wow, 150 dollar for this thing? That is really cheap! Ok, you don't get much for that price, but the hardware is basically up to date. Don't take the cheapest speccs, change the harddrive to an SSD and you probably got a very fast laptop for 400 bucks.
My likeness for HP has increased, I was never too fond for them but 1. The fact they are getting in touch with their costumers like this is awesome 2. Ponies.
Unless I get a real confirmation that this is a joke or even real, I can just report this account for being an impostor and see how it turns out. -_- I've never seen a company on dA. I don't even know if this is possible with the rules.
Rarity one would be insta-purchase even though I don't really need a laptop at the moment, serviceable spec's too that's not too shabby even if it will end up costing 10x what a home built desktop of better spec would, it's a laptop, expense is part of the experience always has been.
That seems incredibly low and does one of two things:
1) Makes me VERY nervous about the quality of components inside, in particular the i3, RAM and HDD.
2) In actuality, by the time it gets to the UK and you add on appropriate tax and random-charge-for-nothing-tax it works out about £299 which sounds about right for something in that range.
Hate to rain on the parade but HP sucks. It may look nice but they're stuff is crap. Bought an HP laptop, it started failing after 6 months. After a year and a half it was completely useless. Now if Toshiba, Dell, or even Apple started making these then I'd be impressed.
I don't really need any more computers, but I want this so bad. If the price is right I'll probably pick one up. I could use it as a PC for guests or something.
Guys, we should all be trying to help HP improve this laptop so we can tell Hasbro that we Bronies will buy stuff. If we can assist HP enough to know ourselves the exact hardware, we can know exactly what we're buying and maybe even improve it.
It's a chance for us to settle the brony into the entire decade.
Yeah, that's a bit expensive for a laptop with so little functionality. I think I'll just paint my PC cyan and put a Dash sticker on it :P. It's pretty awesome, though, that big companies like HP check out Equestria Daily and actually base products on My Little Pony.
Wow. The idea behind that deviantArt page is pretty cool. But now I'm afraid the reason they could be so nice and helpful to user comments was that they only had 18 or so watchers. Now that, so to speak, "the internet floodgates are open", I hope the amount of comments they could potentially receive doesn't get too overwhelming!
I just realized that Meg Whitmann, president and CEO of HP used to be Hasbro's Playskool Division General Manager. Could this be the reason for this connection?
Okay, can we seriously grow some fucking brains here?
We're not big enough of a fanbase for Shout Factory to make season DVDs for us, but we're big enough that HP is going to make AN ENTIRE LINE OF COMPUTERS FOR US? Really?
Holy cow. If this is real, then for one, we are one step closer to ponifying everything. I feel like this is becoming a realistic goal. The world will be ponies in approximately 6 years, at this rate. Maybe faster, I'm not good at extrapolation on this scale.
And second, I think I want it. I wonder if they'll be releasing other designs. Though, even if they did, I'd probably still be going with the Sparkle.
Jeeze, this whole pony phenomenon is getting out of hand. In the best way possible, of course.
Any mention of getting permission from Hasbro to use their property? I only mention that because awhile back Asus tried rolling out a computer named and advertised after Transformers, and Hasbro sued the ever loving crap out of them.
Even if it is legit, all I see is a company taking advantage of "what's in," and trying to sell loads of sub-par computers.
In light of SOPA/PIPA/ACTA, and all that crap going on now, forgive me if monopolization and capitalistic moves by big companies strike a nerve when they try to take advantage of a fanbase.
This doesn't look very legit, even though it would be AWESOME if it was. (but really, I bought a new laptop last August and I DID choose the purple one because of Twilight Sparkle. So I guess I wouldn't need one of these)
Sorry, I realized as soon as I said that it sounded rude, and it wasn't directed at you Navy Brony, it was a jab at HP. Come on people, it's HP, you can't really expect it to have any sort of quality at all, especially at $150.
well I wouldn't get the laptop. Its perhaps a little over the top given my laptop is primarily a working machine. A pony case mod for my desktop may not be out of the question entirely if done right. The oeripherals might be interesting though. A rainbow Dash mouse would awe aweosme. Especially since my free advent mouse is starting to reach the end of its long life.
For what it's worth, I've been conversing with the executive who runs the account and am confident the whole deal is genuine. *However*, one could always call 650-857-1501 (HP's corporate office) to verify this. I'd call now, but it's Saturday. =\
This is definately fake. There are no links to HP, HP doesn't mention that they have a deviantart, and the many shout-outs to Tek make me think he is just trolling us...
Especially this one
"Hello everyone, this is Hewlett-Packard's President and CEO Margaret "Meg" C. Whitman speaking to you today. I, and some of my other colleagues would like to thank a very special user here on DeviantART, a user that some of us would even consider an inspiration to our company. This user has already sparked pride and inspiration in many of the loyal employees that have observed his comments. That User, "Tekaramity", has definitely proven himself in the eyes of many, myself included, here at the Hewlett-Packard Corporation. I cannot come up with words that will express my true thanks to Tekaramity, so allow me to start off this formal Thank You beginning with myself and then with my many other valued coworkers and friends."
