While I am a little bit surprised about 'canon shipping', it isn't like we haven't gone down this road before, what with Rarity pining after her prince on 'The Best Night Ever'. And I'm pretty sure, even with the CMC involved, that this one will end on a better note than Rarity's night did, although I fear that Ye Olde Status Quo will make sure that by the end of the 22 minutes everything will be back to the way it was. Then again, I was completely blown away by Spike admitting his crush, and Rarity apparently being okay with it. This show HAS shown the ability to give status quo the finger when it needs to. So, who knows?

This will surely be delightful. While the CMC no doubt will make a hash of things, this establishes firmly romantic relations between ponies, which makes this picture seem a little dated ;)

ReplyDeleteThis sounds entertaining, although it means yet another episode with limited time for any of the mane six. This has surely been the season of the Apple family.
ReplyDeleteI like the pairing, myself, as it allows for a little romance on the show proper without making any of the mane characters revolve around finding a guy. (Not that I think the mere inclusion of a romantic interest would negate everything else about these well-drawn characters, but I'm sure many would complain as the lack of any real focus on boys is a refreshing change for female TV characters.)
For all of those FlutterMac supporters, I have to ask... Have the two ever been on screen at the same time? I guess maybe technically they were part of the same scene in Lesson Zero.
I'm stunned by the favorable fan reaction to this episode. Pleased, though. Hurray for Love and Tolerance! Also, y'all really don't want to know what music I've been listening to since I read the episode synopsis.
ReplyDeleteI really do want the Cutie Mark Crusaders to start getting cutie marks at some point. (Applebloom has got to end up with a hammer on her flank at some point!) What if the CMC set out to do something, succeed, and it turns out that they really did find somepony's special talent? If one of them were a latent matchmaker, I'd expect it to be Sweetie Belle.
There's still lots of room for drama and comedy though. Compare: What Applebloom accomplished for the clubhouse working on her own, versus what happened when the three of them tried to work together on a table for Fluttershy. One of them could be a good matchmaker, and yet it still could turn out that 'too many cooks spoil the broth' with the plan almost failing to turn out because Applebloom and Scootaloo haven't got a romantic bone in their bodies.

ReplyDeleteA couple of 'status quo' breakers I can think of off the top of my head:
In 'Dragonshy', Fluttershy is to afraid to make a jump across a chasm that she could walk across. In 'Feeling Pinkie Keen', she is brave enough to make even larger leaps (and even references the Dragonshy part too).
In all of season one, it is Twilight who is writing the Friendship reports. In season two, after 'Lesson Zero', the duty gets spread around to others.
And while not exactly status quo, there have also been lots of other things that were brought up once, and looked to be a one time only thing, only to be brought back much later on (Princess Luna, Pinkie Pie's Pinkie Sense).
Honestly, I think that is one of the things that makes this show so great. Sure, after just a few minutes we usually have a very good idea of where things are heading and how they are going to end up, but the writers always seem to find something new to throw our way to shake tings up and keep us on our toes. So, who knows? We very well may see a CMC get their cutie mark a month from now.

I kind of was keeping my fingers crossed that no canon pairings would form. Mainly because it makes fanon writers happy and the show has done so well without pairing anyone... but we'll see where it goes. I love Cheerilee and I love Big Macintosh, so I might really love them together. I certainly like it more than him and Twilight, though not sure if I like it more than FlutterMac or CaraMac. Either way, I'm not sure how it will work out, I mean this is the CMC trying to get a match making cutiemark... doubt it. But if the episode ends with a reveal that he has the hots for one of the mane 6, I'll be kind of annoyed.

ReplyDelete@The Grey Potter I can't actually picture them doing a mane 6 pairing in canon since in shows when you do that you have to keep up with the couple to show that they're together. This is a show about friendship and all, so any of the mane 6 having a boyfriend would be hard to keep up with. But watch me get it wrong and Big Macintosh turns out to have a crush on Twilight and the CMC only /think/ his crush is on Cheerilee. I really hope not (sorry TwiMac shippers) but it seems possible.

...this actually makes loads of sense. We keep forgetting it's a show for childrens. "Dealing with new baby on the way" is a classic aesop for this demo, and they can't go doing that with a mane pony.
Alls I'm saying is look for a very special Auntie Apple Bloom episode if this ship actually sails.
