That first one is hilarious, but as just about the first comic I've seen involving the colt tentatively known as Chowder, I fear this comic is going to shape his characterization in the brony community... FOREVER.
Appletiara? Blewww, but actually works perfectly if anybody's watched Hey Arnold. Actually come to think about it, I noticed that back in the Mysterious Mare Do Well episode, Applejack names both her hind legs much the way Helga(was that her name?) named both of her fists. Maybe I was the only one who caught that, and honestly, I hardly watched any Hey Arnold. Hmm, maybe it was a Recess reference instead?
I may have been a little too young to enjoy Hey Arnold or Nictoons other good 'ol shows, but I still got the reference before reading Seth's caption, and for that, I am proud.
I have heard of such shows and at times have seen it fit to watch them out of curiosity. This show I have not, somepony fill me in on the details please...it has been 1000 years after all...
I wonder if Seth has read the article on encyclopedia about him? And I loved the comics, the first one reminds me of a similar one with Trixie and Twilight. Good day to you all.
@ombutescentdin Should I rather deny my big sister sent me away for 1000 years because I got jealous and exploded in rage? It was bad for both of us and our reputations.
With pleasure Princess. Arnold, played here by Apple Bloom, is the main character and is constantly bullied by a girl named Helga, played here by Daimond Tiara, even though Helga has a secret crush on Arnold.
@luna it was a show about some school aged "humans", centering on one which had a head resembling a ball or something. And this helga girl hated him, but at the same time secretly loved him
@hoverhoof Thank you too, blunter way of putting it, and I know what humans are, I've talked to them. Surprisingly the ponies in most of their dimensions are more like the mythical horses, and they aren't sentient.
Also, the gray colt is playing a character named Brainy from Hey Arnold. Brainy would always appear, breathing heavily, behind Helga after she finished a romantic monologue about Arnold and she would usually punch him in the face. Brainy seemed to have a crush on Helga, even though his feelings were never reciprocated.
Uhhh that Hey Arthur one was a tad strange, don't get me wrong i've watched "Hey Arthur!" before and I totally understand the joke, but I don't feel comfortable with her being like that hah...
<TwilightSparkle_mode> pm, when referring to time, is an abbreviation of the Latin phrase "Post meridiem", meaning "after midday" or "after noon". (And in this case, unlike in the Nightly Roundups, Latin means the ancient language of the Roman Empire.) </TwilightSparkle_mode>
Aside from that, I'm not seeing "PM" anywhere, so I can't speculate.
Yes, the joke in the first one was done a few months ago with Trixie and Twilight, but it's still amusing.
The second one, even with Derpy's missing wings, has good art and dialogue, leading up to a really low-key punchline; I like it.
1. Hah, it's been ages since I've seen Hey Arnold. If anyone thinks this is naughty or out of character or something like that, please go do a bit of research on Hey Arnold, specifically the title character of Arnold and the character of Helga.
2. How far do you think we can push it? We'll probably push it sideways until our lungs explode.
I burst out laughing from reading the first comic. It was just... perfect. Especially that last part. Hit the whole typical Helga-watching-Arnold-from-afar scene right on.
@Dachimotsu Thanks, but that just confirms that the official spelling is "Apple Bloom", not why. I suspect (given how often it's used) most people prefer "Applebloom", and it would also seem to be easier to trademark/copyright/whatever Hasbro does with these names.
Given that the official spelling was used in the comic itself, I'm guessing the artist went with "Applebloom" in the title to make it more similar to "Hey Arnold!"; a nice touch.
Haha, what was with that weird kid with the glasses, who always showed up when Helga was talking about her love for Arnold. Also, remember the Arnold shrine Helga had in her closet?

ReplyDelete#2 Um...should I be worried?
A Hey Arnold parody, yes please! In the show they seemed to be trying to crowbar that gray colt into as many scenes as possible. I wonder why...

ReplyDeleteGeeze, hey Arnold... That certainly brings back memories. Albeit few.
I may have been a little too young to enjoy Hey Arnold or Nictoons other good 'ol shows, but I still got the reference before reading Seth's caption, and for that, I am proud.

ReplyDeleteYou toss around a 1000 years so casually? Eh, Princess?
@ombutescentdin Should I rather deny my big sister sent me away for 1000 years because I got jealous and exploded in rage? It was bad for both of us and our reputations.