@Hawkeye92 Tha laptop posted on dA is actually nice and could function as a device for work. Something with huge Pinkie Pie would be too much but this was actually nice. IMO Twi's cutie mark is quite stylish.
Quick HP I've been a loyal customer four over eight years. If you read this please design a Shadowbolt laptop or laptop skin. The black sn blue would look better then the current grey
While it would be awesome if this is for real, this is HP we're talking about, and I've had some bad experience with their products. So if this is real, I'll probably look to alternative ways of expressing my bronyism (as if I don't express it enough already)
@PKYeah, PK, after further review, I'm calling shenanigans. There isn't anything professional about a number of things on this DA account, and there is no mention of it being official on either HP's website or Facebook page. Look at some of their previous "concept" ideas on other pages, and the thing reeks of parody.
I'd reclassify the article as "rumor", if not outright "hoax".
I believe it's all true. If this is a troll job, it's rather elaborate, and I admit defeat.
However, I've taken steps to prod the uploader to verify the authenticity of this account. If he can't, he can't. It's definitely not me, though; I have no reason to pull any stunts.
Legit or not, I'd be lying if I said these weren't cool. But, I'll admit, if legit, all I would get is the mouse. My current laptop is my baby, and is still going strong.
Pinkie on my mouse would be downright awesome, though.
Yeah, I've done the same thing, just browsed through some of the journal entries. It's ludicrously elaborate if it's a hoax.
If someone spent a month making fake journal entries about HP-related things to establish sufficient provenance to troll EQD, then fair play, really. Although it's sort of trolling yourself, too.
I just sent a tip to The Verge about this under the guise of how it could explain Hasbro's trademark suit with ASUS over the Transformer Prime. I figure if anyone can definitively verify this, it would be them.
I'm calling this as a troll. They've been on dA for less time than me, they have very few pageviews up until now, and they just happened to "randomly" pick Tekaramity as watcher of the month just before this went up. Considering we can't get DVDs and accurate toys, I doubt they'd make a laptop. And besides, that price point screams troll (That HDD is a $100 component, there's no way they could build this at that price), and a professional render would look much nicer.
and now I wonder just how many will be taking their laptops in to get the customs, humm. I surpose there could be a theame where you have a character on the laptop then the character theam on the desktop its self, changing the way the OS looks and sounds.
Nah, this whole thing is more rotten than the Flim Flam brothers' cider. The very fact that the computer and mouse have appeared ON A WEEKEND, when most corporate decisions would NEVER be made?
Plus, check http://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4m9tzo -- that picture is a repost of a joke picture that's been on the net for some time... this is a pure parody account, not the real HP.
Im out of money, and i don't need a Laptop xD But, it's a king of a good idea, with our fandom growing every day... but not to much not-brony people will buy them, and people like me (Im on Paraguay, LOL) will never even see them in real life xD
DeviantART doesn't seem like a very good idea to make contact with the consumers for a company dealing with computer hardware. Still, looking at their account the person (or team) behind it looks dedicated but I can't find a link on their official site to DA page.
"Hello everybody, and welcome to today's issue of HP's news update. Read on to see what's in today's issue:
- Child Abuse awareness is here early for Hewlett-Packard. We are donating large portions of funds to organizations all over the world to stop Child Abuse. Now, you can help. If you see or sense it, report it IMMEDIATELY to your local law enforcement agency. An innocent life could be lost if you continue to stand by and let it happen. Use these numbers if you see it or suspect it:
• National Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800-4-A-CHILD. Use this number if you suspect a child is being abused. • Local Law Enforcement: Dial 911 if you see child abuse happening in public or right in front of you.
The following organizations are supported by Hewlett-Packard:
• American Human Association • American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children • Annie E. Casey Foundation • National Child Abuse Services and Hotline
Child abuse is wrong and it's against the law. Remember that if you see or sense a child of ANY age getting abused in ANY form, report it IMMEDIATELY to law enforcement. You could save the precious life of a child with just a few taps of your fingers on the dialpad."
Well, in any case, I could always get myself a custom Pony skin for my iPad. And I'm sure it won't be too hard to find a customizable mouse when my current one wears out, and slap Pinkie on there myself.
At the price point in the article, it would have been worth it for a laptop or netbook like that... but hey, at least this was a fun diversion for a while. Wonder what the next hoax to bust will be...
No official Hasbro announcement of this deal, nothing from HP other than this DA page, no mention on any other sites about this at all. It doesn't add up. HP really isn't in any position to have a product like this right now, they aren't exactly doing that well at the moment.
What's wrong with HP? My HP gaming laptop has been top of the line and hasn't broken down once this year. Compared to my previous Dell, which broke down several times within a year.
If this is real, my head will explode. Perhaps even twice.
Really though, this does not look real, but damn it all if it isn't the best fake-company-troll I've ever seen. A tip of the hat to Tek/Tek's friend for being so dedicated.
