some effort into making their DA account sound believable...
@Eaglelander
ReplyDeleteI thought them being nice was just even more insulting. It was just full of shit and sarcasm.
"I'm very very sorry that I took your precious flaaggg!"
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought when I saw the title. Anyways, it isn't your fault...
Ahhh... Hehe, you know, every fandom has it's bad things, even ours. But, what makes bronies, in my eyes at least, out-stand between the crowd of fandoms out there, is that when a fellow brony is hurt and needs our help and support. We'll always be there to give them a hug and a brohoof.
ReplyDeleteSure you can argue with me and say "It's just cause Tek's an EQD mod boo!" but I've seen this happen in everywhere where ponies are present, with people that nobody knows and probably will ever know.
And every single time I see this happening, it gets to me and makes me think that after all this isn't such a hostile world. That there's people out there that manage to balance the good and the bad thanks to their deeds.
tl;dr You bronies are awesome.
@DeRockProjectIt is true, us fans are the link between that world and the human realm.
ReplyDeleteThough it was bound to happen soon, I guess...someone leaving a news article for us to find and watching our reactions. Lucky it was shut down so quickly before it got more hype and HP or brony reps were ruined
A RED HERRING. Watch out for bricks falling from windows when you walk down the street, and never enter a house through the front door. Over the wall, over the wall. The more you know, Tek.
Don't worry man, I have that flaw too. It's one of the best flaws to have, because it means you will probably live a fulfilling life :)
ReplyDelete@Al_SkylarkWell said.
ReplyDeleteThink of it as a great prank.
(Lol if a brony made the hoax to get closer to Tek)
And we all know how Gilda ended up when she reacted to a prank.
I'm disgusted that it was someone on DeviantArt that did it, I feel almost ashamed to be a part of that community now. BTW the page is still there, but I think they're account has been deactivated.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, we all get caught out from time to time
geez I can't spell today. Their
ReplyDelete@Al_Skylark
ReplyDeleteAgreed. That's one of the reasons I think this is such an amazing community.
Im going to join the others in saying dude don't worry about it I myself have had similar mishaps in the past I just kept going and kept a more cautious eye. While the world might not be as honest as we like there are those of us that are making a difference.
ReplyDeleteShit happens compadre just carry on men its okay
ReplyDeletenot your fault *hugs*
ReplyDeleteThere are many worse flaws to have than trust. And I guarantee you that many others (myself included) fell for it.
ReplyDeleteWe all caught in this flimflam. ;_;
ReplyDeleteThat was THE most elaborate troll I've ever seen. Ever.
ReplyDeleteAnypony could have fallen for it. I certainly would have fallen for it in your place!
Don't worry about it, Tek!
A lot of us were rooting for this to be true. Don't take it to heart. If trust is the worst sin you ever commit, you are doing pretty damn good.
ReplyDeleteThis too shall pass. Lick your wounds, take some time to regroup, then rejoin the good fight.
It's alright Tek. We've been there before, even I have a sneaking suspension thinking this is too good to be true. I forgive you. Let us forgive and forget.
ReplyDeleteHey man I know im late to the party by a rule I live by is trying to cheer people up when there down. It's no big deal, really. I think most of us thought it was real(I know I did). Keep your chin up. :)
ReplyDeleteI still love you Tek. Everyone makes mistakes.
ReplyDeleteDear Tek:
ReplyDeleteYour hope that everyone would be straightforward and honest is a good one to have. Don't lose that. For the most part, it's true.
It's true that you should be more careful in the future, but that's a fine lesson to learn too. Apply sound logic and a careful mind to every situation. Weed out the bad seeds in that way.
But never lose that belief that most people will be honest. That's a good way to be, and a way that not everyone has these days.
Additionally, as for the issue at hand, no harm done at all. You're good, bro.
It's okay. We still love you, Tek.
ReplyDeleteTek, I missed what happened so I will say I'm not entirely sure what was going on, though I gather from your post and from a prior post that there was some sort of hoax about official FIM laptops or something along those lines.
ReplyDeleteWhile I admit that I would have been rather skeptical had I heard of it and in your position I probably wouldn't have brought it up, I don't blame you for doing so. It was a great idea, and if the production values were good enough on the faked images, it would have been rather convincing too.
So no worries, Tek. You owned up to your mistake, and as far as I can see, there wasn't even any real harm done. Plus, you've learned something from this too about being just a LITTLE bit more skeptical, which is a beneficial trait to have. I would actually argue that as a whole, this incident was a net positive.

ReplyDelete>I'll accept the apology if you drop the "I'm too naiive and innocent for this world full of liars" bit.
Excuse me, but where do you get off demanding a better apology? He didn't have to give us one at all. He made a silly, harmless mistake, felt awful about it, and owned up to it very publicly. I know how I'd feel were I in his shoes, and I know your comment wouldn't be helping any.
>your fatal flaw wasn't that you were too trustworthy, it was because you didn't fact check
Which he didn't do because he believed the source was trustworthy. I think you're confusing the what with the why here: what he should have done is check into the legitimacy of his source; his naive trust in them is why it didn't occur to him that any background checking was necessary.
Obviously, it was necessary, and I'd wager he's learned that lesson from this experience. No need for you to rub his face in it. If you must make the point, you could do so without the accusatory tone.
>... you need to learn from your mistakes, and claiming you aren't used to dishonesty is not going to let that happen.
The first step toward correcting any problem is to recognize and acknowledge it.
>heck, it barely counts as taking responsibility as it tries to pass off your part of the responsibility to someone else.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. All Tek did was believe a lie and pass it on; simply admitting to his mistake and apologizing for it is taking all due responsibility for it, in my eyes. He passed nothing to the troll that the troll did not earn.
Hey now, shit happens.
ReplyDeleteI can only hope that the person responsible for the hoax page gets their ass sued off. You don't just go around pretending to be a company.
@countpony: Yeah, he has been ever since he was the first provider of the episodes on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteDon't you fret Tek there's no harm done :) and no need for the apology we all make mistakes.

ReplyDeleteI'm extremely hesitant to wish corporate lawsuit on anybody, even a troll. Granted, I missed the original hoax and don't know much about it, so I don't know what level of vitriol the guy deserves.
Did he actually con anybody into sending him money for the nonexistent product? If so, then yes, may the hounds of Hewlett-Packard devour him alive.
If he's just a garden variety jerkass troll, however, I'd be genuinely concerned if he landed in serious legal hot water over a harmless prank. Meanspirited, yes, but ultimately harmless.
no worrys me and my lady where talking about it and i initially went with it myself and i know people that work for hp and also know they are getting out of the priviate compy business.
