I have to admit, the very concept of Cutie Marks is a bit scary. What if a pony gets completely screwed on their special talent? Is there some type of mechanism in their brain that immediately makes them love whatever they end up with?
And Pinkie Pie breaking walls below, as always.

first?
VastaKustutaApple Bloom......lawl. Too bad your parents didn't name you chaos, then we'll see what a chaos cutie mark would look like
VastaKustutaOh Pinkie and your fourth wall breaking.
VastaKustuta#1. I wonder if they're looking too early. Cheerilee seemed to be a late teen before she got hers, or she never took photos of herself.
VastaKustuta#2. Pinkie, put the lights back on.
YES! I GOT A FIRST! Now I can stop trying to get them, what a relief!
VastaKustuta@Bombedrumbum
VastaKustutaobviously like Chaos Zero
there is no first.
VastaKustuta#1 Me too, I guess it just goes with what they must truly love. Heck Trixe's could be a picture of herself.
VastaKustuta# Last one out, get Pinkie
I pity Applebloom, especially since this is whats most likely going to happen in the actual show.
VastaKustutaRegarding cutie marks, I thought about that too. I guess whatever it is, it's something you have to have a great passion for. In real life, though we all have many hobbies and talents, often there's one or two that shine through especially well.
VastaKustuta#1 Wat? Apple with a bloom on it? Is this a term I don't know? lol
#2 lol Pinkie is constantly breaking the fourth wall lately. I don't think there's really any wall left.
The parents decide what the special talent is going to be when they name their child. Which is why most pony names have something to do with their corresponding cutie marks.
VastaKustuta1: Poor Applebloom. Good luck with your Apple/Flower arranging business!
VastaKustuta2: Well, we knew Pinkie could control wipes, so this is nothing surprising.
1. Litteral Cutie Marks Crusaded. I wonder if Scootaloo's is a chicken, because that what 'Scootaloo' immediately translates to in the Gibberish language.
VastaKustuta2. Pinkie... we love you... we get it already... now stop knocking down the same wall of our house everyday. (Sheesh she's been knocking down our homes fourth wall repeatedly, we have to live with three walls because of her.)
@Background
VastaKustutaThis is an interesting point, because then a parent could name there kid wrong and they wouldn't have a name fitting their cutie mark. Maybe they should get numbers...?
There's a concept I've been pondering lately: Do you think it's possible for a pony to lose their cutie mark? Like for example, if they got sick, injured or something and couldn't perform their special talent anymore? What would happen then? Has anyone made that story yet?
VastaKustutaLol, I remember thinking about that whole subject regarding cutie marks. I always just guessed they came out how they would wanted it to.
VastaKustuta@Niko How they would have wanted it to*
VastaKustuta@The Invincible in the zap apple episode tiaras ad cutie mark changed from a cent sign to moneybags
VastaKustutaCutie Marks and names aren't always synonymous. Pinkie Pie has a talent for parties. That's not really reflected in her name. Though she does cook to IMPROVE her parties, cooking is not required for a good time.
VastaKustuta1. APPLEBLOOM GET IT
VastaKustuta2. Pinkie why do you break the 4th wall.
Perhaps pony parents are mildly psychic. At a foal's birth they may get a premonition (at least subconsciously) of what he/she will be like. Apple Bloom would be an exception; her folks just ignored the premonition and gave her the family name.
VastaKustuta1. That's rather funny actually. Poor Apple Bloom.
VastaKustuta2. Poor Pinkie too...she accidentally pulled herself out of the world. WHOOPS.
Maybe it's just an employee at Hasbro who gets paid to make up pony names and another employee gets paid to make up a matching cutie mark? (yeah right, like that's the case, lol)
VastaKustutaIn all seriousness, it's probably a combination of genetic expression combined with magic. Maybe pony hospitals have a machine similar to, but more advanced than the Gene Projector in Fallout 3 that can tell what a foal will be like when they grow up, so the parents can name them appropriately.
Pound Cake likes to pound things after all.
@Popcorn Along that string of thought, why was a family named Pie farming rocks?
VastaKustuta"What if a pony gets completely screwed on their special talent?" -Sethisto
VastaKustutaThat's always worried me, myself. What if a pony accidentally discovers that their Special Talent is, say, murder? Even if they forsake their talent, they still have to deal with having a bloody knife or whatever on their flank.
Or perhaps it's something more socially acceptable, but still problematic. Since a pony's economic livelihood tends to relate to their talent, what if they are, say, talented at being really good in bed (nudge nudge, wink wink). How are you supposed to make a living off of that?
...
How are you supposed to LEGALLY make a living off of that?
@DandyMan
VastaKustutaNah. That was Mr. Filth's grandfather, Stinkin' Rich, with the cent sign cutie mark.
@Jason Shadow
VastaKustutaOr getting a cutie mark in, say, scrubbing toilets.
I thought it was Apple bloom as In "Late Bloomer". How with time and effort, things can become even MORE beautiful. I believe her talent is not so much fixing things so much as it is persistence and tenacity. How working hard at something is worth the reward.
VastaKustutaThe Fruits of Labor.
But that's just my opinion.

VastaKustutaMaybe prostitution is legal in Equestria, like in the Netherlands?
#1 Heh heh heh, poor Applebloom, just can't catch a break. I believe it's all in the name.
VastaKustutaI pity the pony a few episodes back who got a bowling cutie mark.
VastaKustutaTwilight's special talent is magic
Dash's is speed
Fluttershy's shows that she's good with animals.
Even Cheerilee can stretch her flowers as a symbolic thing and say that they represent her students.
Bowling pony is good at a game that features a ball that isn't even designed for ponies to hold.
@Mr. Mediocre
VastaKustutaThat's actually poetic and makes some sense.
We know that they can be misleading without some knowledge on the pony in question. If I didn't know Cheerilee was a teacher I would have assumed her talent involved flowers in some way.
At least cutiemarks don't signify your employement that way that one unlucky sod with the "highly explosive lab accident" cutiemark at least has a final say in wether he want's the job.
Poor Apple Bloom.
VastaKustutaHope she get her real cutie mark.
@Jason Shadow
VastaKustuta"What if they are, say, talented at being really good in bed (nudge nudge, wink wink)?"
Yeah...it does seem like it might be troublesome for a mare to have, say, a rooster and a lollipop on her flank. XD
Cutie marks are open to interpretation, really. It's a combination of genetics, magic, and the environment the pony grew up in.
VastaKustuta@jason shadow
VastaKustutaThere must be a law which prevents blank flanks from having you-know-what, so that that cutiemark can never appear
i think i get the joke but i cant tell what the cutie mark actually is, it looks like a apple with a metal maple leaf space ship on it or something D:
VastaKustutaI don't think the way the universe works, that you can get 'screwed' with your cutie mark. 'Special talents' are things you are good at and enjoy. By definition, you can't have a cutie mark for something you don't enjoy doing.
VastaKustutaBesides, your cutie mark doesn't define what you do in life. Rarity has a 'gems' cutie mark but she doesn't make jewelry, she makes dresses. Pinkie has a 'party' cutie mark and she works (lives?) in a bakery. She throws parties at the drop of a hat, but that's not her job. Just what she likes to do.
So not much to worry about, I think.
I thnik im in the 40's
VastaKustutaPinkie Pie keeps breaking the fourth wall
VastaKustutaand the first comic was just funny
@Bombedrumbum it would be a golden apple
VastaKustutaOrchards in bloom promise future fruit harvests. Bloomsybox