I really don't have complaints against HP. When my old HP died after a long life, I temporarily replaced it with a HP laptop which my mother now uses, and my sister's HP desktop is still chugging away. The reason I'm not using a HP desktop now is that I built one with twice the power for half the price myself.
I would get one if HP actually made good products. As it stands, you can get a far better laptop for a much lower price without all the crapware on it.
Companies are large as H.P. have several different companies they act through, all with ridiculous names, it could simply be a development wing, companies frequently setup development houses as separate companies so that they can cast off some of the debt if it implodes.
Not to suggest it's legit, just offering a reasonable explanation for using a different company name. I want it to be legit but we'll see. We'll soon find out when they are/are not available in shops :P
Potentially, yes, but as the account is only a month old, specifically calls out certain MLP-community members, and has many other questionable things about it, I still believe it to be fake.
Oh well, the truth will come out eventually, either way. It just bugs me sometimes how things like this, and for example, the extended italian intro, are posted as 'fact' with no caveat that it has not been verified, and are then proven later to be false, after lots of people already believe that they are true. A minimum of fact checking should be considered when posting things like this, but it seems that that hardly ever occurs.
Was wondering when more well known companies would start jumping on the pony bandwagon. Now to wait for verification.
As to those going off on HP, I have never had an issue with their products, and have been satisfied by them. I am not brand particular when it comes to buying most things, it either meets my needs/budget or it doesn't. But thanks to my only experience with Red Lobster, I understand just how important those first experiences are.
Now I wonder just how many different accessories they might do in pony themes, and if it will spill over to PCs as well as laptops. Not to mention how many different character themes might they use.
i mean shit we still can't even get a official video game or a Celestia that's the right color but we're suddenly getting a line of computers? c'mon bronies
Well they are doing a better job than the journalism industry at large that's enough for me considering the work is voluntary.
I have to say though, fake or otherwise an account only being a month old doesn't make much of a difference, companies are VERY slow to act usually, and many are only just moving onto social media networks, look at the last two years and the number of companies who went from not having a facebook or twitter, to having multiple. It's not too hard to believe they finally realized they need to get feedback on a more localized level when dealing with specific communities or franchises etc.
Again, the more I look at it the more fake it looks so I'm not disagreeing. I just think a lot of this stuff isn't all that out of the ordinary for large companies.
Heck I was part of a community questionnaire several years ago that asked questions about comic book content on PSP and other Sony devices, a similar debate took place and noone thought anything more of it.
Would be interested in specing one out and decking one out with ram and all the trimmings, but as for fake, it's impressive if it is.
I could buy that they have a Twilight Skin they could slap on an entry level netbook, but $150, it's own line, and decent specs? I'm calling shenanigans. Seems that the page is written way too casually to be officially attached to HP, and not getting HP Twitter or Facebook to confirm is a little too convenient for lefty having a hard time getting a hold of righty.
That being said, if this is legit, or inspires pony skins for laptops, I'm game.
lol, I should make a fake Glock Ges.m.b.H. account on DeviantArt and claim that custom Applejack Glock 19s are on the way, I'll get a EQD post and everything. "OMFG THEY'RE MAKING LIL MACINTOSH FOR REALS"
If it's real it's aimed at children (parents to buy them) not Bronies. Parents might not buy a DVD boxset for their kids but they might buy a cheap $150 MLP laptop for them.
I found that for the most part when things are suspect they throw up rumor. the thing with the italian intro is understandable as that sort of thing can be fairly hard to verify and fairly easy to fake for an english speaking blog like this. but usually sethisto and cereal is very quick with that rumor tag.
my guess is tek got all excited and didn't clear this with seth.
They talk about Android on their main DA account. HP doesn't like Android, at all; they have their own (failed) OS called WebOS.
All their "news" are copied from other sources with added "Hasbro partnership", but nowhere else on the internet there is even a single line about this.
Yeah, there's an EXTREMELY high chance this entire account is a hoax. A very well-planned hoax, but still a hoax. Like I said before, it'd be awesome if it wasn't, and we could look forward to these in the future.
I just saw on Goldman Sachs official Angelfire page that they're gonna be releasing a line of Rarity-branded mortgage-backed securities, omfg!!!! i so want one!!!
I personally don't care if this Hewlett-Packard DA account is a fake, but the comments from those of you accusing Tek of posting fake news on purpose and being a troll are disgusting. You might want to try actually getting to know Tek as a person before you think about throwing shit at him. It was more than likely an honest mistake.
Alas it is fake, probably photo-shopped or customized. I wonder if there is somepony willing to give me a cover with my cutie mark for the right price...
I don't think you can just say that it's "more than likely" that. I think knows it is fake but isn't trolling, he maybe assumed that everyone would realise it was fake for certain rather than this mixed reaction.