#1 I miss Hey Arnolnd, it was good
ReplyDelete#2 It's funny cause I get it, even though I don't watch it
@luna it was a show about some school aged "humans", centering on one which had a head resembling a ball or something.
ReplyDeleteAnd this helga girl hated him, but at the same time secretly loved him
Come on... hey Arnold sucked ass...
ReplyDelete@MyBoyJ That clears it up, thank you.
ReplyDelete@hoverhoof Thank you too, blunter way of putting it, and I know what humans are, I've talked to them. Surprisingly the ponies in most of their dimensions are more like the mythical horses, and they aren't sentient.
Oh that Hey Arnold reference reminds of the one with Trixie punching Snails from a few weeks back...
ReplyDelete@MyBoyJ
ReplyDelete"Diamond" not "Daimond".

pffft, Hey Arnold joke is always good.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know my guards were on here!

@jodyjm13 I should know that, I practically kept the language alive in Equestria for the most part.
ReplyDeleteAt first I was like, "What is with this random Diamond Tiara being mean nonsense? D:"
ReplyDeleteThen I was like, "HEY ARNOLD! REFERENCE! :D"
And my inner child squealed in joy.
The first comic is offensive. Naughty dialog. I had hoped EQD was better than this.
ReplyDelete#1 Ah, the good old days.
ReplyDelete#2 Where's Derpy's wings? D:

1#- LOL! Nice, I love the Guy's (Chowder) expression and the Shipping, WE MUST SPREAD THIS!
ReplyDelete2#- Eh, I really like the art though, Nicely done, I love Docter Whooves expressions too. ;)
Better comics, nice.
Omg, Hey Arnold reference.
ReplyDeleteI loved Hey Arnold! Nostalgia'd hard with that first comic.
ReplyDelete1. Hey Arnold reference. I like it. Diamond Tiara saying all those things about Applebloom.
ReplyDelete2. Doctor just give her a muffin.
Anyone else notice the lightning-bolt on her forehead in the last two panels? DIAMOND TIARA IS HARRY POTTER!!!
ReplyDeletelol, love #1 for the sheer nostalgia it brought back.
ReplyDeleteNot sure whats really going on in #2...but Derpy forgot to bring her wings
Seth... You mispelled Apple Bloom again...
ReplyDelete"my fillyhood tremble"
ReplyDelete*headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk*
Yes. I realize that I've got a dirty mind.
@PikalaxALT She probably stole the fat foals glasses after beating him up, too... o_o
ReplyDelete#1 Haha. Yay, Hey Arnold! The putting socks on eachother part made me giggle as did the inevitable end. ;)
ReplyDelete#2 Dat joke. Jeez. :P Dr Whoof was actually more silly than Derpy here. lol
@Dachimotsu
ReplyDeleteSethisto was just repeating the way the comic's artist spelled "Applebloom". And why is the official spelling "Apple Bloom" anyway?
If I ever hear another word about Diamond Tiara's "trembling fillyhood"...
ReplyDeleteI have no brain bleach... Bourbon will suffice.
I didn't think anyone even remembered Hey, Arnold! anymore.
ReplyDelete@jodyjm13 You should probably check the show's credits.
ReplyDeleteGeez, I just looked it up to see; turns out Hey Arnold is over 15 years old. The fact that I got that joke amazes me.
ReplyDeleteEither way, good comics all around.
When cartoons were good? They stopped?
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thanks EqD, and thanks to you guys for the great comments! :D
ReplyDeleteHey Arnold, oh my nostalgia (:
ReplyDeleteI would have laughed more at the first comic if it hadn't already been done with Twilight, Trixie, and Snails.
ReplyDeleteI burst out laughing from reading the first comic. It was just... perfect. Especially that last part. Hit the whole typical Helga-watching-Arnold-from-afar scene right on.
ReplyDeleteAhhh Hey Arnold, now that bring back memories. Brilliant comic.
ReplyDelete#2 hahaha get pushing Derpy!
There was something about the first one that I loved so much I almost died, and it wasn't the reference.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that Hey Arnold comic is *the best possible thing*
ReplyDelete@Dachimotsu
ReplyDeleteThanks, but that just confirms that the official spelling is "Apple Bloom", not why. I suspect (given how often it's used) most people prefer "Applebloom", and it would also seem to be easier to trademark/copyright/whatever Hasbro does with these names.

Thanks to Nostalgia Critic, all I see when I think of Helga is Gollum. Now, I will think of Gollum whenever I see Diamond Tiara.
ReplyDeleteOh, NOW i get the hey arnold! reference.
ReplyDeleteAlso on a completely unrelated note, can someone explain the socks meme to me???
Haha, what was with that weird kid with the glasses, who always showed up when Helga was talking about her love for Arnold. Also, remember the Arnold shrine Helga had in her closet?
ReplyDelete@rockopoly456
ReplyDeleteThe only explanation for the socks meme is that there is no explanation for the socks meme.
I always KNEW Diamond Tiara was a tsundere!
ReplyDelete