Just in the interest of clarification, the i3 2nd Gen is £90 here in the UK, which I know is certainly not over 200 dollars. Additionally, that would be the retail price not the bulk price and on top of that laptop CPU's are usually the same as the desktop ones in name ONLY and lack a lot of features.
I'm not arguing the validity of the post however, just wanting to clarify that an i3 is certainly not that expensive, and a laptop variant would certainly not cost anything near that (for the company at least).
I agree, you all who are accusing Tek of being a troll are wrong. He wouldn't waste his time making a troll account (which isn't confirmed for being a troll nor confirmed for being real). Anyone can be fooled by things like this, so cut him some slack and stop being whiny little kids. So what if it's fake? I thought adults would be more mature than this.
Oh wait, I forgot. It's the internet, where people prey upon those who mess up without even thinking that they could easily fall for the same trick. I mean think about it. Pony laptops would be really neat. Ponies have been invading other products lately, so why does a computer suddenly seem suspicious?
@Senn555 I don't think most of us are seriously accusing him of trolling, and I'm sure he meant well, but a shady source and a severe lack of a rumor tag were some big slip ups. Happens to everypony. Jokes are made, realizations happen, then everypony moves on.
I've never really met Tek before but everyone tells me he's a nice guy. I useally take first impressions seriously and he has never come across me as one who would troll. We make mistakes sometimes, we get over them yet people still gut you for it
I'm well aware of that award. That proves nothing. And I stand by my statement that Tek would never waste his time to be a troll. Heck, he wouldn't even make up an award for himself! He's way too humble to do such a thing.
No, Tek wouldn't troll. But yeah, so do I (I fell for it too...). It doesn't feel good to fall for something like this...especially when it gets publicized. v.v
yay and on an unrelated note, seth is a unicorn with a reddish mane and yellowish coat, tek has dark brown mane and brown coat, xyro is a pegasus iwth orange coat and red/brown mane,pk is a unicorn with dark blue coat and dark/light blue mane, phoe is a pegasus with white coat and pinkish hair, cereal is unicorn with a grey coat and blue mne and I still don't know what calpain looks like.
Sorry to correct you there, but as Tek Pony's designer you missed a few things about him. He also wears a green fedora and a dark red coat, with three chin hairs. Not to mention has gray eyes.
He isn't simply a brown pony with dark brown hair haha.

Oh god I would buy one of those!
ReplyDeleteConfound my new MacBook!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks poorly photoshopped.
ReplyDeleteDamn, if I'm not tempted to buy one for my niece, who has yet to be born.
ReplyDeleteHi HP. While your here, lurking, could you help me with my Laptop, it won't detect my HD tv in the HDMI port.
ReplyDelete@DJ-Pinkamina
ReplyDeleteThis could work.
If it wasn't hp I would buy that the day it's available.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? This is awesome. HP you're a undetermined percentage cooler.
ReplyDeleteDEAR LUNA I NEED THAT.
ReplyDeleteI would buy one. =) Particularly one of Pinkie Pie! I can't wait for the designs to come out! HP rocks! =D
ReplyDeleteHmm was thinking of buying a new laptop... This might happen.
ReplyDeleteAre there any confirmations from the company for this?
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a huge joke.
Do want.
ReplyDeleteHP exec confirmed for brony?
ReplyDelete@TommoPuppy
ReplyDeleteNot saying it's real, but the post does mention it's a render, not a photo

ReplyDeleteThat is all
hmmm. I would get one. But its HP so.... No. Looks nice though.
ReplyDeleteIf this is real HP just got 20% cooler!!
ReplyDeleteAlso dat label, Tek Posting For Once
ReplyDeleteDuh, I'm not good with jokes like this sometimes.
ReplyDeleteUnless I get a real confirmation that this is a joke or even real, I can just report this account for being an impostor and see how it turns out. -_-
I've never seen a company on dA. I don't even know if this is possible with the rules.
This is amazing. AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if anypony's going to be doing FIM-themed covers for MacBook/MacBook Pros?
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good laptop for $150!
ReplyDeleteALL MY MONEY. TAKE IT. HAVE IT. OH GOD.
ReplyDeleteRarity one would be insta-purchase even though I don't really need a laptop at the moment, serviceable spec's too that's not too shabby even if it will end up costing 10x what a home built desktop of better spec would, it's a laptop, expense is part of the experience always has been.
God...fuuu... exploding... WANT.
Maybe it was the coffee...
I would want a Rainbow Dash themed one
ReplyDeleteI'll get Applejack's theme!!!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteIt's an HP, so no.
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest surprise here is that HP has a deviantart account.
ReplyDeleteI mean what the hell is next? Xerox? But they're awesome for making this :D
Woah I did NOT see the base price suggestion...
ReplyDeleteThat seems incredibly low and does one of two things:
1) Makes me VERY nervous about the quality of components inside, in particular the i3, RAM and HDD.

ReplyDeleteToo bad Apple never does 3rd Party things.
ReplyDeleteI already have an HP, so is there any chance I could just get a cover like this? Because I would buy one in about 5 seconds!
ReplyDeleteHere's the HP Applebloom laptop.
ReplyDeleteWow, If I weren't a brony I would have no idea this is related to MLP, or even thinking this is a girly laptop.
ReplyDeleteMust Get!
If there is a Rainbow Dash one then all of my money.
ReplyDeleteAlso, these need to be released in the UK too. I mean I could import but customs fees... :(
Hmmm... A Mac themed mac.... Somehow I've heard this one before....
ReplyDeleteLet me make this analogy.
ReplyDeleteHP : Flim Flam Brothers :: Every other computer producing company : Apple Family.
Totally want one of these - Twilight Sparkle + Computers = pure awesomeness!
ReplyDeleteOkay, guys I don't think this is legit. There is no mention of a deviantart page on the HP website.
ReplyDeleteI don't buy a computer because it's got a pretty picture on it. I buy it because it fits my needs, then I go on Etsy and get a decal or make my own.
ReplyDeleteGuys, we should all be trying to help HP improve this laptop so we can tell Hasbro that we Bronies will buy stuff. If we can assist HP enough to know ourselves the exact hardware, we can know exactly what we're buying and maybe even improve it.

Now there's a mouse too, they just submitted the picture! :D

ReplyDeleteToo bad it's HP
ReplyDeleteOnly 150 bucks? HP laptop = Flim Flam Cider?

Now that, so to speak, "the internet floodgates are open", I hope the amount of comments they could potentially receive doesn't get too overwhelming!
ReplyDeleteFiM laptops would be very awesome, but it's too bad I had some really bad experiences in the past with HP. Were it ASUS, I'd instabuy it.
ReplyDeleteThey need to SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
ReplyDeleteSite might be fake, wish we could get some official confirmation from HP.
ReplyDeleteI just realized that Meg Whitmann, president and CEO of HP used to be Hasbro's Playskool Division General Manager. Could this be the reason for this connection?
ReplyDeleteI'd buy it it looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteOh god. I don't own a PC, but had been thinking of buying a cheapie one that I could play old, low-spec games on.
ReplyDeleteSo this is in some ways relevant to my interests.
That mouse is pretty awesome, though. I'd buy that :P.
ReplyDeletetrolled :(
ReplyDeleteThis is obviously fake. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a harmless joke though.
ReplyDeleteOkay, can we seriously grow some fucking brains here?
ReplyDeleteWe're not big enough of a fanbase for Shout Factory to make season DVDs for us, but we're big enough that HP is going to make AN ENTIRE LINE OF COMPUTERS FOR US? Really?
Either this really is a HP deviantart or a insanely dedicated troll.
ReplyDeleteI'M THROWING MY MONEY AT THE SCREEN, BUT NOTHING IS HAPPENING!
ReplyDeleteSeems pretty nifty, and since I'm looking for a laptop anyway...
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, though, I was kind of hoping for better specs. XP A shame.

ReplyDeleteSomeone is getting trolled here. Trolled hard. That dA account is one month old. It's a total bullshit.
ReplyDeleteAmusing and somewhat awesome if true, I could ask my contacts to confirm.

ReplyDeleteCan a troll be THIS elaborate? I don't know what to think.

ReplyDeleteThe black sn blue would look better then the current grey
If this were legit...would be sweet.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, does HP even do themed laptops of copyrighted stuff?
@naahdude
ReplyDeleteUgh I can't edit this comment. Sorry for the over the top rage
While it would be awesome if this is for real, this is HP we're talking about, and I've had some bad experience with their products. So if this is real, I'll probably look to alternative ways of expressing my bronyism (as if I don't express it enough already)
ReplyDelete@PKYeah, PK, after further review, I'm calling shenanigans. There isn't anything professional about a number of things on this DA account, and there is no mention of it being official on either HP's website or Facebook page. Look at some of their previous "concept" ideas on other pages, and the thing reeks of parody.
ReplyDeleteI'd reclassify the article as "rumor", if not outright "hoax".
I believe it's all true. If this is a troll job, it's rather elaborate, and I admit defeat.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I've taken steps to prod the uploader to verify the authenticity of this account. If he can't, he can't. It's definitely not me, though; I have no reason to pull any stunts.
Too lazy to post link to "it's a fake!" Romulan.
ReplyDeleteLegit or not, I'd be lying if I said these weren't cool. But, I'll admit, if legit, all I would get is the mouse. My current laptop is my baby, and is still going strong.
ReplyDeletePinkie on my mouse would be downright awesome, though.
@Tekaramity
ReplyDeletehttp://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/#/d4niwz1
"so knowledgeable, so kind, and so cool"
Tekaramity, "Foal of the Month" ribbon goes to you!
"Fanfiction" tag and let's pretend it never happened.
Did anyone not saw this in their account?
ReplyDeletehttp://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/#/d4niwz1
@MrSirPGW
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've done the same thing, just browsed through some of the journal entries.
ReplyDelete@Tin Can
ReplyDeleteJudging from...FIM, the laptop will be a stripped down, barebones netbook at best.
ReplyDeleteIf it's legit, this is awesome.
ReplyDeleteIf its a troll, its one of the most elaborate Ive seen in a while, and therefore equally awesome.
After rethinking it... Yeah, probably fake.
ReplyDeleteNo harm done if it's fake, I had fun.
ReplyDeleteNow if they start taking actual orders for the laptops then it becomes serious.
Still holding out hope this is real.
and now I wonder just how many will be taking their laptops in to get the customs, humm. I surpose there could be a theame where you have a character on the laptop then the character theam on the desktop its self, changing the way the OS looks and sounds.
ReplyDeleteNah, this whole thing is more rotten than the Flim Flam brothers' cider. The very fact that the computer and mouse have appeared ON A WEEKEND, when most corporate decisions would NEVER be made?
ReplyDeletePlus, check http://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4m9tzo -- that picture is a repost of a joke picture that's been on the net for some time... this is a pure parody account, not the real HP.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThis has to be fake. A part of me really doesn't want it to be, but it really does have to be fact. There's no way that this could be happening.
ReplyDeleteIm out of money, and i don't need a Laptop xD
ReplyDeleteBut, it's a king of a good idea, with our fandom growing every day... but not to much not-brony people will buy them, and people like me (Im on Paraguay, LOL) will never even see them in real life xD
Pinkiǝ piǝ on my mousǝ might makǝ masturbation all thǝ morǝ awkward. :\
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what to think of this...
ReplyDeleteDeviantART doesn't seem like a very good idea to make contact with the consumers for a company dealing with computer hardware. Still, looking at their account the person (or team) behind it looks dedicated but I can't find a link on their official site to DA page.
Wait, what?
ReplyDelete...
Awesome.
@Tekaramity
ReplyDeleteYou went to all the effort of making a fake HP account on DA just to troll EQD?
Uh...10/10? Though the material is...not troll-ish enough.
Katy Perry in their scraps? That's enough proof it's fake. http://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=scraps
ReplyDeleteI am very skeptical about that dA account being real. Pretty elaborate troll if not, though!
ReplyDeleteThey need to make shells for the Pavillion.
ReplyDeleteMore business need to do stuff like this.
If its not supposed to be a joke then its fake. This can't be real.
ReplyDeleteSorry :(
@eaglehooves
ReplyDelete@Earwig
@Nostalgia Schmaltz
Quit it.
Just at random:
ReplyDelete"Hello everybody, and welcome to today's issue of HP's news update.
• American Human Association
• American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children
• Annie E. Casey Foundation
• National Child Abuse Services and Hotline
Child abuse is wrong and it's against the law. Remember that if you see or sense a child of ANY age getting abused in ANY form, report it IMMEDIATELY to law enforcement. You could save the precious life of a child with just a few taps of your fingers on the dialpad."
This is all incredibly surreal.
Well, in any case, I could always get myself a custom Pony skin for my iPad. And I'm sure it won't be too hard to find a customizable mouse when my current one wears out, and slap Pinkie on there myself.
ReplyDeleteAt the price point in the article, it would have been worth it for a laptop or netbook like that... but hey, at least this was a fun diversion for a while. Wonder what the next hoax to bust will be...
KATY PERRY IN SCRAPS!!!
ReplyDeleteNo official Hasbro announcement of this deal, nothing from HP other than this DA page, no mention on any other sites about this at all. It doesn't add up. HP really isn't in any position to have a product like this right now, they aren't exactly doing that well at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI give this a 5% chance of being legit.
Hell fucking yes! hp have all of my love!
ReplyDeleteI know I've said this twice but just look in here: http://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=scraps
ReplyDeleteEven if it were real, this still wouldn't happen, since HP manufactures crap that teenagers would be stupid enough to convince their parents to buy.
ReplyDeleteI guess that's the price you pay when you want to be first at everything.
What's wrong with HP? My HP gaming laptop has been top of the line and hasn't broken down once this year. Compared to my previous Dell, which broke down several times within a year.
ReplyDelete@Wisami
ReplyDeletePresumably she's on scraps because she recently played at the HP Pavilon.
If this is real, my head will explode. Perhaps even twice.
ReplyDeleteReally though, this does not look real, but damn it all if it isn't the best fake-company-troll I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteOh god I want one I love my hp laptop
ReplyDeleteCome on guys! This isn't Tek trolling! Why would he?
ReplyDeleteAlso Katy Perry in scraps? What does that prove? I'm not saying I'm convinced this is legit, but seriously...
@Filiecs
ReplyDeleteI am also unsure of where the hate for HP is coming from.
@milleniummaster18
"HP manufactures crap"
Well, that's odd. My clearly-not-a-piece-of-crap seems to be doing fine.
Somepony doesn't realize that April Fools day is in... Well, April. Save the amusing gags for days that give you an excuse to do them. xD
ReplyDeleteOh god I want one I love my hp laptop
ReplyDeleteSo, we get designer laptops, but no one has yet produced what I've been wanting since 2010; A good MLP:FiM laptop sleeve for my current laptop.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me a sad pony.
Fake.
ReplyDeleteHP's full name is:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Check their website, HP.com, if you don't believe me.
That DA Page has it as:
Hewlett-Packard Development Group L.P.
Which is not correct. I think a real HP account would know their own full company name.
I would get one if HP actually made good products. As it stands, you can get a far better laptop for a much lower price without all the crapware on it.
ReplyDelete@Navy Brony You could be right, buddy, you could be right...
ReplyDeleteStill, this seems interesting.
@browncoatbrony Dear browncoatbrony, I don't answer wishes often, so save your money.
ReplyDelete@Dic
ReplyDeleteCompanies are large as H.P. have several different companies they act through, all with ridiculous names, it could simply be a development wing, companies frequently setup development houses as separate companies so that they can cast off some of the debt if it implodes.
Not to suggest it's legit, just offering a reasonable explanation for using a different company name. I want it to be legit but we'll see. We'll soon find out when they are/are not available in shops :P
Awesome. But i'm afraid not even ponies can surpass the amount of fail hp computer emit.
ReplyDeleteDear HP,
ReplyDeleteDerpy Powered Ultimate Gaming Laptop: please make it happen. If you did I would love you ForEeeeveeeer!
Upon further examination of all the evidence for/against this being real...
ReplyDeleteWhat is this I don't even.
@Tekaramity Troll alert! lolz excellent job though. It's not even April yet...
ReplyDeleteObvious fake. lol @ HP having a deviantart. Plz don't feed the trolls.
ReplyDeleteI've pulled some very elaborate trolls. This is one of the better ones, if it is, but don't be mistaken, trolls can get very, very elaborate!
ReplyDelete@The_A_Drain
ReplyDeletePotentially, yes, but as the account is only a month old, specifically calls out certain MLP-community members, and has many other questionable things about it, I still believe it to be fake.
Moral of the story, there really is such a thing as /too much/ free time. >>
ReplyDeleteI like hp
ReplyDeleteIf they come out with a nice Rarity one, I might just need to get an HP...
ReplyDeleteWas wondering when more well known companies would start jumping on the pony bandwagon. Now to wait for verification.
ReplyDeleteAs to those going off on HP, I have never had an issue with their products, and have been satisfied by them.
ReplyDeleteYeeaaaaa..no. :S
ReplyDeleteIt will be coming Soon™.
@Dic
ReplyDeleteWell they are doing a better job than the journalism industry at large that's enough for me considering the work is voluntary.
About a year later, comics for psp.
Would be interested in specing one out and decking one out with ram and all the trimmings, but as for fake, it's impressive if it is.
ReplyDeleteI could buy that they have a Twilight Skin they could slap on an entry level netbook, but $150, it's own line, and decent specs?
ReplyDeleteIf it's real it's aimed at children (parents to buy them) not Bronies. Parents might not buy a DVD boxset for their kids but they might buy a cheap $150 MLP laptop for them.
ReplyDeleteANYONE in this thread even giving it chance of being real is crazy. Even the "wait and see" people.
ReplyDelete"My Little HP's are 120% portable"
ReplyDeleteI SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE...
@Dic
ReplyDeleteI found that for the most part when things are suspect they throw up rumor. the thing with the italian intro is understandable as that sort of thing can be fairly hard to verify and fairly easy to fake for an english speaking blog like this. but usually sethisto and cereal is very quick with that rumor tag.
my guess is tek got all excited and didn't clear this with seth.
HEY GUYS I JUST SAW ON GENERAL MOTORS OFFICIAL MYSPACE PAGE THAT THEY'RE COMING OUT W/ A LINE OF RAINBOW DASH CARS OMFG!
ReplyDeleteThey talk about Android on their main DA account. HP doesn't like Android, at all; they have their own (failed) OS called WebOS.
ReplyDeleteAll their "news" are copied from other sources with added "Hasbro partnership", but nowhere else on the internet there is even a single line about this.
This is obviously fake. But very thought out.
@Adrian Brony
ReplyDelete>my guess is tek got all excited and didn't clear this with seth.
Bingo. And now, Seth shall beat him.
Yeah, there's an EXTREMELY high chance this entire account is a hoax. A very well-planned hoax, but still a hoax. Like I said before, it'd be awesome if it wasn't, and we could look forward to these in the future.
ReplyDeleteBut... Eh. Something seems very off.
Also, when has a title of a laptop ever been final, ever?
ReplyDeletePlanning on buying one, feels dumb not to now when I'm looking around for a laptop =P
ReplyDeleteAnd PR or it didn't happen.
ReplyDeleteTekaramity > Trollestia
ReplyDeletewhat a troll
http://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/art/Congratulations-Tekaramity-281378413?q=gallery%3Ahewlettpackard&qo=3
Or Tek is the most deadpan newsposter ever. If so I applaud him.
ReplyDeleteTime to get a new mouse
ReplyDeleteI just saw on Goldman Sachs official Angelfire page that they're gonna be releasing a line of Rarity-branded mortgage-backed securities, omfg!!!! i so want one!!!
ReplyDelete@Xkhaoz
ReplyDeleteThat thing is a hideous photoshop abortion. You deserve better.
ReplyDeleteinb4 "Tek gets sent to the moon" update.
ReplyDeleteAlas it is fake, probably photo-shopped or customized. I wonder if there is somepony willing to give me a cover with my cutie mark for the right price...
ReplyDeletehttp://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/art/Congratulations-Tekaramity-281378413?q=gallery%3Ahewlettpackard&qo=3
ReplyDeletedid you see this?
@Senn555
ReplyDeleteI don't think you can just say that it's "more than likely" that. I think knows it is fake but isn't trolling, he maybe assumed that everyone would realise it was fake for certain rather than this mixed reaction.
@Senn555
ReplyDeleteIt is trolling. It says the laptop will cost $150...The i3 processor by itself is $225 MSRP.
Successful troll is successful.
So, is this the time when Seth removes Tekaramity from the administrators or is this when the troll himself bans me for saying it will happen...
ReplyDeleteShame HP laptops suck ass.
ReplyDelete@Senn555
ReplyDeletehttp://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/art/Congratulations-Tekaramity-281378413?q=gallery%3Ahewlettpackard&qo=3
again...
(ok, i'll stop spamming)
Tek doesn't troll us. He even said that.
ReplyDeleteIt's more like he fell to a troll.
Senator Vreenak reacts to this news.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qKcJF4fOPs
@Nostalgia Schmaltz
ReplyDeleteJust in the interest of clarification, the i3 2nd Gen is £90 here in the UK, which I know is certainly not over 200 dollars.
@Senn555
ReplyDeleteThank you Senn.
Well, I don't know about their laptops, but I have an HP monitor and it's worked like a charm for 3+ years.
ReplyDelete@Senn555 I don't think most of us are seriously accusing him of trolling, and I'm sure he meant well, but a shady source and a severe lack of a rumor tag were some big slip ups. Happens to everypony. Jokes are made, realizations happen, then everypony moves on.
ReplyDeleteit's going to be a PC or Linux box isn't it.
ReplyDeleteDAMN
Well, I WAS going to put cutie mark stickers on my laptop... But this is much handier! :3
ReplyDelete@TickleMeFrosty
ReplyDeletehttp://hewlettpackard.deviantart.com/art/Congratulations-Tekaramity-281378413?q=gallery%3Ahewlettpackard&qo=3
how many times do i have to repeat this (btw i've always enjoyed trolling, even if that means they're trolling ME)
It's fake. They're trolling.
ReplyDeleteFFS, take down the links and stop rewarding them with attention.
I've never really met Tek before but everyone tells me he's a nice guy.
ReplyDeleteI useally take first impressions seriously and he has never come across me as one who would troll.
We make mistakes sometimes, we get over them yet people still gut you for it
This is Tek's biggest slipup since publishing that newspaper with "Dewey beats Celestia" as the headline.
ReplyDeleteJust joking Tek, even if it is fake I had fun with it. Glad you posted it either way.
@T-God
ReplyDeleteI'm well aware of that award. That proves nothing. And I stand by my statement that Tek would never waste his time to be a troll. Heck, he wouldn't even make up an award for himself! He's way too humble to do such a thing.
Aye it does appear to be a troll as everyone has stated, though I don't think that Tek did it on purpose but still the designs are cool.
ReplyDeleteNot really feeling this joke, feels like trolling.
ReplyDelete@Ten *posted it on purpose
ReplyDeleteI kind of feel sorry for Tek, he got trolled hard.
ReplyDeleteIf it turns out he was the one to do the trolling (which I very much doubt), then that was a well played troll.
lol he or she asks for design feedback, but receives spam
ReplyDelete@mattwhite924
ReplyDeleteNo, Tek wouldn't troll. But yeah, so do I (I fell for it too...). It doesn't feel good to fall for something like this...especially when it gets publicized. v.v
What a coincidence, I was just thinking of getting a laptop. Might wait till I can buy one of these.
ReplyDeleteyay
ReplyDeleteand on an unrelated note, seth is a unicorn with a reddish mane and yellowish coat, tek has dark brown mane and brown coat, xyro is a pegasus iwth orange coat and red/brown mane,pk is a unicorn with dark blue coat and dark/light blue mane, phoe is a pegasus with white coat and pinkish hair, cereal is unicorn with a grey coat and blue mne and I still don't know what calpain looks like.
@PurpleSnowPlow
ReplyDeleteSorry to correct you there, but as Tek Pony's designer you missed a few things about him. He also wears a green fedora and a dark red coat, with three chin hairs. Not to mention has gray eyes.
He isn't simply a brown pony with dark brown hair haha.
@Nostalgia Schmaltz Intel sells them for about $100 on their website =P
ReplyDelete
